Purchasing Health Insurance in Bangkok, Thailand

- in this episode we head off into Bangkok to meet with some people and learn all about health insurance which is required to maintain certain visas here in the kingdom. We meet the folks of Pacific Cross and decide on a policy that seems to my liking before heading down to the dock to catch a riverboat. Our destination is Wat Phra Keao but we quickly learn the entry requirements may be a bit too much so I settle for a bowl of noodles and a drive in a Tuk Tuk. Enjoy the Ride!
Email me if you would like one of the brochures or if you would like me to put you in contact with the folks that helped me. Email address in the "About tab" of my channel page.

Very good and informative. So clear on the insurance the best amongst the you tubers that I have watched covering this subject. Thank you
Both my thumbs up for this informative and transparent vlog. You are becoming a serious candidate for my favorite youtuber.
Hands down, the best video of yours I've seen! Solid and helpful information for us Americans hoping to settle down in Thailand some day, and with a good giggle at the end. Thank you! I wish I could give this one TWO thumbs up!
Another great one , You sir are excellent at doing these .Look forward to the next
One of your best posts. Wonderful work, cheers.
Brilliant video really good content.I think that was me who messaged you yesterday about doing a video on health insurance.Thank you for getting back to me
Very professional and conscientious video. This will be of great use to many farangs 😀
Thank you very much for the info on the insurance. I will follow your lead and get the full coverage for the peace of mind. Thumbs up
Excellent, thorough and interesting video on health insurance. I've heard of hop on and hop off buses, but not boats. What fun, especial the escapade with the Tuk tuk!
Look at the all neighboring countries and look at the Thai's success. They couldn't do it for no reason. 500 Baht was okay, rather they should also have Thai pays some.
Love your videos, I and my wife enjoy your videos sitting in Canada.
Planning to move there soon.
God bless you both, stay happy!
Almost 25k, great achievement, keep on delivering great videos.
This was a very helpful video for me as I will be applying for my O-A in 6 months. Thank you.
Good episode. Thanks for the visuals...
Good stuff, love the shirt, thanks for the content you provide.
great video, excellent info about insurance. really like watching your videos. cheers dude.
You look quite respectable with a real shirt.
You will get seated with the beautiful people.
Ayeeee
Looking sharp 😎
Great information regards insurance mate, yep they can take a jump with their high Farang prices, I ride a Motorcycle everyday in Thailand and would love to have a go at a Tuk Tuk as well, love the shirt, great video thanks 🙏👍
Not gonna lie, i was thinking exactly the same thing. I thought you only owned the R4K wife beaters :)
Love the "formal wear" Hawaiian shirt!🤣😂
Thanks for anothet great video, Lucas!
I ve been using Atena of Thailand for 6 years now very pleased with them thus far .... I ve been living here 10 years and always carried insurance ....
Another interesting and enjoyable watch. You're fast becoming my favourite blogger.and love your easy going commentry. Keep up the good work.😉👍👌
Another good video. Very funny seeing u drive that tuktuk.
Thanks for all the great info on insurance. Thailand is on my radar for retirement in the future. Also love your music selection during the scenery sections. All the best to you.
Super vlog, very helpful information on insurance. One of my main concerns for possible retirement. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for posting the health insurance info it is much appreciated.
I think the variety is fantastic, riding, food, temples, etc. and the honesty. I do miss Thailand.
Great video, I am really enjoying your content!
I always wanted to drive a Tuk Tuk...thanks again for sharing your travels.
I'm glad you got a good deal on the insurance that tuk tuk driver was a good sport letting you drive and well done Vee on the camera work 😎🙏
Thank You for the concise information. Insurance is a boring subject until you need it.
You guys dress up well looking good. Vee got some excellent footage at the temple. Sounds like you got some great coverage! You're one of the best dtuk dtuk drivers ever I have to say. Thanks for the info. Stay safe. From the US
I remember wanting to take home a bicycle samlor, wish I had.:-)
Nice videos! Thx to Lucas and V!
good driving hahaha nice to have fun!
Good advice get proper insurance even at 46000thb its better than getting caught short and paying out a fortune if something happens. Let's hope you never need it 🙏
Great video Lucas, covering a topic that I am really interested in. I plan to retire in Thailand next year and I'm also looking at Pacific Cross. I think you got a great deal, especially compared to the insurance prices here in the USA. I did visit the Grand Palace 4 years ago and had to pay 500 baht, but I must say it was totally worth it to do it once.
Good job driving the tuk tuk! What a fun experience!
Hi Lucas, yes that is important a healt insurance i agreed. Congratulations with your tuktuk adventure, I am impressed. 😃👍
Good content, nice walk about as usual....
Thanks Lucas-Vee /Cheers Mate
Pacific Cross is recommended by all the You Tuber's. They are top shelf. NO BS. The boss and Michael answered all my questions. Yes I need that $100,000 USD Covid.I will be coming next month with my 2 week quarantine. That will be required for all Farang soon. It doesn''t cost Thai Immigration any money. Did Vee like being named on your life insurance policy.
I have never been thrifty, but I’m glad that you are! You show me a different way to live.
loved the TUK TUK drive!!
Great Video!!
I’m with you 100% on refusing to pay the farang fee. Those of us who live here already contribute to Thailand. It just makes me so angry - not the cost so much, but the blatant discrimination. My (Thai) wife has even observed Chinese tourists slipping through and getting away with the local national park fee when accompanied by a Thai guide because they clearly aren’t farang and nobody checks. It just makes the feeling even worse. 😬
Yeah, it's a real pisser. I don't mind a little nibble but sometimes they get out of hand. We went to a Thai Royal Navyl Museum down towards Pattaya (Chanburi I think) and they wouldn't even let me in. I let that ruin the rest of my trip. I've since cooled off and want to go back but know what to expect. The Thai people are fantastic but the gov't is very anti tourist and doesn't hesitate to remind you of it.
@@guzzijack9714 Ever since the new king took power. It was predicted that this would happen. Odd,considering he lived in Europe most of his life.
Michael Kay I am so with you on the discrimination against foreigners. Here in the US what ever the entry fee is its across the board for everyone. Museums, Parks, Amusement parks, Any events, if there is a fee its for everybody. We are all equal in Gods Eyes.
I rather pay the foreigner entrance fee to national parks in Thailand then pay income taxation in Thailand.

Never heard of senior, child or local residents discounts. Military discounts.
You should get out more.
Hilarious tuk tuk drive, Vee do really good camera work, good content as always!😁😆👍
Keep the videos coming. Many thanks for sharing
You bet 👍
I miss bangkok sir. Used to work there for about 13 years. Now im here in your home country. Enjoy your stay there and be safe
Great episode. Thanks for going through the health insurance issues. Interesting. I think you made the right decision on getting the fuller coverage. Makes more sense. By the way, love some of your background music. You have played the song/music while you were riding on the boat a few times now. In different episodes. So I Shazamed it and found out who that was. Really liked it. The song is called, Diamond Dust. By Dvine. Good dance music. I bought the song and downloaded it. Thanks. So you see, it’s more than just traveling info that you are giving to us! 👍😎
Thank you for short cutting what I have just started to do for my self.
Very awesome. You got on that throttle. And thanks for the insight about insurance. That is going to be one priority after I moved there. The motor sounded awesome in that thing and you really got on it ! Nice one.
Yeah, it may have been the best sounding tuk tuk I've ever heard. 🤣
Having watched a few of your vlogs, very helpful, so I've subscribed. I'm more of a Philippines visitor, and I'm still amazed at the number of people who travel the world without any insurance cover. There are many horror stories about tourists in trouble. Mt nephew is currently stuck in Thailand, but I believe his insurance company maintains cover as he was stranded there through no fault of his own.
I agree, it crazy if you have to be evacuated from a ship, island, country or divert an aircraft to nearest medical facility, they can charge you up $50K usd. Travel insurance is exactly what it states, it doesn't cover you for long stays in countries. So it is good to have both. I even hear that Thailand is charging or requiring a $3,000 usd deposit on even a tourist visa when you enter the country now. (I have personally verified that, but seen it on another channel recently).
Enjoyed the video....good call on the Insurance, sitting out the 500 Baht Falang fee, and driving the tuktuk!!!!!!
It's great to know about the insurance... BTW nice shirt.
Love the series! I'm thinking that some kind of COVID insurance is going to be needed for any kind of travel going forward. As someone who is actively working towards eventually retiring there thanks for the information on the health insurance, very valuable. This series is great, as are all of the one's you have done. Thank you for all of your hard work and khob khun mak krab to Vee for always being a good sport and helping out! Wish you both all the best in fortune and health. Hope to be able to buy you both a beer in February!
Hopefully is stays just as an insurance requirement and not a forced vaccination or be denied entry. Everyone keeps bringing that up and it needs to stop, stop planting seeds! I don't trust any medication or vaccination that just recently comes to market either. Too many side affects from untested pharmaceuticals on the market now. Just watch any major drug commercial, they list them at the end very quickly, while trying to distract you with people smiling in the background. I can only speak to my experiences, the flu shot never helped me. So i stopped taking it over 12-15 years ago and only had the flu 1 time (mostly like the H1N1 in 2009, with over 762 million infections and 284,500 deaths worldwide).
Yes we must have insurance for a deadly virus that has a 99.8% chance of survival 🤦♂️
Thats so cool that you drove a Tuk tuk!!! love seeing that!!
They seem so awesome! how did it feel??
Thanks again for this video, I really enjoy watching your journey!!
if you ever somehow end up going to Spain for a vacation, I am happy to have both of you to stay in my apartment!
Much Love from Spain!
Great video
Hey lucas great video there. I think because you can speak thai pretty good then they don't rip you off. Insurance is a good idea in Thailand, many people say it's a rip off. Probably is in some cases, but I've always had insurance whenever I went to Thailand. A lad I know off broke his leg on
a motorbike, in the end he ended up paying £30,000 to put it right. In the UK that would have been free.....Just to stay in a hospital for one night was costing him nearly £500 a night ! It's good to have that piece of mind. Great work will see the next instalment soon. Bri and frei east Yorkshire.
PS.. Kev in Thailand (Who's videos I loved) was a 40 year chain smoker, and that's a different topic, but regardless, he was a life lesson for all of us needing to have health insurance in Thailand.
Helpful video.
Sorry not familiar with Kev, what happened to Kev? Whats the lesson there?
@@mn8931- Kev said he was waiting till he was 60 years old to begin health insurance in Thailand and If he got ill he would just pay whatever it cost. Sadly he got a tumour / throat cancer at age 59 which quickly spread and killed him. He spent a small fortune on hospital fees. So sad, Kev was a top man ☹️
WOW! I love the shirt. Great taste you have. Looks really good on you too. Like your intelligence. Sounded as though you did a good job on selecting insurance for your needs. I was really impressed with your ability to handle the TukTuk. Old lady from Vermont, Beverly
Thank You!
Rent a bicycle in Bangkok ,Yeah right 🤦♂️What great help in this video for the people who are thinking or living there ..Brilliant 👍
Great 👍 video
LOL! Tuk Tuk driver - looks like a blast!! I remember the time a cyclo driver let me pedal him around Hanoi late one night after drinking - a lot. Went well, except for stopping... Anyhows, Thanks for this video, Insurance is on my mind as I'm 64 & we'll be applying for a OA visa soon. Pacific Cross has came up multiple time as a good option. We enjoy all your videos. Can't wait until we get back. Maybe we'll cross paths sometime - buy you a beer!
I come here to see these videos, like other people go to a spa. To relax...
very informative vlog and nice shirt mate!
I wasn't too interested in the insurance either until I got locked out due to Covid with my wife in BKK. To be honest I normally have it as part of my work. But to get back home I have had to hunt down insurance too and thats 100K $US coverage including Covid. Take all that into account for the future, because I'm sure that insurance will be more important and more mandatory moving forward. Cheers, take care and thank you both for the insightful topics. Cheèrs and safe travels, Tom.
Peace of mind on insurance is priceless I always get the best available when I travel. Thats crazy with the temple i was there last year and it was 100 baht per person no exceptions. It is an enormous place to walk around Vee did an awesome job, Nice to see you both in formal attire :) Another high quality vlog as always.
No Mark, it's been 500 for foreigners and zero for Thais for years . At least since 2012 when I first visited and many times since. Worth it if you've never been there before
@@terryfisher2454 Yeah, 100 baht doesn't sound right for Grand Palace/Wat Prah Kaew; I just confirmed that it cost 350 baht when I first visited Bangkok in late 2009. And I agree, it's totally worth it; the wall paintings of the Ramakien were amazing.
@@sirrebral 👍
@@sirrebral Lukas lives in Thailand he can change his mind any time.
Thank you for the informative video. I am looking to retire in Thailand in about 2 years from now.
I think you made a wise decision on the coverage that you got.
its quite reasonable for $1500 for a year.
Nice video! Enjoyed it. Thnx
Thank You 🙏
Hello from Canada 🇨🇦 love the videos I dream about spending my winter in Thailand
" How much to Siam Square " 👍😂😂😂😂😂😂 brilliant .. Nice shirt to Lucas.. Great vlog on insurance .. cheers 👍
Hahaa.. nice driving in the Tukki.. also love the formal dress!!.. now you know you've made it when one can say that Lucas... im jealous
really enjoyed the scene right of frame at the 16.47 minute mark...."don't ya just luv Thailand". Safety first.
Always good info
Thanks, some great info here!
Spotted Vee’s Converse shoes. She looks dainty in them.
Great and informative video! looking forward to the "Final Chapter/Bangkok!"
Great informed video
I've seen it all now! A farang tuktuk driver with a couple of thai passengers. You must have had half of Bangkok rubber knecking and rubbing their eyes all the way back to the hotel! I wouldn't be surprised if you end up on tv. Nice one Lucas.
I agree with you, I do not mind paying a bit extra as a foreigner. The huge price difference feels like a direct message, you are not welcome. Love the videos, thank you for sharing.
I agree, you’re much better off paying annual income tax in Thailand then the entrance fee for tourists.
OMG...the Tuk Tuk driving was the best! Cannot believe you opted to save 500 baht instead of going in and appreciating that magnificent temple first hand! 😩
Thank you for the PDF . Received the information.
Great Vid, the first thing I thought when you pulled up to the hotel was how stunned the guy was standing there. lol Yep two heads summed it up.👍👍
Thats pretty cool Lucus, lots packed in there. Hope you have more footage of the temple from Vee.
you have a great voice, should be on radio!
This is valuable information for many of us. I thank you very much for your presentation. Have only heard great things about Pacific Cross. I have this thought about mapping out the best hospitals for different senarios just in case. Different hospitals in Bangkok are recognized for being specialized in specific medical procedures. TUK TUK name comes from the sound the tuk tuk makes.
yes, that is correct.
awesome!!!
That building right next door to Chartered Square is where we live. Also got my insurance at Pacific Cross, but had a different agent. Nice job on the tuk tuk!
Love your videos man.. fun to watch these as I'm STUCK in Las Vegas. BUT.. since when is a loud Hawaiian shirt called "Formal attire". hahahaha.. Keep the videos coming man.
Haha that was a great ending driving up2 hotel in tuk tuk lol 👍
Thanks for the talk on health insureanc for us in Thailand, will leave soon as possible, could not afford hospital or sickness here,
Just to note, insurance agents in Thailand (and in general) work on commission and take a brokerage, typically 10-20% (depending on what insurance products you buy) of your overall gross premium, you can save this in future by going to the direct insurer. The coverage will be the same.
I am a licensed insurance broker in Thailand. Insurance companies do not discount the broker/agent commission if you buy direct from the insurance company. If they offer this discount, they are making enemies of all the brokers & agents. The price you pay is the same, regardless of where you buy from.
Good video :)
The ultimate business attire :). Greetings from sunny France. I loved being on the Chao Praya once again. Thank you for the pics!!! The 500 THB are worth it. The visit of the temples is magic AND the entrance ticket allows you another visit of a splendid palace in the north of BKK - so, basically, you are dividing the price of your entrance ticket by 2.
Yes we paid and enjoyed the visit. However the crowds were bad. It’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
@@cJ-cr8gp Like it is the case for every popular tourist destination : go there early :). Would you go to Prague, if you visit St Charles Bridge (or the Hrad) at 7 or 8 AM, you are a lonely soul and your visit is most confortable. Same for the kings palaces of Bangkok, for Angkor or to the golden pagoda of Rangoon... etc.
A shame they wanted to charge you so much. I've been in there there and did not pay that amount. Lucky you during a TukTuk! Thanks for finding out about health insurance. It is something that I will need to look into in the future.
Great video Lucas, well done for not paying the 500baht to get in that place I wouldn't have paid either!!
Pacific Cross seems to be the choice of westerners and insurance is always a good idea. I like the shirt!! The Grand Palace where The Temple is located does not accept anything except Thai ID (not even the Pink ID) and they up the price from 400 to 500 recently. Seems a little silly since no foreign tourist are even in Thailand and foreigners that live here could help the economy if not overcharged.
Yeah, I think they could make more if they lowered it during these domestic touring times we live in right now.
Overcharged? It's literally one of the country's most important landmarks and the fee is cheaper than a mediocre museum in my state.
I think this is the whole problem in two comments. The Grand Palace is undoubtedly worth 500Baht to visit. As it is such an important site for Thais it is correct that they are allowed free entry. This gives the huge differential in prices. Both prices are correct but together it just doesn't feel right.
My personal way of thinking about this duel pricing is if I go with my wife we get charged 500 Baht for the two of us.
Another tip for expats here is to get a Thai ID card. Since I got mine I have probably been to 12 different National Parks and attractions. I have only has to pay Farang price twice.
You must had a bad day. I been 3 times and used my Thai Pink ID card with no problem each time.
@@beardedbandicoot9850 Pink ID is something different than drivers license.
Nice Vlog, I totally agree with your decision about the 500b (FU tax) not being rude what so ever but lets face it thats exactly what that tax is 🙏
Nice shirt Lucus.. I do understand about the 500฿ to wat Pra keo . But it was a chance of a life time . Many would say yes it’s a lot . But you don’t see it every day my friend. I hope I didn’t say anything disrespectful. Nice video as always. Keep it up and stay safe .👍🏻🙏🏻
Yeah, i have no problem paying to get in. But they are supposed to maybe be lowering the fees for the foreigners living here and it looked like it was about to rain any minute so i decided to wait for a more opportune time to visit.
Great work 👍
👍first thumb 💋💋hi from singapore 7pm nowww great vlog 👍
