We will never see another series loke the 91 WS. 2 teams so evenly matched, great pitching, steller defense and offense and who,s leading the pack but Mr Clutch himself KIRBY PUCKETT. Time & time again getting the clutch hit to keep his team.in it. THANKS GUYS FOR 87 & 91 . YOU GAVE US ALL IN MN.SOMETHING TO CHERISH FOREVER.
My dad worked at the church where his funeral was held. He said a ton of baseball players showed up. He said that it is hard to understand just how massive these guys are until you see them in person.
"And we'll see you tomorrow night." I watched that as a kid and can still hear that call in my head when I think about it. Not to mention Puckett's triple to left and his game saving catch earlier up against the plexiglass. That was just his game. That man was so loved in Minny. It was sad to see his career end on a bean ball. The last time a Minnesota team won anything... 0 for the next nearly 120 seasons combined between the Twins, Wild, Timberwolves and Vikings. 🤦♂️ Have to look back 32 years to see any Minnesota championships.
I was 15 and 19 when the Twins won their 2 World Series. This city hasnt seen a major championship since. I dont think these younger fans understand just how electric it was. I feel blessed i watched all 14 games.
So lucky I grew up a Twins fan. I was 10 in 1987 when they won their first. In 1984 in a small bar in my hometown my father took myself and my brother to meet a young rookie named Kirby Puckett. Kirby was young and friendly and we got our pictures taken with him and an autographed baseball. If you are not from Minnesota it’s hard for someone to understand how beloved Kirby Puckett was ❤️
And if u ask Dennis Martinez he feels like shit for blinding and concussing Kirby. He may have been pitching inside but his pitch was just a freak accident.
From Minnesota, great that you made a video looking back at the Glory Days of the Twins! 2006 and 2019 best seasons since! AS kids going into Game 6, we were confident the Twins were still going to win. Braves would have won, but the Homefield advantage and Jack Morris Game for the Ages won it!

Ahh the memories of being a kid and watching your home team win! What a magical time it was. I'm glad you showcase the worst-to-first for both teams, but you focused a lot on the Braves. The Twins had an amazing 15 game win streak that propelled them to first place. I would also have loved to hear how the Twins path thru the playoffs went.
Back then, there was only the ALCS. No ALDS. The Twins easily took care of the Blue Jays in five games. We apologize for not bringing up the 15-game winning streak.
All their memories of being in high school in watching your team rip your heart out and stomp on it. I still have nightmares 🤣 Kirby Fucking Pucket. What a f****** series he had son of a bitch 🤣
I was both a Milwaukee fan as I'm from Wisconsin, and went to a Molitor hit streak game. That said, Kirby had caught my attention previously and I ended up following the Twins nearly as much as Milwaukee. Needless to say, 1987 was the best sports fan year a kid could have asked for.
The performance of Smoltz was one of the best I have ever seen in a World Series game only to be out done by the guy on the other team. Wow what a game and series . Jack Morris was and is A Legend .
Analytics would have said to pull him in the fifth inning. Because analytics has destroyed baseball as entertainment and we will never see a legendary performance like this in the World Series again. Ever. Baseball is hot garbage today. There is no heart in the game anymore. Just stupid sterile mindless algorithms telling a superfluous “manager” what to do.
This was bitter sweet for us Braves fans --- the run to the finish line with the Dodgers, making the playoffs for only (I think) the second time since moving to Atlanta, and then making it to the series... 1991 was perhaps even better than their 1995 win. The entire city was in madness and mayhem like that Major League movie. Great series, and definitely the best in my lifetime. KP cracked the code on Charlie. The circle curve changeup had Kirby looking pretty bad and way out in front every time Charlie faced him -- until ...it ...didn't -- POP.. everyone in the group knew that was gone when it left the bat.
I in my heart feel that the 1991 World Series between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves is the greatest World Series ever played either before or since. I'm sure that there will be somebody out there who will want to disagree with that. But I can't think of any other series in baseball that had five of the seven games decided by only a single run, four of them including Game 7, decided on the final at-bat, and three of them be decided in extra innings again, including Game 7. And even before the series began, it was completely unprecedented to have both participants finish in dead last in their respective divisions from the year prior.
I missed the entire series due to deployment on USS ATLANTA. We left on 26 SEP and got back 6 months later. Being a Radioman, I would be the first to know the scores of the game though if it was any consolation. I won 100 dollars from a southern hick Sonarman.
I didn't have to use the internet, I seen what happened! Just before this, in the top of the 11th, he caught and saved probably a game winning extra base hit from Ron Gant.
That Braves pitching staff should have won at least 4 Championships. I am a Twins fan and believe they were a more complete that team year of crafty vets that still had gas in that tank. Was a great world series.
Although you havent received much love on this video, I appreciate it... I was a MINN kid on his first submarine under the water in the MEDITERRANEAN sea. I took 100 dollars off a southern hick for my TWINS beating his BRAVES :)
Please let us know the timecode of the mistake about the 1965 World Series. We most likely didn't mention about the Twins' former postseason mishaps. Dan Gladden was a lower third graphic near the 7:00 timecode.
It's happened three times: As Jason Trebilock notes, the Minnesota Twins won all four homes games and lost all three away games versus the St. Louis Cardinals in 1987 and again versus the Atlanta Braves in 1991. Also, the Arizona Diamondbacks won all four home games and lost all three away games versus the New York Yankees in 2001. The 1991 and 2001 World Series were very exciting, with extra-inning games and ninth-inning lead changes.
When Liebrandt was announced as relief pitcher my heart pounded cuz I knew Kirby could handle his breaking balls and would find one to drive. The HR was icing on the cake

Kirby's the goat of ALL Minnesota sports.

YES one of ⚾️s biggest tragedies if not THE biggest
And if u ask Dennis Martinez
he feels like shit for blinding and concussing Kirby. He may have been pitching inside but his pitch was just a freak accident.
Kirby was great. so sad how it ended for him.I watched that entire W.S. & really became a fan of Kirby during that. He was great !

Smoltz said that had he had a few years behind him and the clout Jack Morris had he never would have let Manager Bobby Cox pull him from the game.
I so much I remember watching this on tv especially since I’m from this state 1991- 😮
I went to one of those twins Jays games when I was 10 since I lived right outside of mpls mn. Everyone loved Kirby!!!
My favorite
Loved Kirby… most of us small chubby guys did.
I was at the game.
10 innings, we will never see that again!

Sure am glad I was alive to see this one. It's still the best World Series I've ever seen.
You left out Kirby's game saving, wall bouncing catch!
We didn't. 11:00
I guess no one told Jack Morris that it's IMPOSSIBLE to pitch 10 INNINGS in a phenominal World Series victory!!
Analytics would have said to pull him in the fifth inning. Because analytics has destroyed baseball as entertainment and we will never see a legendary performance like this in the World Series again. the weird thing was.. I thought it was going to be about Kirby Puckett and the Twins. But (for the most part) until 4:53, it was about the Braves.
That series was something else.

Twins are the best franchise in history and I’m a Yankees fan wow
I don't get it.
kirby was the best twins player ever and i remember this game cause i was watching it lol.
I missed the entire series due to deployment on USS ATLANTA. We left on 26 SEP and got back 6 months later. Being a Radioman, I would be the first to know the scores of the game though if it was any consolation. I won 100 dollars from a southern hick Sonarman.

As a Tigers fan, please do a rewind of game 2 of 2013 ALCS between the Tigers and Red Sox from 10-13-13. Thanks.
We'll definitely try to do that game! Did you check out our Rewinder o the famous Matt Holliday sacrifice fly run? www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlFvM-f
Who’s “Don” Gladden?
lol. 7:10 we put a graphic because we meant to say Dan. We apologize.

Correction. The Twins lost to the Dodgers in the 1965 World Series. These videos seem to always have some details wrong. DON Gladden?

Eagles winning their first Super Bowl at US Bank Stadium was great, because Tom Brady and Patriots lost!
That bothered me, too. Not a “metronome”.
In 1986 Kirby Puckett hit 31 HR
Correct. We were referencing the 1987 World Series-winning season.
You forgot to say all the games won were the home teams. Has that happened since?
It's happened three times:
As Jason Trebilock notes, the Minnesota Twins won all four homes games and lost all three away games versus the St. Louis Cardinals in 1987 and again versus the Atlanta Braves in 1991.

Who’s Don Gladden?
"Metronome [sic]?"
Let the chips fall where they may, cuz somebody gonna pay. Kirby Puckett.
All that build up and you used the wrong call for the home run
:( You don't like Jack Buck's famous call? It's what Joe Buck referenced during Game 6 of the 2011 World Series.
@@SportsBroadcastSolutions In minnesota we all remember gordon's " Touch em all Kirby Puckett" call. Still gives me emotional memories😂 good video
07:05 The "old Metrodome?" It was nine years old in 1991.
We just mean it's "old" because it's no longer in existence.
I am in minnesota
He said METRONOME.
i was 13 watching that junk happen live
Metrodome, not metronome
Secret Bases’ lawyers are on the phone bro
It's fair use :)
"the Metrognome"????
?
Can you be a cool cat AND a copycat at the same time? 🤔
Absolutely!
Hrbek, cheater.
I'm glad the Braves lost . In 1991 and 1992 1996 and 1999 .
Wasn't Kirby convicted of domestic assault? And he's the goat of minnesota sport? Not for me he isnt!
