So glad I found this video - I have the Carbon Evo and a Sonos 5…..just need the RCA adapter and pre amp to complete the set up. Your walkthrough was incredibly helpful.
Needed this video! Thank you :)
An excellent and well-thought out review, thank you. I have a classic turntable that needs a complete refurb - and I also have a fairly extensive Sonos system and have just received a very generous Sonos discount offer. I'm now very tempted by the Pro Ject, especially as I can potentially upgrade it down the road, thereby probably spending almost as much money as I would on refurbishing the older deck 😬
Thanks for the video, its very helpful. I've read mixed things related to needing to shim for the vertical tracking when upgrading the sub platter or acylic platter. Have you noticed any issues without shimming?
I just purchased the fluance rt83 and have already spent more in upgrades before I've recieved it in the mail. Still have to wait 2 more days😅 it's addictive.
What a complete review! I too was a kid when I had a turntable and want to purchase one. I’m looking at the FluanceRT85. Do you hear a difference between CD, streaming music vs your turntable? Thx
It all depends on your setup (speakers amps etc), and which albums you listen to. I don’t listen to cds often but in terms of streaming my vinyl setup has way more presence and staging than streaming does. But streaming is prob better for newer music with more bass.
Will it work with the era 100? If i use aux to usb-c?
Do you have an opinion on how this compares with the Victrola Stream Carbon? The Victrola setup seems to be even more seamless and it connects to the Sonos setup via Wifi, but I am curious to understand if there is a difference in the sound quality?
Hey great video thanks - I’m starting out too. Got an Audio Technica with built in pre-amp and bought an Era 100 to use for the line in. All working so far but did you notice the output is not super loud? It’s ok, you’d have to raise your voice to talk over it if Era is set to max volume, but not at loud as it can go when streaming music through it.
I haven’t used an era 100 but if it’s at all similar to the play 1 in terms of output then yes it will be too weak for a turntable. The play 5 is their loudest speaker I believe.
Would it be an issue if the play 5 is beside arc speaker and in same room as left and right play 1 speakers? Great video thank you!
Shouldn’t be an issue that is similar to my setup as well
Really great review and setup for pro-ject turntable with sonos. I recently bought the carbon evo without sonos as package and i bought the pre amp S2 ultra from pro-ject. Do i need sonos amp or sonos port so that i can stream to my sonos home theatre system?
no you just need a compatible sonos speaker as mentioned in the video I have the play 5 but the new era 100 and 300 also have a way to plug in
@@FilmIn5D my setup is sonos beam gen 2, so i would like to play through my beam gen 2. Do i need a sonos port or amp? My carbon evo have project Ultra S2 phono pre amp only
@@stevelam7739 yea you need a port
@@FilmIn5D thanks for that!
which coupon did you use for 20 off?
I connected it to my era 100. Followed every step. I Get sound with a lot of static sound. And the music is very low. I don’t know if my cable is defective or if it’s something wrong with the turn table? The static noise is there when I don’t play music to. Ps I connected the yellow tabbed cables in to the turn table.
Please help🥰
Try reversing the cable
@@FilmIn5D same problem:(
Try a different cable then first
@@FilmIn5D i will try it, thinking about just returning it and order a new one tho. I need to buy a separate cable
I'm experiencing the same thing. Did a new cable work?@@fredrikglittum
What code did you use for the discount? Thank you
the link in description for the Alu subplatter upgrade is incorrect. I purchased this and it doesnt fit, its for "classic series". now turntable lab wont let me return it :/
Sorry about that, seems like the other one is out of stock. I updated the link to audio advisor, hopefully TTLab let’s you return (they did for me).
By plugging into the Play 5 can the audio then be played through the rest of your Sonos system?
Yep!
So what is the difference between this turntable and the evo? I was looking at the evo, but I do have Sonos throughout the house.
I mentioned in the video, but the included phono pre amp, acrylic platter upgrade, electronic speed switch button, and I THINK a slightly larger chassis but don’t quote me on that.
I rewatched. You did cover that. I got confused when the differences were teased before the unboxing. I’m like “only the sonos edition gets wires?”. 😂
Its possible with Sonos One?
@@PianoPoet481 no, you need a line in port
Hmm those are interesting upgrades. But no matter how much you spent your sound quality is still capped at what the Play5 can produce.
Indeed, I made a follow up video where I cover my higher end setup
How has your experience been listening to vinyl via digital signals? I've beeb looking at the Carbon Evo for a while but currently I have a Samsung soundbar system at home and the only input options are bluetooth and optical, so I'm thinking to use. RCA to Optical adapter but is worried that the sound quality will be downgraded too much.
It’s still fun although analogue is for sure better
Not sure playing through a wireless speaker gives justice to your turntable/ stylus setup. But hey if you like it then that's what matters.
Don’t worry, I have an update video coming out soon! ;)
why the source level to 7??
Found that had the best signal to noise ratio
awesome.. gonna try it when i get home.. thanks for the vid.. very informative.. everytime i stop my turntable, i have to turn it off, which disconnects it from the other speakers... change the record, turn it back on, then i have to link all the systems back together if i want to hear from multiple systems and not just the sonos one that came with the turntable.. very frustrating.. so maybe the autoplay feature will fix it?

this dude is so full of it. He states he's a noob to turntables but he clearly isn't. Here he is buying a decent turntables that is no way entry level and getting a bunch of upgrades, that the average user wouldn't even use.
sonos edition my ass
🤣
