How ironic - all NEW BUILDS which have parking MUST have an EV charging point added - that includes a small development where perhaps a single home is demolished/redeveloped into a larger or dual property. I have to say I can't blame any close neighbour being very cautious over this matter - ditto small EVs like scooters/cycles etc. EVs - what a great idea!
Lee, I unfortunately agree with your neighbour…I would hate my neighbour to charge their car next to my property. Fire hazards are real…….I do not park next to EV’s in car parks where I can avoid it. Totally ridiculous situation here with ALL the problems owning EV’s & yet we are still forcing the public to buy them. There are many many problems & charging is only one, I could name many, with depreciation being for me the main one. That alone would stop me from even considering it.
Have you seen the US video where a woman leaves the handbrake off her EV and it rolls into the river. Completely submerged it bursts into flames although the ignition was off. I have seen never anything burn under water, but this apparently did.
My house insurance just auto renewed similar price to last year. So I did not shop around but wonder if insurance companies are asking the charging question.
Have you tried going in your neighbours house to check they haven't got a hundred lit candles dotted around, or an old tumble dryer, or a pair of long johns hanging in front of a 3 bar fire? If we are worrying about cars then it's only right to expand it to everything. We'll be back living in caves before long after the civil war! 😀
If some cars are a fire risk, won't that affect you being allowed to use public chargers as well? Why would the owners of the land/infrastructure want a fire risk plugged in?
A car recall in itself won’t invalidate your insurance, but ignoring a safety-related recall notice could. That means that in the unfortunate event that your car is involved in an accident, an insurer may not pay out if it’s found that your car has been recalled on safety grounds and you’ve done nothing about it. You could even be considered to be “in charge of a defective vehicle”, as putting off getting remedial work done following a safety recall could also put yourself and other drivers in danger. So, it’s best to act swiftly if you hear from your manufacturer. While they’re obliged to inform you about a recall, they can’t force you to act on the notice, so you’ll need to take responsibility for this yourself.@@markarmstrong9550
Indeed, this is a very good subject for Daniel ( Blackbelt Barrister) to give us his take on the subject 👍 As so many of us know, this EV situation is hopeless and don’t get me started about manufacturers mileage claims 🙄
I have been asking this very question for a long time now. I fear an electric car parking near my house or next to me when out and about. It is a total mad strategy to go all electric ……I look at all the cars currently on the roads and just despair at the view that governments seem to think they can all be replaced. Pie in the sky…. But they keep banging on and taxing us accordingly.
I really don't understand how this is such a big issue in the UK. Here in Norway this is not remotely a topic of discussion and there are EVs everywhere.
I find it funny that a bloke who voluntarily bought an electric car, a horrendously expensive one at that, running a campaign against the government about electric cars.
Lee.... do you remember those dangly chains that used to short out static electricty on the back of old cars? Maybe that might earth your Taycan so it is less likely to catch fire?
Spikes can grow internally in the battery especially when at full capacity also rapid charging and puncture the dielectric membrane and cause a short, this causes heat, more heat makes more shorts so you get thermal runaway then it bursts into flames. This can happen with any lithium ion battery. Nice😎 Gaz Yorkshire
Those strips didn't do anything, it was all the polyester clothing in the 70's and 80's that caused static shocks. It's not static electricity that causes EV fires.
@@strongandco Yes, as I said it's mainly the battery that can go into runaway. The strips were just a sales gimmick, some say they even wore the road surface as they had tungsten carbide ends.

Sale of goods act says a product should be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose , if its a fire risk to your life its clearly in breach of this. What's the resale value now as who would buy one now insurance has trebled and fire risk ! Are all Taycan's parked outside dealers now lol ?
A mate of mine came home from work in his works van a 2.2 ltr diesel . After twenty mins he heard a neighbour shouting and when he looked outside his van was gutted by fire. EV are actually less likely to set on fire than an ice vehicle unless the battery is damaged.
You really should have said. “ I could well end up getting sued for charging my car”. Bit naughty and it only pees folk off. Now just get it sorted and sit down and relax with a nice record on. Might I suggest The Electric Light Orchestra? 😁 Or Eddie Grant’s Electric Avenue. Of course Electric Dreams by Human League is always an option. 😉
If only they could harness the heat from the thermal run away when the battery explodes, that could heat an entire a street. Maybe that’s why they’re pushing EV’s whilst simultaneously cutting fuel allowances to OAPS…
In your tripled insurance premiums, is there provision for liability for damages caused by explosions or fires during the charging or just random battery issues?
You are really not selling these EVs to me at all. I think it will be several years before I even consider one they are so poor. You are always jolly and so patient with your EV. I would go through the roof. Triple insurance because your car is a fire hazard too ! There were 239 fires linked to electric vehicles (EVs) from July 2022 to June 2023. This was an 83% increase from the previous year.
4 cars a day are catching fire in China now. They're 3% more fire risk than ICEs, and take 2 days to put out and must be stored metres away from each other. Where's the land coming from. Most scrap yards have ICEs stacked 3-4 high.
Nothing will ever convince me that an EV is worthwhile. Dad has had 3 Nissan Leaf EVs over the last few years. He has been happy with them as he doesn't drive far. The garage has managed to offer a 'fantastic deal' every couple of years and he has always fallen for it. Poor man cannot now drive for medical reasons so the car will likely have to go. It's on finance, rolled over from the previous agreement and he still owes £24k on it. Immaculate condition, just over 2 years old and with only 5k miles on the clock. We can't get an offer for more than around £12k to get rid of it even from the dealer (they are struggling to sell new cars so don't really want to take back a second hand one) so looks like dad will still be paying over £10k to the finance company. Completely false economy to have believed an EV to be better for him - and he now owes a lot more to get rid of the car than he saved over those few years in fuel costs. A resale value for an equivalent ICE vehicle with £5k miles would recover far more. It's just wrong!
Until that insane British government of enviromental fools gives you no choice. They will tax you insanely for a regular car, gas stations will quit or switch to electricity so fuel will become scarc(er) and even more expensive, insurance will be higher as will maintenance so driving and owning a regular car will become so expensive you will be forced to switch.
It's a bit like have either a mobile, scooter, bike, drill, any rechargeable electrical appliance in your house on charge, and your flat or house burns down what's around it, we're does it all end, no one can get insurance?
In all honesty, from what I have learned about EV's, I wouldn't be very happy about one even parked near my house, never mind being charged there. I think it displays either complete ignorance of the risks, or a complete disregard for your neighbours. The things are a major fire just waiting to happen.
EV's should be a personal choice not something forced upon us by the government. Must admit, as a Porsche owner I fancy the Taycan Tourismo, but sense has prevailed to stay with petrol.
The car can't be that dangerous surely otherwise you'd technically be risking your life every time you turn the key and drive it. Porsche should be compensating you for the escalation of the insurance costs.
There is more than enough power for everyone's EV. We already produce more than we need and ev pickup will be a gradual rise so the grid has plenty of time to upgrade in the meantime 😊
@ But we still have that invention glass, easy to smash with a stone or mechanical punch. Most men including myself will get out and hand over if threatened.

It was a new Taycan that set on fire on that cargo ship in the gulf that destroyed 1000 plus new luxury Top cars, Bentleys Rolls,Royces and Lamborghinis, etc.. Unfortunately one crew member died on board also. The shipping company refused to ever ship electric cars again. Just think of all those new cars and Rubber tyres burning away on a ship all because of one Porsche car that set alight. Even the ship was scrap afterwards

That 155 miles you put on your cars range which cost you £22.68 would cost me around £16.00 in petrol in my Civic hybrid, self-charging as well Lee. As someone who has no drive to charge on can you blame me and countless others for being very reluctant to go full EV?

So stage one of things starting to go pear shaped. I wonder if electric cars will wind up being banned on eurotunnel. After all if one went up in the tunnel what would they do?
Same procedure as for an ICE fire. That GB News article, I'm assuming it's that one is out of date. DFDS channel ferries have just started offering EV charging on board. That's hardly in alignment with information quoted about DFDS from 2020 which that article referenced.
I was thinking of buying a battery car but now I think I will stay with my 3.5ltr diesel it's going to be cheaper than paying extra for car and house insurance and sitting around in the cold waiting for it to charge.
If you can change at home . £4.50 for a full tank whilst you sleep. And precondition your car and your battery ready for your journey in the morning 😊. @@crazyedits50 Thats the kicker isn't it. 'if you can charge at home'. Those houses that don't have drives will lose value. If you have to run an EV who would want to buy a home without a drive?
@@crazyedits50 This is an unsustainable position though. The cost of an EV should be equivalent to its ICE counterpart and electricity should be charged (and taxed) at the point of delivery to the vehicle. If it is not, then we will all get hit with much worse options, the worst of which is pay per mile road charging and even more cameras. It's deeply unfair that people with the ability to home charge can get stupid cheap rates, and those who can't have to suffer public charging that can be more expensive than fuel. The reason for switching to an EV should simply be that it's better for the environment. Subsidising them to make them seem more attractive just puts money in the car makers pockets and lets them continue with their broken model of over expensive EV's that people don't really want.

Big question is which neighbors?
The ones at your ex wife's place ,the girlfriends house or your place !!!
Must be great ro have so many options !
Have you seen the US video where a woman leaves the handbrake off her EV and it rolls into the river. Completely submerged it bursts into flames although the ignition was off. I have seen never anything burn under water, but this apparently did.
A school experiment showed us that magnesium burns under water too.
can the car tall you the amount of hours you have wasted charging the thing over the time you have had it?
That would be so depressing..
or the amount of hours sat on your phone browsing whist sat in your house or on your phone browsing whilst sat in your car whist charging.
I’m afraid I agree with the neighbour.
My house insurance just auto renewed similar price to last year. So I did not shop around but wonder if insurance companies are asking the charging question.
My ex wife has a Taycan…..bring it on 🥳🥳🥳
Have you tried going in your neighbours house to check they haven't got a hundred lit candles dotted around, or an old tumble dryer, or a pair of long johns hanging in front of a 3 bar fire? If we are worrying about cars then it's only right to expand it to everything. We'll be back living in caves before long after the civil war! 😀
Couldn't Sharon just get a man to flip the breaker or disconnect the charging point, it'd be cheaper than taking it away?
If some cars are a fire risk, won't that affect you being allowed to use public chargers as well? Why would the owners of the land/infrastructure want a fire risk plugged in?
Ice cars are a fire risk and filling up at a fuel station can be a risky situation. 😊
@@crazyedits50any ICE cars that have a recall on them regarding fire risks that lead to them being harder to insure?
Indeed, this is a very good subject for Daniel ( Blackbelt Barrister) to give us his take on the subject 👍
As so many of us know, this EV situation is hopeless and don’t get me started about manufacturers mileage claims 🙄
30 minutes to 80% fill up an electric car that you could have done in 2 or 3 minutes in an ICE car. That is progress for you.
With all that snow you need a practical car like a Lada Riva.
THEY CAN'T NATIONALIZE THE GAS STATIONS BUT, THEY CAN NATIONALIZE THE POWER GRID
I definitely do not want my neighbour to charge an EV next to my car and house ! Fortunately he has a nice BMW ICE car !

They will stop you charging at charging points by just cutting the power, then you cannot go anywhere!
They will up the wet fuel tax to prohibitive levels then you cannot afford to go anywhere.

@@brianellis4964 they can do the same with fuel pumps 😎
Lee.... do you remember those dangly chains that used to short out static electricty on the back of old cars? Maybe that might earth your Taycan so it is less likely to catch fire?
Spikes can grow internally in the battery especially when at full capacity also rapid charging and puncture the dielectric membrane and cause a short, this causes heat, more heat makes more shorts so you get thermal runaway then it bursts into flames.
This can happen with any lithium ion battery.

Those strips didn't do anything, it was all the polyester clothing in the 70's and 80's that caused static shocks. It's not static electricity that causes EV fires.

In your tripled insurance premiums, is there provision for liability for damages caused by explosions or fires during the charging or just random battery issues?
In the UK, if you clean snow off the path and someone falls on anything left, they will sue you!
No they don't! It has never happened anywhere. There is no legal presidence in any UK court.
They have to prove negligence.
Never in a million years will I commit my sanity to this EV lunacy. JimN
It's a bit like have either a mobile, scooter, bike, drill, any rechargeable electrical appliance in your house on charge, and your flat or house burns down what's around it, we're does it all end, no one can get insurance?
did you tell your new insurance that you had been turned down for insurance LOL
If everyone gets a electric cars they won’t need to restrict your movement nobody will be able get enough electric out of the grid to charge 🤦♂️👍✌️
There is more than enough power for everyone's EV. We already produce more than we need and ev pickup will be a gradual rise so the grid has plenty of time to upgrade in the meantime 😊
Tell Sharon just disconnect it from the mains, obviously get an electrician in if you like her !

If a neighbour of yours has a gas leak which results in and explosion which damages your house, are they the liable to pay the cost of repairs to your house and anyone else affected?
Yes Lee they dont need to be charging to set on fire. @@PhilBradley-xb2tj Yes Phil that IS the problem so many of us don't have the luxury of being able to charge at home, the thing that annoys me the most is that EVs will create a two-tier society where those with no driveway will have to pay a lot more for mobility, fossil fuels whatever the rights or wrongs cost the same for all for me with my self charging hybrid it would cost me more per mile to buy an EV and use public chargers so until home and away charging are more equal I won't be going full EV though I can appreciate why you have If it only costs you a few quid to charge.
