the sponge is to wipe the extra solder from the tip, add h2o. Do not speed up the cool down of ur tip, it will degrade the quality of the tip and ur solder joints will start to oxidize. Let it cool down naturally.
How do you change out the solder tip? I've been trying but I can't seem to remove the original tip that came on the iron itself, so any suggestions or advice would greatly be appreciated.
@@tonyfoley9988 it unscrews at the base of the metal, where the plastic starts, it's a grooved plastic nut. unscrew it all the way and everything will fall out, think Russian nesting dolls. obviously wait till after it's cooled down before attempting to change the tip... I should note that there are 2 different styles, the older one just the tips unscrewed from the metal base and it typically required pliers to get it loose after the expansion from the heat, which usually marred the tip, a towel helps but not 100% mark free. hope this helps
To use it as a torch, you take off the heat gun attachment & then it works as a regular torch without needing another lighter to light it. It will light itself perfectly fine. You turn it on the same way you do when using it as a soldering gun or a heat gun lol

@craftie_coastie thanks for the reply but I had already changed it out a few days ago. I didn't realize the tip comes off counter clockwise.

How long did you hold the butane to the valve while filling?
Not very long. 5-10 seconds is enough
I can’t get it to stay on. Can you show us dummies how to put the butane in it 😮
