You’re soldering incorrectly, you need to heat the thing(a) you’re soldering then introduce the solder onto the item(s). In this case, you should heat the wire, then push the solder into the wire. It’s about heat transfer, not “Loading up” the soldering iron. The heated wire will “suck” the solder into the connection.

That method does allow for better penetration! However, if I pull the wire as hard as I can it breaks BEFORE my solder connection breaks so this method has plenty of connectivity and tensile strength. It's a good thing that there is more than one way to do something correctly and that we don't limit our minds to a single technique. It would make us poor at improvisation and adaptation! Thank you for your comment!

You also used plumbing Flux for electrical soldering. That stuff is acidic and will speed up the corrosion of the wire. If you don't have rosin flux you'd be better off not using flux at all, just letting the rosin core of the soldering wire do the work of the flux.

@@FollowTheCompassNorth Please learn to solder before causing more harm through this video. This poor technique applied in critical applications (like electric brakes) could get someone killed. Put down your video if you give a fuck about humanity.

Great video. Still working on growing the extra set of hands. How has it held up? Debating on grabbing on.

Can I do this even if I don’t have four hands?

I'd use helping hands / alligator clips

We figured this would be an easy way to get out some of the "first video jitters".

10$ electric soldering irons work just fine for almost everyrhing
Where the usefulness of this comes in for me is mobile work, sometimes I'm in the bush or even just on a street working on something, you dont have a bench to work on the wire you're repairing. I have the capability to run 110 tools from my truck anyways, but then youve always got that extension cord in the way while youre laying under a dashboard, and it only works on small wires still. With this, you can take the tip off for a blowtorch and solder lugs on larger wires, like 6-00 gauge battery wires, plus you can take the tip out but leave the catalyst module to use it as a pinpoint heat gun, you can reach in super small spaces and heat shrink a wire, no need to shove your fat hand up in there with a bic and burn the shit out of yourself

It works, is simple, and repeatable for beginners.

That is not correct grammar in any sense, or sentence structure, what so ever. His joint held, it's conductive, and it's perfect for a diy'er or beginner. Besides he's demoing the tool, not the technique. Thanks for the vid. I was on the fence about getting this and this made me get it. Where'd you get the set of helping hands? I need that 😆.
