    TNG definitely had a thing for corrupt admirals. Most of the rest of Star Trek didn’t have these “Badmirals” in such high concentrations, with Cartwright probably being the worst offender. On the opposite end of things, Admiral Ross from DS-9 is IMO one of the best examples of a Starfleet Admiral, and should be held up as an example of what they should be. Despite his serving as an Admiral, Kirk however never seemed suited to the role, and is best held up as a shining example of a Captain.

    Awesome video as always. I think what drives these admirals off the band wagon is fear. Fear drives people to see demons where none exist; therefore, causes their own demise. Another awesome episode! It must be part of the job to become corrupt, or as an admiral to do things for the greater good of Star Fleet and the Federation one must do things that are not in keeping with Star Fleet principles. Irony. I realize that you only deal with "cannon", books are not part of the cannon (good and bad). In the books Admiral Leonard James Akaar is the CnC. As much as he is doing in all the books it wouldn't be surprising if he was also corrupt. In the books Admiral Akaar promoted Riker, Janeway,Jellico,Ross,Desoto Shelby and a few others to the rank of admiral. Looks like he building a core of fleet officers loyal to him. The only admiral to survive entire admiral career was James T Kirk. So, how do you make sure problems like these do not appear again? Demote them to captains

    • @TriAngulumAudioStudios
      @TriAngulumAudioStudios  5 лет назад

      That's not really true though... He was demoted for stealing the Enterprise, thus he didnt survive an admiral career...

      TriAngulum Audio Studios True,But since he was not charged because of corrupted misconducts like Admiral Sati here,it‘s more about the reputation. Like those agents investigating Sisko's trip back to TOS era had said“ I would have done the same”. I do not believe Sati or any other admirals you mentioned here would be treated the same,except Admiral janeway

    • @songyani3992
      @songyani3992 5 лет назад

      chris sonofpear1 I should have add the word“reputation”,but physically yes,you are right. But Nacheyev and ross already had their reputations somewhat painted dirts. Kirk was doubted for his out of line actions,but in the end,he did not do them for questionable goals. However,these two were just like admiral Dougherty,the only difference is that they were not stretched to death like he was.

    Admiral Cartwright, wow his role in ST VI was a literal coinage of the hypocritical future (He forgot or maybe did not know how his race was treated hundreds of years before) "klingons would become the alien trash of the galaxy" REALLY.

    Let's not forget about the man that used a temporary emergency to wrestle away the captaincy of Enterprise. This infamous admiral is none other than, James Tiberius Kirk.
    Kirk's master plan was to keep moving the ship in a straight line course towards the anomaly, later to be known as V'Ger. The disruption of ship activities possibly led to an undiagnosed engine imbalance which put Enterprise dangerously close to an asteroid collision inside a wormhole. Kirk's expertise would gradually (very gradually) guide Enterprise deep enough into V'Ger's area of influence to establish contact.
    For such a simplistic mission, did they really need someone with years of experience dealing with unknown? There was no decision/action by Admiral Kirk that could not have foreseeably been made by Captain Decker as well. Admiral Kirk did not contribute enough to the success of the mission to warrant him ever taking command. How could such an unwarranted action ever have been sanctioned? One can only guess that Kirk leveraged a personal relationship with another admiral's daughter. That seems like the "novel" approach.

      Kirk is not infamous by ANY stretch of the imagination... He didnt do anything illegal to gain power...

    I don't know that I'd put Ross in the same boat as a majority of the other ones shown. Ross was solid. He did what he thought was absolutely necessary to preserve the Federation, a theme which came up repeatedly in DS9. The ends don't justify the means, but sometimes they have to.

      Any admiral that ignores the principles and morals of the federation is corrupt, it is the very definition of it actually... So he wasnt solid at all... A Solid admiral doesnt have to do something illegal to get the job done...

    I would argue that the cloaking device being illegal is subjective. If he had been on DS9, he might be considered a hero , and a genius. Imagine the Defiant with a cloaking device approved by the Romulans , and also able to phase through walls. It is like turning on your transporter unto your entire ship . Making it so materials can pass through solid matter. Oh Lord I read too much sci fi .
