I love it when the instructor works with a bigger sparring partner. That really shows that the technique works. Plus, he put uke down gently like a baby. Fantastic technique and control.
On the contrary I've literally never seen this technique applied in this way during competition or an MMA fight. Blocking their leg is supposed to come first (right after off-balancing them) and mechanically starts everything that makes the throw possible. If you lifted them off the ground already you may as well just do a regular hip throw. Also, this particular technique in no-gi is higher percentage with an overhook than an underhook. It's weird almost every instance of a UFC highlight reel will be with an overhook but no one teaches it with an overhook.
By far one of the most sincere and level headed instructor I have ever acknowledged. Hopefully one day I can come up to Canada and train at your gym. Thank for teaching
That’s O-Goshi with a lifted leg not harai goshi. The execution of harai doesn’t lift the hips then the leg it’s a sweeping throw with the leg not a lift. It was developed becaus o goshi was prevented due to lack of hip lift or opponent moving off. 👍🏻
Stop training MMA for a few years now. Been busy with life and children. Now 40 with a bit of chub. However watching these clips are starting to feed my hunger for BJJ. can see myself getting back to it again soon just for fitness and fun. Thank you 🤙🏻
Awesomeness !! I really like the way ya break it down...started following a long time ago and as soon as I did my ankle chasing game got way better !! Appreciate it dude !!
Judoka here, that's actually a really good harai goshi! So many people sweep the legs with their harai, turning it into an ashi waza. Nice to see a legit hip sweep.
Nice coaching brother Harai goshi - uchi mata - osoto gari are my 3 favourite judo techniques. I actually used them for years in wrestling without ever knowing it came from judo.
The one thing I learned after doing these is also you can shorted the stance, get under and stiffen the legs before you bend. Takes the weight iff the opponent completely and you dont have to rely on back, grip or folding over as much.
There are some good elements here. Lots of people pointing out this isn't really Harai. Especially since the leg isn't reaping. The really important element missing is the kuzushi. The arms need to be bringing him slightly forward right. Without it, the throw becomes very difficult with a resistant person.
I saw someone do this super fast before and as a beginner in mma, I thought it almost looked like a uchi mata on the outside of the legs, but you definitely proved me wrong with this stellar tutorial, thanks man :)
I love how whenever people demonstrate throws they show it on an opponent who is in good balance and never discuss the process of off balancing in order to open the window of opportunity for the throw. The setup is arguably more important than the technique itself. You have to win the hand fight to get a dominant angle or use your superior grips to off balance. No one teaches these concepts as well as Danaher
I liked this alot, got some follow up q's tho: 1) does that triangle foot placement apply to other throws or sweeps? 2) when you are setting up that triangle footing, can't the open also triangulate his feet towards you as well, won't that make it like a 50/50 battle for leverage?
DUDE YES! For yeeaarrs I've been saying I've wanted to experience No-Gi Judo! Judokas are know as the Throw Kings so if that's true, there should be plenty to learn that isn't exclusive to Gi only.
I liked the video only thing is you make the triangle with your front leg in between his feet, its called a "back step". If you step in too deep and put your front leg in between his feet he can just collapse on you and take your back.
I love it when the instructor works with a bigger sparring partner. That really shows that the technique works. Plus, he put uke down gently like a baby. Fantastic technique and control.
Very gay sport this is
@@maxjoshua8515 gay sport that can kill
It’s actually easier to throw bigger people cause you have more space to get in and the technique doesn’t have to be as crisp.

The dude in the background absolutely makes this, already excellent video, even more perfect.

Exactly. He is throwing with the hips. It's still a good technique though, but not a Harai Goshi
thanks I wanted to understand the difference and was pondering about this
I came here to share this very sentiment. Harai is a sweep of the leg after opponent steps out of ogoshi.
Its look like uki-goshi
@@toni9919 not at all uki goshi has both feet planted throughout and not nearly as much hip contact.
I love watching the background story in your videos. That guy is experiencing the MDMA beard!

Yes! Im still pretty new to both judo and bjj, but i love it! Harry groceries is the first throw we learned at our academy!

Great content man.
Beautiful explanation thank you
There are a lot of great judo throws and sweeps for no gi grappling, just like Ogoshi and Harai goshi are great for no gi
It's called wrestling. It's been around way before judo.
This guy is a slick coach. If I lived by that gym. I would love to go there
So cool. I love throws! Getting better, slowly.
Very simple and efficent explanation!
I love how the instructor looked at him as he walked away like "are you fucking kidding me" lmaoooooooooo such good vibes there I love it and jealous
I gave a like for the bloke in the background 👍

Entertaining and informative 👏
Bro I can see the dust coming out bros beard he rubbing it so hard 😭😭🤣🤣😭 the background inside joke makes this whole YT channel better 🤣🤣🤣
Be sure to show kuzushi. Without it, you're setting yourself up for ura nage.
u stole my words from typing lol. fellow judoka osss
Came here for this comment 😊
@AL S Point taken, but I think BJJ often does not learn that lesson because suplexes are banned in most bjj gyms and tournaments.
Died when I noticed the molly kick in 🤣🤣🤣

Man you made that technique look easy 🔥🔥🔥
Its much easier to get it in nogi, judo & jiujitsu helped me acheive alot in hs wrestling
What do the man in the back 🤣
Defending the throw looks as simple as leaning forward right before the throw, how would you avoid them failling on you into back control?
The guy having fun on MDMA in the background is a nice touch
My man in the back got the mdma beard 😂
I think bro is really in love with his beard
The bearded guy is on molly 😂
O-Goshi and Harai Goshi are similar but they're not the same. Harai Goshi sweeps the right leg to the left. This was O-Goshi
Came here to check if there would be any comments about the guy in the back. And RUclips did not dissapoint!
About the counter, can you hook the legs and take the back? Also, how about those when you attack?
Hip pop, don't forget the hip pop, like a mini squat.
❤
Harai Goshi is the shit!. Used it in MMA before. Love those shorts no homo lol
“Coach have you hit puberty?”
Very dope. Quick question though, can't he just go for a knee tap in the middle of the throw?
Step, lift, kick
thanks . for review itself seems like maybe not easy against taller opponents ?
Excuse me, professor, I remind you that if you mount your opponent on your hip, the essence of harai goshi is lost. Look Nage No Kata
bro in background way into his beard.
That guy pulling his burd in the back is my spirit aminal
As a judoka, The hip here seems more important than the leg, i would call this a variation of o-goshi rather than arai-goshi
I liked the video only thing is you make the triangle with your front leg in between his feet, its called a "back step". If you step in too deep and put your front leg in between his feet he can just collapse on you and take your back.
The stork sound haha
Is it better to widen your legs before the throw?
Man looks like he came to rolling practice after edc
Eu só tenho uma dúvida, quem treina de casaco?
