Rekordbox Trick: Delete Tracks From Computer and Library
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 июл 2019
- I'm a long time user of Rekordbox and I always struggled with deleting tracks from my hard drive. There isn't a function in Rekordbox that let's you delete it from both your Library and hard drive at the same time.
When I had to clean my library in order to create some free space, I came across this trick that allows you to delete tracks more efficiently and effectively.
Let me know if this was helpful or if you have another way of cleaning up your library.

Or... the people at Pioneer would simply add a freaking checkbox to the "Remove from collection" modal popup that says: "remove from disk". But apparently they are unable to design such thing in the decades I'm using this software...
in serato there is a little short cut to do this. rekordbox sucks in this option totally...sad
Great workaround, thanks!
Why there is no built-in option for this is absolutely beyond me 🙈
BRO this saved me so much time and headaches. Thank you for sharing this simple yet genius tip.
Glad I could help!
Thanks man. I’m busy making big updates to my library for other reasons but this will help me speed up the process :)
Good to hear! Good luck!
Very smart, this is a fantastic workaround 👏🏼 thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
Yes! This has been doing my head in for absolutely ages!
Glad you can let it rest now, haha!
Very clever! No doubt the simplest and easiest way. Thanks!
Smart, the work around we needed.
Thank you! This is such a simple fix.
how do I get rid of the blue highlight cause my rekordbox sometimes highlights 10 songs and I cant get rid of it
Thank you so much for such a brilliant idea
October 2022 and the video is still helpful thanks a lot !!!
Too bad the guys from Rekordbox haven't fixed it yet haha!
Super slimme tip! Thank you!!!
Nice tip, I was thinking that after you tag in the comments and then go to the hard disk library and to delete them. When you come back to rekordbox, all you have to do is go to display missing files and delete what's now missing. 👍
Yes, that's basically the same as deleting them all from the library straight away :) Only step extra is you have to select all the tracks for Rekordbox to mark them as missing.
I did it and it worked, thank you. BTW: You should keep in mind though not to delete all the files that you edited that day. While I was going through my collection I edited some other tracks which I later also deleted accidentally. It wasn't a big problem because you can search for the songs in the bin; just a little inconvenience
You're welcome! Yeah, look closely to the edit time if you have been busy editing tracks in your normal library as well :) Good tip!
1:27 how to mark/select that many songs in one ? I deleting tracks one by one and it takes forever. Thanks ,)
When I select all of them and right click there is no option Show in Explorer (Finder), only if one track is selected.
neat trick, thank you
thank you!
Great tip! You save so much time to all of us!
Hallo Mitch is er ook een manier om opgenomen sets uit mijn Bibliothek te verwijderen?
Gets Wall-E
That's a really good work around amazing. I've got one hack that I used and before this method.
And that was to make playlist of all the songs i want to keep and export them to a USB stick.
Then after that delete my whole collection and re import the playlist of all the songs on wanting to keep and is a good way of making a backup to
Also a good workaround indeed, but then you have to re-import your whole library every time.

thanks for the info saved me a lot of time.
How would this work if i have tracks saved in multiple genre folders on my hard drive. Is there a work around to avoid having to check the most recent modified track in every folder????
Not that I know of unfortunately, this method works best for when all music is stored in the same folder.
Great Video you saved us so much time Thanks :)
Good job
HOW ABOUT IF I WANT TO DELETE TRACK DROM USB DRIVE?
Thank you.
genius! many thanks
Would this work with Rekordbox 6, if you are using the cloud services with dropbox?
I'm not sure, I don't use the cloud services. Let me know if you have tried this method and whether it worked or not.
Damn, this only works if you keep all your music in one folder at your PC?
Good idea using tags and date modified etc, it would be better if we added a comment 'delete track' then search for 'delete track' then remove all the ones it returns in search
nice one
i can not find them
Great tip - but I'm having trouble finding the recently edited file in Finder, since my rekordbox files in finder are all automatically placed in individual artist folders. Is there a way to easily find the whole batch of recently edited files, so I can delete them all in one go?
Oh I didn't know Rekordbox had settings that does that. This trick is mostly useful for situations where all your music is stored in one folder. I would recommend turning off that setting so you can easily delete tracks in the future. And for now deleting tracks one by one by clicking on 'show in finder' when you right click on a track in Rekordbox. Hope it helps a bit!
@@MitchdeKlein Thanks!
Hi, I have a similar situation. In the description where Mitch added a random note, you can enter 'aaaaaa'. Then drag your main folder from finder to iTunes. Right click on first row that has column names and enable "comments" column. Then click on "comments" to sort entire collection by comments and all the tracks on top with "aaaaa" comment are your to be deleted tracks. Just click first with aaaa, shift and click the last with aaaaa. Delete them all, popup appears to ask if you want to move the file to trash as well, just say yes.

GENIUS thank you!! genious
YOU ARE A GOD!! Thanks, I was despairing I would have to spend hours doing the shittiest part of DJing and you saved me mate.
Great to hear! You're welcome ;)
Thanks, man!
You're welcome!
Serato has ctrl+shift+del
Why don’t you RB?
how about the already deleted songs from rekordbox but not from the PC lol :') should i just do it again
hey Mitch, just wondered if you knew why, = when i delete the tracks, close rekordbox, then open rekordbox, rekordbox is RE Importing the tracks / files?
Hmm not sure. Is your USB still in your pc? Maybe it's syncing the files on the USB with the pc then. Don't know another thing that might cause this.
@@MitchdeKlein hey thanks for the reply,... just to say that im not synching to a USB. the files im deleting are from rekordbox collection. im deleting lots of unwanted files from collection. > close rekordbox > open rekordbox, then rekordbox starts the process of ' re adding the files '
hope this makes sense mate?
When I put all of my tracks I want to delete in a delete folder, then I edit them all but when I go to finder, none of the newly edited tracks appear in finder. What am I doing wrong?
This is awesome but I cannot delete them as I am not sure why the edited songs don't show up in my finder...? I go to latest modified date but RB file does not show...
Hmm that's weird. Are you sure you saved the edits on your tracks you want to delete?
@@MitchdeKlein Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I am using a Mac...?
How do I delete recordings
i'd love to know what the alternative is for PC! i was so hopeful when i found this video..
On PC you also have the 'Date Modified' option to sort your files from, right?
What if the tracks are in folders on harddisk ? Is there a way to see the tracks that have been edited ?
Thanks
Not sure about this. Have to try if those folders with edited items appear on top of editied/modified. I have al my music in one folder, so that's makes it easy for me.
Search folders for "mp3", "wav", etc. then sort by date modified
Check my other comment as a reply to a comment above, it solves your trouble.
On windows doin this doesn't bring up the newly edited files in the file menu (equivalent to finder on mac) so you cant use this overwise fool proof workaround. If anyone works out a way to this on pc please be sure to let us all no here, I surely will do If and when i manage to find out the answer
on windows type this in: "comments: xxxx" and replace xxxx with whatever comment you put in rekordbox
how cool is this!

Is there any Audioplayer or Jukebox Software which lets you DELETE actually playing file by a button press ? .... Would be a big help for sorting out the crap from the drive.
yes i am using winamp and there is a plugin that you can configure a hot keys (so when i push "-" it will delete it or "+" it will save it to specific folder. its very efficient i must say :)
@@stevush Do you actually have the name of this plugin ? Would be really nice .... Thanks ! :)
how do you select and highlight all tracks at once?? Instead of doing it one by one
select one and then CRTL + A or on mac CMD + A
Mitch de Klein thank you!
you're a genius
Beast!
Ctrl+A Shift+Del
very smart!
how can you select all the songs in the list , i couldnt
Select one and then CMD A (Mac) or CTRL A (Windows)
@@MitchdeKlein Thank you 🤙
I just updated my rekordbox and now while using Windows if you hold ctrl and click each track you can collectively group them and press delete, hope this helps someone. I was pulling my hair out over it haha
Does it delete them permanently from your hard drive?
@@MitchdeKlein Nope
I miss Serato... i have to sel my ddj 1000.
Very smart way to erase them all 🧿
intro track name please....
It's Mitch de Klein - Raptor :)

can you do a video on how to do it on windows?
I'm not on windows myself, but it should also edit the files, so you can sort them on 'modified date', right?
@@MitchdeKlein am not sure. I tried what you did on your video and nothing happened. kudos for the video
@@tony4love97 Hmm okay too bad, than I don't know. Unfortunately, I can't try this on Windows.
@@MitchdeKlein well! Thank you for solving the most biggest issue on RB!
@@MitchdeKlein Great rb trick, thanks. Works fine on windows too. Maybe user above hadn't added 'modified' column in windows search.
Very careful when you do this...the play count isn't always correct. I deleted some tunes I play a LOT...Luckily I had back ups
Great trick but unfortunately it only works when all your music is stalled in one folder on your hard disk..
Yes that’s true. I have it all in one folder, so for me this works really well. I do think rekordbox should come up with an option to delete it from the harddisk as well
I discovered a while back, put all your DJ Trax in one folder in your music folder. And have rekordbox, iTunes look at that folder for your music. Its so much easier to find trax in one folder, way more than letting iTunes organize them in (Albums-artist folder) Some of my friends make numerous folders by date, or genre. You don't need to do that! You have the dates and genre in the metadata on the files, and you can create playlists inside rekordbox for date or genre. So, I suggest, eliminate any confusion, by putting all your trax in ONE folder. Just my 2 cents! ;)
