As many people model their "restoration channels" off of you, NO ONE even comes close to your professionalism and perfection. You deserve the millions of views you get.
My favorite restoration channel. No silly gimmicks, no lame subscription requests, just straight up get to work and make a great video and restoration. Thanks.
Yup. That's also the reason I subscribed. Not 15 minutes of "you will never guess what we will restore today but first let me tell you about my day". JUST GET ON WITH IT!!! Absolutely love also the lack of music although I would appreciate some commentary from him.
This is the best restoration channel I have come across. Other channels just annoy me with their sloppy finish, this channel just does everything perfect and the best part is there is no annoying music. Great job.
When I realised you were going to redo and rewind the voice coils, my jaw dropped. That is NOT at all an easy thing to get right even for experienced people. Congrats on the restoration and doing so well!!
The year is 2096. My Mechanics has grown old and grey, but still makes these wonderful videos. The camera pans to a hospital bed, where he systematically explains all the faults with his aging body with on screen captions and perfectly framed close-up shots. A quick disassembly later and the extent of the damage is revealed - joints are seized and arthritic, but the bones and muscles are in excellent condition. The camera zooms in on a hip joint, showing pitting and damaged bone. A caption pops up. "I make a new one." 34 minutes of gorgeously edited footage of amazingly talented machining and tool work ends with a smooth assembly and the trademark before and after shots, showing a much younger looking My Mechanics. The audience is left to wondering how he possibly managed to restore himself.
You didn't restore German headphones from WW2, you _MADE_ a brand-new, authentic, pair of headphones. You, sir, are a true professional and I'm truly floored by the level of care and dedication you've shown to your craft.
Yeah, it really isn't a restoration since it is now modded and improved (with bevels, filler, etc.) Still quite enjoyable to watch, but more like creation than restoration.
Since he used some of the original parts and cleaned them up, yes this is a restoration. He had to make new parts for the badly worn or damaged ones but he made them to the original specifications.
My favourite thing about your work is not just the attention to detail, but you also do your best to make the thing actually work as optimally as possible. No other RUclips restoration channel would remake the coils or bother getting an impedance meter to correctly adjust the headphones, or even know to do it at all. You're on another level. Just an insane amount of artistry is put into everything you do. Thank you for the incredible videos.
The most impressive thing, and why MY MECHANICS stands tall above all other restoration channels on YT, is the fact he goes beyond restoration, actually removing original manufacturing defects. Its a great skill. Perhaps even an art form. He challenges himself in each video, providing us with completely new content each time. Awesome work MM.
One could, on that basis, claim that it is not restoration, but rather "recreation using original parts". There is a subtle difference: If a museum is to restore something, those historic flaws (or, say, sharp edges) are kept to document how the period techniques were. Although there are occasional liberties taken, I often find this channel more faithful to history than many others. Kudos for that!
@@marstr2 There are different kinds of restoration, MMs are at one extreme of the scale, but I think its still a restoration and not a recreation at all. Certainly his work would not be appreciated by a museum curator who likes original patina and authentic dust. MM brings old items back into the modern age, maintaining autheticity, bringing the item to the highest standard it could ever reach, showing its true potential. His items will last another lifetime, fully functional and in a brand new condition... which also has much value for historians in the future. Take this recreation here... had it been kept in the condition it was found in a museum, it sure would look old and historic, but it would not work and besides looking at it, what value does it bring? Noone could actually use it as intended. Now, thanks to MM, it can be plugged into a laptop and used to listen to anything downloaded from the internet. You could even run old recorded German airforce radio chatter through it. Hows that for an historical experience? There is a balance when it comes to restoration and I think MM does it so tastefully. I am fully supportive of his work. I dont think he detracts from the historic value of these items one bit.

It's basically the same as winding guitar pickups, and I found creating whole new bobbins without the use of a 3D printer to be the most interesting part of rewinding the coils since I've wound a coil or two -- one in the field when I had a camera take a dunk in a Mexican river and had to rewind the shutter coil to get it working again, or face not having a camera for three or four months. I never did get around to dialing in the 1/1000 shutter speed, it's more like 1/800 because my hand wound coil is just a little bit weaker.

The other channels seem like they’re just purposely corroding stuff, then filming the “cleaning” and reassembling process. You’re actually restoring and always improving the items your working on.
Really great work, but myself, I'd prefer that none of the "improving" mentioned above was going on, and rather, a restoration only, as the items were originally made was conducted.

Incredible. Making and winding your own coils from scratch immediately leaves all other "restoration" channels YT far behind. Everyone else takes stuff apart, cleans it, paints it and puts it back together. Your work is real restoration. Outstanding sir!
The attention to detail is absolutely insane. You put so much work into these videos and they’re amazing to watch. You must really love doing these! Thanks for sharing!!! Please keep it up!
I could watch you fix things for hours. If I hadn't already watched all of your episodes many times over, I'd watch them again lol. By far the very best restoration channel, or anywhere I've ever seen. To be honest. It's so much fun watching you fix everything that crosses your path. You make things look even better then they ever did when they were brand new.
Let me tell you how much this man's unequal and unmatched work of sheer art means to me. I was having a really bad day and I legitimately found myself with a stupid smile on my face as soon as I saw the notification on my phone for this video. This was not the first time this has happened either. As for this literal Perfection of a video, I don't need to repeat what others have already said about it very well. This person is not only the true master of his craft in my opinion, he is a human personification of a time machine for the items he works on. Thank you very much and please keep doing what you do!
Im in awe! Ill bet there are many people, museums and reenactors that wish they had your skills, patience and equipment to do what you do, me included! Your machinery is top of the line, and you kniw exactly how to use it. " back in the day" we had to figure out how repair stuff on the fly, without internet access things were way different. Thanks for sharing your talents!
Meiner Meinung nach mit Abstand der Beste Restaurationskanal auf RUclips. Die Qualität der gezeigten Arbeiten ist die Beste die ich je gesehen habe. Hut ab, bitte mehr davon!!
Translation of Blonkel's comment above: "In my opinion by far the best restoration channel on RUclips. The quality of the work shown is the best I have ever seen. Hats off, more of this please!"
This guy is a master craftsman! The only other guy on RUclips that I've seen as good as him is the guy from The New Yorkshire Workshop. Could watch both of them show off their expertise all day!! There's something therapeutic about watching masters of their craft.
As much as these restorations are amazing, the same level of attention to detail goes into the photography and editing, truly amazing, and simply the gold standard for these types of videos.
I was sceptical at first, because I didn't know what kind of a restoration I would see, on a pair of old headphones such as these. After watching the video I was simply amazed with the level of workmanship you put into this, all the way to the coils and the red and black plugs. I should have known better, this is after all the best restoration channel on RUclips!
@@MrCarGuy yeah but we’re taking consumer stuff, not what’s in a Japanese recording studio, CD900ST’s and their replacement are also literally from the 80’s or basically from the 80’s
I have seen so many copy-cat restoration channels trying to mirror this author. What sets him apart, and I find fascinating is his high level of craftsmanship and perfection. I enjoy watching him fabricate replacement parts and fasteners for all the projects he starts. Along with creating custom tools to make the job so relaxing to watch. When he completes the project it is not a restoration, but a display of artwork.
Those should be in a museum. They look absolutely brand new, and much better then the original. Awesome work and I very much enjoyed watching the entire process.
When you started undoing the coils, my jaw dropped. The level of effort and detail you will go through to complete a restoration thoroughly is just so admirable! Also-- can we just all take a moment and appreciate how things made before the 1980s were designed to be taken apart and repaired instead of tossed into the trash and replaced?
Honestly, I got goosebumps with how caring and masterful you were with the details and the process. To spend hours if not days to turn something that to most (even me) seem like garbage and make something so beautiful... you have changed how I view this world entirely and I do not get how a restoration video can do that, but yours did. Truly, Thank you.
I was surprised that such high-impedance headphones worked so well with the low-impedance output of modern audio equipment. They would probably work better in the line output rather than the usual headphone jack. They would be excellent for a crystal radio or a tube-type regenerative receiver. Maybe someday he could restore such a device?
This is a beautiful marriage of restoring old pieces and fabricating new ones. It's not only the level of your craftsmanship but also your knowledge behind your work, that makes your channel above all others. In all honesty, at first I thought, a Kopfhörer, is that even interesting? The final result turned into such a unique piece of art that I'm jealous.
Still the highest level of restoration being performed out there. Your "I'll make a new one" is not just a catch phrase, you deliver! Keep up the ingenious work brother! Thank you!
WOW amazing!! The attention to the details is astonishing! Also if you are into stuff like this, you should try restoring an old (50s-70s) electric guitar!
The quality of every element - not just the restoration itself, but the camera work and editing...there's just nothing else like it out there. Truly excellent.
Whenever I think that I've already seen the best of My Mechanics, he always manages to surprise me once again with one of these amazing restorations. No words to describe how great this channel is!
I've watched a ton of your videos and usually use them as background noise when I sleep, never did I expect to hear you make a sound in any way so when you blew the dust off it startled me
That wire in the cables is special, with the helical winding over the stranded inner part. When the connectors came off, I thought for a moment that it looked like an eye-splice in a rope! Well done, especially going the extra 1.6 km in winding new coils on new bobbins.
It really goes without saying, but your work is exquisite. Truly. You don't just clean something up or maybe sharpen a blade, you take it back to when it was first made and make it even better than it was *then*. I'd call that art more than just simple restoration.
Is there anything you can't do? You are my favorite channel (and many others) for this very reason. You're one phenomenally talented guy, your restorations are top notch and I can't even watch other channels because they don't take the care and perfection as you do. You sir are the best there is at fixing and restoring things. Phenomenal job with these Headphones. I really like that you kept the original wire and everything else you can salvage. 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 Well done.
Sad part about these videos is that they come to an end and it'll be a while before we get to see another one. Can't rush perfection and as always, fantastic work. I look forward to seeing every new video.
Without a doubt the best restoration channel out there, I've commented this once before already, but yours is just notoriously superior to all the others. I read some comments saying that other channels seem to purposely corrode items, or just straight up cover them with dirt and muck, and that's a true shame. You actually either receive or find genuinely old, beat up, rusty, broken things and bring them back to life. Dedication just shows in every minute of your videos. Thank you for maintaining a slow, but steady upload schedule, it goes to show just how much time goes into the making of each video. This is how quality content looks like. Just thank you.
I really appreciate the care you took in this restoration. Over 80 years ago, someone assembled this for its purpose, and it was used by individuals to carry out a mission. Someone may have heard the last words spoken, or it may have been the last sound they registered. Those people are long gone, but a relic they touched has been restored to live on another 80 years.
The only thing I'd add is that there are that a few of those chaps are still with us. Not many to be sure, but a few. It'd be interesting to see their reaction
I’m always blown away by the amount of boxes this channel ticks. Amazing restoration work using finely honed technique, fun projects, precision, cleanliness, ASMR… this has it all Plus every time he says “I make a new one” I have a good chuckle
I don't care that your videos can be months apart I love the way you try to replace as little as possible and take the extra step to make it as accurate as physically possible I hope you have a wonderful day
It takes the patience of a saint to meticulously file between each and every notch of not one but two knurled rings. By hand 🖐️ . Didn't know what all the pieces were called, thanks for educating and entertaining. Astonishing!
You never fail to amaze me with the levels that you are prepared to go to get that perfect restoration. Your craftsmanship is on another level. Very impressive and thank you for the upload.
Just quiet, competent work. I love the "pop" the collet chuck makes when it releases the part! This guy is a perfectionist, and doesn't settle for second best. Beautiful restorations.
YES you can do it, there's a lot of "ready to build" parts like the jack, cable, housing, and tons variety of driver (little speaker on the headphone housing) I can say it's easy, just cutting here, buying that, and soldering this into that, but the hardest part is tuning the audio into your preferences
As many people model their "restoration channels" off of you, NO ONE even comes close to your professionalism and perfection. You deserve the millions of views you get.

yes, some of restoration projects here on RUclips seem very suspicious with the condition of items they restored.
Really great work, but myself, I'd prefer that none of the "improving" mentioned above was going on, and rather, a restoration only, as the items were originally made was conducted.
There are other channels for that. My Mechanics does remakes, others remasters.
@@nazrey8910 Rusted rubber parts and stuff like that?
My favorite parts are "This/That is broken, I make new one". Keep up the excellent work sir.
I am astonished with the amount of work required with such small object. Attention to detail, wires. Kudos!
Your restorations give me a new perspective on the deemed unfixable. They help me to see the beauty within. I feel so honored to witness your art.
IKR? Seeing what can be done one understands that a lot of things can be actually salvaged.

Too insanely good. This looks more of a new fabrication than a restoration. Just wow.
I agree. I think he could have fabricated a new set.
@@Silver_Turtle I agree - make a new set and display them alongside the old set. I feel a bit of the history was lost this time. They are more perfect than they were ever made originally.
And that's the problem, all its history is now gone. Restoration is not conservation.

Incredible. Making and winding your own coils from scratch immediately leaves all other "restoration" channels YT far behind. Everyone else takes stuff apart, cleans it, paints it and puts it back together. Your work is real restoration. Outstanding sir!
Thank you very much, much appreciated :-)
Watch linguoer, she rewinds a lot of engines and on a totaly different level. Poor class. But respect.
The attention to detail is absolutely insane. You put so much work into these videos and they’re amazing to watch. You must really love doing these! Thanks for sharing!!! Please keep it up!
Quality content with no added filler and you treat the viewer with respect. Thank you.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it :-)
I watched most of them twice, some three times, its mesmerizing
@@TheMieremetrob lol same buddy. He makes it so much fun and interesting to watch. It's not repetitive, and you can learn new tricks
@@mymechanics hey no problem buddy. I'm a huge fan of your channel
Yes! I'm suffering from the same problem. I watched ALL of them too. I never done that with any channel. 🤣
You said it best! pretty much described my feeling when I see the notifications and how these videos make me feel!! I can't really explain it!
Well, he is Swiss.
I could not agree more. It amazes me to see how much knowledge and skills this man has. He's like a king Midas, everything he touches turns into gold.
Amen bro, well said. I could literally watch him fix things to perfection for hours and hours
Nice to hear that, thank you very much :-)
"I make a new one" - gets me every time! And now you made new coils as well - genius!!
You're the only making/restoration channel I watch at actual speed. Your pace is so pleasant that it must be watched the way it is.
So true! I almost always watch other channels at double speed, but not MM.
Same! I usually speed up other videos because they don't keep consistent, interesting pace. My Mechanics is the top game even in that :)
Glad to hear that, thank you very much
@@kingofanything8074, so as I do. 1,5x speed just when there is some talking/explanations by the maker/restorer.

There's something therapeutic about watching masters of their craft.
astonishing as always.
you never fail to impress me either for give a second life but also to remake broken part perfectly.
As much as these restorations are amazing, the same level of attention to detail goes into the photography and editing, truly amazing, and simply the gold standard for these types of videos.
Agree. The video documentation of this meticulous restoration is incredible in itself.
Thank you very much!
Wow, thank you very much for your nice comment!
This YT restorer always impresses. Top quality and the finest restorer on YT
I'm truly amazed at how good condition some of the pieces were even before restoration

The behind the scenes work he has to do for the jigs alone would be a great video series.
I am so amazed by how detailed you work on things, it's always perfect. My mind's blown by how much you know about things to restore it.
Absolutely amazing! Such craftsmanship to remake the damaged parts!
Richtig schön geworden. So viel Hingabe und Geduld wird mit diesem besonderen Ergebnis belohnt. 🙂
I don't find anything like him on RUclips all of his competitors, that he treats the piece as if it were a member of his house
Those should be in a museum. They look absolutely brand new, and much better then the original. Awesome work and I very much enjoyed watching the entire process.
Unfortunately, they wouldn't accept it because it's better than original, therefore not authentic. :))
I agree! What a level of detail.
"Let it go, Indiana…"
@@aserta Very true. There is a difference between curation and restoration. Though, of course, both have there place in a museum.
they look noyhing llike they would have been duuring ww2
Can we all agree that the jigs alone he made are more than 99% of us could ever make?!? Thanks for another amazing masterpiece.
Very moist! I'm surprised you didn't need an amp for all that impedance. Mine were super quiet until I used one.
Have you tried with a proper stero system? Mine very very quiet too when I tested on my phone.
I was surprised that such high-impedance headphones worked so well with the low-impedance output of modern audio equipment. They would probably work better in the line output rather than the usual headphone jack. They would be excellent for a crystal radio or a tube-type regenerative receiver. Maybe someday he could restore such a device?
I would love to see him restore an old radio...
@@mymechanics I'm not cool enough to have a proper stereo system.
The amount of craftsmanship you have is amazing, i couldnt imagine being able to do stuff like this
This is a beautiful marriage of restoring old pieces and fabricating new ones.
Thank you!
Thanks a lot for being here :-)
It's sad that you make other restoration channels seem mediocre. I'm in awe of your mastery and your videos are so well made.
Thank you very much, much appreciated :-)
Always deeply impressed and overwhelmed by this unmatched degree of perfection.
WOW amazing!! The attention to the details is astonishing!
Also if you are into stuff like this, you should try restoring an old (50s-70s) electric guitar!
Maybe one day ;-)
The quality of every element - not just the restoration itself, but the camera work and editing...there's just nothing else like it out there. Truly excellent.
Thanks a lot!
Whenever I think that I've already seen the best of My Mechanics, he always manages to surprise me once again with one of these amazing restorations. No words to describe how great this channel is!
I thought the same thing. "this should be good but probably not his best." how wrong I was!
Wow, thank you!
Is there anything you can't do? You are my favorite channel (and many others) for this very reason. You're one phenomenally talented guy, your restorations are top notch and I can't even watch other channels because they don't take the care and perfection as you do. Sad part about these videos is that they come to an end and it'll be a while before we get to see another one. Can't rush perfection and as always, fantastic work. I look forward to seeing every new video.
I'll try my best to get a new one done quicker
@@mymechanics no worries, take your time. I appreciate the fine work you do, it's worth the wait!
No cheesy stuff or crappy music. Just doing the restoration. I watch a few and some of them I have to skip the cheesy crap cause it is just annoying.
Hello, your comment is very accurate. He works very carefully and takes care of all the details. And the ending is amazing.
I will never cease to be amazed by you and your work.
This was a pleasure to watch. The details, the tools, the fact you rewired the coils,... just perfect.
I wonder what they were used for in Germany 80 years ago? 🤔

YES you can do it, there's a lot of "ready to build" parts like the jack, cable, housing, and tons variety of driver (little speaker on the headphone housing)
I can say it's easy, just cutting here, buying that, and soldering this into that, but the hardest part is tuning the audio into your preferences
