In this video I explain how I reuse eggshells as a calcium supplement for my chickens. Calcium is an important supplement for all species but absolutely necessary for egg laying hens to promote a healthy laying process, increase the integrity of the shells and prevent complications such as an egg bound hen. This method is proven to be beneficial for your hens health as well as cutting costs on additional calcium supplements however, you should still be providing another source of calcium such as oyster shell for example, you just wont need to do this as often if you are introducing this method. For those concerned that feeding chickens their own eggs may be abnormal for moral reasons, naturally, if a hen is deprived of calcium in their diet they will turn to consuming their own eggs regardless.
