I'm far away from hate. Just they are so generic, straightforward and predictable. You always know what to expect - and you'll get it, no less, no more than that. And that's why, for me, it's boring. As a musician, I (and musicians I personally know) want to be better and better (progress), it's natural. I don't see any musical progress when i see Nickelback... Average band like many others.

@@yemrobaky1718 I've seen the same arguments directed at ACDC, that their songs all sound the same. And in both cases I disagree. While I'm no expert on ALL their songs, I can recognize most of my favorite ones by the first tones, which would be impossible if they stuck only to the generic sounds. Of course I respect that people can dislike their music, however, it would be a lie to say that both bands remain stagnant in their work.

You have to throw the disclaimer in the beginning to avoid the army of trolls coming at you for truly liking Nickelback. 😅 As if you need to have an explanation for this blasphemy. I've always loved their music, I have never understood why you can't like commercial rock and super progressive stuff all at the same time. No lie, Nickelback can deliver emotions that some other "real" musicians can't and vice versa. Chad's voice is just a total powerhouse and they are actually a really good live performer as well.

I think a lot of it is based on their very safe approach to the singles. They're not dumb. They know what sells lol They can, and often do, showcase their actual talent on the non-singles on their albums. You'll get people who know (and hate) Photograph while failing to listen to another song on the same album - Side Of A Bullet. That's not going to get airplay on a top 40 station though, so I guess it's a trade off. Sell out a little to keep being able to do what you love.

I don't get them getting a lot of hate, but also don't particularly care for them. They were founded in the 1990's but sound like a generic 80's arena rock band, maybe with a little bit of grunge. I think they are popular precisely because they don't push the envelope--they rely on well-tested musical cliches and play them competently.

Nice reaction, never really listened to them before. Surprised that this was actually pretty good. One thing that I noticed are his vocals, he's gritty voice and the way he starts a lot of notes (vocal fry sliding up to the note), the way he pronounces a lot of the words (moora) is very similar to what you hear in a lot of country music. If you changed the way the guitars sound and add a steel guitar, it would be a good country song. That may have attracted a lot of cross-over listeners. Still, not my cup of tea. We used to fill stadiums with the Rolling Stones and now they're filled by BTS, who would have guessed.

Problem with nickelback is that they hit it big with these mellow songs and followed what worked. They're great songs, but most people don't know any of nickelbacks heavier songs.
Ironically I became a nickelback fan because they didn't sound like little bitches with daddy issues. Everyone else around me listened to punk rock or just people with softer voices.
Go listen to Throw yourself away, animal's, The hammers coming down, ferryman, where do I hide.
I loved when they used to play the guitar in one speaker then bounce to the other, then back, and finally both speakers real loud with the drums and guitar. Fucking Rocks.

I think that there is sometimes a bit of snobbery goes on in music. It is amazing when you meet someone how embarrassed they often are when you ask them what music they like because they are worried it might not be 'cool'
That's why I come here. I'm here to learn too. I know I don't have to like everything. (But I won't be told what to like or not like) If I have ABBA in my favourites, what is it to you?
A person who criticizes another person's taste marks themselves down not the person they are criticizing.
'If this was your last day.' is an inspiration, 'Never again' is a great song with a message, 'Rockstar' was fun and I loved the energy of the 'live at Sturgis' concert.
I like that you didn't like all of it. Marks you out as an honest reactor. (I know you won't do it for effect)

The whole point of a pop song is it's suppose to resonate with where most people have become acquainted musically. It's suppose to be good haha, but you know, we all start falling down our rabbit holes and defining our individual tastes.
I have online arguments frequently enough with progressive fans who I deem "progbots".. they listen with all brain and no heart. These will be the guys suggesting you be introduced to a band with a 20 minute track that has no chorus 🤣
Do i hate those epic tracks? Absolutely not, my user name comes from one(octavarium by dream theater + paradigm shift by liquid tension experiment) but it's a terrible starting point XD
Wish you were here by pink floyd is just as important a song as shine on you crazy diamond.
The strength in a unique well written melody can't be denied.
People will say pops too simple but nod their head to the most rudimentary riff and 4/4 ever... dummies.

If you're looking for a band people pile hate one, how about this? Genesis. I've always had a soft spot for a song on their "Wind and Wuthering" album (the second album they released after Peter Gabriel left and Phil Collins stepped out from behind the kit to take over as lead vocals). It's called "One For The Vine" and I've loved it for decades now. Other people don't, and that's cool, but if sometime you're out of ideas and want something fairly different, here ya go.
