The line ‘if you can’t tell, I’m scared as hell, cause I can’t get you on the telephone’ is one of the most real lyrics to me ever written.
As someone who seemingly can’t keep the worst possible scenario out of mind I couldn’t put it better myself.
It’s also powerful as part of the message of the song - I’ve been really low - knowing (from this song and how it made me reflect on how I’d feel) how terrifying that silence could be to my loved ones kept me in touch with them, which I think was so important through those times.

I had a violent ex-boyfriend at the time I was considering killing myself to protect my family who he vowed he would torture and kill and make me watch because “it would be my fault” and he wanted ultimate control and keep me from my family. As I contemplated how to kill myself, this song came on the radio- I hadn’t heard it before - the “there’s no need to go blow the candle out, you’re far too young and your not done and the best is yet to come” saved me. I felt God speak to me…. I knew then he would protect me and he did. I’m free, I’m safe and I know Gods love is real.
