      These are the 4000 series cars, which made that buzzing noise. It is part of the DC Chopper Control propulsion systems they used till they were retired in 2017. This was taken in early 2014, when 4000 series railcars were a common sighting on the Red line.

    These sound similar to our older Breda cars 501-530 here in LA, 531-603 are the ones that sound like the 1000 series.

      @SuperWorldRailFanProductions  2 года назад +2

      Well they both used Westinghouse DC motors, and it's because the later batch of cars in LA used the same motors as the 1000 series.

    Unlike the 2K/3K, the 4000 series were never rehabilitated due to a lack of funds and so they have become unreliable.

      @@AWJ2013-c4c Actually, all the 3000 series had the higher pitched chimes before they were rebuilt. The 2000 series were rebuilt in the early 2000s, and during that time, they had the old chimes. These new chimes came out in 2006.

    Do you know why all the 1000 series trains are always in the middle because of the 2009 collision

    • @SuperWorldRailFanProductions
      @SuperWorldRailFanProductions  2 года назад +3

      It was because they were amongst the lightest rolling stock in the Metro fleet, hence making them very vulnerable to telescoping in accidents (i.e. riding on top of another railcar).

    • @SuperWorldRailFanProductions
      @SuperWorldRailFanProductions  Год назад +4

      The 2000 and 3000 series were delivered in the 1980s and had reached their midlife overhaul date in the 2000s. The 4000s were delivered in the 1990s and were too young for an overhaul during the time of the 2/3k rebuilds. Additionally, funding shortages caused Metro to skip the rebuild program of the 4000s, and plus, they were relatively a very small part of Metro's fleet.

      @SuperWorldRailFanProductions  12 дней назад

      @@IloveLexus1 The 4000 series were very problematic as well as a relatively small fleet, so it didn't make sense for Metro to overhaul them. Also, it was funding that prevented Metro from extending their service life.
