- In this episode we travel in the Kenworth truck to pick up a tractor that has sat for 28 years. There will be a cab ride in the noisy Detroit diesel truck and some Tyre changing and getting the tractor ready to load and bring home.

lovely sound of that Detroit working hard she is singing well Steve
She was certainly working hard mate. Especially on the way back
That brings back some memories of running the putty road
Certainly a job getting it through there mate🤣
Any 8V71 working content is VERY welcome for this dieselhead 😁 Another great vid, sir.
Thanks for watching Jim
The good old Putty Road. Full of admiration for the old timers who used to travel that road every week as part of their job
Hi John, thanks for watching
That engine just sounds fantastic. I liked that old crane in the background. That would be good.
It certainly does mate yes.
I drove a couple of those model cabovers back in the day, one with a 6-92 and one with a 290 Cummins. You could find a sleeper cab and slip on her, they were really comfortable not much you can do about the cold firewall though other than layer up. 😅
Hi John. They are a good truck mate. I have a sleeper cab here but I like the slimlines. The sleepers are still very popular at shows and I like to have something different. I have 3 registered slimlines actually 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣🤣
@@stevesplacedownunder 😂
Steve the old girl sounds great. She definitely earnt her keep. Nice video.
It does Jon yes. Sounds amazing mate
Great Stuff Mate , Loved it .The Ol man had Chamberlain Backhoes Always Will Remember Helping him With the repairs
Gday mate. Glad you enjoyed it. I believe the chamberlain product was very popular back then.
Gotta love a 2 stroke slim cab 👌🏼 What a noise...
Absolutely mate
Far out makes me feel cold just watching them first minutes
clicked on vid for the tractor stayed for the truck sounded awesome
Glad you liked it mate
You are spot on there!
Hey Steve ! Cold Start Diesels. I was a boltmaker (cold heading) for 36yrs. I got to work before 5am and parked behind the shop about 25yds from where our driver parked his twin stack Peterbilt. On calm cold winter mornings he would start the beast and let it warm up. As it did it sit there blowing twin vapor rings up into the sky. Sometimes they would go straight up 75 to 100ft ! It was so cool. I should have got video of it. Another good vid mate. Thanks. I'll tip a cold one to ya ! 🍺🤛😎👍
Hi mate. Yes we all have those memories. I guess the interest is in us from a young age to notice things like that.
Just love old bridge's. Don't see many 1 lane anymore. Love going across in semi and take in the view of the river .
They are great yes. That one very old and still a highly active road. Was built right to start with
Awesome afternoon brother from another country down under another awesome save and adventure !!! Nothing like the smell of diesel in the morning lol rolling coal shifting gears and making memories awesome as always
Gday Robert. Thanks for watching brother
Nothing like a GM in the morning. When you reached the top of the range you saw the tin man that was once a servo it burnt down .
There was an old bloke after that many years who sculptured wood burners like ned Kelly and others but also had great sausages sangers . That's about 2to3 years ago now.
Just a bit of trivia for you.
You deserve a brown sanger after that tyre &
Your mate as well .
Steve Z 👍👌🇦🇺😎
Hi mate. I remember travelling through there many years ago before it burned down and calling in many times. Was a busy little shop. We had a few brown ones that night mate
Looking forward to watching the video later today - great to see another post from down under!
Thank you mate. Hopefully you can enjoy
Good to see you saving another one.
Thanks mate
Great job steve another one saved from the scrap yard go sounds great to .
Hi mate yes another one saved
Gee that ride along brought back some memories ❤
Glad you liked it mate
Hey Steve, I lost my phone about 2 weeks ago. Just got a replacement up and running. What a nightmare. Just wanted you to know I didn't forget about you. All the best. Jim
Hi Jim. I thought you were a bit quiet mate. I sent you a text a week ago checking in on you. Hope all is well
Great vid in the bone shaker with sweet music from the gemmy 😊😊😊
Thanks for watching mate
The hunting is exactly what they do when they're cold. She's a beaut
Typical Detroit having that loping idle when cold. Looks like a nice addition to the collection, Steve. Can’t wait for the will it start episode!
Thanks for watching mate. Coming up soon
Awesome sky view of the clouds !!!! The Ole gal looks tired but I'm sure she will come to life with alittle help
The sound while driving is damn fine thanks
Thank you mate
Thanks for sharing
Thank you mate
Sorry about the sound??? Who would complain about the old Jimmy singing?????
Amen. Bloody ripper
It wasn’t the Jimmy, it was the microphone. I didn’t have the wind proof thing on it and it was distorted because of how noisy it was. We cut about 40 minutes of driving from the episode
Sorry Steve didn't notice your little furry thing missing just could that fine, fine engine just purring along.
Gday Steve, good to see another to the collection, the truck went well by the sounds mate, top episode, cheers
Hi mate yes it all went well in the end. A few small mishaps but nothing we couldn’t handle mate
She's a beauty! Hope you get it running and working again!
The next start up episode is on my failed hard drive mate🥺🥺🥺
@@stevesplacedownunder Oh, no! Hope you know a good computer tech, fingers crossed you can get the episode back! 🤞🤞🤞
It made me nervous just watching you fly along so close to the rock on some of the stretches of road. You truly are trusting your vintage equipment with your life. Just another thought, some people talk about doing things, you do them!👍
It’s a lot slower and not as close as it looks on the video. Even when I watched it back I thought the same. Certainly different to when driving it
I hear you mate ! That is a chilly temp for us here in Arizona also . Nice to see how the tractor got back to your place ! 🌵
Thank you mate. Yes very cold here
Another fantastic video Steve good to see you up in the Hunter Valley.
Thank you Andrew. The sound played up a bit and was heavily edited but still okay
Had a nightmare back in the mid 70's about crashing and dying in the cuttings that are about 5:58 into the clip. Only drove the putty road a couple of times after that and freaked out on them s's each time and never drove the Putty road again.
It’s funny mate because I think the same thing most times I’ve been along it. If you did slip into the scrub there, nobody would know. No phone reception either, even today
Loved the cab ride Steve ... it wound the clock back about 45 years.
Thank you Jimmy
not going to lie, I had a bit of a laugh at you speaking low in the beginning of the video almost like you were trying to be quiet because it was so early. then i thought about the fact you were going to give the kenworth a kick in the guts just after lol she sounds good winding around on those roads
I was waiting for someone to pick up on it🤣🤣🤣. No there were a few blokes in the shed staring at me and I find it hard to talk aloud with a live audience 🤣🤣🤣. I haven’t got close neighbours really to worry about. Yes mate it most certainly does
Brilliant mate 🍻
Thanks Kory
That 8v sounded great on the hills.
Certainly did mate
Nothing wrong with the sound, There's just something about being on the road early in the morning and a good sounding rig.
Hi mate. It was edited very heavily. The drive footage was cut back about 40 minutes because of the sheer noise of the thing, it distorted the sound
Hi Steve. Great video, I am thinking you earned that beer 😁🍺
Hi Steve yes mate I did. We all did😅😅
Thanks Steve. Always enjoy seeing the the old Kenworth at work. You mentioned the twin steer KW, i think it has a big cam Cummins in it? Look forward to that. Cheers Evo....
Gday Evo. Yes mate there is a series of videos coming up on that one. It’s a twin steer with a 400 big cam
Man the detroit is music to my ears
Beautiful mate
Loved the video surprised the old jaques crane isn’t getting brought home as well
It was mentioned, but they still use it
Nice one Steve enjoyed that 👍vid
Thanks Nick
Great getting a piece of family history
It is mate yes indeed
Beautiful video man keep up the good work
Thank you mate. I certainly will
Great fun. Get her running !
G'day Steve,
Another to the collection .
Made for a cool vid ,as always.
Being a rider ,the road was very familiar, but it sure looked cold n wet that morning .
Looking forward to seeing what you haul home next .
Best wishes cobber.
Respect....!
Hi mate thanks for watching. Was a great morning heading up, but very miserable coming back Craig.
Hope get it bk ok safe travels
Great Video. Just turned the volume down a little bit. Love the sound of the GM in full flight.
Thanks for watching mate
Great work mate another trip suffering the hearing loss of the 871 ha ha. Tyres aside the tractor looked in okay nic, and man the putty range, I can just imagine the grey ghosts and other truckies flying up over there in older times and a lot faster.
Gday Brad. This is amazing mate thank you. 🙏. It got louder and louder as it went. Tractor is really good actually. It all seems to work still. Yes those ghosts were going through a lot faster than I could get it to go, they were a lot lighter most of the time too, but geez they went well I believe. The rigids flew through there, especially the 6 wheelers. Some of the stories of them are hard to believe
Sound was great Steve screaming Detroit love it ,but must have been a long trip Sydney to Perth in those old girls 😅😅😅😅
Kym
Adelaide
Hi Kym. It’s a battle the whole way through the putty with this mate. Sounds great but a lot of work. Yes it would have been a very long trip to Perth. They certainly earned their money
Good video steve nice way too start my day with your road trip beautiful looking countryside reminded me of brown mt to bega
Hi John. Glad you liked it mate. It’s great country through there indeed
Steve, if i had half a chance I'd dump the tractor and would have loaded the crawler crane in the background. Good find all the some though
Nice bud
Ust get box of laundry powder tip in bucket add water it goes all gooey cheap and works for tyre fitting
Gday Ron. Hope you’re well mate. Thanks for watching
Sound? That’s music mate and ya don’t hear it anywhere often enough these days.
We had to edit a lot of the driving out because the truck was that noisy it distorted the sound. I didn’t have the fluffy wind cover thing on the mic. That’s what we meant. I’m spew I forgot it
Hi steve you up in my neck of the woods good to see the go get um . Cheers mate🇦🇺
Gday Peter. Was at Jerrys Plains mate
@@stevesplacedownunder im at singleton
Nice one , had a 9G that sat outside for 7 years or so , one day my Mum and dad just pull started it up our road with me feeding it a bit of aero start into the aircleaner under the bonnet , then after about 100m she fired up and water and black shit soot etc came out the short straight exhaust,
all over me , but she fired up anyways was great to her it, the old Perkins , purring again . We used it for many years on the Farm . was Tail End Charlies exact brother , a copy with the really fast rear gearbox too . used to do about 75 kms P/H or more flat out which was scary going at those speeds with minimal brakes > I still have one with a big carry all on the 3pl out back. Its very useful still and can lift stuff high onto the back of a Toyota ute ! I call it my cheap side by side. way more useful and you can muster with it if you dont mind the Cow shit flying around your ears occasionally . will go on a tractor trek one day !!!
Hi mate thanks for sharing this with us. I love them. I have a collection of them here at my place now and is good to hear about them. None of them good enough for a trek, but the C670 Chamberlain maybe. Thanks again
Good on ya Steve for saving another one.🍻
I'll bet wrangling that tyre warmed you up soon enough. Haha.
I love all you 📹, Ridealongs, 1st starts, Revivals and Rustorations.👍🏻
Hi mate. Always a pleasure to have you watch and comment. It’s a must for every episode
Hey up Steve wasn't the puty road considered a bit ov race track back int day, looking forward to this so back to your vid
Gday John. Yes mate it was a race track for all the overnighters. This one of mine used to be one. Some great stories from through there, and some sad ones too. My grandfather was killed up in the bush there pulling logs out with an old dozer. Dad has a lot of stories from up there
I'm assuming that was you and dad? very cool that you two can do stuff together like that, good stuff, enjoyed it very much, to cool to have a cold snack afterwards? 🤔
Hi mate. No dad wasn’t involved in this one. My mate Mick came in the truck and my uncle met us up there
The Putty road was one of my favourites going nor west after working winters in Pitt-town, chased a paper truck up there one morning that was a fast trip.
Good times mate. Those paper trucks flew I believe
Howdy 🤠 from the Northwoods of Minnesota. Stand on it buddy 😅
Howdy mate
Komee yhdistelmä💪👍
Thank you🙏
When do we get to see the friction crane?? When do you bring it home LoL 😊😊??
I thought I may have been able to get it, but he still uses it. Lifts a stick crate on and off his truck with it
Hey Steve, is that frost in the paddocks?
Yes
Yeah mate it certainly was. Very cold morning
How many have got collected bud
Stop watch watching long ago when in yard. Will give a go this time
Noise turbo. Nope
Hey Steve what Year is the Kenworth ?
It’s a73 mate. It’s got the bigger headlights from a 78 though because most of the original cab was shot
