To answer your question yes he was holding the lyric sheet for the song, it was a running joke of sorts during rehearsals. This was a BJ Thomas song that Elvis wanted to cover for the engagement and he was worried he would mess up the words on stage, you can watch this play out in the original 1970 Theatrical release of “Elvis Thats The Way It Is”. Just before this performance Elvis jokingly tells the audience that BJ Thomas has out a new record and that he does not particularly like it, then whips out the lyric sheet as you see and performs it!
Great song dani! There will be bumps on this journey. Dont get frustrated😝 were all here and support you. Elvis had such a great sense of humor he had water balloon fights with his guys on the movie sets😂
Without a doubt my favourite song of Elvis, especially this version. His voice, the backing vocals, the band... all of it. The older Elvis I prefer, the tone of his voice is so much richer and more warm than his earlier years.
Utterly magnificent choice Dani, my all time favourite Elvis song and performance and let me explain why. To create a musical masterpiece within the studio environment, eg Suspicious Minds, is one thing when you have a top rate producer (Chips Moman) a single minded determined artist (Elvis) and the best possible material and tools (the song and band) where you can take as many takes as neccessary. To make a classic like this in one take in a live environment is something most singers can only aspire to. If there is one line to sum up this song (and Bridge Over Troubled Water from the same show) and Elvis Presley in August 1970 in particular it is this - Many can sing but only few can perform!! Released by B.J. Thomas earlier the same year this version shows Elvis at his very, very best as the vocal is relaxed yet powerful, both band and orchestra are virtually flawless. Elvis' singing of the word 'girl' at the end of the first verse is almost unbelievable!
Hi Dani. So glad you are ok after the storms that hit nearby you. Also sorry that the videos you posted were taken down by RUclips. Hang in there girl. No need to apologize for the videos. You are bringing so many people joy by the videos you post. It is definitely a bright spot during this crazy time and I for one really appreciate your efforts. Hi Melvin!! Thank you so much for the encouragement and the support!! I love posting these videos for you all, when they get taken down, it’s super disappointing! But I just keep pushing on! ❤️
Hi Dani, yes that are the lyrics that Elvis jokes with and read off at the start. Elvis was not sure about it, although he rehearsed it for the summer engagement in Las Vegas that year (1970). In the Documentary "That's The Way It Is" (6 shows were filmed) and which that song is from, you can see how nervous Elvis is and how he sings to himself through the unsure words of the song before he go out to opening night at August 10th. This version, you reacted to, is from August 11th and IT IS FANTASTIC!!! The song originally was written and sung by B.J.Thomas and released in June that year.
Hi Dani yes your reaction. Is spot on when Elvis sang those type of songs the qaulity of his voice came through he was truely a talented in his own right. If you search his music catalogue you would realise how good his vocals really was. Keep it up Dani I enjoy your time😁
Hi dani....please don't be concerned about your followers ....we will support you and we know these things will happen. We are not going anywhere. This is from a documentary movie of Elvis' prep for & performance of his Las Vegas show. Backstage, prior to going on, he was very worried about remembering the lyrics to this B.J. Thomas song, so he shows up on stage with the lyrics in his hand.
Great reaction my friend! I respect you as an artist appreciating the true artistry of Elvis and his vocal abilities and talent. His vocal talent is so overlooked by so called self appointed critics. Keep up the great work Dani!
Dani, this song was a big hit for B. J. Thomas, just before Elvis starts singing here, he says that it is a current hit for B. J. and he is just joking around that he has to read the lyrics before he starts singing. You might want to listen to some B. J. Thomas songs, he has a unique, incredible voice too and had serveral hit in the 60s and 70s.
There will never be another. Elvis on record saying he doesn’t understand the why behind his gift. What he didn’t understand is that Elvis wasn’t given a gift, he WAS the gift. The gift was to us.
This is the opening song from his soundtrack 'Elvis That's The Way It Is ' from 1970. It's a great song. You are right in everything you said about Elvis' voice and charisma and talent. He knew how to interact with his band as well as his fans. You are correct that no one could sing like Elvis. If you never saw the movie ' Elvis That's The Way It Is ', the original theatrical release, you are in for a treat. Every song is a powerhouse of his vocal artistry. Elvis clearly proves he is the best singer and entertainer.
Song was originally done by BJ Thomas Elvis takes it to a different level That would make him the king of rock and roll just incredible Thank you for the video I remember an Elvis
Elvis liked to surround himself the best background singer's & the best musician's and it shows he never got the credit he so richly deserved it a shame the only grammy's he ever won was for his gospel's album's did not win one for his rock & roll music he set the Trent for all that came after him truly one of the greatest entertainers that ever lived & so so sad gone way to soon !!!
Im glad to see someone who appreciates elvis voice as much as i do. Someone said because elvis never wrote his own songs or music he wasnt that great. Elvis's voice done its job and much much more
I would be surprised if no-one recommended "The Lady Loves Me" by Elvis and Ann Margret ... it's an absolutely adorable duet from the movie Viva Las Vegas
It was the lyrics he was studying as it was a fairly new song. I believe he struggles with it in the rehearsals of this concert and speaks of his worries over the lines. At 6:06, you can hear the rescue as Elvis confused the line. I think thats Charlie that helped get him back in line which is why Elvis laughs. If you like this one, you will like I've Lost You from the same live show.
Exactly. You can tell he knows he's in trouble with the upcoming line as he starts looking around for someone to bail him out and as only Elvis could do, he rolls right through it, flashes that smile and delivers the next line in the most perfect voice imaginable.
This for me is his best years around 1970. He had everything, handsome, no man will ever be as handsome, his voice was so good, no man's voice will ever be as good. Charm and charisma oodles of it. Sex appeal, no answer to that 😇. Who would ever have thought that 7 years later he would have gone. So so very 😥
OMG what a beautiful voice and song, thank you for reacting to this song. If you think this is good, I really think you'll enjoy the song "SOMETHING" from the Aloha special
Dani, that song is from the filmed concert and album, That’s The Way It Is in 1970. You should watch the 🎥 film, if you haven’t already, it has a great build up to the actual concert. 👍🏴
The papers he had in his hand is either a song list and or lyrics . For often if he sang a new song or was planning to he would make sure he had the proper lyrics . You'll never hear another great voice like that of Elvis ! I'm just sorry that you will never have that opportunity of knowing the Elvis we knew as children and adults but just the mere fact that your playing his music is enough for me young lady ! I'm glad to see it and keep his and other music of that era alive through play Rock On !!!
I once met BJ Thomas, who made this song popular (he has a gold record for this song). I asked him what he thought of Elvis’ version and he said Elvis had an incredible arrangement on this song and he liked it. BJ had performed at a couple of Elvis’ private parties and Elvis loved his voice. If I had to pick one favorite Elvis song, I think this would be it, and he never recorded it in the studio!
It was mentioned earlier but he did have trouble with the lyrics to this song specifically. He spoke about it in his documentary film That's The Way It Is. He had to learn about 50 new songs for this Vegas engagement just for this movie, very few of the songs he kept singing regularly afterwards.
I know every song he does .... And if I could sing .... As I sound like Johnny Cash when I do Sing .... I have been told .... But I would rather sound like Elvis .... As I never take any of his songs for granted .... As I Can feel .... As We all Can ....The mood he is projecting .... We all get it cause that is what draws us to him .... His ability to make it us doing it .... If we could .... That is what Elvis can do to each and everyone of us ....
Here's some trivia some might not know: One of the back up singers during all of Elvis's "70's Vegas" and "On Tour" shows was Emily "Cissy" Houston . She's the mom of Whitney Houston!
when i told you about this song a little over a week ago i wasntsure if you would do it or not im so glad you did its a favorite of mine and im so glad you liked it ty so much for giving it a listen you are awesome for anyone who dont think this sweet young lady doesnt pay attention to your request she just did mine she is awesome
I wonder if you could do a reaction to Elvis singing "Such a Night", he did an amazing job on this, I don't think there is live footage of this, it was recorded in 1960 after his release from the army. 💝💝💝💝
My cable has been out for four days so I missed my "Dani/Elvis" fix. I love this video: the hand gestures, the smoothness of "for more than just a day" and even where he flubs the second "whispering her magic" (he started to say "smile")- he turns to the band and shrugs "my fault." Excellent all around.
Elvis could take any song and make it his own, and make it so much better. He will always be the best

His voice melts my heart. It just does, I can’t help it!
It crazy wonderful interprétation of this song Elvis Presley is mazing fantastique bless you
I love his voice and your reaction, too! Thank you very much! Kisses from Greece
Aw thank you! Sending lots of love to Greece!!
I truly look forward to the videos that you share!
This was a great song I love it
Hi Dani yes your reaction. Is spot on when Elvis sang those type of songs the qaulity of his voice came through he was truely a talented in his own right. If you search his music catalogue you would realise how good his vocals really was. Keep it up Dani I enjoy your time😁
You're awesome, thank you so much!
Hi dani....please don't

Thank you sooo much!
Aw thank you, I think we take it for granted sometimes. I’m in love with his voice, could listen all day!
The song is a BJ Thomas song who Elvis was friends with and Elvis did this song for his Vegas show
Dani, this song was a big hit for B.
Love this song so much - was the first Elvis single that I bought and so special to me. Wish he had sung it more often live or even in the studio.
A voice unmatched. It just stings you. He is definitely the goat.
It was released as a single in some countries, but not in the U.S. It's brilliant.
I was brought up on Elvis my mom was a big fan of his she had some of his early records
He was insanely amazing!
I think this song reached No 1 here in England in 1970.
As always, great video and reaction... I agree with one other viewer”How the Web was Woven” or I’ve Lost You”.🇨🇦
Im glad to see someone who appreciates elvis voice as much as i do. Someone said because elvis never wrote his own songs or music he wasnt that great. Elvis's voice done its job and much much more
just the best singer that world has ever seen
Awesome reaction!!!. Love it. 💘
I would be surprised if no-one recommended "The Lady Loves Me" by Elvis and Ann Margret ... it's an absolutely adorable duet from the movie Viva Las Vegas
Great job Dani. Thanks again!!
Yes. I love "I've lost you".
right on.
Love this song! Originally a Top Ten Hit for B.J Thomas but Elvis really made it his own! Great performance! 😎🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦
I am going to!
Greatest singer of all time.
Hi Dani 🙂. Enjoyed your video. This is a very good song to review 👍. Outstanding job😁. Keep up the great work!!!
I loved this song soo much!!
My ❤ races god he’s something very special ♥️🌹🙏
The truth is.. he could do it live... absolutely flawless.. enuff said...
The King.....speaks for itself
Luv U Dani. This time Elvis is gonna stay.....this time for mire than just a day.....
I never get tired of seeing these videos
Great Review Dani The Sweets we’re such great singers and friends to Elvis
I really loved this performance!
I think it's fantastic a young girl like you appreciates elvis
Thank you!! I just love him!!
Those with similar soul truly suffer (I recognize), love hes voice it talks to my soul.
Great job Dani. Love your reactions
He also pulls out the third verse to Polk Salad Annie, from his belt. Reads it right in mid song, coolest man ever on the lanes...q
Please check out How The Web Was Woven recorded in 1970. If you loved I Just Can't Help Believing, guaranteed you'll love this one!
The king!
when i told you about this song a little over a week ago i wasntsure if you would do it or not im so glad you did its a favorite of mine and im so glad you liked it ty so much for giving it a listen you are awesome for anyone who dont think this sweet young lady doesnt pay attention to your request she just did mine she is awesome
The greatest singers are all opera singers by far
I wonder if you could do a reaction to Elvis singing "Such a Night", he did an amazing job on this, I don't think there is live footage of this, it was recorded in 1960 after his release from the army. 💝💝💝💝
My cable has been out for four days so I missed my "Dani/Elvis" fix. I love this video: the hand gestures, the smoothness of "for more than just a day" and even where he flubs the second "whispering her magic" (he started to say "smile")- he turns to the band and shrugs "my fault." Excellent all around.
I am glad you're back up and running! The power was out here too!
