Thank you - this was so helpful. Also I appreciate these smaller paintings as they give me guidance in trying techniques and different options that I would be reluctant to attempt in a larger format. 🙏
@@thewatercolorclassroom-bec7040 sorry. I wondered where that comment went! My comment was for a different video. I tried to make a comment and RUclips switched me right to the next one I had previously selected to watch! I thought my comment disappeared into the internet ether!
Love this tutorial, I just found you and plan to watch many more. This one is so beautiful in every way. I do have trouble with the drawings and I see that you no longer have yours. Do you trace yours or hand drawers? Thanks!
I pour a small amount of masking fluid into medicine bottle caps. When I'm finished, I pour the remainder back in the bottle. My masking fluid lasts longer without getting gummy from exposure to the air. I usually just toss out the cap.
Thank you so much. It has the number 22 on it. It was the second to smallest one they had except the really tiny nibs that don’t have a split down the center. That split allows you to get varying sizes on lines by pushing harder. I did water down my frisket just a tiny bit. Hope it goes well for you!!
@ Frisket is rubbery and blocks the paint from hitting the paper. When you remove it the white paper shows. I think that with acrylic you would just add light paint for the hair. I don’t think frisket would work with acrylic paint.
I have tried that (out with bar soap) but did not love how thick the frisket was on the paper even with a tiny brush. It did help save the brush though.
@@electrichen6243 I wondered if that is what you meant. The look would be much more rustic because you wouldn't be able to put in the fine detail. I don't see why it wouldn't work though.
In love with backlit flowers, kids, or animals. They are so fun to paint and quite striking. Using frisket makes it so much easier to accomplish.
That background color is so yummy! I would never have thought of a pthalo blue/indigo as a background for the green and purple but it's perfect!
Thank you. I admit they are in my favorite color group.
Amazing sharing. Thank you so much for this beautiful things
You’re welcome!
Love the gum pic & calligraphy nib...brilliant
Thanks! Oh hope you have fun with it!!
Oh my goodness! That’s beautiful! Thank you for sharing. Using masking works wonders and is so worth the time spent.

Like #23. Nice book. Great idea.
I’m not sure what book you are referring to.

Thank you!! I usually trace my drawing in interest of time and just draw the parts that I’m changing from the photo.

Really nicely done!! Never tried a pen for frisket-what nib are you using for those intricate lines?
Thanks for a lovely vid.

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Is frisket, masking fluid ?
Thanks! Yes it is masking fluid.
Lovely! Do you have a link where i could get the outline/ print the image? I'm not good in sketching 🙏🏻
Thank you! I took the photo myself and have since lost it both on my computer and my paper copy. I’m sorry I can’t be more help.
Lovely
Thank you!
Thank you!
I love your demo and am new to you and watercolour. Is the frisket used for the backlight effect or generally for the fine hairlike texture?
Good question. It can be used for both. It’s tricky to get it fine enough for hair though.
I would experiment on a small piece of paper before you commit to a whole painting. Happy painting!
@ I’m interested in concept of backlighting now that you’ve mentioned it. I use acrylics. Would it be different?
@ Frisket is rubbery and blocks the paint from hitting the paper. When you remove it the white paper shows. I think that with acrylic you would just add light paint for the hair. I don’t think frisket would work with acrylic paint.
Cool suggestion to use the picks. Also, that's not an eraser; it's a rubber cement pickup. :)
Thanks. Learn something new every day!
I saw a tutorial that said dip old brush in drop or 2 of dawn so as not to gum up the brush
I have tried that (out with bar soap) but did not love how thick the frisket was on the paper even with a tiny brush. It did help save the brush though.
Beautiful. Could you use wax resist for a similar highlighted effect?
Thank you! I actually have never used wax resist. Can you paint it on? If you can paint it on, it should work.
@@thewatercolorclassroom-bec7040 You draw using a white wax crayon or piece of candle wax.

What size nib on the pen?
I got one of the tiniest ones. I’m sorry I can’t check on the size for a few days.
Toothpicks are more environmentally friendly, also reusable and don't flex.
What a great idea. Thank you.
