    As someone who went to film school and had several semesters in lighting, I really appreciate how you explain the warmth and coolness of light and how it affects people’s mood and appearance. 🖤

      Thank you so so much! I know it can be a bit of a ‘dry’ subject to talk about; but I know the people that really want to know about it are the ones that will be willing to watch all the way through. I really appreciate it 🤍

    DD comes to the rescue. This video needs to be mandatory watching for electricians (most have no idea about design and various lighting aesthetics) they know how to wire up a place and that’s it.

    Smart bulbs should be mandatory by now. While the need for rgb bulbs is dubious at best, being able to change both the lumen and kelvin values of the bulb at whim is priceless.

    • @mrphoenixgrey

      I couldn’t agree more. Yes they are more expensive, but the use and customization that come with them make it so worth it in my opinion!

    I recently moved into a home that was completely kitted out with daylight Kelvin everywhere. So ghastly. I chose 2700K, and am in the process of switching everything. I did make the mistake of too high of lumens in the bedroom, but have now switched those out. Next will be the kitchen can lights to 2700 and high dimmable lumens. Make sure you use the right bulbs for dimmable vs non-dimmable, otherwise you could get flickering lights. That was another problem I inherited from the previous owner.

  • @The_Smith

    Great and very informative video DD. I learned a fair bit on the lumens thankyou, I prefer lights on dimmers when possible, the sconces in my living room are on dimmers and are so nice for getting the light just right. I don't think I've ever seen anything but 2700, or 5000 K bulbs, so I guess I'm safe form being hauled off to jail (athough it might be fun to see you try . . . ;) ) I do have a couple light fixtures with mixed bulbs in them in my workshop, but I'm after what light works best for me to see things 'proper' out there.

    • @mrphoenixgrey
      @mrphoenixgrey  Год назад +2

      Baby steps! I’m glad Atleast I was able to help! And yes dimmers are an absolute game changer for any light fixture and something I always recommend for any of my designs, including renovations! Sets the mood perfectly! My only comment in general is to make sure that the light fixtures are “dimmable” not all of them are these days it seems which I feel like should be a standard

    • @The_Smith
      @The_Smith Год назад

      @@mrphoenixgrey given that a stupid question is easier to answer than a stupid mistake is to fix, what do you mean by 'dimmable fixtures'? I did have to have the dimmer for my LR sconces replaced with one suited for led bulbs.

    For living room. I need “ ethereal” . I love whites , off whites and powder blues or perhaps other lite pastels. I cannot stand brown in any form or combination with other mixes of paint color. Yes, I may want “ cozy” corner or “ cozy” in other rooms, but I need ethereal, maybe even spa-like or heavenly, as some may call it , when enter a room that is spacious and you exhale and feel “ Ahhhhhh”. Any lighting or other suggestions? Thank you

    you said don't mix two temp in one space. So what about open concept? use something between warm and soft white for consistent temp? But for which living space? What number would that mean for each space? What should you light living/dining and what should you light the kitchen with? please help thank you. Another question my designer is saying to do strip lighting and I find it not elegant looking. Are spots (recessed of course ) with a pretty pendent good enough to light up the space? Could you help pls

    Unpopular opinion: I HATE yellowy lighting. I always go for 3K-3.5K because I only like daylight bulbs, the warm pink walls in my rooms gives the glow that I want without it leaning yellow.

    • @mrphoenixgrey
      @mrphoenixgrey  Год назад

      I found it to be a very controversial topic these days with it split 50/50 with lighting. I would reccomend having a lower K rating atleast in a bedroom to help you fall asleep easier, but 3-3500 is still good for the rest of your house for a nice neutral layer or light
