That's thripes on your flowers. Put half alcohol, half water, and 1 teaspoon of Dawn dish detergent in a spray bottle. Shake it up really, really well, and put in about 15 drops of lemongrass essential oil. That's what you spray your plants with if they have any pests. It won't hurt the flowers, and it's not going to hurt the plant, but it will kill the thripes, on contact. You have a beautiful collection absolutely stunning! Thank you for sharing with us. 😊
Hi Dave, last night I came across your channel for the first time and I subscribed. I live in Port Charlotte, FL and it’s great to watch videos from someone who shares my environment…Try Sevin on your plants, stems and blooms without hurting your flowers..I also wanted to share that I have converted all of my potted cattleyas in leca and lava rock. This has reduced root rot…Thanks for sharing
Enjoyed your sense of humor 😅 and of course your plant’s. I haven’t noticed any Stanhopea’s in your collection. They are my favorites of all orchid’s even if they don’t last long at all
Hi awesome video killer collection… I recommend using seven it comes in a red spray bottle. They have it everywhere!! Also if I may say don’t say you have favorites out load like that. Because your other plants will hear that and hate on you… I’m not kidding. When I talk to my plants or about my plants I always say something like if I had a favorite which I don’t it might be something like this… ya I’m nuts I know. Have fun good luck !
Have you tried a cal-mag solution? Rick L has videos. I have about 45 orchids and I spray everyone with a cal-mag and rainwater solution. Try that. I use about 50 ppm of cal-mag. Hope this will help.
Hey there, greetings from Kentucky. About your spotting on your flowers after they are sprayed. I'm not an expert on orchids, but it might be Botrytis. I think if you spray the flowers due to insects or infections also set the plant near a fan to increase air movement around the orchid until it dries off completely. Your orchid collection is outstanding. The only orchids I have growing outside are four vandas and one Stanhopea. None are in bloom yet, but I am watering them daily and giving them MSU, Cal-Mag, and seaweed extract. Hopefully they will bloom before I have to bring them inside this autumn.
already moved all my under cover with this storm / hurricane heading in this weekend, i apply the fungicide after a heavy rain especially over the leaves i literally had a fan blowing on my plants yesterday and we just have a massive downpour just when it was starting to dry out. i need to go on a scavenge hunt for oak wood discs that folks cut. or chopped orchid trunks.
Your video is so timely bec I just spent the day cutting rotten canes off my catts, ugh. They’re all planted in lava rock which usually prevents the rotting but the weather the past moth has been crazy wet and they couldn’t handle this year’s rains. I’m pulling out the Thiomyl now. Good video! BTW I’m in SW VA. And you can spray insects on flowers w/ Sevin w/o hurting them.
I want to mention that if you live in an area that has low humidity, mounting your orchids is not a good idea, unless you want to saturate the plant and the mount two or three times a day. Humidity needs to be 75% to 80% or more, consistently.
Your epidendrums, not called ground orchids really, look very healthy. My orange and purple ones bloom, but the plants themselves look weak. What medium do you use? Perhaps I need to repot mine. Your Home Depot spathoglottis are also called ground orchids by most people. Yours looks good. I have a beautiful yellow and pink specimen that steals the show whenever it blooms. It's in full sun.
Are there any other orchid topics you want me to do an in-depth video on?
Sevin is been wonderful for me no more dropping blooms, highly recommended , you collection is beautiful!
Good to know!
❤❤❤❤❤ emergency, hospital 🏥 table, nice
gotta keep them separated

Sevin is working great. Thank you!!!
Beautiful collection, great care. Try to use Sevin, when you see the flower spike start spraying with Sevin.
Thanks for the tip!

Their blooms are just too brief! And its a little hot here.
Wow you have a great collection. Thanks for sharing 😊
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Dave you have a beautiful collection! I’m also in Sarasota and have a small collection on my West facing porch. Thank you for sharing! Great Vanda’s!
Vandas are the best!
That's trips in the flowers, I use Sevin, and it is very effective, and you can spray the flowers with no harm to them.
Thank you!
Thanks you
Hi I like to use sevin on buds and flowers! It does not affect the blooms. This will protect against pests like thrips which make the buds blast.
Yes! Thank you!
@@DavesOrchidOasis you’re welcome

Thank you! I’ve been having botrytis problems.

The orchids love those discs
My daughter loves air plants
Maybe I’m not good at growing them.
Sevin is the best
It is the only thing that doesn't kill my blooms

Very good to know. I think I water them too much

@@anndriggers6660 excellent point. Growing conditions matter a lot.

@@DavesOrchidOasisFrom local nurseries, but mainly from friends. We exchange orchids.
I found you by a " HAPPY ACCIDENT ", I love the knowledge you give us that many others don't. Your collection is georgus even in the rain. 🦩
