The great thing about these devices is that because they are not as mainstream as a Samsung or an iPhone, they get conceived as "less phone" for the money - which is great, because half a year after release, you get the Sony and LG flagships for a mere fraction of their starting price. This is just great - a flagship phone for less money and with some extra tricks up its sleeve (LG with the DAC, Sony with the 21:9 screen and the awesome Video Manual Modes. Thank you for this great review! The thing I appreciate the most about your style of review is your honesty and that you are not abord the mainstream train that just sh*ttalk these wonderful devices.
Werner J lg is just terrible with software updates, that’s the one thing that holds me back from getting a lg phone. Otherwise, I think they are pretty good.
Sony = Mercedes I'm still using the Xperia XZ Premium, and I'm getting 5+ hours of on screen time. I'm charging the phone every second night with battery care activated.
I'm actually seriously considering getting this. This is the first time I'm excited for a Sony after a loooooong time. And it all boils down to that camera. Finally.. they're getting there. Hopefully they'll get even better from here on. But I also wouldn't be surprised if they somehow fuck it up again with the follow up release. Nothing Sony does surprises me anymore. But at least for the Xperia 5 they got it right and I'm feeling hopeful
LOL that's some FAIR skepticism. GENERALLY we've seen progress from the XZ1 to the Xperia 5, but you're not wrong to be concerned there. You should check out my camera conclusion on the X1, HUGE progress, still a few rough spots, but I'm VERY happy with this direction they're taking.
I have the Xperia 5 I also owned the OP 7T and Huawei p30 this year. The 5 is just fine. This may be the best phone I owned by Sony. That said, I still feel they could do better for the camera in auto mode which most people use anyway (e.g. dynamic range is still lacking). In manual mode, I think it's one of the best android camera's hands down.
i totally agree my Xperia ZL i gave to my son and I'm using a XZs both still going strong unlike other manufacturers who's phone start to lose battery capacity in the first year plus one tiny fall and they're ruined.. Sony phones goes for years I'm looking forward in purchasing a xperia 5

@@user-zr4wh3lh5v yes you are so right :) i've been using Sony for quite some time and I nearly went with a OnePlus this time around but after seeing a TechRadar write up i was pretty much sold... @@Riffa22 very interesting. I have looked at OnePlus too. But I think it may be a little too big. The camera on the Sony would definitely be better too. The only thing I would not be sure of is the position of the fingerprint scanner on the side
Honestly, people underestimate how much of a difference Battery Care adds to the phone's longevity, I have an XA1 (a midranger from sony) and it's battery life is still very good for a phone that's 3 years old, with no signs of the battery deteriorating, like suddenly dying at 30%.
@@SomeGadgetGuy I feel as though Sony probably doesn't have to throttle cou for a few reasons. 1. Lower capacity batteries usually have higher Max power output. The reason companies were throttling cous was because the batteries overtime couldn't keep up with the required power out put they designed for. Meanwhile, Xperia's have a lot more room for degredation. So they won't have to cpu throttle. Then, as long as they can milk out longevity on the capacity side, they'll do just fine long term.
Dude, how are you near enough the only reputable reviewer that gives Sony an honest chance? Probably because you understand the importance of competition and the fact that they make solid phones 😳. Bit worrying that it isn't a Samsung though 😬
I am so happy I found this channel . Between you and Flossy Carter . I finally get the truth on how great these $600-$800 dollar phones are. I just got the LG G8X Dual Screen and man that phone is amazing.
Got the phone in the UK and got a free PS4 for a lot less than I would of paid for S10 Samsung or iPhone 11 the two phones I was looking at . They was about £10 a month more with the same data allowance and no PS4 and I'm very happy with the phone ! Definitely a sleeper phone that has gone under the radar of a lot of reviewers.
aaahhhh a felow Sony Misfit. Subscribed... and not just cause I'm the rare sony fanboy but because your review shined a light to the double standard Sony has been getting for so many years. Great review! PS- I have the 5 and definitely one of the best phones I've ever owned.
Sonys are among my favorite phones; they're the only ones I don't sell on after a year or two. Looking forward to the possibility of another Sony compact phone appearing in February, 2020!
Lol I just got the Xperia 1 so it'll be a while maybe before I go for compact unless I go all out for a smart watch . It was a delima to wait for the 5 or just get the one . 1 won .
As an owner of a XZ1 Compact, I can truly say that it's really hard for modern smartphones to stand out. I have nothing against notches or punchholes on the displays, or the fact that people don't admire one-handed usage anymore. But even after using mine for over a year, I still every time get that feeling of using something otherworldly in terms of design and form-factor. And I absolutely love it. #prayforsony
great phone. i picked mine up 5 weeks ago brand new, unlocked and unopened from a re-seller on eBay for £427.50 (i live in the UK). the upside to the lack of marketing and promotion with Sony phones is that you can get some real bargains online due to supposed lack of demand amongst the mainstream.
Oh ma gah I love that reflective back!! I've seen other reviewers with the red version that looks this good as well. And I love the creamy back and metallic chassis of the white version. Also, the Motorola One Vision is 21:9! Seems Sony paved the way and showed Android is capable of running 21:9 as well as the apps. And they showed it is a feasible aspect ratio. Nice review!
Sony was my first android smartphone since I finally changed my Nokia N78 to Xperia Acro S. Then I had Xperia Z1 compact and then untill now Xperia XZ. So it's time to buy a new one. When Xperia 1 was released I didn't even think about something else and decided to buy it next (this) year. But the problem was that I moved in Thailand and Sony stopped selling phones in this country and in my country it was unreasonably expensive compared to HK prices. So now all Sony phones in Thailand are selling unboxed from HK. Price now ~700$ 6/128. Sony didn't give me a chance to touch and buy it, I watched too much RUclips, I married, have a daughter and count every penny, so I decided to buy 1+7pro 8/256 for 530$. Good buy Sony, it's been a pleasure..
The more time the Lithium Ion battery spends in the 90+ and 10- extremes, the shorter its longevity is. That's because any battery chemistry is rated for a certain number of 0-100% cycles. And that cycle# doubles or triples at 20-80% cycles. That's why I loved the Sony Care. Cuz they care. As for the term you asked about, 9:30, it's called Maximum current charge speed (without heating up). Usually batteries that can take in 2Amp Max charge, are also capable of 2 to 5 Amp Output (for heavy CPU loads). But you sacrifice capacity. High discharge batteries don't store as much charge per volume as slower batteries. But again, there's always exceptions
The other reviewers just review according to brand. Wait till Samsung or Apple come with 21:9 aspect ratio. I bet it will be "revolutiinal" for the other reviewers. Nevermid, this phone is a solid piece and that is why I bought it 😊 Thanks for the review, Juan. And keep it up!
The only reason why Xperia phones are not for everyone is because they're not good enough like, say, iPhones or Galaxies. I'd compare Xperia phones with LG G series. Not any better than LG for sure!
Man, you hit the nail on the head when you called out the reviewers who seem to immediately shit on Sony's phones but give other comparable phones a complete pass. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on *why* the Sony phones seem to get such a negative bias when put up against their contemporaries.
great review as always, watching on my XZ3, and please loose the earrings, and yes, Sony has the best battery longevity ever, my 5 years old Z Ultra still has the same battery life as it was new and the battery was never replaced
CHARGING TIME WITH MY XPERIA 1 IS 90 MINUTES FROM 1% TO 96%. AND 100 MINUTES FROM 1% TO 99% BATTERY LEVEL. BEST MANUAL CAMERA ON SMARTPHONE EVER. @@Saphman4 since the budget model is Xperia 10, the phone's seem to be rated on a 1 to 10 scale with 1 being the best and 10 being the lowest end. Confusing? Hell yes.
Great review - currently used the xz1 compact which has been a joy for the past 2 years, always steered away from the 16:9 format, but am taking the plunge with this one, equally will be keeping the xz1 compact for rainy days. Top device.
I think it's rather amazing how Sony has changed their ways regarding manual controls over the recent years, I still remember how upset I used to get at my X2 back in the day due to how limited it was in the camera department.
Programmable rack focus!😍 I'm enjoying my OnePlus 7 Pro as a phone but I'm truly missing the charm and function I got from my previous V series phones when it comes to using manual control for video. Even in the pro mode the live view stops displaying changes after maybe 1/13 of a second and flash is completely disabled as well. LG and Sony seem to be the only manufacturers that care about that kind of stuff and I'm seriously considering going back to either one in the near future. Manual rack focus though. That's crazy. Excellent review.
So happy to see such positives on the Xperia 5. Ever since the xperia z3v I havent been able to use a sony phone due to my carrier. Glad to see the xperia 5 will be a great phone.
Yup. I can't REALLY blame people here for giving up on Sony after they walked away from the US, but this was a strong year for their unlocked offerings.
I also love sony phones !!! But luckily I think the xperia 5 is on the list of approved unlocked devices for use on verizon because I looked up the xperia 1 but that wasn't on there. Just the Experia 5 was! Thankfully verizon is accepting more and more unlocked devices onto their network
I’m enjoying my 5 now. I really liked my 1. The build quality was (similarly to 5) premium, great colors to choose from, amazing screen and a real powerhouse. The Sony Xperia 1 Style cover is ‘Touch’, which means you can use your phone through the cover; very cool! OTOH: the phone would get warm powering that delicious looking screen and it is pretty large. I thought I could get used to it but it wasn’t that easy to pocket it, so I was always making sure I have it on me. The 5 only has Sony Style View cover and that means you can just view notifications through the cover and it doesn’t respond to your touch. The 5 is great for me, but sometimes i do miss my 1 (entertainment, games) but it was kinda’ a hassle to look after. I really had to baby it at times
Awesome review as usual. I used a Nexus 5 for 5 years and it was notorious for having a bad battery. I nearly always wirelessly charged mine, so very slowly, and my battery held up quite well over the years.
My 2 best "Dumbphones" were a Sony Ericsson slider and an LG k30 flip phone. The Sony had the BEST stereo sound ever and the LG, well....just kept going. Excellent, informative review. Thank you.
My main issue for not trying Sony again is, I have previously owned Xperia ZR, Z1 Compact and Z3 Compact. They all suffered deadzone on touchscreen (Without dropping nor water damage). The price point is on par with flagships with more features while we rarely see discounts for Xperia phones. I bought a Mi A1 for $200 and no issues for the past 2 years, so, kinda harder to take risk at $500+ price point.
My iPhone dropped from 100% to 92% in like two months using almost exclusively wireless charging. Once I noticed and switched back to wire-only, it only dropped an additional 5% in the following 18 months. Glad I wasn't the only one with that experience.
I just picked up an Xperia 5 for £235 boxed and quite literally in new condition. Sweet upgrade to my aging xz for sure. Always liked the Sony handsets and this is my 3rd (first being the z). Native 21:9 content looks great. I couldn't resist it at that price and was so due an upgrade. Great for Android and emulated games too.
Thanks for this excellent and balanced review, truly, I am glad I found this video. Now I'm torn, haha, Xperia 5 vs S 10e. I miss the XZ compact form factor and I'm still running a Pixel 3.
I switched from "Galaxy S10e" back to my 3 years old "Xperia X Compact". A Sony with 5,5' and the same decent hardware like the Xperia 5 would be a shure buy for me. Well I must say I like Bluetooth Headphones, BUT a 3,5mm Jack would give it it that supreme Sony Walkman feel when on a long trip (flight/travel).
wireless charging does not affect the longevity of a battery when compared to wired charging.particularly with these sony phones the qnovo charging curve would protect and enchance the longevity of the life so there is no comparison. great review, just be aware of your facts.
I work at a mobile store and i have compared the xperia 1 display to samsung, iphone, google, lg and guess what..xperia 1 fucking blew them away. and the biggest complaint i had with other displays was the gradience. I watched a 4k video on youtube and when you see the blue sky on other brands, you see gradience. Obviously, sony also gives you the added benefit of 4k on youtube. although a lot of people may claim that 4k is not noticable on such small displays but it is. they just don't know it. on my older sony, i unlocked the bootloader and deleted the drm keys that made my phone not switch to 4k and use xreality and the sharpness dropped very noticably. i got my phone replaced for 33% of the price of the phone. that is how much noticable the 4k is
every buddy complain about sony mobile camera but I think sony gives you more natural and raw photos which you can edit your self as you like and other company's already apply lots of filters and then show the photos that's why you like other's company's camera and not sony mobile camera
Just FYI, there is terminology for comparing battery charge and discharge speed. A "C-rate" is used to indicate how fast a battery can charge or discharge. The C rate indicates how many times the capacity of the battery you're charging over 1 hour. That is, a 1C discharge rate means the battery would be discharged in 1 hour, while a 2C discharge rate would mean the battery is discharged in 30 minutes, or half the time. See this article for more information: batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/what_is_the_c_rate. So in your example, the Sony was charging at about 1C (charged from 0-50% in about 30 minutes) while the Asus was actually charging at a bit less than 1C (0-43% in 30 minutes). Batteries are rated like this since it's generally about the percentage capacity being charged or discharged rather than the absolute values. This includes things like damaging a battery by deep discharging (the battery doesn't care that it got down to 400mAh if its capacity is 1000mAh, but might care a lot if its capacity is 40,000mAh). Edit: forgot to say nice review!
sony probably doesnt send out free review units? Marques brownlee recommended the qc35 gen1 over sony wh-1000xm3. then he put the sonys in only because everybody told him to lol
That battery thing is on point . For me I'll exchange a hot temp during function for a slow charge and longer lasting phone . If I were about keeping up with the the Joneses I wouldn't have even thought about a Sony. Sony's electronics can offer a wide range of products and components and is a brand that totally understands what is good and better, but always allows for it's top of the line to be top of the line .It would only make sense for a company in the market of televisions, media, cameras, game units, sound systems, and so on to make a great product that combines all of them . Leaving out the whistles and bells of wireless charging and machine longevity and high quality would be something I'd expect from them. Along with a descent budget alternative.
It's the main point I'm trying to make with these reviews. Just because a brand isn't the most popular in sales, doesn't mean it isn't a competitive option for the right consumer. 🙂
@@user-zr4wh3lh5v actually a lot of phones do last . Most people just get those can't get the new Apple or Android updates or the newest cameras . Which is a bit silly since if you really want a good one get one separate and devote your time to the task or recreation and put the phone down . If it's a status thing most people aren't really "wearing" there phones like bling right now . Ergo price drops all over and more camera lenses . I had the Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra and it was a good phone for only a year but then it started restarting and doing ghosting in the screen. It only had 16 GB of built in memory so I had to watch what apps I installed since it wasn't enough internal memory. When I start it it has a grey screen with a triangle with a hammer and screwdriver in it. I messaged Sony and asked what it meant and never got a reply. It started opening and closing apps automatically, and it would freeze regularly. I respect your opinion but I am now with a Motorola one Hyper. My gf and I both actually had the same phone and had the same problems with our Sony phones. But the screen was very bright and detailed. But I will say great video and I feel you do alot of testing and work before making the video. Just wish my Sony didn't do the ghosting cause I feel they could all be great phones.
I don't have a Sony. But they do seem to have the best longevity, even greater than iPhone. The battery care technology also seems to make a big difference
I am still not convinced by fast charging. My feeling is that batteries are degrading faster. My devices usually charge over night. It can take 5 hours for that if it likes 😁
I totally agree mate! I have a pixel 2xl, and battery life (after android 10 update) has been more than amazing, I get 8 hours screen on time sometimes. The battery charging is 15w for 15 mins then 10.5w which is good for me because it's still fast charging but keeping the battery in good shape overtime.
Funny how pocketnow bashes this and the Xperia 1 by saying it has nothing unique compared to the competition. PSA: I just hit my one year owning the xperia xz2 premium. On sale for $999 during black friday 2018. Now it's $550-699. That being said.. My charging port will no longer take the type C charger the phone comes with. It acts as if something is blocking it from fully connecting to the phone. You would need to send in the phone to sony to get it replaced, because sony uses a Sony made charging port and Sony made charging type c charger. Won't work without these items. Also to repair the charging port, you would need to open up the phone, taking away it's IP68 rating. So $1k phone, built with a fualty charging port(others have had this issue and are not happy) and can only take that charging port. And if fixed you lose your ip rating. Not to thrilled with Sony because of this. Other than that the device has been my favorite that I've owned.. But if I can't charge it after a year of use..

Aside from that, I have loved every Xperia I have used and was really tempted to get a Xperia 5 when it got announced.
I got my Xperia Z3 years ago. After the first 2 happy months, it started having issues: - Touchscreen became much much less responsive (So many people had the same problem) -> main dealbreaker, unbearable - Signal reception was extremely bad compared to iPhone and Samsung -> silent dealbreaker Sony phones, newer generations, some also had the same touchscreen problem as there were many reports on their support forum Since then, I have never considered Sony phones anymore. my huawei mate 10 pro was able to get 12 hours of screen on time with normal 8 hours, i wish the 5 would get that i would love the 5 if that was the case also don't like the uneven bezels and curved display corners and only top speaker these are the things that keeps it from being absolutely perfect in my eyes, that and i would love wireless charging but it's not a big deal.

Yeah it looks really good
I absolutely want one of these new Xperias
Don't even care about wireless charging; I mean why would I want to do something that's slower?
I agree. Also having another electromagnetic field (next to all the Wifis and cell towers) in my home, I dont know if I really would want that.
yeah, but i am really missing the 3.5mm audio jack :/

@@billsandrew Battery care?
@@eszee I've been wirelessly charging my Galaxy S9 during the night when I sleep since I got it 11 months ago and I still only need to charge it every other night on most occasions. From what I see, it's not having a noticeable impact on battery health.
I got this phone just last week, and even though its early days, I'm already loving it.
It looks mighty impressive for the price. I think Sony are massively underrated
@@user-zr4wh3lh5v yes you are so right :) i've been using Sony for quite some time and I nearly went with a OnePlus this time around but after seeing a TechRadar write up i was pretty much sold... Cant say much about my last sony though, the X1A. It had a curled edge and the touch screen eventually went wrong, shame.
@@Riffa22 very interesting. I have looked at OnePlus too. But I think it may be a little too big. The camera on the Sony would definitely be better too. The only thing I would not be sure of is the position of the fingerprint scanner on the side
Another great review. There hasn't been many different reviews in last few weeks and you come through with great stuff
Nobody seems to be reviewing this phone
Honestly, people underestimate how much of a difference Battery Care adds to the phone's longevity, I have an XA1 (a midranger from sony) and it's battery life is still very good for a phone that's 3 years old, with no signs of the battery deteriorating, like suddenly dying at 30%.
It's a WAY better solution than CPU throttling.
Same for my Xperia XA1 Plus bro.. Bought in October 2017, still gives 1.5+ days of backup.
That's amazing
Dude, how are you near enough the only reputable reviewer that gives Sony an honest chance? Probably because you understand the importance of competition and the fact that they make solid phones 😳. Bit worrying that it isn't a Samsung though 😬
Competition is more fun right 😊
@@SomeGadgetGuy more fun and gives us better phones but that seems so hard for msyt's to comprehend 🙄
It looks awesome!
Sonys are among my favorite phones; they're the only ones I don't sell on after a year or two. Looking forward to the possibility of another Sony compact phone appearing in February, 2020!
They seem impressive
Lol I just got the Xperia 1 so it'll be a while maybe before I go for compact unless I go all out for a smart watch . It was a delima to wait for the 5 or just get the one . 1 won .
As an owner of a XZ1 Compact, I can truly say that it's really hard for modern smartphones to stand out. I have nothing against notches or punchholes on the displays, or the fact that people don't admire one-handed usage anymore. But even after using mine for over a year, I still every time get that feeling of using something otherworldly in terms of design and form-factor. And I absolutely love it. #prayforsony
I'm subscribed to you because you are actually reviewing the phone from a technical stand point then translating the meaning of each point. :)
great phone. i picked mine up 5 weeks ago brand new, unlocked and unopened from a re-seller on eBay for £427.50 (i live in the UK). the upside to the lack of marketing and promotion with Sony phones is that you can get some real bargains online due to supposed lack of demand amongst the mainstream.
LOL it's such a double edge sword. If Sony keeps improving like this, I want them to sell more, but then we know they won't drop in price as fast...
Yes they seem so underrated. This was going for 529 pounds on Black Friday. Compared to the competition at higher price, I think it's a very good deal
The only real reviewer
👍🙂
Good buy Sony, it's been a pleasure..
boy you're reading my mind theses days .
I like the way you think.
Yeah any money says your right. Good to see Sony trying to do something different. And it's priced very competitively too
Thank you Juan for laying the smack down on everyone else and dropping facts. It's so fk'n refreshing!
Sony xperia phonesshouldn't be for everyone. Like BENTLEY and Ferrari.
True
Exactly
Exclusive. I'm the only one at work with a Sony phone
The only reason why Xperia phones are not for everyone is because they're not good enough like, say, iPhones or Galaxies. I'd compare Xperia phones with LG G series. Not any better than LG for sure!
@@victorrumyantsev3718 Thats your opinion.
Man, you hit the nail on the head when you called out the reviewers who seem to immediately shit on Sony's phones but give other comparable phones a complete pass. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on *why* the Sony phones seem to get such a negative bias when put up against their contemporaries.
Simple. Sony doesn't pay them.
great review as always, watching on my XZ3, and please loose the earrings, and yes, Sony has the best battery longevity ever, my 5 years old Z Ultra still has the same battery life as it was new and the battery was never replaced

Great review - currently used the xz1 compact which has been a joy for the past 2 years, always steered away from the 16:9 format, but am taking the plunge with this one, equally will be keeping the xz1 compact for rainy days. Top device.
I watched your video about LG G7 before I bought my phone and I'm more than happy with my G7 now. :)
It's very hard to pick between the 1 and the 5, but at the end I prefer the 5 because 6.5" is far too big and 1080p is just about right.
Im in this dilemma right now.
@@jadehare Ended up buying a Xperia 1.

Thank you.

Right on. Just got the Xperia 10 plus and love it.
One of the few common sense tech RUclipsrs out there great video keep up the good work !!!
I stopped using an Xperia when Sony Mobile left my country's market, but now you are making me want one as my next phone lol.
Thanks for this excellent and balanced review, truly, I am glad I found this video.
Now I'm torn, haha, Xperia 5 vs S 10e. I miss the XZ compact form factor and I'm still running a Pixel 3.
It's a good problem to have 😁
I switched from "Galaxy S10e" back to my 3 years old "Xperia X Compact". A Sony with 5,5' and the same decent hardware like the Xperia 5 would be a shure buy for me. Well I must say I like Bluetooth Headphones, BUT a 3,5mm Jack would give it it that supreme Sony Walkman feel when on a long trip (flight/travel).
Another great, honest and savage video haha. Well done sir!
Juan's portrayal of many tech RUclipsrs' bias towards Sony couldn't be more accurate
I'm still using my xz1 compact after two years. Great small phone
wireless charging does not affect the longevity of a battery when compared to wired charging.particularly with these sony phones the qnovo charging curve would protect and enchance the longevity of the life so there is no comparison. great review, just be aware of your facts.
The most excellent of reviews! I have faith in humanity again.
Heaven forbid we just enjoy a phone which offers something a little different right?
I work at a mobile store and i have compared the xperia 1 display to samsung, iphone, google, lg and guess what..xperia 1 fucking blew them away. and the biggest complaint i had with other displays was the gradience. I watched a 4k video on youtube and when you see the blue sky on other brands, you see gradience. Obviously, sony also gives you the added benefit of 4k on youtube. although a lot of people may claim that 4k is not noticable on such small displays but it is. they just don't know it. on my older sony, i unlocked the bootloader and deleted the drm keys that made my phone not switch to 4k and use xreality and the sharpness dropped very noticably. i got my phone replaced for 33% of the price of the phone. that is how much noticable the 4k is
Awesome video.
BTW I've got an XZ1C too and I love it.
Great review again. I love the shape of the phones.
It's so clean. I love Sony design.
Hmmmmm. And I thought I wanted the 4xl. Wish I would of thought about this phone on Black Friday 😑
it was 800$ with free sony wireless earbuds(250$ and are arguably the best wireless earbuds on the market)
every buddy complain about sony mobile camera but I think sony gives you more natural and raw photos which you can edit your self as you like and other company's already apply lots of filters and then show the photos that's why you like other's company's camera and not sony mobile camera

Yes I would rather have a long lasting phone and nobody seems to excel in this area as much as Sony. There phones literally last many years
@@user-zr4wh3lh5v actually a lot of phones do last . Most people just get those can't get the new Apple or Android updates or the newest cameras . Which is a bit silly since if you really want a good one get one separate and devote your time to the task or recreation and put the phone down .

Watching on my xz2 🙋♂️

It's a great phone especially when you get £180 off from the carrier and a pair of £220 earphones thrown in.
Man. I wished this phone was cheaper in my country. I used to have a Z3+, and although Its battery died, the blocky design still looks better than my current Samsung.
So if you had to pick between the Sony Xperia 5 or the LG V50, which one would you choose?
Been playing with Xperia phones on and off, but not been able to stay with them for long. My only problem with Sony phones is their cellular reception and lack of Wi-Fi calling with T-Mobile. Aside from that, I have loved every Xperia I have used and was really tempted to get a Xperia 5 when it got announced.
I have this phone a few weeks...it's fantastic to be honest.
I got my Xperia Z3 years ago. After the first 2 happy months, it started having issues:
- Touchscreen became much much less responsive (So many people had the same problem) -> main dealbreaker, unbearable
- Signal reception was extremely bad compared to iPhone and Samsung -> silent dealbreaker
Sony phones, newer generations, some also had the same touchscreen problem as there were many reports on their support forum
Since then, I have never considered Sony phones anymore. I always buy iPhones and Samsung. They never let me down, at least
watching on my Xperia XA Ultra. 😍😍😍
my huawei mate 10 pro was able to get 12 hours of screen on time with normal 8 hours, i wish the 5 would get that i would love the 5 if that was the case also don't like the uneven bezels and curved display corners and only top speaker these are the things that keeps it from being absolutely perfect in my eyes, that and i would love wireless charging but it's not a big deal.
Sony phones have been always ahead of their competitors. Look at the Xperia Z. Lots of people complained when it was released in 2013 because it doesn't have any physical keys. Look at where all the Home buttons are at now guys. Owned the Xperia Z to Xperia XZ premium. But sadly Sony pulled out of local telcos from where I'm from :(
I'm holding my xz1 compact for as long as I can.
