very nice video! what is the minimum diameter for this adapter? is there any specific diameter? you mentioned 50, but I wonder if it can be wider ? many thanks !
If you have a lens that can fit the adapter in front of it technically AF should work, you would just need to change from normal to near focus on the adapter itself when you’re closer/further away
have u tried to modified a prime lens with 1.5x oval aperture and work on this slr magic 1.33x 40 compact? will the square bokeh become 2x oval too????
I haven’t but the bokeh is actually created by the type of blades from anamorphic lenses. Even the SLR Magic adapter doesn’t give you oval bokeh it just gives you flares and a wider aspect capture
You should be fine with that lens combo, the 50-1.33 will give you a little more oval bokeh (not as much as a 2x anamorphic) compared to the 40-1.33x which will not affect bokeh at all.
They are the same, with a 1.33x squeeze. You’ll only see a difference if you use a 2x squeeze adapter but will definitely get a wider field of view with the 1.33x
Wondering if this would be at all viable for shooting cinematic looking narrative film without any issues that make it look amateur... Getting a BMPCC 6k. Still need to figure out what cine lenses to get... lots of research done, but lots more to go. :/
I think the only thing that makes something look amateur is if the lighting, camera movement, actors, audio and color grading aren’t there. In terms of anamorphic it’s not the traditional 2x squeeze but depending on your final delivery it may not be a huge deal especially if you’re factoring cost of lenses. Remember this adapter is really made for budget friendly options where the flares are wanted 🙌
@@atdavidlee Thank you for the comments, and I completely agree. The format takes a back seat to the actors performance and competent production values. (I really want to master audio... almost more important than image quality imo.)
I wouldn’t as the adapter is meant for lenses with a 52mm front. I think you would get distortion (depending if you’re using it on a GH5 in anamorphic mode) and vignetting on the wider end. If you plan on using it you’d need a step down ring from 58-52 and might need to stick to the tighter end (28-35) to avoid vignetting 🙌
The 50mm is too long of a focal length with this adapter on MFT, most I would use is 35mm or 50mm if you have full frame. Technically you can Mount it with a step up ring but you might get a lot of vignetting
That’s actually a really good question I’m not sure but I would think it should work since the adapter doesn’t control the full focusing it’s just the far and near focus aspects
if you go here www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1334046-REG/slr_magic_slrac_40133_anamorphot_1_33x_40_adapter.html it lists a few lenses that are compatible along with what focal lengths you can use
Could you show more footage? Just 3 shots is not enough to see the quality of the adapter. Also, could you run somd tests? Bokeh, sharpness, flares, with the P4K and the 25 f0.95 with and without the adapter on.
The 25 T0.95 flares easily, you can just skim through my rode reel documentary submission to see the flares in action. You’re getting the same quality of bokeh as you would without the adapter the only difference you’ll see is if you were using the 2X adapter as that’ll render more of the oval shaped bokeh. Sharpness I haven’t tested but as mentioned in many other of my videos the 25 T0.95 is a very sharp lens stopped down to T1.4
You are worth following. Thank you for all of this info. I wanted to shoot my first feature film “Loving Till It Hurts” on a anamorphic lens, unfortunately I didn't have the budget but I still got a good project out of 16x9. So far I've gotten 3 awards for this project. The film was shot on a GH4, Panasonic 50mm,14mm and my favorite heavy lens Voigtlander 35mm. Feel free to ask me any questions about the making of it. Can’t wait to shoot my next project with an Anamorphic Lens. Please show me some love and support and check out my film “Loving Till It Hurts” on Amazon prime or watch it for FREE here on TubiTV: tubitv.com/series/4311/loving_till_it_hurts?tracked=1
weird review. Very good in terms of how the anamorphot is fisically and how to use it, but very bad in terms of footage examples. And very misleading with the bars on the head talking coming in and out. I can't say I dislike it, but neither that I liked it...
Think it will work on a Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART lens for Sony E Mount. 67 filter thread
It can but I’d recommend getting a solid step up ring like a 52 to 67 so it can hold the adapter securely
very nice video! what is the minimum diameter for this adapter? is there any specific diameter? you mentioned 50, but I wonder if it can be wider ? many thanks !
Thanks for the video! do you have more footage made with the anamorphot?
I do have one I used on a client project that's on my vimeo vimeo.com/380121409
@@atdavidlee thanks!
Great vid. Anamporhic looks amazing! How does this adapter work with auto focus lenses? Can it be used?
If you have a lens that can fit the adapter in front of it technically AF should work, you would just need to change from normal to near focus on the adapter itself when you’re closer/further away
@@atdavidlee Ahh. I can hear from others, that ear focus can be hard. You stll have yours? :-)
I do but rarely use it, I don’t shoot a lot of anamorphic nor do I have a lot lenses I can use it any longer
Do you get oval bokeh with this adapter?
Unfortunately not, you just get the wider aspect ratio and anamorphic lens flare
atdavidlee Hmm. I wonder if using the Cinemorph anamorphic sphere filter on top of this adapter would work 🤔

My receiving lens has a 77mm thread - is it still possible to use the SLR Magic adapter - or would I need some kind of step up ring?
You would need a pretty strong step up bring as the the rear only accepts 52mm fronts 🙏
Perfect, thanks for that info!
I'm using the Sony A7III with 55mm f/1.8 lens. Would you recommend this adapter or the 1.33 50?
You should be fine with that lens combo, the 50-1.33 will give you a little more oval bokeh (not as much as a 2x anamorphic) compared to the 40-1.33x which will not affect bokeh at all.
@@atdavidlee Thanks for your quick answer. Is there a difference between the wideness of both adapters? Does the 50 have a wider view as the 40?
They are the same, with a 1.33x squeeze. You’ll only see a difference if you use a 2x squeeze adapter but will definitely get a wider field of view with the 1.33x
@@atdavidlee Thanks for all the info! Now I feel safe to go for the 40 one. You saved me some bucks :)
Glad I could help!

would this work on a lumix 12-35mm ? If not can you recommend something that will work ?
I wouldn’t as the adapter is meant for lenses with a 52mm front. I think you would get distortion (depending if you’re using it on a GH5 in anamorphic mode) and vignetting on the wider end. If you plan on using it you’d need a step down ring from 58-52 and might need to stick to the tighter end (28-35) to avoid vignetting 🙌
Does it work to put this on a bigger lens with a step up ring?
It can if the rings are very sturdy otherwise I wouldn’t advise it Incase it snaps off etc
I have a 50 mm lens for my gh5,
So I have to have a step
Up ring to 52 mm front, and then I can just add that on there? And it will work. ?
The 50mm is too long of a focal length with this adapter on MFT, most I would use is 35mm or 50mm if you have full frame. Technically you can Mount it with a step up ring but you might get a lot of vignetting
Would this work with a Sigma 18-35 f/1.8?
From 30-35mm you can, you’ll get some vignetting between 30-33mm tho
Hi, can you use this with AF lenses? If so, is it any good?
That’s actually a really good question I’m not sure but I would think it should work since the adapter doesn’t control the full focusing it’s just the far and near focus aspects
Yes brodie! love that little anamorphic. What are your thoughts on the bmpcc4k not having anamorphic mode and a slightly larger M4/3 sensor?
My guy!!! I think it’s okay without having a true anamorphic mode depending on your final delivery but overall the slightly larger sensor I enjoy haha
Largest focal with this one or the 50 mm u can use with the pocket 4k ?
The largest I’m not sure as they don’t list it but as long as you’re using a lens at least 40mm with a 52mm front you’re goof
What lens are you using to shot when you’re on frame, also, are you using the bmpcc4k?
That was filmed on the bmpcc4k and the lens I used is the Sigma 18-35 with a speedbooster
Do you know if the autofocus is as good as without it on the a7iii for example ?
I think that AF would be exactly the same since you’re not changing how your lens operates technically
neen help to buy this slr magic anamorphto adapter and witch lens can fit with this .I get Blackmagic 4k camra plz can you tell me.
if you go here www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1334046-REG/slr_magic_slrac_40133_anamorphot_1_33x_40_adapter.html it lists a few lenses that are compatible along with what focal lengths you can use
How about that head room though
Bro, I have a doubt can I fix these adaptor in all my lumix gh5 lens or this is only for a particular lens?
It can fit any lens with a 52mm front filter, if it’s 49mm you’ll be okay to use a step up ring
Could you show more footage? Just 3 shots is not enough to see the quality of the adapter. Also, could you run somd tests? Bokeh, sharpness, flares, with the P4K and the 25 f0.95 with and without the adapter on.
