Running an R32 GTR transfer box off the back of a Holinger RD6, ‪@wintersperformanceproducts‬ Quick Change rear differential, ‪@haltech‬ R5 NEXUS ECU/PDM, ‪@GarrettTurbos‬ 94mm OR 106mm turbo, Clearview oil filtration system along with Ti Automotive a dual brushless pump setup among a long list of other parts, we caught up with Rob Dahm at ‪@semashow‬ to discuss his ever-evolving and now essentially complete FD RX7 quad rotor build.
The Haltech R5 doesn't just handle engine management; the built-in PDM also controls many of the electrical components leaving the car without fuses or relays. A standalone ‪@ECUMasterUSA‬ PMU splits this duty in 2 adding redundancy plus more inputs and outputs. A ‪@FuelTechUSA‬ FTSpark Capacitive Discharge Ignition (CDI) also helps in the ignition department. Interestingly this build draws up to 80amps, and as you can see (and hear) Rob has made sure that isn't an issue with this setup.
Traction control is also handled by the Haltech R5 via a Nissan ATTESA-based control system and some 'fettling' by Rob which allows him to demand a dynamic or set torque ratio between the front and rear of the car allowing for versatility when launching and cornering across many surface conditions. We also touch on some Nikasil-style coating that is used to make sure aluminium and steel alloys play together nicely. Interestingly the engine is clearanced specifically for ‪@valvoline‬ 20-50 oil which shows the level of detail this build has reached.
The long list of topics continues with Precision Engineering eccentric shafts, rotary irons, apex seals, 16 point total TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system) and the gremlins auxiliary systems can cause a rotary engine.
Last time we spoke to Rob he mentioned his interest in more A-B testing, and he has followed through on this and discussed some poor injector placement and cooling issues that upon investigation and data collection he has resolved often by taking it upon himself to learn the skills to do the job himself. Machine work, wiring and tuning are just a few skills he has picked up as a direct result of this build.

Rob's openness about the rotary engine and it's intricacies is exactly what the community needed to help it grow. A lot of the information he provides is hush hush and he's changed that for the better. It seems HP Academy helping him grow has had an even deeper impact then you might have thought. Cheers.

Anyone else LOL at the guy at approx. 27:45? He starts picking his nose. Realizes they're filming and slowly backs out of frame. Effing legend! Exit stage left. Poor bastard has been immortalized. May the clipping begin.

It's off to a great start and there are a ton of really engaging topics so I wouldn't bet against you myself 😎 View numbers aren't super important vs the type of person that is watching, but it's always nice to know a lot of interesting content has reached a lot of people who can learn from it, use it, or just enjoy it. Win, win, win - Taz.

This thing has to prove itself. Once I see gridlife lap times, fl2k 1/4 mile times, 1/2 mile top speeds then I'll buy the hype.
On paper it looks sick, but It's about time we see the reality.

@ 23:30 some guy takes a pic of the VIN on Robs car. Anyone have a clue as to why? Just seems a bit odd unless you are a cop or repo man.

LOVE THIS CHANNEL AND ROBS BUILD..I SUB'D TO HIM BEFORE HE BUILT THE 4 ROTOR SO IM NOT BEING A HATER BUT YOU ASK ROB ABOUT THE RELIABILITY OF THIS 4 ROTOR AND IM CURIOUS HOW MANY MILES THE CAR EVEN HAS ON IT? ID DOUBT IF IT HAS 1000 MILES OF ROAD USE BUT HOURS OF OPERATION IM CURIOUS ABOUT..ROB IF YOUR OUT THERE ?? THAT BALL BEARING E SHAFT IS A SUPER IMPRESSIVE PIECE !!! LOVE HOW ROBS TIRELESSLY ATTEMPTING TO FIND WAYS TO MAKE IT RELIABLE.

I don't think Rob would say it is much either, he was just stating it'd been more than he was promised to expect. He probably won't see all the comments on here but he might see the same question regarding miles on his own channel or an IG post, he seems pretty active on there - Taz.
