Welcome to my new Patreon series on making a maquette figure in oil-based clay. This tutorial series is about working from our knowledge of anatomy and imagination at a small scale. We’ll be making a 1/6 scale male figure in oil-based clay using basic rules of proportion along with some common sense and easy to use anatomy knowledge. This video series is for you with limited space and budget wanting to get into sculpture.
This episode we'll work on and hopefully finishing the sculpture. Enjoy!
The full video is available to my Patrons who support me with $10 or more. The full length video is over 1 hour long and full of valuable information. To support me on Patreon and watch the full video:

My name is Eirik Arnesen, I'm a sculptor from Norway, living and working in Florence, Italy. I teach sculpture at the Florence Academy of Art and on this channel I'll share with you every step of my process, discussing materials, tools and techniques. Eventually you'll find tutorials on how I go about sculpting everything from a portrait to a life-size figure.

I know its not common but through trial and error, Ive been using acrylic paint at the end when sculpting in oil based clay. it's better with a more waxy clay. But I paint the whole sculpture first in a satin or gloss first to get a rubbery stretchy layer and then depending on your taste a flat based finish. .but you have to experiment with the thickness. adding and subtracting water so you're not losing too much detail.

but I like what you're using. I've melted a lot of faces off lots of sculpts using a strong torch.

They're very nice and pretty cheap! They used to use them a lot in the toy industry back when toys were sculpted in wax.

Hello! This is Chavant LeBeau Touche but Monster clay will work just fine! I think I'd go with the medium or with the soft even! Not the hard.

How do you mould this oil based clay sculpture? with latex or silicon rubber? isnt it very expensive?

I use silicone rubber to make molds. It's a bit expensive but the mold can last for many castings. It's an investment I suppose.
