I think people (and especially ‘experts’) underestimate how strongly india desires to be left alone and out of so-called ‘global conflicts’. This is the fundamental basis for India’s desire for, and willingness to uphold, strategic autonomy.

    • @death_parade
      @death_parade 2 месяца назад +1

True. People don't understand that India has always been an inwards looking society, although not one that dislikes interactions and exchanges with foreign cultures. India is too large and complex, it is a world within a world. Over the past 1000 years, multiple issues have also cropped up in its society that warrants a deep introspection, and India wants to achieve that. Sadly, till date, not only has foreign interference prevented this introspection, it has actively misled this introspection in order to further destroy India's social fabric, already in disrepair due to the past millennium of incessant foreign invasions.
Therefore, India really does desire to be left alone. We've never had an interest in imperially exerting power outside the Indian subcontinent. And we realize that unless we are strong enough to deter even the strongest nations on the planet, our civilization will be snuffed out. Hence the desire for strategic autonomy.

2- Whatever Nupur Sharma said was a response to a Maulana who said crap words against Hindu diety lord Shiva. All you had to do was to see the full video of the event to know that. Later that lady got rape and death threats, even a terrorist from Pakistan infiltrated India to kill her however the Maulana guy is simply roaming free, like a Hero among Muslims
3- Due to videos like that, Muslims now in India have a free hand. They attack Hindus( Christians too) and even police gives a second thought to arrest them because it would cause massive uproar internationally .

Out of 1 Billion Hindus, some 1 Million might ask for Hindu rashtra , rest just wanna live and work peacefully like anyone on this planet. What is wrong if India ends up as a factory (as you impute)? Is it a bad word? In fact for her huge population's needs India is a huge factory (by global standards even) to produce most of their needs. The fact is that it isn't sufficient, making India depend on her neighbours like PRC as well as Europe.

IP (in combination with globalism and cheap, overseas manufacturing) is what makes the West so rich. If India wants a piece of this pie, it needs to expand competitiveness amongst small and medium sized businesses, fight corruption to encourage investments in higher industries and lessen the overall bureuacratic burden.

Thank you. I fully agree with you.
Yet, yours is a textbook case. Reality may be different. India has reached Services stage, no doubt handicapped by lack of full-fledged manufacturing to support the services. Our software engineers are (in the world) foremost in chip design, but we have zero capability in translating the design on to a chip. For that we have to depend on Taiwan.
Small & medium sized businesses need to expand far beyond what it is now. Our businessmen aren't entrepreneurs but just traders who locate where a thing is cheap to buy & sell to Indians at profit. In the bargain "standards" suffer as It is OK if we don't have "adequate" manufacturing. This mismatch leads to all kinds of situations (as well as corruption to untangle the hassles, yet get profit in them). If it is really smooth there wouldn't be possibility for this mismatch & resulting malpractice. If India wants that piece of pie, disorderliness must end that means end of fixings, jugaad & all such. It can be ensured if the gaps in manufacturing addressed & fab facilities are put to answer (meet) the demand.

India was constantly questioned on it's decision to act for the interest of Indian people i.e buying cheap Russian oil. While that weakens Europe's sanctions, that's not India's problem. Eventually Europe is letting India buy Russian oil, refine it and sell back in order keep oil prices low and wash their hands of dirty sources.

If Western countries wanted India or other countries to stop buying russian oil, they'd simply ban russian oil being transported on Western owned/insured ships (which is most ships). But that would have caused a global oil market crash, which they wanted to avoid. Instead they imposed a price cap. A price cap would keep supplies flowing, keep the market steady, but would cost russia in profits, which is the main goal. The goal was never to stop anyone from buying russian oil. The fact that India is getting cheap oil of the deal is considered an added bonus by most serious minded Western analysts. The only people complaining about India buying russian oil are dimwits online who don't understand the function of Western sanctions.

Yes. If they (Russians) sell the same oil in Europe, probably they'll get double the price. And Russia needs money for her Ukraine war.
But there is a fly in the ointment - the sanctions imposed on Russia due to which Russia is obliged to sell her crude to India, albeit at cheaper price.
Once the crude is turned into down-stream products in a refinery, you can't call it "Russian". Suppose Japan imports iron ore from India, makes it to steel & sells in America, do the Americans call it Indian steel? In fact it is a shade better than that. In the refinery, several crudes (from different sources or countries) are blended, processed/cracked to yield Petrol (gasolene), Diesel, a whole host of lubricants, mineral oils & some cooking gas too.

India being termed as an "electoral autocracy" is definitely backed by ulterior motives. Yes this Prime Minister is the most rooted to his culture. But in his term, his incentives and schemes have benifitted all citizens equally. Extreme poverty is at its lowest and the economy is on the right track. It is easy and sometimes skewed to quote articles, news and papers but the ground reality is that a common person in India can see for himself/herself how much the infrastructure has grown, how much better their lifestyle has become and how much more confident their government is. This is also the reason why Modi won his second term with overwhelming majority, even winning seats in Muslim majority constituencies. This will also be the reason why BJP will win its next election.

It offers an option to choose a servant to the nation, depending on the need of the nation at that moment. Every political party will (promise to) deliver all goods at a time - country's security & defence; Economy growth & welfare (HEW=Health, Education & welfare or Social empowerment). The voter should treat the "Netaa" as a servant & choose that chap fitting the need. But what is happening now is just the reverse.
In WW II, when German Luftwaffe was pulverising Britain to smithereens, Churchill stood it all, encouraging his nation to fight & won the war (of course with American money & Russian blood, but they were the allies, damn it). After the War, when peace prevailed, the same British public dumped him in the election for good. We get to hear no more of him.

This feels very western-biased. The world would still have US troops in over 7 countries even if Russia became the most peaceful nation on earth tomorrow. The USA would also expand, too. Not that Russia is good, but the USA kills more civilians most years than any other nation. Or at least, by proxy we do. And it's unreasonable to claim india should trust the west after the genocides that colonists did, and the way the west uses countries as colonies today, informally through corporations and corruption. Why would India align with powers that fairly openly seek to subjugate them? India has no ideal nation to partner with, but Russia and BRICS are arguably the best option. Tough to fault them for being rationally self-interested while remaining mostly isolationist.

That's why India is willing to work with China in BRICS, they both know they're not white enough to pass into the clup, and keep any of their original culture. Japan and Korea have been SO westernized since their respective wars. And sure, it's decent to be a japanese person, but not so great to be korean, for the VAST majority at least.

People outside the US seem to be consistently exagerating the unipolarity of the world and the hegemony of the US. For only a few years immediatly after WW2 was the US the near totality of Western power, but after Europe and Japan were rebuilt it was simply the leading power in the west and never dominated it's allies in the way that the USSR subjugated it's vassal states in the Warsaw pact. The idea that the Cold War was symetrical in this way with US as an overlord was always nothing but Soviet propaganda to their subject states to convince them that subjugation was inevitable no matter what side they were on, Eastern Europe correctly saw this as a lie but people outside Europe have seemingly swallowed it because of its use in domestic grivance politics.
Post coldwar their was a badly misplaced triumpalism in the US and a belif that it was now unrivaled, this lead to neo-conservatives within the US to abuse allies and conduct destructive miliary adventurism which rightly got push back from the rest of the world, note that they also implimented brutal mask-off capitalism at home devestating the American middle class. But the important thing to remember is that the whole unipolar world NEVER existed and could never have existed at that time, the US as a portion of world economic and military power was down in the 20-25% range by then which is simply not enough to dominate unilaterally. It was only the NATO alliance + East Asian Tigers which constituted an unrivaled powerblock, and this inherently means multi-polarity, the 'western' more accuratly 'democratic' alliance simply contained multiple poles within it, just as the nacent Russia-China-Iran alliance is also multipolar. The consistent lack of unified action and potential for realignments by members prove that neither block is being dominated by one hegemon which controls other states the way the USSR did.

    1. India is a democracy. For now. But if the government continues to control the media, it will not remain a democracy. Freedom of the press is one of the key things that makes a democracy a democracy, as it can criticize the government. A government with control of the press is a government on the road to dictatorship.
    2. Hindu nationalism. If you define being a citizen of India as being Hindu, then you exclude those not Hindu, in this case Muslims, from being full citizens of India. If rhetoric is allowed to become policy and discrimination grows extreme enough, India will have a civil war on its hands, as around 20% of their population is Muslim.

    • @RR-pc7yv
      @RR-pc7yv 11 месяцев назад

1). On what basis, you've reached this conclusion? India was, is and will always be a democracy. But for Indians, India & Indianness is of the utmost importance. Why are you Westerners so obsessed with democracy when you yourself are having flawed democracies. India being a democracy or non-democracy, is and should never be your concern. It is up to the people of India to decide.
And please do your own research instead of forming your views and opinion about India on the basis of this content aka these random videos made by such ill-informed and over-opinionated Western social media content creators and RUclipsrs.
2). You have no idea what you're talking about. You have no idea who Hindus are and what their nature is, as a community. The so-called Hindu Nationalism is basically Indian nativism. Indian Hindus have no history of persecuting and committing genocide of other religious groups. Hindus gave refuge to both the Jews and Iranian Zoroastrians who sought refuge in India because of their persecution by others. These communities prospered in India.
Hindu Nationalism = India's cultural revivalism, indigenous Indian identity consciousness, reaction to Christo-Islamic aggression, etc. You would be surprised to know that there are many Indian Muslims and Christians who do subscribe to such views and ideology. There are lots of non-Hindus in the so-called Hindu Nationalist organisations and groups. So your claim of Hindu Nationalism being exclusive is pure BS. People who have Indianness are Indians irrespective of their religious affiliations.
Reality is that the so-called Hindu-majority Indian state in itself is discriminatory against Hindus. Hindu temples and institutions are under Govt control. But same is not the case with Mosques and Churches in India. Indian Govt until recently, even use to provide subsidy for Hajj pilgrimage to Indian Muslims. This isn't the case with Hindus. Indian Muslims have those privileges which even Muslims who live in Islamic/Muslim-majority/Muslim-dominated states don't have. Like Sharia law and having personal law in civil matters on the basis of religion. Yes, the secular Indian state and its constitution has partial Sharia as part of its constitution. Do you Yanks and Westerners have such Sharia-based laws as part of your countries' laws?
Indian Muslims are even allowed to have 4 wives in the name of personal law and freedom of religion. This isn't the case with Hindus in India.
The population of Muslims in India is in between 14-20% and this includes those Ms too who live in India illegally. Like Bangladeshi and Rohingaya Muslims who cause lots of problems and law & order issues. Rest of your claims are also BS. That's all.

This video is a gross misrepresentation of India and i would encourage the creator to do better research. I will outline a few points to establish why i say this piece is poorly researched.
    1. Nupur Sharma - did she say something disparaging about Md? Yes. Is this allowed under freedom of expression? Yes. Remember the case of Charlie Hebdo? The rules around freedom of speech and expression include speech that is deemed offensive. Those criticizing the government around their treatment of Sharma do so not because they are fanatics but because they see the setting of a dangerous legal precedent.
    2. Hindutva - "tva" means essence. In other words hindutva is the essence of hinduism. For some strange reason western commentators feel that it is a bad thing. There is no evidence to support it. Most western countries are essentially christian nation states. How many have non-christian heads of state? India on the other hand has heads of state from a variety of faiths.
    3. Are minorities in danger - this is utter nonsense. The minority populations in India have grown as a percentage of the overall population. This wouldn't be the case if there was discrimination against them. I would refer those interested to the Pew research that surveyed indian minorities and found that they overwhelmingly felt safe in India.
    4. NRC - India, Nepal and Bhutan are the only hindu majority countries in the world. In sharp contrast there are several christian and muslim majority countries. Mostly in muslim majority countries, the population of hindu's has tanked due to religious persecution and forced conversions. However, you will never hear a mention of this from western commentators. The NRC was devised to allow such hindus and other persecuted minorities a safe haven.

Spoken like a true westerner who has no idea about india's history, did the west helped us in 1971 war with pakistan, no infact US sent Task Force 74 i to bay of bengal( it had a nuclear powered aircraft carrier) then it was Soviets that helped us by sending their submarine armed with nuclear warheads to bay of bengal, US also asked china to get involved but china was unable to do so as indian army has already planned if china decides to jump in the war.
Let's talk about friendships with US, so before russia-ukraine war started biden and many other western leaders were going to ukraine and were expressing their solidarity with ukraine and they made big promises to send armies if russia invades but what happened as soon as the war started US and other western countries refused to send armies and told ukraine to fight themselves and saying thinks like ukraine have to defend itself and we can't help them, so western countries are backstabbers how can you trust them they could do the same and risk millions of indian lives by doing so, russia and china are closer to india than western countries india can't isolate themselves by being west's puppet.
Talking about russian invasion, western countries are imperialistic in their nature and that haven't changed why did america invaded iraq, where are the weapons of mass destruction? Did anyone find them yet? What about what US did in libya where's the accountability for that? If america or any western power does something wrong, nothing happens but if some country do not do what US wants them to do than they are banned, sanctioned what kind of leader US is? Just a hypocrite and all the other countries in europe are it's puppet who will do whatever US wants them to do which is just pathetic. US is responsible for more than half of the conflicts going on in the world, they go and support rebel forces around the world, they have toppled so many governments and then they make a corrupt dictator the ruler of the country, it will nice if US or any western country do no teach democracy to the world, they are the most evil in the world.
What Russia did to ukraine is quite bad and it is an invasion as millions of Ukrainians have lost their homes and thousands have been killed there's no doubt but US and all the other western countries that are puppet state of US have done worse crimes in the name of establishing democracy around the world .
Also, if US and other western countries are so good, why did US supported Saddam Hussein during Iraq invasion of iran, they provided him with weapons and what happened after that do you remember, in 1990 saddam hussein instructed it's army to invade kuwait possibly using the same weapons that US provided them.
Don't give this BS like who is wrong and who is right, both sides are wrong western side is probably more in the wrong, india can decide for itself where it should head

Recently, the USA rebuked when asked about Indian democracy and asked that person to visit New Delhi and see for yourself. I quote
"India is a vibrant democracy. Anybody that, you know, happens to go to New Delhi can see that for themselves. John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House.
European ratings of India will always reduce because India doesn't follow their instructions and on top of that India also hasn't openly condemned Russia.
And, Muslims, if India is so bad, I have never seen a ship of Indian Muslims trying to reach Europe or any other country. Because reason is simple, the arguments you want to portray are far away from reality. Pakistanis despite being a Muslim country and once Indians now flocking to European shores(recent ship sinking incident).
Anyway, now the real issue, the problem is that(completely my opinion) if India completely abandons Russia, then there would be three troika nuclear nations of China, Pakistan, and Russia at India's border, and Europe and America are far away from India. So, in my opinion, India would not like to get isolated in its neighborhood.

There are some truths in this analysis, but one of the biggest flaws are about the notion about India’s government creating divisions, suppressing muslims. In the past they have even been accused of doing more for Muslims than Hindus, now that minority groups are no longer getting the special attention they were receiving before, due to the current promotion of reviving ancient culture in India, this is being perceived as a threat to those who don’t want to see India rise (including Indians who are impacted by a colonial mind set).
Out of all of the minority groups, the main group that feels threatened by this ‘Hinduva’ rising are the Muslim extremists who would wish for Islam to be promoted more; they don’t like this shift in attention. But every mature minority in the country feels safe & liberated if Bharat’s ancient culture was to be revived. Sanatan Dharma only considers truth & identifies the whole planet as many manifestations all coming from the same source, or we could say many cultures coming from the same planet, all one, one family, it’s not about one cultural group vs the other. If one is promoting Secular-ism, it is usually a disguise to ultimately get what they want in the long term. However simply being secular or universal in administration and power, this is what Sanatan Dharma can achieve, it’s just that strangers to it, feel that it is only for one cultural group, but in reality it is not. All Indians, it’s neighbours and the entire planet will benefit out of its efficacy and not out of its dominance over others which have been the approach of many others parts of the world.

    1. Muslims are not an ethnic group. Indian Muslims have the same blood as Hindus and their ancestors were once Hindu before being forced into conversion by the sword or "encouraged" through jizya.
    2. Hinduism is not an Abrahamic religion. Stop projecting your ideas of what religion is onto your understanding of Hinduism and understand Hinduism for its pluralism and spiritual liberation through many different mechanisms such as discourse, debate, asceticism, yoga, metaphysics, and so on, none of which involve proselytizing or forcing conversion. Hindus do not believe in forced conversion and this is what allowed for the pluralism that has always existed in India. Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs are all branches of the same tree of "Dharma" and the former two have existed for thousands of years with rare bouts of persecution by Hindus, if not never.
    3. Never once do Western liberals and commentators ever mention the *actual* crimes of Pakistan and the fact that Pakistan was formed by Muslims on the basis that Muslims and Hindus cannot co-exist. These peaceful neighbors went on to use their resources to conduct cross-border religious terrorism and fund Islamic extremism in India. And yet India is an easy punching bag despite the fact that India has a liberal democratic framework that guarantees freedom of religion and the abolish of caste and religious discrimination. They are more obsessed with the fantasy of radicalized Hindus then the actual crimes of Jihadis on every corner of India. India is home to 200 million Muslims but less than 2% of Pakistanis are Hindus. This should tell you everything you need to know about the nature of Hinduism and Islam in the Indian subcontinent.
Please do not source your studies on India through Western or even Indian journalists. They are politically driven by a fake liberalism and do not give you a firm reality of the state of politics and religion in India or the history of India for the last thousand years. There are profound intellectuals like Sai Deepak and Sita Ram Goel if you're interested in the true Indic perspective of our civilization and history.

Don't worry India under the Modi-ruled BJP is doing fine. It could do a lot better in terms of economics, infra and other policies. But they aren't as demonic sd they are made out to be. Fringe elements are always there in every society. Taking that as a metric to judge is kinda lame, unprofessional and not very intellectual. India is playing a very dangerous game. It thinks that it is capable of playing Switzerland. But that is not as feasible as it thinks. At least, not now. India lacks the institutional strength, the strength of investment, the control on corruption, and the low wealth inequality. These are important, if not mandatory prerequisites to have the luxury of global neutrality. Frankly, I no longer believe that Switzerland has that luxury anymore. However, I do believe a multipolar world is developing. But the sides will be the US, EU, and China, based on my current understanding. Even Russia, at the end of the day, is at China's mercy. I do not believe India can be its own side in this newly developing multipolar world in this decade.

The so-called world's largest democracy is looking less and less democratic. Could that be Modi using the term "multipolar world" as a euphemism for keeping more power for himself?

    Another observation.
The BJP spokesperson did not make any derogatory remarks about anyone. She only quoted what was written in the holy book. You can look it up yourself.
And that brings me to the freedom of press accusations. In India, you can pretty much print anything about the BJP/Hindus and get away with it but if you make fun of any minority, especially if you're not of that minority, you'll be ostracized/legally challenged and or thrown in jail or unalived "legally" or illegally. Btw here the minority we are talking about is over 200 million people. In my mind that makes them the second majority rather than a minority. But I guess people get away due to these very schematics.
Also, the CAA as well as the NRC (NRC is not even out yet btw and people are spiralling over it already, such hysteria these lobbies create ) has not excluded any Indian Muslims. The CAA bill clearly states that it only affects minorities in India's neighbourhood, that is, Muslim majority countries, and helps them get them on a fast track to Indian citizenship. That is due to them facing injustices and have a threat to their lives or livelihood . It has zero effect on Muslims living in India. Yes all illegals will be thrown out, as it effects the people these migrants end up living in. And states resources can't be wasted on illegals when the citizens themselves have not been able to get much in terms of support from the govt in the past decades. Which under BJP is doing at least somewhat better.
