    Hopefully the a9iii will have a ~30MP sensor with 6K60p internal (RAW) recording and oversampled 4K60/120p with full sensor readout. If photography was all I ever wanted the a7RV would be great but these crops are a real bummer for me. Oversampled video footage is just so much more beautiful.

    You mentioned that the rear LCD screen was the same as previous models, but according to specs, this A7R5 has a 3.2 inch LCD, whereas previous models were only 3 inch. However, I am certainly glad you brought up the quality of the LCD and the fact that Sony are considered cutting edge in screen manufacturing. It's bewildering to me that they don't use this to their advantage and have a class leading rear LCD on their cameras.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Год назад

      I think that spec is actually incorrect. On the spec sheet Sony originally showed me they had a "3.2 screen" spec on there and I told them it was awesome they were increasing the screen size. They then told me that was referring instead to the 3 axis rotation + 2 axis tilt which I told them was confusing and after using the camera, it looked like the exact same size 3" panel as the other cameras. So I think everyone saw that spec and thought that was a screen size increase but I'm almost certain that's incorrect.

That way when it's trying to select something I can always just hit that single back button to single point focus on whatever I want. When I let it go we're back to tracking with the front button.

    For cross-shopping purposes against the Canon R5, let’s not forget that Sony comes with Sigma, Tamron, Viltrox, Samyang, and other glass options that Canon no longer does. For me, glass options are this camera’s “killer app” relative to ANYTHING Canon offers. If this camera even comes anywhere close to the R5 in specs/performance, the ecosystem makes it a no-brainer, for me.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Год назад +2

      True. Every time I see a Canon executive, I beg them to open the line to 3rd party lenses. I honestly believe they will eventually but I think they are trying to build their own lens lineup first. I could be wrong but I just can't see them holding out more than another year or two most

    • @goodwolf152
      @goodwolf152 Год назад +1

      I would also expect Canon to reverse course, eventually…this seems like a short term cash-in on their existing “install” base, and is not likely sustainable long term.
      The only thing I’ll add is that presumably third party manufacturers would need to restart their development pipelines and scale up their production capacity. All of that carries lag time…meanwhile, development continues full steam ahead on e-mount. Sony’s lens catalogue is only growing while Canon harvests the profits from their almost 50% market share.
      TL;DR - I don’t think this is getting corrected any time soon, even if Canon reversed their decision today.

    The "AI" thing is way too misunderstood (and misused, in some way), blame it on manufacturers and general media (not scientific ones though). And we tend to follow this dead-end path.
    What it actually is : "deep learning" or "continuous reprogramming" computing system. Everytime some new information comes across, it gets implemented by the OS into the database and the processing starts right away with this new information taken into account.
    This means... if your device (here, a camera) does not yet perform to perfection, it just is because the computational structure is working on it. And the improvement shall come, soon, wihtout the device giving any prior notice. But it will come.
    So, if this Sony device actually hosts a "deep learning" processing system, within a few days/weeks/months (we can't tell, unless we are the actual programmers) you will feel a better behaviour of your camera's AF system. Keep this in mind, for it may be of some use very soon.

  • @KurtisPape

    For me the biggest disappointment with this camera is the burst rate at 10fps only in compressed raw, I would have been really happy with a slight upgrade and I was expecting 10fps uncompressed and 12-15fps compressed. That 1 spec alone is a deal breaker for me personally, also was the reason I didn't get A7 IV, Sony doesn't seem to have a direct competitor to the Canon R5, maybe they are saving that for the A9 iii?

  • @zyxyuv1650
    @zyxyuv1650 Год назад +1

    I'm not happy with any of these reviews... there's supposedly a 2.5 stop improvement with Sony's IBIS? That's supposedly "5.65 times better" which would be a dramatic improvement if it wasn't B.S. But none of the reviewers investigated this or compared A7R V's IBIS alongside the A7R IV or A7 IV's IBIS.

    It would have to read your mind to know what do you want in focus automatically switching from animal to people, because you don’t always want the focus to be on the person when there is an animals or vise versa and the camera would have to be able to read your intentions and I don’t think AI is that far yet 😂😂😂😂😂😂

They are just too expensive for what you get. Why not type b cards? I have the Sony A7iv and the a9, I and plenty happy with uhs -ii cards but with the A7iv I bought one 80gb type a card for $180, that’s crazy. And it sucks that they continue to use this card to get the full amount/performance with the camera. The ONLY issue with the A7RV as a hybrid camera is that it doesn't shoot full frame 4k60 but for me, that's a pretty big issue since I use 4k60 almost entirely for anything that's not talking head. But, the Canon R5 has a 30 minute record limit which is an issue for long format talking head videos so they both have opposite issues on the video side. On the photo side, both are amazing with the R5 working a bit better for fast action, sports, and wildlife with faster shooting and buffer performance and the A7RV works best for product and landscape photography with it's amazing dynamic range.

      It's not much of an image quality step up from the A7IV other than more resolution. The resolution can help with retouching, pixel editing, or large printing but otherwise quality is similar. The big difference is ergonomics, hardware, a few features, and autofocus but most of them you can live without if it's more of a hobby. @Marc Estrella,
      I shoot with both brands and I believe Dan does too.
      Particularly, I have the R5 and R5C. It’s annoying that Canon doesn’t remove the 30min recording limit and the micro HDMI. And not allowing 3rd party lens manufacturers is short term minded. Aside from that, R5 is a great hybrid camera.
      But as Dan mentioned in the video, the A7R5 has some big upgrades.
      If you care about the lens selection, need to crop for your work, and a hybrid shooter, the A7R5 is a good choice. If you have a A7R4 and a stills shooter, upgrading is an iffy unless you have extra cash and want the latest and greatest features.
      If you prioritize ergonomics, skin tones, and high frame rates shooting (stills and videos) as a hybrid shooter (and not annoyed with what I mentioned above), then the R5 is a good choice. The R6 i or ii is good but the R5 is a better all rounder if you can afford it.
      What I would like to see more comparisons are the dynamic range, lowlight, and video codecs between R5 and A7R5

    Does this camera "feel" just as fast and responsive as the A1? I rented an A1 for a week and, when I went back to my A7RIV, that's what I missed the most! My camera felt "laggy" and sluggish compared to the A1.
    And I don’t mean the AF system or the shooting speed or the buffering, necessarily. I mean the general use of the camera. The menus, startup time, time between switching shooting modes, etc....just feels INSTANT on the A1 in a way that it doesn't on the A7RIV. Additionally, there are definitely times when you have to "wait on" the A7RIV, one example that comes to mind is that, after shooting a short burst (only 2-3 shots) of photos, I can't immediately record a video, I have to wait for the buffer to clear. (this is even when using a 300 MB/s write card, since there is a write-speed bottleneck inherent in this camera)
    The overall responsiveness of the A7RV hasn’t been mentioned in any write-ups or videos I’ve found, I’m starting to think there is an NDA Sony made folks sign to not talk about it!

    • @learningcameras
