The Postman Rings Twice. You have abilities which the average person is unaware of. For those of us who can follow your work (jigs included) we are in awe of a true Master. Outstanding video!
As a machinist from Canada, I absolutely love your work! It goes to show how important it is to make products out of high quality materials that can stand the test of time and that are able to be beautifully restored by skilled, intelligent individuals like yourself. Not like a lot of garbage that's produced today. You wont see any 2020 doorbells being restored in over 100 years. I hope manufacturers get back to their roots and get away from cheap, mass produced, plastic, unserviceable junk.
Apologies mate but this is highly subjective. You won't find any 2020 typical, run of the mill doorbells being restored in 100 years. No. But there are plenty of custom, expensive versions of things out there you *will* find in 100 years. Mostly things belonging to rich people. And before you say "well of course rich people will have high quality stuff thats worth restoring in 100 years! what about everyone else?" if you think a middle class Joe like you or I had this type of doorbell, or any doorbell at all, 100 years ago you'd be sadly mistaken. Mass produced things has made everything cheaper. Now even the poorest people in society can afford a doorbell, or better yet, it's *expected* they have one.
Simple electromechanical doorbells are still being made today. They are rare but they still exist. Those that play back some mp3 file (or whatever format they use) likely won't work anymore and can't be repaired. Though a well made mask ROM might actually still be readable even in a hundred years, if it's not blown because of some other fault in the circuit (really new ones use flash memory though, I think, which will be unreadable in a few decades).
Mind totally blown. By the quality of the restoration, and also by the fact that that simple piece of engineering from circa 1900 still somewhat works. Humans are amazing.
The true artist isn't afraid to cover his best work to achieve the full restoration. Most restorers don't bother making something beautiful if it'll be covered up, whereas you sir are the real deal. Every part restored fully and better than new, an absolute joy to watch. Thank you.
This is my first comment ever on youtube, after many years of enjoying it but after this video I could not resist. You truly are an artist , it is a joy to view your master restorations. I have been in the mechanic trade for 20 years so I understand your craftsmanship to some degree. Your level of patience and your unwillingness to comprimice with the result is so wonderful. Many thanks for sharing your beautiful restorations to the world. Love from Sweden / Jonas
We have it here something like: The shoemakers shoes always have a hole. And when I was a postman, where the signn said electro mechanic, I didn't even tried the bell, a knew it doesnt work...
The patent was extremely interesting to read. A clever design for electric trams to be able to signal the driver that they are ready to depart. The driver puts the train into slow forward, but the circuit is broken by breakers in each car. The conductors of each car ensure they are ready to leave, and flip their switches. Only when all cars are ready to leave will the motors energize.

This is probably my favorite restoration. Finding the newspaper pieces was like opening a time capsule. Then when he added the paper denoting the year and restorer, it was like making a new time capsule. The only thing I would have done different would have been to put the old newspaper back in with my note.
Love the fact that you made a mistake and kept it on camera to show us. Not many people can own up to it. Also goes to show that someone can be doing this almost their whole life and can still make them.
This may sound funny, but this actually has to be my favorite restoration you've done so far. I know it's just a doorbell, but everything that went into it was just absolutely fascinating. Well done!

It's an electromagnet, so the core should be made of a ferromagnetic material (e.g. iron) to work. It would still be an electromagnet with a wooden core, but much weaker, probably won't be strong enough to pull the arm.
Great work so professional. Brought back an old memory... I remember as a young boy (9) in the late '50s, stripping one almost the same as this. Mine was not a restoration but an experiment to make an induction shocking coil (that is what it was called in an old encyclopedia). I added another coil from an old radio (i think) to the outside of one of the coils and did not use the other. . changed the height of the trembler part to the centre of the smaller coil. the trembler action when a battery was connected simulated an AC current by the breaking and making of the circuit, inducing a current on the larger coil which gave a high voltage output (transformer action). It worked a treat and thought up all sorts of ways to trick my uncles to give them shocks.

The attention to detail is off the charts. Not to mention the excellent video editing that people miss when they are entranced by your handy work. 1000% fine art
Watching this “restoration” is like watching someone to take a Rembrant painting scrap it with spatula and glue on a new cheap shiny reprint of that same art. Restoration is, when you fix old stuf the way you leave the marks of the time on it, just make it functional again and replace everything as close to original as possible.
It is so surprising to see that even more than 100 years ago German manufacturing was so good. here in Pakistan quality of products are so low that they don't even last a year. Hats off to you for doing excellent job to restore that precious antique bell.
A masterful restoration, My Mechanics has few if any equals. This bell was of particular interest as in my German school in Santiago (dating from about 1910) we had an entirely similar bell sounding the end of each class period. The sound was powerful enough to be heard across a large schoolyard. How lovely to hear its sound after so many years away! Many thanks MM for the nostalgia!
So cool that you found old newspaper inside the coils! My forte definitely isn’t electronics, especially old ones; but watching you repair the old circuit and fix the paint problem was very educational! I love watching you do woodwork on your electronic lathe, and the copper part looked gorgeous in the end! Sadly I can’t read German very well, but I’m very glad you framed the pieces in acrylic. Also the note to your great grandson was adorable! Really cool to think about how much of a time-capsule something as simple as a doorbell could be.
I love how you take us through every individual piece. It not only makes this feel more authentic but I just love seeing the process of it all great work!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, when it comes to restorations my mechanics is the absolute highest standard there is. Keep up the amazing work 👍
This was such a beautiful restoration to watch, in all its relative simplicity. Your attention to detail, and the very finely tuned sense of balance between saving and scrapping... it's absolutely extraordinary. Love it.

Always a true pleasure to watch you bring things back from the dead to better than new as originally intended! Thank You MM!

you always impress me, my mechanics. not just with the restoration, but some of the clever contraptions you create for specific scenarios in each restoration. you are definitely the best i’ve ever seen do this.
Thanks for your support :-)
The Postman Rings Twice. You have abilities which the average person is unaware of. For those of us who can follow your work (jigs included) we are in awe of a true Master. Outstanding video!
The amount of tools, patience, skill, steadiness, talent and attention to detail never ceases to amaze me.
Thank you very much, much appreciated :-)
As a machinist from Canada, I absolutely love your work! It goes to show how important it is to make products out of high quality materials that can stand the test of time and that are able to be beautifully restored by skilled, intelligent individuals like yourself.
Not like a lot of garbage that's produced today. You wont see any 2020 doorbells being restored in over 100 years. I hope manufacturers get back to their roots and get away from cheap, mass produced, plastic, unserviceable junk.
Nice to hear that and thanks for your support 🙏🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
Yeah but compare the cost of a cheap plastic doorbell to the cost of one of these and you'll see why the market prefers the cheap stuff
In 1900 that simple piece of engineering was NOT so simple. Humans were amazing back then....and let s say they still are!
If we would still put this much time and effort for simplest of things, everything would be almost indestructible.
this simple piece of engineering is still delivering thousands of tattoos a day all over the world.
we've come a long way. Thank you very much :-)
The true artist isn't afraid to cover his best work to achieve the full restoration.
Thank you very much Jonas for all the kind words 😁

The patent was extremely interesting to read. A clever design for electric trams to be able to signal the driver that they are ready to depart. The driver puts the train into slow forward, but the circuit is broken by breakers in each car. The conductors of each car ensure they are ready to leave, and flip their switches. Only when all cars are ready to leave will the motors energize.
It's cool watching your shop grow with newer and nicer equipment now as opposed to 6 years ago. I cannot wait until I have mine up and going. I have seen many "restoration" videos but was never impressed until I found this channel in early 2019. No one else even came close to the time, research, and attention to detail that I found here! I truly can't say how much I look forward to an upload on this channel, no matter how long it takes!
Edit: grammar and spelling :P
Thanks for your support and your kind words :-)
The wait has been rewarded! As always immediately watched the video with the whole family, this is starting to become a tradition. Fun and incredibly detailed, very educational! Good luck with the preparations for the next video, we are looking forward to it.
Love your tradition, keep it up ;-)
I've been following you for a while at this point, and after watching a couple of other restoration channel videos I now realize how much you've spoiled me. I love how thorough you are, and how you share with us each problem and solution. Also, the way you lay out all the pieces before and after they are cleaned up makes for a very cohesive narrative. I never wince while watching you work, and no other restoration channel makes me literally drool, so 🌟
Wow, thank you
Yeah, no comparison. He never takes something that is destroyed and just sands it til it’s 0.125 the thickness and then just skips steps. Just good, unique, quality through and through.
Wonderful in so many ways. Thank you. I love your photography. Your soundscape is perfect. And you edited into such a cohesive story.
No Doubt, I am impressed of your work.

My pleasure, thanks for watching!
Same! Always want to make sure I have time to sit and watch start to finish, uninterrupted.
This is probably my favorite restoration. Finding the newspaper pieces was like opening a time capsule. Then when he added the paper denoting the year and restorer, it was like making a new time capsule. The only thing I would have done different would have been to put the old newspaper back in with my note.
This I would not do. I preferred the fact that he preserved the newspaper in perspex.
@@araucariapasquale1 I agree
I was too afraid to do that, because the old one was very brittle.
Love the fact that you made a mistake and kept it on camera to show us. Not many people can own up to it. Also goes to show that someone can be doing this almost their whole life and can still make them.
Your work is as meticulous and precise as a “ Swiss watch”. I’m absolutely spellbound by your restorations.
Nice to hear that, thank you :-)
This may sound funny, but this actually has to be my favorite restoration you've done so far. I know it's just a doorbell, but everything that went into it was just absolutely fascinating. Well done!

Way more detailed and craftsmanship than what I was expecting. Most restoration channels lack your attention to detail. Kudos. Also live the fact that you're not talking incessantly over the video. The work speaks for itself.
Sir. You are the master. Me, I would have taken a little sand paper and a tooth brush and been happy. But what you did is astonishing. Soldering the screw eye, I would have gone to the hardware store and gotten 2 off the shelf. And you have a tool for every task. It looks awesome. Keep up the "galactic" work. I am overly impressed.
Once again MM, you’ve outdone yourself. Incredible work as always. Thank you for your exquisite masterpieces
Simply superb - as a slightly OCD person, I thoroughly appreciate the absolute attention to detail - a real pleasure to watch!
Preserving those old pieces of newspaper in acrylic was very thoughtful... liked that very much! Impressive work, as usual! 👍

Oh Wow, even Red Dead showed up! To each of you, what's been your favourite thing you've restored? (Or specific watch, in terms of RedDead)
OMG...I thought the center core was wood when you started sanding! WOW! Beautiful work as always!
Iron tree.
Same here
100 years of rust
It's an electromagnet, so the core should be made of a ferromagnetic material (e.g. iron) to work. It would still be an electromagnet with a wooden core, but much weaker, probably won't be strong enough to pull the arm.
@@tamasporcsin3122 To be honest I didn’t know the magnet would need to be so powerful on this thing
Even small things get the spotlight. You founds your art. Thank you for enriching RUclips

Watching your restorations is like watching an artist painting a portrait... simply fascinating! Thank you for posting your wonderful videos!
My pleasure, thank you!
Nice to hear that, thank you very much :-)
A masterful restoration, My Mechanics has few if any equals.
Wow, thank you for sharing this story!
Thank you very much for your nice comment, really appreciated!
The frame, the coils, the armature, the spring... The lasting beauty of this design lives on in the majority of tattoo machines in use to this day.
Yep😁
