How Howard Hamlin's Death Subverted Our Expectations

- The scene from Better Call Saul where Howard Hamlin and Lalo Salamanca meet is the best example of how to subvert expectations correctly. Howard Hamlin's Death Scene took place in Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 7 Plan and Execution.
The writers of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul truly know how to subvert expectations correctly, much unlike other shows such as Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and more and I wanted to discuss that in this video.

🚨 MAJOR SPOILERS 🚨 To everyone whose supporting this video, thank you so much!! This video has MAJOR spoilers and just want to give the FYI that I’ve changed the title as it had major spoilers in it, but do NOT watch if you haven’t seen the show yet.
Put the warning IN the video. Not JUST the comments. PLEASE.
What was the title before?
its so hard to strike a balance between; getting to talk about media that you love, with a real chance that that passion will inspire someone to watch it and not being “allowed” in a sense of it having potential to ruin media
Very luckily better call saul it doesnt matter in the slightest. You read the dot points you’ll get NOTHING. The only thing that matters in BCS are the characters. :’)
You watch a video essay directly about the motivations and actions of the characters. It doesn’t matter :’) it’s entirely different from the emotional reality I experienced watching the show.
It felt so real. No final speeches. No slow-motion. Just, pop, dead. Reminds me of gus' death
It just felt so dang real! It’s crazy!
Or where Walt shoots Uncle Jack
Well, there was a final speech from Howard when he first arrived and a slow motion shot of Lalo walking in, but yeah, when he was shot there was no overdramatic effects
That candle flicker is the most genius art of filmaking I've seen in a long time. The chill that traveled down my spine as that shadow emerged from behind Howard got me more than most horror movies I've seen. We all knew what was coming when Lalo walked into that room. But none of us were actually ready for it.
It felt like a nod to the paranormal horror genre - an evil presence entering the house
The whole time I kept an eye on the dark doorway behind Howard. Great horror scene.
They do that in most indian movies 😅😅😅 in Tulsi, when something bad is about to happen, the candle goes out and the grandma called "Ba" panicks
The writers raised Howard like a pig for slaughter and we didn't even know it. I think the most impactful thing is that the Jimmy/Kim world was so separate from the Salamanca world. Kim got close to it, but this season it seemed so separate. We watched Jimmy and Kim playing these fun pranks that honestly had me laughing out loud when we visited their scenes and this seemed a world away from the Salamanca story playing out in other scenes. There was a comfort when Jimmy, Kim, and Howard were on screen. We didn't have to worry about the anxiety that came with Nacho's scenes, for example. It was a safe space. And having the two worlds unexpectedly cross paths and then immediately killing Howard with an unceremonious thud....was so disturbing. I found myself thinking about it and reliving the scene in my head for weeks because of the sheer tragedy of it and the audacity of the writers to go there. Season 6 is the greatest season of a TV show of all time. (And we haven't even mentioned THAT Kim scene on the bus)
When we reached the Seaon Finale of Season 5, I thought that we would see Lalo kill Nacho and Howard killing himself the same Chuck did.
Boy was I surprised when Lalo offs Howard and Nacho killing himself.
@@luliu4572 It would have been tacky if they both killed themselves.
Howard was the Hank of BCS. You start out thinking he's a total ass, but when his final scene rolls around you're bawling.
it's amazing how one scene can retroactively make a character you're supposed to hate into someone you mourn the loss of for a long time.
Howard is the greatest red herring in the history of television. The show so convincingly frames him as the villain from the start and then HOO BOY does the audience find out they were wrong.
You may have skipped a couple dozen episodes if you couldn't find him sympathetic until then.
You weren’t “supposed to hate” him bro. The hell are you on.. Did you skip like four seasons?
One thing that always amazes me is that even in Breaking Bad and now on Better Call Saul, even when I have spoilers of entires seasons, knowing the deaths and what happens after that, even then I always get suprised, the death of Howard got me like a punch in the gut
This is facts! We saw a selfie of Howard with blood in his hair wearing that suit before the season dropped, so I know I personally had a feeling he was going to die, but seeing it on screen was a true gut punch. Still not okay after that one LOL
Thank you for not being cheap and putting "Howard Hamlin Death Scene" in the title or thumbnail like every other person. You might not get as many views because of that, but you are great and earned my respect 🤠
I'm glad you appreciate it! Unfortunately the original title was that, then I realized it wasn't fair to have that.
The follow up next episode of Howard being stuffed into the fridge like meat, then buried in an unmarked grave under a meth lab with the person who murdered with the whole world thinking he committed suicide left me with such a profound pit in my stomach I felt physically sick. Normally I’m unbothered by stuff like this in media, but I was genuinely really fucked up with just how chilling the show runners handled Howard.
I love Better Call Saul! Howards death felt so real. It was very well acted by everyone involved and it was a very tragic end to Howards story and it made Lalo more terrifying. Very well written.
Better Call Saul is AWESOME!
While I laughed over the hijinx and at him getting screwed over since it's very kim-jim-POV, I definitely didn't think he deserved it. And once the light was snuffed (so to speak), it really hit me how unecessary everything was, everything that was lost, a man that had a lot of good to bring. Like... fuck, man.
I certainly feel that
That scene lingered in my mind a lot longer than I felt it should have done also. I think what it comes down to is that he was an established character, he wasn't in the game, and he was denied a meaningful death. That last part is particularly important. Lalo had a great death-he even laughed about it. Gus got to walk out the room and adjust his suit, how very him. Nacho gets to insult the cartel before shooting himself in the head. Mike gets to tell Walt to shut the F*** up. Tuco gets a shootout, the twins fight to the death, Hank faces his death with honour, Gomez sort of died offscreen but he knew what he was doing. Howard… blink and it's over, he never even knew what hit him. It felt like he deserved a moment to confront his own mortality in the great cinema tradition.
I had it spoiled for me but it was so well done I couldn’t help but still feel surprised
Poor Howard. His death will haunt me forever.
Sure Nacho and Lalo's deaths were inevitable, but I don't think anyone expected Howard to die and not in the way he did by being murdered in cold blood by Lalo Salamanca.
Patrick Fabian was fantastic as Howard throughout the entire Better Call Saul TV Series. The Show's most tragic and moral character.
After i saw the scene with lalo killing howard, i was in literal shock for 5 minutes. The man had no association with the drug world, and he was just shot for being in the wrong place at the wrong time
The most tragic character in BB universe, along with Jesse and Sky
I felt a knott just twist I'm my stomach watching him die. I didn't feel good. It was down right disgusting he had to be buried under the lab next to Lalo. Love this show.
Same man. Loved it
It's such a great scene. There's other times when elements of the criminal side of Better Call Saul interact with the legal side (Mike getting pictures of Chuck's house, Huell putting a battery in Chuck's coat pocket) but _nothing_ like this. By the time everyone's in the apartment, Howard's spent the day in professional conference halls, surrounded by astute legal professionals, and Lalo's been crawling around in a sewer plotting to expose Gus to the rest of the Cartel. Their characters and activities could not be more antithetical to each other, but here they are in the same scene, and the disparity is utterly breathtaking.
Tno reference?
I feel the exact way about Howard's death. I too watched walking dead and got and Howard's death scene truly stuck with me for 2 days and no other show shook me up over a death. Glen from walking dead almost did but better call saul has super powers from super writing. Also no other show made me feel so tense as did the scenes with lalo
Completely completely agree here
I miss Howard :(
same howard the got
You and me both :/
Kim and Jimmy's reaction to his death was the thing that disturbed me the most for a bit. It felt so so real. Kim's reaction especially, it stuck with me for a good while
Phenomenal acting by Rhea Seahorn, Bob Odenkirk, Patrick Fabian, and Tony Dalton in that scene and in the show in general!
Honestly, you totally worded how I feel about Howard perfectly in the opening statement of this video. I absolutely started out hating him and by the time he meets his demise, I felt genuinely bad for the man he became and was sorry to see him go. He was a great character and thats due in no small part to the writers and the man who played him. Patrick Fabian is a phenomenal actor.
It’s sad Howard and chuck never thought to have kids. No one to pass their legacy towards, and their wives ended up becoming distant.
Damn brother, you made me even sadder about Howard
What I loved about the subversion is the monologue. Especially knowing the breaking bad timeline, his point about how even though they successfully took so much from him he would rebuild was hopeful. That of all the cliches subverted this series, that Howard would be a good representation of how someone we hated at the start is actually one of the most commendable people. That even a sloppy drunk Howard still believes in his ability to rebuild, and can cut to core of Jimmy and Kim’s cancerous morals. Good guy has harsh scene, we face just how absurd it all is once Howard breaks it down and feel bad for cheering for it. Then Howard moves on and we watch his prophecy come true.
Instead it all materializes minutes later, and ultimately Kim and Jimmy have opportunities to rebuild while Howard is posthumously slandered by those very people. In a universe where children are boy soldiers for cartel gangs, this moment was still cosmically grim.
The best compliment that I can give this show is that it feels like a well-written novel playing before my eyes.
One thing I do want to point out, whether it's true or not (but why not believe them?), Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn have both stated that they didn't practice the gunshot or Howard's death at all - that it needed to be a genuine, bluntly real reaction from them seeing it happen for the first time - an experience - and not this thing they rehearsed over and over. I'm sure they did it multiple times afterwards - but I think the first take they did, with their genuine reactions, is what went into the final cut.
I’m the same, head was whizzing for hours after that episode. Love the realism - some writers might be tempted to over dramatise things and give Howard some cheesy or emotional last words, but not these guys. Just like it would be in real life, he’s shot before he can even comprehend what’s going to happen. Perfect television.
Thank God this video was recommended to me after I saw this episode because I would have been so angry if I got it spoiled for me
Howard death scene was insanely good! Good writing, good acting, good storyline, perfect cinematography. Just chef’s kiss (I was speechless)😮
it was such a good scene Bob Odenkirk literally died making it. (Don't worry he got better.)
This comment killed me, kinda like how Lalo ki-
Holy fuck yeah, the thing about it feeling like a liveleak murder is exactly how I felt, like it made me sick, and it took me a few days to rationalise his death, sounds corny but it’s just mental how much the show makes you feel about the character
Dude literally same. It actually messed me up for a few days. Something about how he hit his head just really did not sit well with me too
I've never watched Better Call Saul, but I do like watching thoughtful people talk about great scenes. Happy to subscribe and I hope your channel takes off.
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it
When Lalo pulled out the gun I felt Jimmy was gonna be shot in the leg or something along those lines and Lalo letting Howard go or Howard running away somehow.
I just couldn't accept Howard's death just like that.
It took me a quite a lot of time to accept it
Great video! This show had the best writing in television history. My transition from hating Howard, to feeling sympathetic towards his character, to my absolute shock and horror at his death, were perfectly crafted. The device of the flickering candle was so subtle, yet so absolutely effective.
It's also super impactful in a way where it is revealed just how much of a psychopath Lalo really is. Being honest, we didn't really care as much when Lalo killed that innocent guy when he needed to view the security cameras, as Lalo was still somehow a likable villain. Killing Howard was irredeemable though, and suddenly made us hate Lalo, feel bad for Howard, and think how Saul not only caused both career deaths of Howard and Chuck from his actions, but their lives as well.
"We", who? I was already on board the "Lalo is a psycho" train when he killed that guy. Would you mind not speaking for others?
18 people currently agree with them and 3 with you. Their we is for those 18 people, at least he didn't say everyone. I know I'm responding to a year old comment and might come off mean but I'm not meaning this In a bad way, I just thought "why not type this out to a stranger and see if they show up" have a great day!!!
@@dash_r_mediawe does work, but not for everyone.
starts off as kind of a pompous twat who has everything, gets betrayed by his mentor, later see he has a real human side after going through debt and depression because of chuck, tries to become a better person from the experience, the other mcgill brother gets petty toward howard because he learned how to be happy when jimmy hasnt yet. gets taken down a peg by jimmy and kim, then when howard finally finds the light to get out of his midlife crisis, hes unintentionally murdered because of jimmy's actions before he could clear his name and become a better person. stuck as the false picture that jimmy and kim painted. in the end, jimmy won, he completely ruined a man he didnt like in one of the worst ways. a normal guy who was loved by many, dead at 44. jimmy fully deserved the ending he got.
If Howie wasn't debuffed by alcohol I think he could have won a 1 v 1 with lalo
At that range he could have Ora barraged Lalo to hades
Absolutely superb video and analysis. Nice work
Wow! Thank you so much!!!!
Yes to everything. When you said you had trouble sleeping that night, I did too! And I knew Howard was going to die. It had been spoiled for me, but I didn't know any other details about his death. It was very impactful. I saw it a year ago and it's still affecting me. Then when you see what happens to his body and his legacy, it adds to how heartbreaking his death is.
What’s disappointing is that this episode was nominated for an Emmy for best writing in a drama…Succession won instead…
10/10 review of the cameo I received from the actor who played Howard.
Great analysis man. I completely agree. This is one of those scenes where my jaw hit the floor when Lalo walked in and when he just shot Howard in cold blood. The whole scene felt ominous , and you could sense something bad was going to happen from the moment Howard walked in, you were just waiting to see what. Gripping stuff.
amazing scene i just wished i hadnt got it spoiled for me im sure it wouldve impacted much more seeing lalo enter without knowing what would happen
When I first watched this scene, given what Howard was saying right before Lalo showed up that he was gonna get back at them for what they did, I initially thought that Howard somehow made contact with Lalo and now had dirt on them at the very least, or was threatening them at worst. His menacing smile in that slow-mo segment as Lalo comes into focus definitely gave me that impression at least.
That suspicion was obviously quickly quelled when Howard spouts his "who are you?," but once I heard that, it only made my heart sink MORE, given that he was now caught up in this situation. I share the same disturbed feeling you describe, that scene left me shook for hours after the fact, and it's the first time I've felt anything so visceral in a show in many many years. I didn't necessarily like Howard more than Nacho, in fact Nacho is probably my favorite new character in BCS, but Howard's death got me so much more than Nacho's because of how unfair it was. Another innocent falling in the game
I regret being late to better call saul. Ill never be able to feel the same suprise when howard died because i already knew he was gonna die when i watched the series
The whole series i was lowkey waiting for him to die. Waiting. Not because i wanted him to die but because iv already seen PICTURES of it. I never watched any clip or video because i know thatd spoil me. And i was waiting because i actually wanted to see it for myself but of course i never felt as much of a surprise and emotion as i did compare to other ppl. Which sucks
The episode knowing Nacho was walking into his death….. that’s the episode that got me
That’s another fantastic one! May make a video that one too
Woah you doin high quality production and speaking for a channel with 70 subs, hope fully you got thousands next time I see you. I think it's funny but awesome how channels do these bcs breakdowns and reviews but I love em all I learn so much from you seasoned observers
Thank you so much!!! I truly appreciate the kind words, it means the world to me!
great video. subscribed 🤘
Thank you!
Hard agree, the scene felt so real and intimate that his death was far more jarring and disturbing than any other on TV for me. I also had trouble sleeping that night!!
GoT was so close to making Jamey exactly that type of a character. But sadly they ruined him at the very end of his story
Just got done filming a video allll about this. Should be out today or tomorrow👀
I absolutely lost it the second I realized that Lalo and Howard were in the same room together.
This entire show should’ve been called we were robbed of our awards
Yeppppp

There’s the wiki thay talks about it so it doesn’t seem like I’m just pulling numbers out of thin air
They were nominated 208 times and only won 33 meaning they only won 15% of the time and I personally don’t know any show that has the same number of amazing scenes where everything comes together perfectly like mikes “I broke my boy” scene (just one example)
Vince got robbed of his awards he Better Call Saul
I think nobody was expecting that scene.
Great video, shocked at how little subscribers you have. You deserve a lot more!
Thank you so much!!!!
The main reason why it caught me in shock was that I had established this show to be two stories that were very separate, the cartel stuff and then the lawyer/jimmy story but what I should have known is they'd cross the worlds to do something like this kinda how they did in breaking bad but was still so shocking an surprising because as you said the shows writing made it seem so real, wrong place, wrong time.
I didn't watch the show but GoT Jaime Lannister. He went through the same transformation as more page time was given to him and fleshed him out to show why he was who he was.
The difference is, they COMPLETELY ruined all of that character development in the last few episodes of the final season by having him abandon all of that change and run right back to Cersea. I actually just finished recording a video all about that and it should be out on the channel this week.
When watching this episode, I had a feeling he was going to die and at the same time I thought it’s too obvious of a conclusion so him dying wasn’t something that was going to happen. In the end when he was killed I wasn’t surprised honestly, though the moments prior to his death were truly unsettling. That moment was truly a major turning point for Jimmy and Kim. They didn’t kill Howard, but had they not gone about making it look as if Howard was a drug addict then he never would have been at their place at that moment. I like how Jimmy basically acknowledged that they did mess with him by saying he would land on his feet. Kim gives Jimmy a look, while Howard acknowledges that yes, he would be okay. But only if that were so. Whatever frustration and anger Jimmy had towards Howard, he got it out of him by the end of season 5, from the bowling balls at his car to lightning bolts shooting from his fingertips, Jimmy was basically made his peace with Howard. Kim, however, didn’t have her peace with Howard and still resented him. She wanted to take him down a peg, while Jimmy wasn’t really for it but he wanted her to be happy, so he goes along with the scheme she was basically the leader of. Howard may have been seen as a bad guy in season 1, but he was a good guy at heart, even if he came off as a dick at some points. When Lalo arrives and when Howard asks “What’s this about?” You can see he’s concerned for Jimmy and Kim’s well-being despite previously stating he would make sure everyone knew what they did to him by making him look like a drug addict. I think that sort of summarizes Howard to a degree. He might be angry with you at one moment, but if he notices something is wrong with you the next he’d be concerned and want to help out in some way. Makes me wonder exactly what he would have done had he left when he realized something was off with how Jimmy and Kim were acting when Lalo arrived. Calling the authorities is probably the obvious thing, but I’m curious if he would have even gone through with making sure people knew what they did to him. Maybe he wouldn’t. Howard Hamlin was an amazing character and while it was a shame to see him go, he left an impact on the show and the universe it’s in as a whole. Great video man!
I wish I can go back in time and remember my exact thoughts of when I saw this episode.
As I watch this video I only felt a little dissapointed because his death felt really cheap.
When Lalo walked in i though Howard was working with him at first
Dude this was so fucking wild
Great video, but you REALLY should change the title because it will spoil the moment for future watchers
I never hated Howard. His smooth talking might make me smirk if I was working for him, and no doubt his lawyers would share cynical retorts with each other, but Howard always put the firm first, and if I were working for him, I would know that all I had to do was always be able to show that my work was benefitting the firm. I especially liked the way he finally said, "Enough" when he stood up to Chuck and bought him out. Compared to Howard, Jimmy's animus was almost childish.
Agree with everything you said here. The thing is, I have never fully identified with Jimmy/Saul. The character is superbly written and acted and the series was excellent, but I can only laugh at Jimmy or marvel at his resourcefulness. I could never see myself in his shoes. And since that's the case, Howard's actions during the series seldom seemed antagonistic to me. Most often, I could see where he was coming from.
You remind me of Nacho from Better Call Saul lol
It wasn’t me, it was Ignacio, he’s the one!
@@jerrystakes 🤣
"how a creator cant sync audio when he is using a wireless headset with significant latency"
English? I used OBS, ZV-E10 and a Shure MV7. Somewhere along the lines they got out of sync a bit I honestly don’t even know how to fix it.
I saw it coming and i didnt. I knew he was out of the picture given the breaking bad timeline. I saw the lalo intervention brewing. But hamlin’s death still make me jump. The gunshot, the suddenness, the aftermath. It was traumatic for the audience and it conveyed as kim’s emotions. I felt what she was feeling. Too bad howard had to die for that connection between her and the audience. but he was going to die and props to the creator for doing it perfectly to suit the plot.
Two years later I still can’t get over this scene. Seeing Lalo and Howard in the same room felt so wrong and you just knew Howard was fucked the moment you see Lalo come in. And the way Howard doesn’t get killed instantly but has to process for like a minute that yeah, he’s going to die. Even on rewatches it hits because the whole time Howard’s at that apartment you know what happens but you’re just begging him to get out of that house and stop ranting at Jimmy and Kim. It was the perfect way of highlighting just how awful they became because it was both of their actions that led Lalo and Howard to this crash collision course, and it was perfect at being just the messiest way of their actions coming home to roost.
And then the fucking extra reveal that Lalo and Howard were BURIED UNDER THE SUPERLAB THE WHOLE TIME?? Jesus. It feels like a dark secret you shouldn’t know and makes every single scene in that lab in Breaking Bad hit so different. Knowing that one of the biggest meth empires in history is built upon the remains of not just criminals like Lalo, but also an innocent lawyer who was smeared as a drug addict - by Saul, no less, the one who took Heisenberg from a small time local dealer to a drug kingpin.
It felt like all prior themes of the show were abandoned and it was a real person being killed
Faaaacts
I've seen people on TV shows get killed in the most gory ways possible, trying to get shock value. The fact that I'd say this simple bullet to the head was probably the most brutal death I've ever seen in TV history speaks volumes, cuz I don't say that lightly. I've seen a lot of movies, and shows, from some of the best directors, and writers. So my standards are pretty high. This was the only time I was ever left with my mouth open, and my brain so frazzled that all I could do was stare at the TV for about 5 minutes while I tried to conceive what had just happened. I was on the fence about BB, and BCS, and which one I'd choose as my favorite (even tho I consider them one in the same) and this was the moment that finalized my decision. This show is on another level. The emotional rollercoaster it takes you thru is amazing
Yo what, how dont you have more views or subs???! Your quality of content is stunning! Especially how you talk and edit videos
Wow!!!! I truly appreciate that! Thank you so much!
Unfortunately it was spoiled for me but still shocking. He didn’t deserve it at all.
Loved the video Jerry! Some pretty quality content for such a low subscriber count- hope you pick up more subs! As one of your nascent subscribers, my only request would be: More Saul/BB content please! There's just so much to unpack in these two shows. You may feel like you don't want to get pigeon holed, but there's a lot of enthusiasm for this kind of content so I'd say keep going on it if you want to rack up subs fast!
I am a sucker for sudden deaths in character dramas.
It’s even better for me because someone told me Kim was gonna die this season so during the whole scene I thought Howard was going to be the one killing her. What actually happened in that scene blew me away lol. But still, BCS is so freaking good at managing the viewer’s expectations and playing with them
The actual shooting of Howard seemed like a total rip off of Helen Pierce’s death in Ozark. The two shows definitely built up to the shooting differently but I still couldn’t help but feel like I had seen this death before.
The only times I didn't like Howard was during that meeting where he didn't want Jimmy to join HHM and Kim's punishment. I had a feeling Chuck had something to do with it because of how he acted when Jimmy suggested an office adjacent to his, but it had to have an explanation. Then Howard punishing Kim in doc review and that was on him. Even though he came off as arrogant in the beginning, his good traits were there.
For the episode Plan and Execution, I wish they had done 2 things differently. One is give it a less subtle title, and the other is I would have been much more surprised of Lalo's presence had they not shown the scene in the sewer with the cockroach. Great visual storytelling, but I knew he was on his way to see Jimmy because of it. Still an episode highlight of the whole series and a great death for Howard. BCS is the most satisfying and consistent series I've watched.
It absolutely didn’t with me. I knew Howard was going to die, the second he showed up, as the show did nothing to distract us to make us forget Lalo was on his way.
I knew his fate was sealed too, when he told Jimmy and Kim he would dedicate his life to exposing them.
It couldn’t be more telegraphed.
🤓
I laughed! I was so shocked and devastated that I just.... laughed. I've never seen anything like this. Experiencing it was horrifying you really do feel like you're there. The drop of my heart when that candle flickers, it's terrifying.
In the parts where it shows you talking on camera, the audio and video are out of sync.
Dang OBS
Was I the only one expecting Howard to save Jimmy and Kim after he sees Lalo?
This scene in Better Call Saul was the first time I actually said "What the fuck" out loud in disbelief whilst watching TV show. Like, somewhere deep down I knew Howard was gonna get burned, just never, EVER like that. He was the character I loved to hate, until season 6 showed the struggles he was going through. Slowly my hatred for the character was peeling back, then BAM! Howard drops dead with a look of horror forever etched on his face.
Thank god such a huge spoiler is in the title
Get over it
We all knew there was only one way all this would go the second Lalo entered. The way they drag this scene out is just so insanely heartbreaking... we were forced to watch. All you said is true when it comes to the realism. This haunted me for a long time... same as you I woke up at night and it just felt so real.
Thanks for actually pronouncing "Rhea" as "Rhea".
What soundtrack did you use for the first 50 seconds of the video?
I used the exact score from the episode Plan and Execution

The title is a massive spoiler but also, major spoilers for the walking dead which I just got round to watching and I’m only on season two, so thanks for that
There is no good reason to put such a major spoiler in a video title.

Hey man I’ve seen a few comments but just want to reiterate that the title of this video is a huge spoiler. Please change it my guy. Not gonna support until then.
“How Plan and Execution is able to Subvert Expectations”
I certainly appreciate the input. I thought about it and at first I changed the title and then I thought some more about it and realized that this whole video is about the death scene. Even if I don’t put it in the title and if you were clicking on this video, you’re going to be spoiled at the 30 second mark. Unfortunately, I probably should’ve put a spoiler warning on the video but I can’t go back and change the past so I am just going to leave it how it is. It’s unfortunate that you’re holding a title to ransom, but hey, it is what it is. I do really appreciate the feedback though!
@@jerrystakes I know but I just feel bad if someone is scrolling through their recommended after watching through season 5 and sees the video title. You would hope they don’t click on it not recognizing what the Howard Hamlin or Plan and Execution scene means yet. Just saying it’s a shitty thing to do.
@@jerrystakes I’ll let you in on a little secret, I run a RUclips channel and I listen to feedback constantly. You won’t get anywhere being in your own little echo chamber. Your production quality and analysis are sound, but not feeling any remorse for potentially spoiling a beloved show for even one person comes off as very arrogant and I have every right to red flag someone for that.
@@robberonbrentI agree. You can easily watch some random season 1 clip or review and then have this recommended to you and the title spoils a major moment. You don’t even have to watch or click on the video for it to be spoiled
It was unfortunate but he had to go
Hey guys. I think he thinks it feels real.
I had no idea!
T
Change the title man.
I already did
Nope. Not a subversion. Many had already predicted Howard's death at the hands of Lalo and nothing in the actual episode's leadup suggested something different would happen.
Hard hard hard disagree. Just because you saw it coming doesn’t mean it didn’t subvert expectations
@@jerrystakes The second half is more important than me merely predicting it. The whole episode and season thus far had built up to this moment, both storylines of Lalo and Howard were moving toward each other slowly in the episodes leading up. It was predictable BECAUSE it was where the story had been heading, ergo it didn't subvert anything.
@@jerrystakes Lalo showing up at Jimmy/Kim's apartment was a wrinkle in the plan I didn't see coming, but once he was in the apartment with Howard, it seemed inevitable at that point.
After watching this I was silently reflecting for maybe 30 minutes if not more
