This is profoundly excellent work. Being a native New Yorker and familiar with big city environments, you really had me confused for a little while wondering if this was indeed CGI or adapted from footage of an actual location. Excellent job and I look forward to your future work in the backrooms!
You would figure an openspace would be a relief, being trapped in the backrooms. But seeing the sheer scale of a vast cityscape, dedicated to absolutely nothing, only seems to drive home the magnitude of your predicament, how terrifyingly large the space that you find yourself lost within.
This is utterly incredible. Magnificent. The only thing that detracts from it being totally immersive is the the camera movement and lack of footsteps from the person holding the camera. Would be amazing if you incorporated this stuff into your next video. Once again this is unreal - I'm blown away by the effort that must have gone into this! You could do an entire series of videos here. Incredible
It's been ages since any of my subscriptions have uploaded Backrooms content, and I was pretty much giving up hope, so seeing this was really exciting. I like the idea that you can escape the Backrooms, but not really. I find myself wondering just how long it would take a person to go mad in this situation. The part where the elevator doors were closing as it climbed upwards, revealing glimpses of other Backrooms levels, was particularly grasping for me.
My favourite one yet,💯 I’m scared of heights but in this video the feeling of “where is everyone” is more prompted than my fear of heights at that moment when I saw the dead city of New York that I always saw as filled with life and teeming with people from the buildings to the streets(still had sweaty palms though)😂
Marvelous video once again! The level of detail is absolutely incredible! And what an interesting, tantalizing thought; to have an entire city, empty of all life save for one person, all just for you to explore!
I really want to know what software he uses to get that computerized robotic voice at the beginning. It sounds like one of those old Amiga 500 computers with an analog Text to Speech function.
Neon Mall Rooms and The Arcade are still my top 2 favorites from Gate Sync. The nostalgia of Hawaii malls, specifically Prince Kuhio Plaza mall and nostalgic arcades like Tilt and Fun Factory gives those two videos to me goosebumps. This one implies it's the ending to this person's version of the backrooms until you realize- 👁
Indeed, this whole city area is a level. It's likely those buildings would be an illusion and would be far bigger inside than they appear on the outside. The subject is lucky to have made it down or up from that elevator that took him to Cafe Rooftop. Usually he would have been taken to a completely different level. Elevators are almost always portals to other levels.
@@gatesyncresearch Exactly. City levels, what few there are in the Backrooms, are generally to be considered dangerous to EXTREMELY dangerous and should be exited as quickly as possible. There are a few exceptions iirc. The first being New London, the living space & home base of the M.E.G., and a city (I forget the level name currently) that is mostly inhabited by facelings, and a smaller amount of wanderers who've managed to find their way there.

Unreal Engine 5. It's a modified version of the UE5 city sample pack, which is from the Matrix Awakens game which is built with UE5. This video has the least amount of custom level design, but still took around as long as the others.

cool vid, but too much blur imo.Your previous vids had a better effect, seemed more crisp and armospheric. Btw if your going for that 90's to early 2000's found footage look, cameras back then didn't have that much lagging blur with general movement and the focus was pretty clear other than a quick moment after zooming in or out (some cameras better than others). Visual disturbances from poor storage or from being recorded on low quality tapes or setting would be evident though, but not necessary to the Backrooms if the tapes were recorded on a HQ setting and found in a dry storage facility or found via the seemingly stable and dry looking backrooms office/halls climate.
Though i hate to say it, if you want a more realistic look, most people didn't have or use camera stabilization so the picture would be a bit more unstable rather than smooth with walking or panning (unless they were really careful using their arms to float along with the camera as a technique which is not common for anyone walking around in a typical manner recording.) But that would take away from the vibe you had going with your first set of vids prior to this one, so idk. Either way if i would say stick with whatever settings etc you had in your other vids. You had a good solid thing going on with the visuals and atmosphere in those
We're limited by UE5's camera shake. If I add too much people complain. It's definitely a balance. I'll work on it next video, but it is what it is. Suspend your disbelief ;)
@@gatesyncresearch Right on man. And just to be clear i prefer having no camera shake or blur. I'm not trying to knock this video too hard, i still appreciate it. good video, though my only criticism is that the city just doesn't feel like a part of the backrooms (unless of course they escaped, but into some bleak dead future). i was waiting for a peek inside the buildings, showing areas resembling the empty purposeless rooms seen before. besides that, i still find this a pretty good video, especially with the view at the end
I agree, I wanted that too, the reality is though that none of these buildings actually have interiors. It's all illusion! So it would have been a lot of work to fake walking into one of the buildings (there were plans to do this). This project melted my poor 3080, I had to battle through a lot of lag, crashes and massive load times, which held me back a lot and restricted what was viable.
So... I have to ask... how long did it take to model and render all this??? Tell me you're using pre made assets here??? This was insane, I actually got a chill from the cold breeze in the city... so immersive!
