I think labelling Jaws 2 as ‘trash’ alongside 3D and The Revenge is unfair. I think as far as sequels to major blockbusters go, Jaws 2 was pretty damn good. The assessment of Jaws The Revenge though is very fair!
I agree. Jaws 2 was a quite watchable sequel considering how good the first one was. I first saw it on video when I was about 12 I think and really enjoyed it. I saw Jaws 3D at the theater soon after and even then thought it was a lousy badly filmed movie. I didn't see The Revenge until about five years after it was released and was in the video shop and thought I'd give it a try. It was a poor film too even if the photography was much better than the previous entry. But if the only thing positive I can say about it is that the photography is quite nice then I guess that tells you everything.
Yep, Jaws 2 was good. Jaws 3 I actually find more entertaining for how bad it is but Jaws the revenge is utter nonsense.
@@DorisDay-lw4xs Roy Schneider only did Jaws 2 as part of agreement to get out of his contract with Universal studios. They said if he did that film they'd terminate the contract early. He made the film reluctantly and had arguments with Jeanot Swarc, the director, but as you say it came out a lot better than anyone expected, helped by having him in it and a half decent script filmed by a competent director and visually it wasn't dissimilar to the first.. It also did pretty well at the box office and I think it was 1978s second highest grossing film (after Grease).
No man when you compare them to each other the sequels are dreadful
I love 2. 3 and 4 suck ass
I just want to say Rest In Peace Judith Barsi (1978) to (1988) and God bless Judith Barsi as Thea Brody in Jaws The Revenge (1987) Judith Barsi will be forever rememberd as one of the greatest child actors as well amen.
"I'm gonna get me a Brody if it's the last thing I do. Roop, roop, roop."
Michael Caine on Jaws: The Revenge (1987):
"I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific. I am in so many movies that are on TV at 2:00 a.m. that people think I am dead."
Always hilarious no matter how many times I've watched this review 😅
I liked Jaws 2 it was good. 3D and 4 were super bad.
thanks for the reminder that i can watch this and be in my happy place: Jaws in the tropics.
2 was mediocre. 3 was trash. 4 was an atrocity to film.
At 14, I walked out of the theater, angry that I had paid money to see it. It truly boggles the mind that this garbage received a theatrical release.
Agree with you 💯
Anyone that says the sequels were good is a fool lol. There is only one Jaws!
The ending is one of the most poorly shot big budget movies of all time imo. The water lapping against the fake wall, the obvious shirt that's dry miraculously, the missing scenes like they indicated and the miniature set that was extremely obvious of the shark "exploding" from the sail going through its body.
Roger wonders why this particular shark wants revenge and it's a fair question, but hardcore Jaws nerds will know that in the Jaws 2 novelization we learn that the shark in that story is pregnant. It also kind of hints that the original shark in Jaws was her mate, but considering three years separate the two stories and the gestation period of a Great White is about 12 months, the math doesn't check out that Bruce was the pup's baby daddy. In addition to the pregnancy attempting to establish a "family" of sharks that carry on through the movies, the pregnancy also explains why the Jaws 2 shark is so unusually hungry.
In the climax of the novelization when the shark gets electrocuted one of the shark pups is born just in time and escapes. So again it appears that Hank Searls was clever (and/or cheesy) enough to set up a single "family" of sharks, with the Jaws shark being the father, the Jaws 2 shark being the mother with the pup presumably growing up to be the eventual Jaws 3 shark.
I don't remember if there's any attempt in the Jaws The Revenge novelization to carry on the idea of the shark "family", but I do remember there being hints at a supposed supernatural reason the shark is seemingly obsessed with the Brodys. IIRC Searls refers to the shark's decision to relocate from Amity to the Bahamas as a "savage whim", which is kind of silly and doesn't really explain anything. As the ichthyologist says in Jaws 2, "sharks don't take things personally".😜
The early scenes in Amity are OK; it's interesting to partially set a Jaws movie around Christmas, but considering the original Jaws is one of my favorite movies of all time, I found Jaws The Revenge to be not just bad, but offensively aggressively almost pretentiously stupid and arguably the worst major Hollywood movie ever made. Because it kind of takes itself seriously (unlike Jaws 3), Jaws The Revenge can't even manage a "so bad it's good" level of campy fun, IMO.
I've only seen it once and I can't even work up the enthusiasm to "hate watch" it again or even go all "Mystery Science Theater 3000" on it for the LOLs. It's just that terrible, with (apparently) no one in front of or behind the cameras bringing their "A-Game" to the production.
This one wasn't that bad Sean's death is still terrifying right up there with Chrissy's in the first Jaws Yeah the voodoo thing is weird but if you ignore that its a good movie
He hates a dream sequence I guess he hates a nightmare on elm street
The sequel ain't bad though...
Not the dream sequence! Oh brother
Their voices sound slightly slowed down?
Jaws the revenge was a terrible movie. I remember seeing this back in the 80s. It only seemed good because I was a kid. The ending bothers me the most, and I still can't get over that stupid last scene. Very confusing.
no way around it, it was a terrible movie
I can't see how anyone could actually like this dreadful movie....other than for laughs...pure rubbish
@@DorisDay-lw4xsI will admit more as a guilty pleasure if it’s the og cut but I’m only talking about the attack mostly other than that it quite bad
These guys are idiots, I didn't even listen. Jaws 1 and 2 are classics. 3 is entertaining and makes you laugh, I think The Revenge brings back the "classic" part. I liked it
