These work slicker 'n a greased weenie. The only noise I hear now is the intake valve slamming shut. Can't stop that, especially with a hi-flow air filter.
To stop the end play noise, I was thinking about some stainless steel wavy washers to ack as springs on each end of the rockers. I'm thinking it would work with the right strength wavy washers and tolerances.
Yes, we make year specific kits for the Sporster. Harley shared parts from one model to the next, kept passing this flaw down. This gap was hidden and very few people knew about it, and their fix was to pin the shaft. Our product is unique as it fills the space and can be removed if necessary. You can order here. www.dkcustomproducts.com/86-06-sportster-rocker-lockers-reduce-top-end-ticking-noise-dk-rl-spt-8606.htm
Tried to order from DK but NZ shipping cost is outrageous. I can send a small padded envelope to the US for $7(NZ). DK want about $80(NZ) to ship the rocket lockers. After local taxes that's more than twice the cost of the lockers themselves.
Mike you can punch them out with a punch from the bottom, and sometimes reuse them. Usually there is no need to remove them unless the rocker arm assembly needs rebuilt, but that is rare. If you are doing head work you pull off the rocker arm assembly and just leave them in.
Cost, the shoulder bolts have to be custom machined with the same results as the inserts. We think that this was the original plan of HD to use a shoulder bolt and the bean counters vetoed that. Thus the problem.
Mine wouldn't go in the holes (yes I made sure the rocker pins where straight, and installed with the correct side [tapered] end down). They just bent up to hell and back. It was an idea anyway. The other end of this fix; If you want to remove the rocker arms, you need to figure out how to get these out again. My bottom line? Not worth the headache. Just make sure you have at least the thickness of a zip tie clearance between your spring caps, and the walls of the rocker boxes. If it's still ticking a little, let her tick. It's a Harley... A mechanical living thing. Let it live.
@@harleycruiser4331 couple months ago.. USA made. Good instructions. They just didn't work out for me. I have an 02 wide glide.. My Rocker arm support plate may have better tolerances then the later year models. I was going to try again, but having thought about it, I reconsidered. If you have to remove the rocker arms for any reason, you will have to deal with getting these back out.
@@hawkdsl they are pretty easy to remove, just turn the rocker arm upside down and tap them out with a punch or use the installation tool. If you would like to try again I will send you a couple of sets just email me with name, address to harley_cruiser@yahoo.com
Hi, I just ordered some of these today from ebay and just realized they are coming from China, do I need to be concerned about using them? I live in New Zealand and always try to buy USA made parts for my Harley and American car. Many thanks and good video@@harleycruiser4331
Steve, they lock the shaft so that it does not rotate, it does not cause any extra wear. We feel that originally HD was going to use a shoulder bolt on the plate, the shoulder bolt is larger, this would have locked the shaft, then later they decided to save some money and used a regular bolt creating the gap and letting the shaft rotate. The Rocker Lockers take up this space and lock the shaft like it should have been in the first place.
Any V-twin shop with a Drag Specialties or Hard Drive account in US, Motorcycle Storehouse or Zodiac in EU or Rollies in AUS is where I have them distributed currently.
CyclesInc we found that people knew they needed the gaskets but forgot about these o-rings and felt on older bikes with old o-rings they should be replaced.
Soooo ... Can the correct "Bolts" with the dimensions to actually fit the plate be purchased and then hold the rocker shaft. With engineering instead of rigging ??
Why do you need to remove the rocker arm assembly (plate) from the Motor? Seems to me like you should just be able to just beat each one of these into place and get one side done at a time without having to remove the entire assembly from the Motor.
Kenneth, you don't have to remove the plate from the motor, however you need the plate loose so that the lifters are not putting pressure on the rocker arm shaft. If there is pressure on the shaft it will not turn so that the dimple in the shaft aligns with the bolt hole. If you don't align the hole the Rocker Lockers will not pull in they will mushroom. Once the plate is loose it is very easy to pull the plate so that is why we recommend pulling the plate to be able to see that the shaft is aligned. Also you only install them on the one side of the plate, two on each plate on the carburetor side.
Harley Cruiser, thank you for the detailed explanation I will be installing these during my winter project. I will also be checking the side to side clearance on the same rocker arms. If you search "95th Anniversary Road Glide" you will see my old Evo with 134k on her. I have overhauled the rocker arms with new bushings and reamed them to fit however I never addressed this problem as I didnt know of anybody that had addressed this. That being said thank you so much for your efforts and for your reply.
Yet ANOTHER example of a known factory flaw that the Motor Company wouldn't ever confess to being "factory defective". If they were worth a damn (HD) they'd stand behind their product and have any and all bikes on the road this upgraded to accommodate something of this nature. Hence why I ride a BMW! BMW stands behind their product 100% and even if you're not the original owner they'll fix your bike FOR FREE! And they actually recall stuff even if its 10 years old!
Harley doesnt care and hasnt care since they became a publically traded company. They answer to shareholders not people who actually ride their motorcycles. Pump out a cheaply made product, get people on a payment plan, make money on interest from financing, sell huge overpriced accessories, and charge an arm and a leg for service - thats how they make money - not by selling the motorcycle. And they certainly dont care if they last (see twin cam tensioners LOL, and a motor design from 1920) I love my evo big twin - awesome motor - but no way im shelling out $30k for a new bike that you cant work on
Great comparison, just ordered mine.

Hi, what are the o’rings for ?
They go under the vvt rocker arm plate on the twin cam.
What are the o-rings for?
CyclesInc they go under the rocker arm plate for the breather.
I thought that's what they looked like. But it didn't make any sense why you would supply them and yet no other gaskets or O-rings.
