  • Review of a really cheap gas soldering iron I found on eBay and just had to order. Spoiler: I used it for a bit and I survived.

    You can take off the tip and turn it into a mini butane torch. Nice clean precise flame in that mode.

    I just bought 2 of them! Even if only one works properly for a couple of months it'll have done its job for me. I'm so sick of the cord on my $20 electric model.

    I saw this on eBay. This one looks really nice, I was looking a review of the black "pencil torch" one with a large ceramic soldering attachment. But I think I'll go with this, it being adjustable really looks good.

    I've got a really old one of these, it's like 15 years old now. I use it in emergency situations when I can't use my normal soldering iron.

    Mine had flames flying out , have seemed to tame it and seems to work but yeah the dial is not the most accurate at first, jumps from low to superhigh over a small turn

      Ah, so not all of these are bad. I had some doubts when people started commenting on how the things don't really work for them. Mine still works fine and I use it regularly. What did you mod on yours?

    I got one, I fond of to open every new gadget.I opened this too something broken lead size steel piece I found ,but I though it was not of the solder,so, I thown.now my irorn not work properly.it was just like valve.anyway be carefull when using in day light or in sun light because the flame is not seen in sunlight and when you blow it with lighter you may be burn your finger or hand.this can happen when you blow the solder as gas welder keeping open the front tip.

    I just bought one of these a few days ago, wanted to check in here first to see if you survived lighting it up! :-)
    Just a follow up, first one i got sent to me didn't work, neither did the second replacement one!
    They lit up, but last about 2 or 3 seconds then go out?

    • @iskandarzulkarnain669
      @iskandarzulkarnain669 4 года назад

      Yeah mine too only last a couple minutes at first, but now I think mine will last for ever since i modified the gas nozzle with cheap gas lighter nozzle and the flame was better than before

    You were lucky, I bought one about 4 years ago and it shot out flames everywhere. I threw it outside into the road. Ha ha. (it's a very quiet road with no traffic)

    I was totally surprised that this actually worked! It probably would not be good as a main iron but if you needed an emergency one it would do the job

      Yes, it's not very good but it's totally usable. :)

  • @PanCakeMixer101

    I don't know if mine is faulty, the flame keeps going off after a few seconds.How much does it take to fill it up with butane?

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  6 лет назад

      I usually fill it for 10 seconds. Then wait a while, release the gas bottle and repeat twice. Works for me. They are pretty flimsy so it might very well be that yours is faulty I guess. :/

    thanks in advance

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  7 лет назад +2

      I only used it a few times until now. It's fine for that. I don't really think it will last very long if you use it regularly. Especially the valve for controlling the gas flow doesn't seem very sturdy.

    • @wrench.monkey
      @wrench.monkey 7 лет назад

      Mmm.. confused as to whtr to buy this or to spend the extra money and get the dremel versatip. I wouldn't use it very often though, it is just to solder in places where I can't get electricity.

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  7 лет назад

      That's exactly what I bought this for. I went for the cheap option because if it failed I could afford another one. The good branded ones seem a little too expensive for the few times I would use them. So I would go with the cheapo again any time.

    how long it last for the one time refill? 1mins or 5mins?
    i got mine lasted around 1 to 2mins... i guess mine is faulty.. any idea?

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  7 лет назад

      +Wan Seytans I just checked again and mine lasts longer than 5 minutes. It's a bit difficult to set the gas valve right, I think. Maybe you had too much gas coming out at once?

    • @waneynaa
      @waneynaa 7 лет назад

      +Jan Beta yup. Too much gas coming out esp when i tilt the thing and give slight wiggle.

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  7 лет назад

      +Wan Seytans Mh, it's pretty difficult to regulate with mine, too. But that it changes with tilting sounds as if something's faulty.

    Im very skeptical about the safety in chinese products. Im pretty sure china doesnt give a shit about safety. I dont have experience with chinese valves but i would check for leakage :) Be very critical about stuff you plug into the wall socket. Never trust an electric cable that is the thickness as a usb cable..

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  7 лет назад +2

      This particular one seems okay safety-wise. But I totally agree, if you buy cheap stuff always check twice what you got and if it's okay to plug it in/use it. Most of the times I look inside things and check for issues (there's no real warranty anyway) before I use them.

    • @asdf7108
      @asdf7108 7 лет назад +2

      I totally agree man. Its tempting to buy stuff from china though. you get way more value for the money :)

    a better holder for the brass tip cleaner stuff is a tuna can, its wide and shallow, if too light, can be screwed to some wood, mine has a wire stand for iron attached to it, im too cheap to buy a real stand

    • @JanBeta

      Oh, it's empty after a couple of minutes so you can't really do any serious work apart from some quick repairs.

    These irons are not suitable for circuit boards. Best for automotive and jewelry. Works as good as my weller iron which has plastic body. The price is very good and its very reliable, good quality with unbeatable price. I have used it several times and it's my main iron.

    • @JanBeta

    Even the good ones just seem... bizarre to me. You mean that you want a massive increase in CO2 as well as the solder pollutants in your work environment? I appreciate it's useful if you don't have access to copious electricity, or your only electricity is an inefficient firegas or petrol/diesel-powered generator, though - it'd be cheaper and more efficient to run in the latter case.

    This soldering iron is the worst purchase on an aliexspres. This device is dangerous because passing gas and not being able to completely shut off the gas flow can cause an explosion. Don't buy this soldering iron.

      Your advertising link doesn't work. And I don't really get why you consider your review more real than this one. If I wanted a flame thrower, I'd buy something that says "flame thrower" on the box not "soldering iron".
