HOW TO MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

How are all you sensational subs on this very hot Friday, well it's very hot where I am in Western Australia right now🥵. Today I meltdown 700 or 800 pet food trays sent to me by an Aussie sub and I try out my new biggest mold to make a great bar to chuck on the shelves. So sit back check it out and I hope to see you all next Friday👋🏻😀
Ok
Seeing your content is very satisfactory 😀
Really needed this ASMR. Thank you . 😇 💚💚😇
I start collecting cat food trays if you like.
All fine in Brazil.
I would like to suggest that when you retire that beat up #8 crucible, make one final melt with it, but let it cool all the way, then chip it away from the metal. It would look pretty good with the texture inside.
I second this motion
@@Raiden_369 I third this motion
I'll 24th this motion! (I'm including the number of likes at the time of my comment in this equation)
I think that would look really cool, kind of like the equivalent of like, casting an anthill. but with, yknow. a crucible.
I 25th this motion. It would also kinda serve as a monument to the blessed crucible. 😂
That collection is no longer a stack, its a horde and it is glorious!

I'm lowkey jealous of how you have an ice cream man who sells real ice cream, and not just branded merchandise crappy dyed shapes on sticks that taste like vanilla and paint. GReat video!
I tell you what, some people are so thoughtful to send something like that. To save it up and share. So stinkin' awesome!
looks like they went through the trouble of fully washing all of them too, which is probably for the best lol imagine the smell if they hadn't.
@@JonasC22 I was thinking the same thing. 😂
I dunno why these are just so relaxing to watch.
I too am as preplexed as you & as relaxed for that matter. 👍🏼
Its because the instant result. Pleasure to see transformation from trash to a nice shiny bar. Probably the same reason why restaurations and car detailing videos are popular too.
Cause of the dogs... 😌
Kiding... i feel the same way
I know! I think it's because there is no obnoxious music and no talking. Also his audio is so crisp and clear and not too loud it's like ASMR. I love these vids! And everyone loves puppers ❤️🐕❤️
Because they are relaxing to watch
Your stack looks like what you’d dream about a treasure room looking like as a kid. Awesome video as usual.
Based on the weight of the stack and the amount of videos I calculated that it should take 81 more weeks to get to 1 tonne, so we ought to be there on the 25th of August 2023. The tension is killing me.
Unless he does 2 videos a week
@@southaussiegarbo2054 but thats probably not happening which im cool with anyway

I love that your seasons are opposite ours. Seeing the little boy in you take over and get ice cream on a hot summer day warms us up in our cold winter cabins.
That's super nice this sub saved and cleaned all those trays and lids to be melted down! To add to the stack and our viewing and listening pleasure 🥰
You're a dead set legend mate - Cheers for all the vids every Friday arvo. Me and the kids love watching you and the boys melt.

It would be super cool to do a time lapse of your crucibles after each melt to see how the intense heat breaks them down over time.
I love this idea 😍
alright. you win.
im now waiting. . . . . .
patiently
Yeah okay but it could take quite a while as I melt different crucibles in different furnaces with different metals but it’s certainly an idea I can get done in a future vid👍🏻
We *definitely* need a delicious copper bar in that new casting mold.
I love watching him scrap the slag 😊
The new mold did a great job.
Hey BigstackD!
I consider you as a friend and I enjoy watching your videos. Every one I've seen has been awesome to watch and eventually I will watch the others I haven't.
Ingot and Bullion are absolutely adorable.
Much love and respect to you, my friend.
From a friend in McMinnville, Oregon, USA.
Thanks for battling the heat for us, and as always great to see your boys. Look forward to the next video 😊😊
Much like aluminium cans, those food trays have a thin plastic coating on them, which accounts for the amount of dross when melting. One thing I notice about aluminium is the slag tends to be a bit, 'foamy', due to the relatively low melting temperature with the particles tending to stick to the metal.
It's funny, every time there's an aluminium melt I always get the feeling of "It's the forbidden pudding" when the slag is getting pulled out!
I am sad today I didn't got a single subscriber😭😭......................

This video was a rollercoaster of emotions. Excitement that a new video was out, sadness that the #8 is nearing it's end, but yet so proud of the work it has done, jubilation at seeing the doggos, and then utter tragedy at seeing an overcooked steak. Honestly I'm surprised they let you put something so graphic on youtube. Demonetized for sure!

BigD is a legend and that is a thing that we can’t deny and everybody knows it. Some people try to be like him, some with better results, some with worse.
I know that everything I know now started couple of years back when I watched one of BigD early vids. I was amazed.
I make my own videos now, not so often but I am pretty grateful to Dion for helping me out in my early days.
Big thank you Dion! 🙏
I loved watching you make that aluminum bar dance!
11:37 the boots flying lol love that part. Nice melt. Can’t wait for a motor melt or another big melt

Aaaah yes, the never ending battle of wills between BigStackD and The Ice Cream Truck Nemesis, Mr. Wippy😂. The vile villain appears, intent to tempt our hero with creamy cold goodness.
I used to watch your videos to fall asleep now I watch them to keep me up love the content love the creativity!!
this is definitely a patient mans hobby. Great work!
Even tho it was a chilly 34°F (1°C) here in El Paso, Texas, Mr Wippy still managed to make his rounds on my street. He's a cheeky fellow.
У нас в Маслянино, это в Сибири, сегодня -25 ⁰C (-77⁰F) дети ходят в детский сад, взрослые работают, и ждём когда будет хотя бы -10⁰C (-50⁰F) завидую вам, надоели морозы
It s so strange for me to see place without 1,5 metres of snow at February. Another part of the Earth, what did i want...
Mr. Wippy !! We have Mr. Softy here in the states. A Mr. Softy would really hit the spot about now.
Speaking of pets...My little doggo loves to see the boys in the video. Seriously, ears up, tail wagging, dancing on his front paws... He's the best little partner I've ever had, but he'd trade me in a hot sec to run around with yours!
Not as close a mirror finish but still big and beautiful! So stoked I got to watch 2 videos in a row since I missed last weeks melt. Best part of my week! Thanks a tonne, Uncle Big!❤😎🤙
Thanks for always having such satisfying, amazing content to watch. You're def one of my fav channels and everytime u post a new vid I watch it the first day its out >_
Green sleeves is a lovely song glad to hear it once in a while when the ice cream truck cam and also live the videos
I just love being able to just sit back and relax and enjoy the awesome videos that you make, it is really amazing, keep up the good work, and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.
This seems like one of the best hobbies to get into. The entire process looks fun from searching and scrapping to casting. Looks therapeutic, not to mention the payoff over time
it definitely seems like an investment hobby. i dont know if i would have the patience to keep it up. Id probably make a few bullion and medalions out of copper then the furnace and crucibles wouldget ignored collecting dust and my wife would yell at me that its another project i spent money on that i have given up.
I still cant figure out how you could make any money at doing it if you have to pay for the fuel to run the furnace.
@@jasonrackawack9369 you don't make any money doing it.
Fuel costs are only going to get worse.
You either do it for the fun and/or you have a youtube channel where you can make money from videoing yourself doing it
Beautiful melt this week! Nice to see a new mold shape to widen the stack.
Also, what has the world come to that I shake my fist in rage and say “WHIPPY!!!” when I hear an ice cream jingle? 😄🍦
Question: anyone know what those copper-colored tray-like boxes he has next to the side door? He’s had them for ages and they’ve never been melted.
I am sad today I didn't got a single subscriber😭😭......................
Oh shit! I print these at work. Not specifically this brand but pet food lidding. We die cut them too. You’re going to get a lot of soot from them. About 30% of the weight is an extruded polypropylene backing that helps it keep it’s shape while being die cut and doubles as a heat seal. Another 5% of the weight is the ink and a lacquer that helps to seal it in.
U didnt know that watching you sanding, buffing etc was so satisfying and also how clean everything is
Wow. Doing melts in this weather is crazy 🤪 lol.
I always thought about saving those aluminum dishes, but I didn't because I would have to scrub them all down to store them, which would take ages for this amount of them. Very interesting to see nonetheless 👍👍👍😃
Not if you just washed each one as you go
@@Emma-cq9oy Well, the time would be the same, wouldn't it? And it would use so much more water to wash each one on its own, I don't think that would be a good Idea.

Great video! Really cool that people send you amazing things like those trays! Hope you and the boys keep shelter from that insane heat! 👍
I like how there's no specific aim for something "efficient", it's just some well organized guy having fun 😄
Nice video!
What happens with the metal left in the crucible that doesn't pour?
Does it 'peel' out easily once hard/cold? Or you only use that crucible for the same metal in future?
Some stay in crucible in future melts.
It’s always fascinating to me to see tradesmen in other countries (US here) and the different types of tools and the different brands that they use that we simply have never heard of. Especially when a quick google search reveals how quality some of them are.
It's equally enjoyable reading the Aussie comments
good thing he cleaned them for you :)
I always tend to forget that your summers are during our winters. Heat lasts much longer here in Texas so I am always so happy when winter rolls around.
Watching him smash and compress the stacks down was sooo satisfying
Nice bar buddy!
Took a lil bit of doing to get it there, but it happened!
The boys are well I see, and well kept!
A hot one today for sure!
Thanx for a great vid D! 😁
That was pretty cool watching the bar dance as you poured water on it.😃👍🔥
Under it actually.
The water under the bar flashes into steam which expands lifting the bar.
I’d heard of Mexican jumping beans, but this is my first time seeing an Australian jumping ingot!
The best as ever, i just love the mirror finish and the boys are too cute
Every Friday morning while I take my poop, these videos come out. So naturally. 2 birds 1 stone....or if you are Chuck Norris, 2 stones 1 bird
your dogs are beautiful, they remind me of one my grandmother had, he lived for 13 years, I miss him so much
I've never seen this channel before, so the bit with the icecream man has me dying laughing. I can't even begin to imagine the context
Wow! That took some dedication to clean all those and save them for you. You DO have sensational subs as you say!
Love the socks! I really like the slag getting skimmed and how it makes little sculptures when it cools!
Dude I love how fast this channel has grown. I feel like it was just yesterday when you had a couple thousand subs. Congrats!
You squashing the containers down was very pleasing
Bobby Hill: What if somebody wants theirs well done?
Hank Hill: We ask the firmly yet politely to leave.
Love this channel. Keep cooking that meat yo!
A Perfect, Beautiful shine on the ole Pet Food Bullion Bar. Have a great weekend. 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🐺
Its a great Friday Morning in S/E Michigan. A little cooler than BigstackD 's place in Australia, its currently 11f ( -12C ) with a windchill of 0f ( -18C ) we have about 8" ( 20.3 cm ) of snow with ice underneath . It was a nice warming video watching that trash become treasure.
That new mold will make a huge bar, do We intend to fill it to the brim?
I usually watch these videos from my porch, with a fresh Hot cup of coffee however at the current temps I will be enjoying said videos from my recliner. And should it get or stay any colder a fire in the woodstove may be happening.
I enjoyed the video immensely as always!
Thank You BigstackD!
Everyone I hope you have a wonderful day/Weekend and stay safe all!
The snacks that you give the boys seem like a great way to sneak some extra hydration into them!
for real, this is the best cooking channel ever
I’m not usually a dog person, but the way you are with the boys gives me so many happy chemicals
I love doing this on a daily just to come home and see people do this as well
My dude, you're the first one that I saw caring about keeping the crucibles clean (removing the leftovers from it lol) and that's really nice. The little pause for the meal too!
Loved that mirrored slab, keep it up!
12:55 AWWWW 🥺 he’s like “Dad why are you leaving us again” i could never say no to him being with me wherever i go on my property haha
Oh my God the new molds are perfect... and giant!
What's nice, is that whoever sent those to you cleaned them out first too, so no nasty dried up pet food, just clean aluminum
Not sure which was more satisfying to watch...melting them down or seeing them being Tampered
Really enjoyed this episode quite a bit!!!! Loved the sound of both furnaces at the same time,
Your videos are so calming and amazing and seeing those big eared cuties makes me smile every time! Cheers to you man! You make amazing content and can’t wait to see more!
I just wanted to say that I really like your videos. I also love how you take such good care of bullion and ingot. I’m not sure if their your dogs or not, but either way you take really good care of them with their diet and checking up on them. You have earned a well deserved subscription in my eyes.
