- The other day I received thousands of these aluminium wine caps. I've never thought of melting these before as I'm not a wine drinker but luckily a lot of people out there are. My mate saved thousands of these caps for me and today I'll see how they meltdown. Some crazy colors in today's melt But they look awesome . I will just melt down small portions of them today and save the rest for another time. A single sided mirror shine on the bar today which came out great and another step closer to the target. Now sit back relax enjoy today's video which isn't as long as normal but most importantly have an awesome weekend and I'll see all you beautiful people next week we are hopefully I have my kiln running and can make something a bit better than a block👊🏻😁.
Now Guys if you Feel like supporting the channel it wont cost you a cent as you can Simply just donate some of your time. HOW I MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

Wine Bottle Top Bulk Melt - ASMR Metal Melting - Trash To Treasure - BigStackD Casting Aluminum - Развлечения
Hey guys how are you all on this wet and cold Friday? Well at least where I am it is . A lot of disappointment I'm sure with today's video as people are probably expecting more but it is something I haven't done before and never really thought about it. But good news is I Finally Got the kiln wired up today so running it through a few checks and hopefully next week it will be in action as I have a few ideas of what my first kilned clay casting will be🤔. Anyway I hope you all have an awesome happy safe weekend and I'll see all you beautiful people next Friday 😃👋🏻
Hi bigstackd I have a question do you like collecting the ingots or do you have a bigger plan for them like making something?
Still remains the best part of the week!
Half past one in the morning! Let's melt some stuff!
@@CollynPlayzhe's gonna build a brick house so the wolf doesn't get him.
It's too hot in Europe. 30°C 🥵
Meanwhile, it's insanely hot here in Ukraine. Can you try making manganese bronze or aluminium bronze, please?
The colours come from different metals in the paints on the caps. The heat 'excites' electrons and raises them to a higher energy level. As the flame cools down the electrons lose this extra energy, emitting it in the form of light. The amount of energy and the relative position of the electrons determines the colour of the flame. The green you see is most likely copper, iron is a very vivid orange, magnesium burns bright white, barium flames are green, strontium gives off a lovely brick red etc.
What about the blue?....
@@exsappermadman25055 There are quite a few that create a blue or blueish flame including copper, bismuth and arsenic. In this case though it's most likely to be tin.
@@TheDiplococcus Ah, I was trying to remember what it was!....There must be all sorts of chemicals and metals in them when you see the amount of slag and the strange glowing "bricks"....Cheers...
I am curious what your opinion is on those glowing rocks. That one mystified me. Maybe some weird oxide from all those burned inorganic chemicals combining into something that tends to give off more light than normal?
Is it possible blue comes from cobalt too ?
I seriously doubt that there are two more well cared for dogs on the planet.
I almost can't believe just how close we are to one tonne now. Scary to think that one big melt could finally push us over the mark
Geht's nachh der Tonne weiter ?
@@thetester3990👀👍
sooooo close now :D
The more I watch your videos the more I regret not coming to Australia when I was younger, to me having parrots in the yard is mind blowing, thanks for the content, very relaxing and calming, I suffered of some heavy form of insomnia, after watching one of your melts I will fall asleep peacefully, calm and relaxes, anxiety gone, nerves are better, you are basically a spa for the mind
Looks like a few of the caps were magnesium instead of aluminum. I occasionally get the same effect from certain motor parts. They're very bright.
I had a similar thought. I also wondered if the ink might have had some sort of magnesium in it that finally caught fire from the heat.
Why use magnesium?
Aluminium is much cheaper.
@@XtreeM_FaiLmagnesium is only 2/3 as heavy as aluminum, it has one of the highest vibration resistances in metals, it is easily machined, and it’s pretty much completely nontoxic to the environment, in addition to being fairly strong.
Thanks! You’re getting close! A small token of my appreciation for your hard work. A loyal bigstackD fan, 😊
Cheers for the ongoing support Kathy I really appreciate it. Have yourself an awesome week 👊😁
Gigachad spotted 🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥
WD-40 @24:46 Australians use that for everything from aftershave to personal lubricant....and polishing aluminium of course.
You’ve melted the metal in my heart. Thank you BigstackD
👊🏻😁
What shape did he cast it it into, and what was the total value? 😁
@@feynthefallenQuizzical or literal question?😁
@@QVolts-Main Rhetorical question.
@@jasongrinnell1986 obvious question
The flames looked so cool on this melt, the greens, blues and then the orange behind the main flame, and the final product of the melt came out great
Duuuude,I missed seeing your page. Forgot how long it's been. Glad I'm back
Watching you spoil the dogs is one of the best parts of these videos. They are clearly happy little creatures and I am glad you include them.
Working the night shift in northern Alberta and the Big guy drops a video thanks Bigstasked for making my night less boring 😎😎👍👍
How cute was little ingot. Nice one man. Have a great weekend
Mostly dry and hotter than blazes in Houston, Texas. It's strangely nice to see cold, rainy wintertime in Australia.
Watching metal melted down is very comforting too. Thank you.
I honestly those those two might be the happiest dogs in the world.
They are clearly taken well care of 💕
D, I for one really appreciate the hard work you put into your videos. It doesn’t go unnoticed.
I checked your mates candle business out and the fact that he uses soy wax has made me more interested in buying some candles. Thank you for another awesome video
LOL - The dog rescue is so cute - never forget our little friends!
The dogs as puppies were just to darn cute !!
I officially finished ALL of your past videos and am on pins and needles waiting for Fridays now... Thank you for what you do, I enjoyed every one of your videos... I must say that Nordic Gold and Aluminum Bronze are my absolute favorites to watch you melt.... I'm so excited to see you fire up the Kiln, I was hoping you got it up and running...
These are such great works. The food finds are my favorite. Love your sense of humor and all the knowledge shared
6:10 Oh WOW!!! Them colours are super magical looking! 😮😍🤩
I’ve never seen anything more quintessentially Australian than melting alcohol tops while eating kangaroo steak with parrots in the yard.
Beautiful colors, too.
Great job!! I loved the flames on this melt… reminded me of the northern lights somewhat, so beautiful!
Man that opening shot....those multi hue flames are beautiful but I can only imagine what they'd do to your lungs if you didn't wear a respirator for every melt. Thanks as always for the great content, highlight of my Friday getting home from work knowing there'll be a bigstackD melt waiting to watch
As you were taking out those seals, I figured you had to be getting cramps in your hands.
That's why I myself don't melt the twist off caps anymore, plus it creates a ton of dross, smoke, and yucky stuff. Arthritis is another reason, too.
@@walter2990 I understand. After years of driving semi, my back is messed up from a herniated disk. probably from lifting extremely heavy tarps and chains.
I agree with the statement "it's about the journey and not the destination"!.
And I'm grateful to you for sharing this journey with us. Thanks BigD
Great video! I loved this weeks melt! Keep it up
i really like these kind of vids
BigStack the patience that you have for these melts is amazing
Loving the colours! Proper trippy!
Some of the best content on RUclips! Absolutely love the content every Friday. Thank you!
Like I was saying on Cutting Edge Engineering, CCE and BigstackD my two favorite aussies to stay up for on Friday mornings!
Might want to look at designing a fume hood for the furnace to be able to do more inside melting if the weather is not in your favour!
A good strong fan might/could blow those nasties outside. Oops, typed the comment before watching all of the video. He did just that.
Absolutely loved the flames. They were so pretty.
That is serious commitment to your business to drink a bottle of wine for every candle holder...total props to your mucker
Being that they were wine bottle tops, I imagine that you had a lot of different compositions of paint from a variety of different countries. Not to mention a lot of different colors. All that contributed to the array of spectacular flame colors.
Just the ticket for my Friday morning insomnia!
love when The Big D uploads 😅
This is the kind of ASMR ambient that I need
It's different metals that produce the coloured flames. Magnesium produces a white flame, sodium produces a yellow flame, while copper produces a green flame. I'm not sure what produces the magenta and the violet coloured flames. Based on the paint pigments, which contain a certain amount of metal, the casting could have traces of other metals in it. Cheers! ✌️
Potassium salts and road flare strontium are my best guess as to the purple and magenta flames.
lithium makes bright reddish pink flames, not sure where that would've came from though
always a great video big d keep at it my man
look forward to every friday for a new video
Gotta love the Friday morning routine
Hello
Interesting melting today!
Different colours are due to metals present in the caps paint. Here are some common flame colors associated with specific metals:
1. Lithium (Li): Bright red flame color.
2. Sodium (Na): Intense yellow flame color.
3. Potassium (K): Pale lilac or pink flame color.
4. Calcium (Ca): Orange-red flame color.
5. Barium (Ba): Pale green flame color.
6. Copper (Cu): Blue-green flame color.
7. Strontium (Sr): Bright red flame color.
8. Lead (Pb): Bluish-white flame color.
9. Zinc (Zn): Bluish-green flame color.
For next melting video, pls consider a huge motor melting 😂
Have a nice weekend
I can assure you I will be doing a very large motor melt in the coming months. I’m trying to track down a nice old one that is well over 500 kg🤫
@@bigstackD I cannot wait!!!!😳😅🙏
I'm surprised that you haven't yet devised a chute system to help feed small stuff like this. Love your videos.
He has, it's called a bent Mulan bucket.
Hahahahaha, this guy, before I seen the bucket I was thinking "huh, that sounds complicated and sophisticated" 😂
he might have but if it was aluminum its now in the stack lol
Watching your videos is how I have a good start to my Fridays. Thank you :)
Same to you. Here is also raining. I am waiting to see your target
Another friday another stack! Keep it up
I bet the colours would have looked awsome at night, great video 👍
So badass, that flame was mesmerizing! 👌
Wine bottle caps, nice! Finally something super chill to do, no crazy deconstruction or wild disassem- ‘then proceeds to remove all foam from each one’ - 😳 …you sir are a true inspiration!
yeah! 2167 lbs I was born in Nov 21 1967 I've watched and subscribed for 2 years ! Keeping up BigstackD love your videos
If they make candles out of the bottles I'm surprised they've not thought of making tea-lights out of the lids...
But then you wouldn't have had all this free aluminium to smelt 😁
That's a great idea!! Each candle comes with a matching tea light from a part of the original bottle. 2 candles from the same bottle. 🤔
Never a disappointment; always a pleasure! Enjoyable to watch every time, and I can usually learn something. I'm always impressed by your editing skills. Keep your videos coming please!
Love the rhythm of your edits and the classical music when you're driving.
As to the question about the colors, aluminum does not live paint. It has to have a special primer for the paint to stick to it.
Or you opened up a portal to another dimension.
What do you mean does not live paint? To my understanding paint sticks to aluminium without primer.
Paint doesn't like aluminum. Modern paint may be different. In the beginning of aluminum production, the paint would slide off with out the proper primer. The interior of aircraft were zinc chromate green.
Also modern sandpaper has helped the problem.
However, the rougher the surface, the more drag you have.
As to the bottle caps,it was just a thought.
I'm going with he has opened a portal to another dimension.
@@lyleslaton3086 Oh, i forgot to respond..
Ok, yea might depend on the paint type. But i paint aluminium five days a week without a primer at work, so thats why your comment interested me. Of course it's sanded and wiped with silicone remover before spraying.
But yea, the portal..
EDIT: Plastic on the other hand! It definately needs its own primer for paint to stick!
I've quit melting the twist off caps because there's too much silicon sealant in them. It makes a real mess and too much smoke when melting.
Those colors are awesome 👌🏼
Stay dry down there Dion. Have yourself a great weekend 👍🏻
Cheers Dave 🍻. It just feels like I'm getting sooo much more rain out here especially when I wanna melt or do yard work🙄. Just happy that the house is elevated and im on a hill as the ground here is 99% clay and water just pools if it cant go anywhere. Anyway buddy thanks again have a great weekend aswell 👊
I have a seemingly odd question, but where did the metal Mulan bucket come from? Popcorn tin?
And you're right, its all about the journey and we have enjoyed it with you the whole way man!
Ahhh, WD-40, THE DRINK OF CHAMPIONS!!
Thanks for the show man
Of all the flame tornadoes I've seen these are by far the best I absolutely love the colors
I wonder what the end result would be if you poured the molten aluminium over some uncrushed lids that have been warmed in the mold. Might make an interesting piece/s for your collection.
Great melt Big D! You said that you could watch those colours all day.... I saw colours like that, all day, back in the 70's ;)
Have a great weekend buddy.
Half ya luck brother, yeah they looked pretty bloody awesome in person it’s a shame the colours didn’t come through as nice as they looked on the video. Thanks again mate you’re an absolute champion
👊🏻😁🍻🍻
Well mate I think this is one of the most prettiest melts I think you've done looking forward to future videos like this
The colors were amazing to see
The green flame was probably caused by the paint used on the caps, because the paint had copper ions in it, like any caps with black, red, brown, or green paint.
Blue and orange have a lot of copper too the colors with the most copper in it is in order orange red green and blue
Ah forgot gold or brass color they are about 50%+ of copper and some companies here in US electro plate copper before painting
Paint generally breaks down to easily on aluminum as seen on old siding so most aluminum caps are electro plated if painted or they use pigmented varnishes that don’t break down on aluminum
I don't know what caused the flame in the opening of the video to look like it did, but it was cool looking.😀
Great melt today, loved the colours! And so close to your 1 ton goal, great work 😁
Beautiful colors of flames 🔥
Красивый цвет пламени..Молодец мужик,не бездельничает,не бухает,а занят полезным делом и это его хобби,которое приносит прибыль..
That is dedication pulling all that out of the caps props to you.
Great vid as always, especially loved the footage of the boys as puppies. Funny seeing Bullion show up and immediately take charge. :)
Those flames looked beautiful
Colour of flame is so ❤ relaxing.
It’s Saturday night and l should be out on the town, instead I’m at home watching videos of various metals being melted down. 😂😂
Thanks, BigD!!
Love those lil guys!! ❤
Need this today as it’s been a hectic week and want something to relax to.
Gotta love the #8 crucible!
I'm excited for your next slag melt!
perfect pour, perfect brick
I loved the color of the flames. Another great video.
Wow, those coloured flames look like some kind of sorcery. Would make a good effect in a fantasy film.
Those dogs melted my heart they are so cute
Amazing video, bit of a light show to go with it this week too 😂 I love watching aluminium being poured it’s so mesmerising.
Love the mirror bar & those cute pup's mate 👍
That fire in the intro looks so cool
that green vortex at the start was beautiful
Friday, beer & bigstakd melting! It's new tradition!
Wow you really do put in the hard yards for us, peeling all that foam out of the bottle caps etc thanks mate!
The flames were so cool
Great taste in music!
Great job D 💯✅💯
I loved the last part of the video....❤❤
The colors are really cool! It could be the sugars and alcohol burning off... It is quite pretty!
Anything you upload is awesome. I always enjoy. Can’t wait to see the kiln I action. I could watch the colors all day too 😂 it was good to see the boys as pups again.. 🍻👍
Awesome!
