    I don't know if anyone would agree but I feel the arm patch in enterprise is a great yet subtle way of reminding you how small star fleet is at this point. Because there are so few ships and such people can be easily identified by where they serve :)

      Same, I don’t understand why they didn’t have him wear a modernised version of that in Season 2 of Discovery. The recoloured version of the regular uniform that they usually wear in the series seems a bit weird.

    I know this came out long before SNW, bur the evolution from the DIS Enterprise uniforms to the SNW ones really does make it like the DIS where prototypes and that the SNW are the proper rollout.
    Also thr SNW uniforms are my favourite. So nicely detailed and tailored, and so many variants that keep within the style. So nice.

    Another great segment! I always thought the earlier uniforms were more functional and practical. I felt that "Wrath of Khan" uniforms were great for formal functions , but going on an away mission they were so impractical. I also feel that the "Next Generation" uniforms were just plain impractical. I feel that the "Voyager" style uniforms were more practical for away missions. I feel that the "First Contact " uniforms were practical. Star Fleet Marines when stationed on a ship have a "ship uniform" and an away mission uniform. When Star Fleet Marines go on an away mission their uniforms are a darker color so they can blend in with their surroundings. Standard Star Fleet security beams down to a planet ,just sight in on the "Bright" gold shirt and "BAM!" instant kill-shot! I am sorry, I'm getting off track. Star Fleet uniforms should be more practical than what they are. Strength and Honor friend ! May the 4th be with you! (4 May 2019 0656 hours)

    Great video overall! I enjoy all of them. One note, albeit a contentious one, all general personnel in the TOS era used the delta. There was a special insignia for Commodore, one for starbases/major installations and, lastly, one for transport/"merchant" ships. There was one additional insignia during TOS' run which was a wardrobe department foible (and so noted in a memo) which was then perpetuated in ENT's 'A Mirror Darkly.' Or have I just spoiled a future Truth or Myth episode? lol

    My favorite uniform style is actually one that was created but not shown on screen except for ONE deleted scene, that style is the unused Generations Uniform, It has the double breasted design of the Monster Maroon but the layout of the TNG uniforms however the entire torso below the yoke is division colored, Rank stripes were also reintroduced for that design to serve alongside the rank pips, Anyone unfamiliar with what I'm talking about should look it up because It's a really cool design.

    Great vid but overlook the Franklin uniforms from Beyond. Granted they appeared in a Kelvin universe film but the ship crashed before Nero's arrival which caused a great divergence with the prime universe so it is possible the Prime starfleet officers wore something close to those as well in the early days of the Federation

      The fact is that styles do change and since uniforms have to be replaced periodically, anyway, redesigns happen. Also, with things like working uniforms, new materials come along that are more flame resistant, stay dry better, insulate, etc.

    • @davidjames1068
      @davidjames1068 4 года назад +2

      @@garethfairclough8715 I don't know of any modern military that has changed it's uniforms so radically in style and so frequently. In most modern services the insignia is only a little changed from World War 2 or much earlier. Remember, given the actual size of Start Fleet, we are talking about changing millions of uniforms over the entire quadrant, in itself a very expensive undertaking.

    The uniforms from Star Trek II looked the best but I loved the 1960s uniforms the best, looked the most comfortable, they should have used the Star Trek II uniforms as dress uniforms for the old 60s ones. Pike's new design blended well the classic with a more modern look still love what they did with the Enterprise bridge.

    • @carlrood4457
      @carlrood4457 5 лет назад

      If you look at modern militaries, there are numerous uniforms for officers & enlisted personnel for a variety of job functions, weather conditions, terrains, and seasons. Obviously, for budget reasons Star Trek has reduced these numbers.
      I got the impression that the original point of the DS9/Voyager jumpsuit was that it was supposed to be a working uniform. They weren't worn on larger starships because those ships were meant for formal first contact situations. Voyager was on a one off mission to deal with the Maquis, so it warranted the working uniform. Note how whenever Sisko returned to Earth, he'd wear the TNG uniform due to the more formal atmosphere at HQ. This would be similar the the modern jacket/tie everyday uniform an officer working at the Pentagon would wear today, while someone deployed in the field or on a ship would wear something more utilitarian day to day.

    Didn't notice women had 4 stripes of lamellae and men had 5. Odd choice, but it would have made it easier for the viewer to distinguish the women from the men on Discovery. With the exception of Anson Mount, that was actually pretty hard. Most were neither morg or imorg. The pattern of stripes going from shoulders to chest turn tended to make many of the male actors look effete in the navy blue. The STD USS Enterprise uniforms are however the best uniforms of the franchise, visually. They even look military.
    The 60s go go outfits for Rand and Uhura were designed by Grace Whitney and the costume team, as she and the network thought the sweatshirts looked sloppy on the women for color TV. It is modeled almost exactly off a popular video of "These Boots are Made for Walking" that had been shown the December before 1966 series filming began and was very popular with the Matt Helm 007 generation.
    Nice retcon on the badges. Temporarily every other ship, even flagships used specific posting badges, but somehow the Enterprise kept the Delta. Being not the USS Constitution or a flagship of the fleet, just a cruiser.

      @@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics That also appears to be a bit of a discrepancy. The Cage takes place in 2254, Discovery 2256/57 Pike states that these (TOS) unis are the new issue yet Kirk and crew are wearing the Cage era unis in 2265 TOS:WNMHGB. Thats roughly a ten year time period. I highly doubt that they would issue TOS unis in 2256 only to have them recalled only to use them again a decade later in the The Man Trap (2266) To much inconsistency.

      @@erichelvie8524 Actually there is no discrepancy... If you look at the Cage Uniform and the Uniforms from Where no man there are significant differences to them, the collar being one... But even if they were the EXACT same since it is canon it's up to us the audience to explain it away... And right off the top of my head the explanation would be that ALL these designs were being tested so when Kirk took over he favored an older design...

    Is the separate ship insignia addressed in canon? I can't recall any in canon explanations for or against it. I know out of canon (in a production memo) it was addressed as not true and a production mistake for that awful episode (with the USS Exeter). But let's face it: most of the uniforms don't really make sense.

    • @ginagetscreative
      @ginagetscreative 5 лет назад

      A couple side thoughts: Constitution class vessels seemed to be under the command of commodores as often as captains. Did Kirk have consistent rank insignia? I think Pike had a single band in the Cage.

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  5 лет назад

      No things like that are never addressed on screen... But it is canon, so Assignment Patches existed... Also Kirk had a constant rank insignia... And there were more Captains commanding Connies on screen then Commodores...

    Triangulum Audio Studios why does Riker wear an ill fitting DS9 uniform in Star Trek Generations? Could they not find his uniform from the TNG series?

    • @Biohazard3r
      @Biohazard3r 5 лет назад

      I remember having read that Riker wore Sisko's Uniform and Geordi wore O'Briens uniform, to cut down on Tailoring costs and time scheduling concerns.
      Also, on a convention Talk, Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) told the audience that the Classic DS9/Voyager was the to-go uniform for the Movies by the producers but she refused and talked Gates McFadden into also not accepting this Uniform and they actually nagged until Robert Blackman designed the First Contact uniforms instead

    • @GoodOldGamer
      @GoodOldGamer 5 лет назад

      I think Generations originally had it's own uniform design but that was scrapped last minute so they had to fall back to DS9 outfits.
      And yes, Riker wore Sisko's, for whatever ridiculous reason. 😄

    Maybe I'm reaching but, I think TOS uniforms follow a pattern similar to modern Naval garb. Look at pictures of crews on a carrier flight deck. Each have different jobs, fuel/maint, rescue, recovery, launch operations, supervisory, etc.
    The basic uniform is the same, but each job has a different corresponding color. Probably the same on ST. Just an opinion.
