15:40 Funnyplaying does not advertise 10 levels of brightness. The resellers might but not Funnyplaying:

You sure that thin, transparent tape will not melt? How hot does a Game Boy color get from inside? I guess not really hot... I am wondering if I could just use duct tape instead of Kapton...

The the tape is used to eliminate any metal to metal contact. It doesn’t get even remotely hot to affect anything like that. It won’t melt.

You really should use the sticky 3M foam pad. It will seal in the screen from getting dust between it and the lens.

Great tutorial. I used your video, Chinese Guy, and Retro Repairs for guidance on mine today. Putting the touch sensor outside of the IR piece was genious and it works really well with mine.
It’s an overall great modification for the Game Boy Color!

How did you get the IR sensor cover to fit back in? Because when I try to put it back, it is a tight fit and won’t go all the way back down. Did you have to trim the cover or something? Great tutorial by the way.

The IR sensor is going to be a really tight fit. What I did is lay the front shell on its face and try to place the sensor inside like that.

I saw on other videos about installing the funnyplaying ips that by placing the brightness control at this very spot you're basically sacrificing the IR functionality of the gameboy color. Is that true ? You didn't point that out. I mean it still would be neat to use it for the mystery gift in pokemon g/s/c.

I’m not entirely sure because you have a metallic layer in front of that sensor now. I’m inclined to say that it would be blocked, but the IR feature was really only used in Pokémon. It was used in other games, but Pokémon was the most prominent.

      Yes

This is what I was thinking. It depends on how hot the Game Boy Color gets inside I guess, and what kind of voltages are involved. I would guess any tape would be fine tbh, but Im not sure because many people seem to use Kapton - but I'm thinking it's overkill...
