I love Michael Caine's remark about this movie: "No I haven't seen the movie, but I've seen the house it bought and it's lovely."
He's stared in not one but two of the worst films ever made, the other is The Swarm.
I remember when Caine said that. He also said he has never seen the movie.
Yup.
Glad he got paid well.
They killed off Chief Brody by saying he had a heart attack and implied that he died of a fear of sharks. What a slap in the face. The man blew up a shark and then electrocuted one. He was a badass.
I WAS THINKING the same thing! A total slap in the face to Roy Scheider. Why? Because he was smart enough to not take the $$$ and make another terrible Jaws remake? This is possibly one of the top 5 WORST films ever.
@@rustykuntz94 i'm with you, this movie was a total disaster and the end of the jaws movie franchise just like the knight rider tv franchise, it truly died in 2008-09 with that idiotic knight rider tv series reboot, A total slap in the faces to david hasselhoff, william daniels, Patricia mcpherson, The Late Edward mulhaure and others (he is rolling in his grave as we speak) Why? Because they were smart enough to not take the $$$ and make another terrible knight rider reboot, This is possibly one of the worst tv shows of all time.
That's why their should have been only Jaws and Jaws 2.
As Doug Walker put it, he had more balls than any of us would to kill off sharks twice in two movies
All the family had to do was just move in land and quit going out on the water. But no. Instead of going to Colorado, Mrs Brody goes to the Carribbean.
Siskel's shark imitation was one of the funniest things to ever appear on this show.
Agreed!
it's at the top for sure
“I’m gonna get me a Brody if it’s the last thing I do. Urp urp urp”. Priceless!
"That would have been more interesting than the movie."
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Siskel could be a real card sometimes. I miss that guy.
Jaws 4. Where Roy Scheider said, "Satan himself couldn't get me to do Jaws 4!" And Michael Caine said, "Just make sure the check clears, OK?"
Yes to this. Lol .and Lou Gossett Jr. Sue's all. L
I wonder if Michael knew it would keep him from accepting his first Oscar in person...
@@dnasty312depending on when exactly he signed on to the film, he might not have even been nominated by that time so he might not have thought possibly winning an Academy Award.
He was filming 2010 anyways.
@@trhansen3244 2010 came out in 1984. Jaws 4 came out in 1987.
The way siskel said "one of the sons, the others dead" was funny because it was so emotionless
i wouldnt have necessarily found that funny unless i read your comment first lol thank you
2:53
@@andrev5992 I don't find it funny at all. Why do you?
@@martykeaton182 I guess humans are complex and different, so some find certain things funny that others don’t.
@@andrev5992 Reminds me of 12 Angry Men. Besides, the character he was talking about didn't deserve to die, know what I mean?
The intro is corny but there's so much energy and positivity around it that I love it!
GIMME DAT SUUUUUUUUUUUUUN
Gene with the "Erp, erp, erp," kills me everytime! And Roger's "His SHIRT is dry!" is hilarious! Thanks for posting this, I sure do miss their reviews! -- CreekSider1
One of my favorite lines from any Siskel and Ebert review, "What shark is this?!"
2:12 Geez if Siskel hated dream sequences that much, just imaginr if he had lived to see Inception.
There is a difference between a film like that, where dreams & dream sequences are related to the plot, than movies that use dream sequences in such a lazy cliche fashion like Jaws the Revenge.
seeing this clip reminds me how much i miss Gene and Roger. I think i loved watching them more than the movies. Sigh.... May you both rest in peace.
They had quite an impact on how many people watch movies. I miss them too. I was young and I thought they would be on for ever and then it was over.
I agree.
This is actually one of the highest quality captures I’ve seen for a Siskel and Ebert review... now only if you had kept it 4:3 and not cropped it to 16:9 it would have been perfect...
Ebert: What happened to the shark in the first movie
Siskel: Dead
Ebert: What happened to the shark in the second movie
Siskel: I know dead
Ebert: In that case, what shark is this, is this like a cousin, a nephew, a next door neighbor
😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I really lost it at that point.
😂😂😂😂
R.I.P. Roger Ebert
(1942-2013)
R.I.P. Gene Siskel
(1946-1999)
Roger
Gene
In the novelization, a voodoo priest has placed a curse on the Brodys and that's why the shark is after them. That seems to make a _little_ bit of sense. But it still doesn't explain why the Brodys don't just move to Iowa, like Gene suggested.
I read the novel too, a witch doctor is responsible, mostly he hates Micheal Brody for insulting his voodoo techniques.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My God. That explanation is even crazier than the movie.
Classic. The best review of a rotten film ever.
"Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the theater!" sounds more appropriate than "This time is personal!"
It looks like Siskel and Ebert are really having fun reviewing the movie
Grew up watching these two!!! Never will there be anybody like these two just great tv!!!
I agree!
Jaws The Revenge: a true piece of cinematic excrement
RIP Judith Barsi.
And Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert.
"This new Jaws movie? It's NOT GOOD."
*explosion*
This is the last place I would expect a tnd reference
I miss both of these two legends 😢
So do I.
This was one of those times where ONE THING fucks up the WHOLE movie lol... In the novel (and possibly original script?) an old witch cast a curse (I think the Brody's had something to do with her losing her home some how) on the family and THAT'S why the shark comes after her (them). It's dumb, yes, but it changes the movie completely (doesn't make it much better but it helps as your watching it). Like in IT - at the end with the spider - well, if Jack Tripper or Venus Flytrap or Harold T Stone (RIP) or Lana Lang had just SAID (to the audience) that ''It's a spider and spider's lay many eggs...IT's going to lay eggs and feed on us all blah blah..." THEN it would have made sense, not just Tim Curly suddenly vanishes and now he's a spider lmfao
i remember watching this move when I was about, perhaps, 9 yo. Even then I thought it was so dumb... I was so confused by how the stupid shark was killed in the end
"Live in Iowa" lmao
We both hated Jaws the Revenge and can't believe that this is a film that Michael Caine stayed on location for instead of picking up his Oscar in Hollywood for Hannah and Her Sisters.
Love their sarcastic questions to clear things up...
My right ear sure enjoyed this 😂
It's a dreeeeeeam sequence.
Siskel hates those things more than life itseeeeeeeeelf...
(sorry, Gary Wright :D )
The "logical error" Roger Ebert speaks of is not native to Jaws: The Revenge. It is glaringly erroneous during the pond scene in the first film of the franchise. Michael is practically looking up at the sky when the shark swims by him.
To be fair Tremors did it too.
@@LinkMarioSamus and that was better.
Ebert is such an idiot. He makes these idiotic criticisms. "logical errors". You might as well complain about Star Wars and sound effects in space.
Audio errors are more excusable as a suspension of disbelief than a visual error.
Bring in Higher quality versions of their North Review Roger's Review is Spot on.
4:42 - the same point Richard Jeni (RIP) brought up in his awesome takedown of this movie
that`s hilarous!!
My right ear enjoyed this.
Live in Iowa, that's the answer. Greatest line in a movie review ever
Until they make Jaws 5: Landshark! The plot is... Ellen Brody moves to the middle states away from the ocean and a shark with legs makes it way to a retirement home where she’s living at for one final showdown.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Renee Dennis Hey it might happen. It’s a B movie gold mine.
@@DarkFortressPictures_Official True .. 😉
Renee Dennis Sadly, that’s what the jaws franchise became.
@@DarkFortressPictures_Official Yup.
2:09 "Football practice!"
In Jaws 5 she could have moved to Chicago and the shark follows her by swimming to Lake Michigan.
Or move to Iowa or Nebraska ax Gene suggested.
Michael Caine could not attend the Oscars that year for Hannah and Her Sisters nomination (which he won) because he was shooting this horrible film and the studio didn't want him to leave for a break.
Blame it on Lorraine Gary's husband who ran the film studio at the time
Hard to believe that anyone involved with evaluating the script for this film would have seriously thought it was actually good enough to proceed to production.
The script for this film was beyond utterly hopeless.
these reviews are so entertaining.
The insane thing is the director of this lumbering mess is the same who directed the excellent and exciting The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three. He also directed the wonderful The Night That Panicked America TV movie about the War of the Worlds radio broadcast.
The guy who played Mike Brody later voiced Shinji Ikari in Neon Genesis Evangalion.
Thanks for the info.
to bad they're not around. would've loved to hear their review of Catwoman. Oh and some of the Disney Star Wars movies.
Ebert did a review of Catwoman with Roeper.
They were never too crazy about star wars.
They at least never had to watch some of the dreadful films in recent years like Cats, Persuassion, the endless Liam Neeson action films, The Ridiculous 6, A million ways to die in the west, Nativity 3 Dude Where's my Donkey, Pudsey the Dog, Dark Phoneix, God's of Egypt, The 5th Wave,
Great quality
I remember watching this when it first aired.
4:15 - :36 They really nailed it here. :D
Roy Scheider wanted nothing to do with Jaws after the first one. He was forced into the second one because of a contractual obligation and made life miserable for the director. Later he signed on to star in Blue Thunder primarily so he would have an excuse not to appear in the third one. By the time they made this one they probably didn't even bother asking him to come back.
That's the same thing with david hasselhoff, he wanted nothing to do with knight rider after the classic tv shows (save for conventions and a cameo in kr 2008 pilot) after the disaster that it has become.
All the sharks died at the end of their films; this is the Jason of the ocean, except this series stopped at part 4. Thank you!
Just brush off whatever that is on Ebert's jacket.
30 years later (or whatever) we're still getting Jaws movies, they're just retitled - - like "The Meg".
Jaws The Revenge is Top 5 worst films of all time material. There's nothing redeeming about it
1:22 - Straight up savage.
Jaws 2 wasn't that bad. Jaws 3 & Revenge are the mistakes!!! And why no music when they show the scenes? And this shark is the grown up offspring of the first and second shark, according to the Jaws The Revenge novel
I liked Jaws 2 although not as good as the original but I give it 👍⭐️⭐️ & a half out of 4
Jaws 3 ⭐️ out of 4
Jaws the Revenge 0 stars is the worst movie ever in my opinion
@@reneperez7903 Jaws 2 did get two an a half star rating. And it's a fact that Jaws The Revenge is one of the worst movies of all times. Because it's ridiculous and stupid to make Bruce The Shark have a vengful supernatural stalking ability to stalk Chief Brody's family. Why? Brody died already, due to a heart attack or was Ellen right that her husband died of "fear of the shark"? WTH did that mean? Fear of the shark???
@@kevindavis296 jaws the revenge made 0 sense & should be considered by y’all as the worst movie ever.
@@reneperez7903 what did that mean? THE FEAR OF IT killed him?
"Death by noise" haha
.
There are bad movies that are just that, and then there are bad movies that somehow still find a way to be entertaining, and I thought Summer School fell into the likeably bad category.......definitely not great, but a film I didn't mind watching because Carl Reiner was smart enough to populate it with a bunch of (mostly) likeable characters, doing (some) interesting things throughout....
Okay......not a glowing recommendation for the film, but MUCH more enjoyable than Jaws the Revenge, which they trashed here.....though that's not really saying too much.....
.
the one time I agree with Siskel & Ebert Jaws the revenge Sucked
The dream is actually pretty terrifying. Lol
As a child, this isn't a bad movie.
I like jaws 1 and 2
The audio, needs to be, louder
"Oh, SHIT!"
Game Grumps sent me :)
Classic show
Why is the cabbie on the right?
No, he definitely looks like he’s on the left.
C'mon Siskel, if Ellen moved to Iowa, she'd be threatened by the lesser known but more dangerous land shark
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why didnt they show us where the shark lept out of the water and roared ?
That one that said, "let's hope this is the last of the Jaws movies" is a tit. It's like he's bad-mouthing Jaws and Jaws 2 because Jaws 3-D did okay and Jaws The Revenge did so badly. Jaws 2 is a good sequel, however, the fact remains Jaws is always one of the best movies ever made. Carl Gottlieb told me years ago there would be no more Jaws movies because of the flop of Jaws The Revenge. It's sad that things are that way because all it needs is a good script writer, good actors and also known actors, not new faces where they are all overdoing it the way they do in the recent horror movies where those new actors are try-hards trying to make a big name for themselves, I mean known actors and with the special effects with a much higher budget, a Jaws 5 would be good. It's a shame Jaws The Revenge ended the Jaws movies.
Roger has some junk near the shoulder of his jacket.
Every sequel got exponentially worse. Jaws II was marginally entertaining, with a couple of actually frightening sequences. III was cheesy trash. (Lou Gossett Jr. has TERRIBLE luck with marine life - see 'The Deep'.) This final sequence just makes your soul feel dead.
Disagree with Siskel about the sequels. Jaws 2 was an admirable followup, if not quite on the level of the original. 3D and Revenge, though, are absolute trash.
Possibly the worst movie of all time. Simply dreadful. This time it’s personal, indeed!
Obviously Michael Caine needed the money.
No, he wanted the money. Specifically he wanted the vacation to the filming location.
Mr Caine said they paid him 1 million dollars for two weeks of filming work on Jaws 4. Financially, it was a no-brainer for him.
Jaws 4 Shark shit
Jaws 4; my vote for the worst film of the 1980s.
I agree with both critics here, but I really hated siskel as a critic.
Agreed. Siskel was incredibly clueless in his ways of analysis but somehow made it big.
The 2nd is trash????? Not really buddy
