Blazar Remus 1.5X Silver Anamorphics - What You've Been Waiting For?

- This video covers a review of the Blazer Remus 1.5x anamorphic lens set. They are affordable yet high-quality anamorphic lenses that meet my long-awaited criteria: lightweight, compact, fast aperture (at least T2), sharp (at least T2.8), and neutral flare. Key features include the 77mm front thread, 80mm outer diameter, and 150-degree rotation throw. The set costs $2,799 for three lenses or $999 for a single lens. Tests are conducted on breathing, distortion, sharpness, color, and character (bokeh, falloff, flares). While praising the overall quality, there is some chromatic aberration/purple fringing wide open. I highly recommend these lenses for their excellent value, image quality, and compact form factor compared to much more expensive alternatives.

Great video man! Just found you and I love the neutral, unbiased approach.
One really interesting thing that I don’t really hear anybody talking about with these lenses and how we use them on my crew is for visualization.
We shoot on the Atlas Mercuries a lot. And although I’ll continue to rent the mercuries for a lot of jobs. Having a cheap 1.5X set that we can have when scouting/pre vis is SOOOOO helpful. And will more than pay for themselves by not having to pay an extra 2-3 days rental rate on the mercuries in order to have them for scouting days. Literally, this full set pays for itself by saving just 4 rental days on our mercury set. No brainer.
That’s a great point! And we all know how much production loves to save money haha! Thanks for sharing!
@@atdavidlee The production loves Saving money more than they love making the commercial in the first place... makes it hard to do our job sometimes haha
I’m intrigued! Great review brother.
Thanks man! Definitely worth a rental for sure

I’m doing a pair of spec commercials soon. Would love your opinion!
- atlas Orion or mercury
- or maybe the blazars.
I don’t have anything in my portfolio shot on anamorphic and think the project calls for it!
Thank you for the silver flare examples in particular. I've had the A set from preorder times in blue, liked them so much I got a 65mm amber too, and have just ordered the B set + 33mm in silver. I was really on the fence between amber and silver, and your examples helped a lot.
Some clients don't want blue, some don't want amber, so hopefully this will cover all bases...
I use the Remus a lot on a 3:2 sensor and or me this accentuates their character, along with change in field of view. Highly recommended 👍
Great point! I feel going neutral is best as you’re not stuck with a single color source. Thanks for sharing!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this vid. I've been trying to find a more in-depth dive with the neutral silver flare version specifically. Appreciate it!
I’m glad the video helped 🙏
Have these lenses and very happy with them, i was 1 of the first to pre-order. Thanks for the review.
Thank you for leaving a genuine comment!
I'm definitely keeping my eye on the 35mm and the 85mm Remus Lenses for my FX30! Very excited about this set!
Same!
Great video. My 45 comes in tm. Excited to test it out!
Heck yeah!
Hello, great review, thank you! On 8:39 beautiful light, tell me please what colour temperature was on camera and what lights you used and color or gels?Amazing!
I believe the camera was around 3800K and I had a few lights including a Nanlite II 30X, Intellytech 3FC, Aputure Infinibars and Nanlite 6Cs
Great video! I want these very bad!
Interesting you say pincushion. I have not noticed pincushion on any of the Remus anamorphic. Definitely plenty of barrel distortion though.
Amazing stuff. Love the look, mate! Were you pulling focus yourself?
For the real time footage I had a focus puller on most of the days. Other days I pulled focus myself
Nice video and finally someone reviewing the silver flares. I tested the 45mm and the 65mm at a rental and the 65mm had much more chromatic aberration. So I ordered the 45mm with silver flare. How long did you wait for your order? :)
Yeah the CA is pretty noticeable. I was at the Blazar booth at Cinegear this year so putting my order in directly with them I got them the last week of June
Great review! What flare color were these?
Neutral
@@atdavidlee Thanks, I watched it again and you did mention that!
What is the adaper used on your FX6 to take the PL mounts to E? Thanks
I have one from SLR Magic but you can use any
Will the flare be red if point a red light on it? Since the flare color is neutral/silver.
Correct 👍
Love getting the in use examples 🫡🔥🔥🔥
I always want those when I watch video reviews haha
