      Have you ever made your own oilclay?

      Hi! Yea I’ve looked everywhere for this: I need to make an ultracal30 or Plaster of Paris ornaments from an oil based clay sculpture. What can I use to make the mold negative without having silicone on hand? I do have the alginate but I’m not sure it will pick up the detail I’m looking for. Thank you so much

    • @Cullens_Workshop
      @Cullens_Workshop  3 года назад

      @@emcreates1228 Alginate would probably work, but I think it would be a one off type of thing. With silicone you'd be able to produce multiples.

    One other question I have that I can’t seem to find an answer to is, using Monster Clay Medium and heating to be able to easily shape with hands, fingers & small spoon shaped tool, how long will the clay stay in that malleable state before hardening to having to scrape to shape?

    • @Cullens_Workshop
      @Cullens_Workshop  Год назад +1

      it's gonna depend on the ambient temp of the room. what I usually do is scoop the soft liquidy clay into a silicon meatloaf tray what will give it space too cool. That will usually last about an hour. clay on the model will vary based on thickness. but you can hit it with a heat gun, which warms the clay on a deeper level than the butane torch which just heats the surface.

    How choice between soft/medium/hard monster clay?

    • @Cullens_Workshop
      @Cullens_Workshop  3 года назад

      I prefer medium. I'm pretty heavy handed so soft gives a bit too much for my personal taste. hard I like for mechanical of scifi sculpting. it'a easier for me to carve straight lines.

    What liquid did you use that you applied with your finger to smooth out the tool marks on the upper lip on the clay board mouth?

    • @Cullens_Workshop
      @Cullens_Workshop  Год назад

      no liquid, I just hit I briefly with a butane torch to soften up the clay. waited a few seconds, then just used my finger to smooth it.

      Great tutorial btw. So you hit it with the torch off camera?
