    Congratulations on the video, Pulse. You saved me! When I needed to transfer the entire library from Mac to Win, I took days to create the points and hotkeys all over again.
    Thank God, I found this video just as I was able to buy my Mac, but I was already crying about having to do it all over again.
    I did the procedure yesterday and recognized absolutely EVERYTHING!
    Thank you very much and once again, congratulations Pulse!

    Great Video from 7 years ago, some updated may have had happened since then with rekordbox but the main concept of how to move database from one computer to another very very helpful as one of my laptop crashed so I wanted to make a smooth transfer from external hard drive to a new laptop and sync everything as it was on the old laptop and this video was very helpful. Thank you so much! Greatly appreciated

    One extra important note when going from Windows to Mac: The external drive needs to be formatted to FAT32 (NTFS is not recognized on Mac in Rekordbox)

    • @domenicocusumano
      @domenicocusumano 4 года назад

      I've had a problem where it says 0 files found. Is that because there it is in ExFat format?

    • @NeilMcElmon
      @NeilMcElmon 3 года назад +1

      This is a great point! Even working from one PC to another it's recommended to pre-format the transfer device to FAT32. I had a bunch of minor errors working on mine so I imagine it's just a good habit to get into from the start.

    • @MrZiadT

      HFS+ or otherwise MAC OS extended journaled may be better. It is supported and supposedly faster. The only set back is that this format can only be used on MAC and not on PC.

      Hi moved the database to my external LaCie HD,but I can’t see any Pioneer folder that I learnt when you have your database set on the local drive,it’s hidden in ~Library folder.
      Any solution to this?
      I’m currently hanging the “corrupted library” issue and I’m looking for solutions to eventually safely restore my collections and tags/playlists.

    How does this work, if you have - of course - multiple folders and subfolders?
    I can't just send my collection to a single new folder then obviously. Would i have to it folder by folder then?

      @Tom > Provided you move all the subfolders in the same way (eg. you move X:\Music\Folder1 and X:\Music\Folder2 to X:\NewMusic\Folder1 and X:\NewMusic\Folder2 -- they both have the same parent folder in both cases), they can all be relocated with ease. Otherwise you will have to relocate in batches, which is not impossible, just time consuming.

    This video saved my ass. I had a move my database from one user profile on mac os that had issues and was corrupt, and move it to another profile on the same mac. I tried to do it with the pioneer folder is Library and application support folders, but was not successful. your method worked like a charm using an external as an intermediary since you cannot use the move to move on the same internal drive.

    Hey Pulse, I followed all the steps in your video, but Rekordbox doesn't recognize all my songs. A lot are still missing/not relocated. Maybe it's because I got my music stored by genre in different folders.
    For example:
    Music/DJ Music/House
    Music/DJ Music/Hip Hop
    Etc.
    Do you got an sollution? Because now I lost more than half of my music and it will take me a lot of time to relocate every song manually.
    I hope to hear from you soon, because I have to play on saturday hehe :)
    Cheers,

      Re: the first message, if it doesn't recognize your songs, you either didn't follow the steps properly or the drive name / letter is different on the destination computer and thus didn't match up properly.
      Re: your second message, yes, everything should be gone from your original computer - you've moved the database (and possibly also the music) to an external drive or to the other computer. If you want to load them on the first one again, connect your external drive and open that database in the preferences.

    I'm going to make a recommendation on a faster fix to what I just went through over the last 8 hours or so.
    If you're transferring onto say a new computer and your music is in a ton of different folders on your old computer; after you export the database onto the external drive, hook it up to the new computer, copy and paste the PIONEER folder onto the drive you wish to use on the new computer. Then from inside of rekordbox pull the database from that location. Then plug the external drive back into the original computer and move the database from the drive back to it's original place. This will give you the database info on both of the computers. I rerouted the destinations on about 1,000 tracks before I realized I was undoing the routes of the other computer by doing it off of the one database.

    Thanks for creating this video! I've been putting this off for a long time, so you've motivated me to make the move. Do you know if it is possible to "Move Database" from an older version (3.0.3) of Rekordbox to newer one (4.5) on my new Mac? I couldn't find a "Move Database" option in Rekordbox 3.0.3, but I did find a "Backup Library" option under File > Library > Backup Library. Would this be the same? Or would I need to update to 3.3? I really want to avoid updating my whole Mac OS on my old Mac (I'm on 10.6.8 and happily stable) just to install Rekordbox version 4 as this is a big reason I bought a new computer anyway. Thanks a lot!

      If you're moving from 3.x to 4.x on a new computer, I'd recommend using the File > Library > Backup Library function, then on the new computer running 4.5, use File > Library > Restore Library and that will bring it all forward and updated. You may need to re-analyse in order to add key and updated waveforms, but the memory points and hot cues will remain.

    Hi! I was wondering if its neccesary to remove the tracks from the internal drive? I've tried reloading the tracks by only deleting one item off of the internal drive and then reloading, but then Rekordbox says it had only found that item and not the others which are still on the internal drive.

    • @DeejayPulse

      No - you can keep them internally if you want but have your database located externally, but to be honest, there isn't much point to that since the database isn't that large but your music files could certainly be.

    • @DeejayPulse
      @DeejayPulse 4 года назад +1

      No; the master database can't be played on the CDJ, you need to create an export database by exporting selected songs / playlists. The nice thing is if your music source is already a USB device, you don't need to physically export the songs themselves, the export database is created and the songs on that drive are linked within the database.

    If I want to move my account to another computer will I have it with all the settings etc that I've paid for ? Heard that you can only have a premium rekordbox account on one device so presuming I'd have to deactivate it on old computer and somehow transfer my premium account to new Mac. If you know anything about this would be really helpful rather than paying again.

    • @DeejayPulse

      @Stella > rekordbox can be installed on up to 2 computers with the same license. If you are no longer going to use the old computer, better to use the deactivation procedure on the old one first, then activate on the new one.
      The settings are retained per-computer (in terms of the in-application settings), but all your cue points, etc., can be transferred / moved or copied to another computer by using either the rekordbox database backup procedure, or by moving to an external drive as I outline in this video.

Going from PC to Mac: I've followed the instructions (moved files from PC to external, relocated missing files, then moved Database to external) but when I plug my external into my Mac, Rekordbox does not show a database to move. • @DeejayPulse
      @DeejayPulse 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, but you're better off having a database that you can keep updated between the two computers. As soon as you back it up on one machine and restore it on the other, you've split the database and can never merge the two.

      Ok I've done 80% of it but I'm struggling with the final step. Whenever I try to 're-locate' my music files, it only automatically recognises a very small percentage of them. Now on the rest of the songs, I go to relocate them but I have to do them individually. It does not give me the option to auto relocate. I believe it might have to do with the naming convention as for some reason the names of my music files in the new computer have numbers before them. Am I able to contact you directly? Thanks

    Rekordbox DJ on Multiple Macs with Nexus/DDJ RZ Setups & External Drive
    Hey Pulse.Until recently I've been using Rekordbox on my home Mac keeping my music in iTunes and exporting analysed files with Cue Points etc. to USB memory sticks for use with CDJ/DJM Nexus systems. I have recently acquired a DDJ RZ Controller with an additional MacBook Pro and external thunderbolt drive (MDOS formatted). This means I am now running Rekordbox DJ on 2 Macs (one with master iTunes Library were all my Rekordbox analysis &edits are done, and one portable for moving Rekorbox DJ around with my DDJ RZ).
    Clearly I have to move my Rekordbox data onto the external drive for use with the 2 systems. Please can you advise on the best procedure for doing this given the above scenario - suggestions on file structure on the external drive taking into account the DDJ RX Sample Files etc. would also be appreciated. Many thanks in advance for any advice you can give. Cheers, Sean

      +Sean Illumashroom > I would first move your iTunes music media location to that external drive, and be sure to tell iTunes you DO NOT want it to manage the music location! Next, open rekordbox and relocate (if any show as missing). Then, put the database on the external, as outlined in the video, and now you can move it between the two computers without issue.

      +Pulse Pioneer DJ Thanks for the reply. Am I right in thinking you are suggesting moving media file onto the external drive? This may be problematic for me as i's not just my DJ music, it's my entire collection! At the moment I'm saving my Rekordbox music and data to the external drive from the primary Mac with the iTunes library on (via Rekordbox File menu, with Database management set to the external drive), then moving it to my other Mac where Rekordbox is also set to Database management on the external drive. I then load the last backup from the external drive. Everything seems to work okay, but I've noticed that the music then appears in my iTunes media file (although not in iTunes itself). Am I setting myself up for a problem working like this? Please give me any advice you think is relevant. Cheers, Sean

    Hi Pulse. Another Q.
    I've recently cleaned up my rekordbox playlists and put unwanted/old tracks in a new playlist("UNWANTED") Retagged the info of these tracks(album_genre) so they are not in any playlist anymore(i use intelligent playlists).
    When syncing , does rekordbox remove these track from the playlists on the device and does rekordbox remove them from the device????
    if rekordbox doesnt remove them from the device , what is the best way to remove them from the device but still keeping these track on my computer in rekordbox???
    I couln'd find a usefull answer anywehere thats why i'm asking these here.
    Thanks in advance....

    • @DeejayPulse
      @DeejayPulse 7 лет назад

      If you exclude them from an intelligent playlist; yes, they will be excluded, but they will persist on the drive. If you want to remove them from your export drive, you'll need to find them and manually remove them - but that's as simple as sorting by the album genre and then tanking the "UNWANTED" tracks (from the export drive).

    • @DeejayPulse
      @DeejayPulse 7 лет назад

      Yeah, that's a problem with iTunes and how it manages the files / folders. Your best bet is to simply organize all of the music yourself, and either stop using iTunes or disable its ability to manage the music files for you. Once you move all your music into a consolidated location, go through rekordbox manually relocating everything. If you don't have many hot cues, loops, or memory points stored for those tracks, you may consider simply removing all the files from the collection and re-importing them once you've put them into their proper locations on your hard drive.

      The cue data can't be copied, but the key and comments are stored in the track metadata for most filetypes and can be read when imported to rekordbox. If you want to be able to keep playlists (folders) and migrate those into rekordbox, consider creating that playlist in rekordbox first, then drag the folder from VDJ over into the rekordbox window to that playlist - the drag-and-drop will save you the effort of re-creating playlists.

    Would be great if not only we could chose a disk, but also a disk location to store the db.. ie which folder. Also to have the option to move /sync associated music file changes, and to which root respective folder and automatically update the db paths.
    I built that manually with shell scripts but it all fell apart when the structure of the db's became different across os's. i think the notion of using a external HDD master is horrid, and high risk - but it is what it is. I'll back that up instead.

      Well, yes and no -- you need to import the music to rekordbox for analysis, so it needs to be done at least once. You could then export it to a USB drive (it can be the same USB drive as the source if you keep it stored externally), which could then be used as the source you play from. The downsides are you wouldn't have any songs marked as played (turn green), nor would they log to the history. If your external drive is not FAT32 or HFS+, it can't be used as an export drive, so it would only appear under the Explorer section.

    Good afternoon Pulse.
    I would like to take some doubts with you, if possible of course.
    Well I have a collection of 32 gb of music and I usually take all the songs on the USB stick, so I have a 256 GB flash drive. But I work with 2 computers, 1 faster computer at home and the notbook I use sometimes as MIDI and when I'm traveling use to work on songs. But I try to pass my HOT CUE and LOOP ACTIVOS from a playlist, which is not yet in the notbook for the notebook and I can not because when I put the pendrive in the notbook it copies the folder that it is not and it goes up all the work that I did it on the computer. Do you know of a way to spend just the folder I made on the computer for the notbook without having to back up the entire collection every time?
    And another question.
    Can I do what you said to put everything on the pendrive and not need to play back on the computer? So just use the pendrive and always work with it.
    I hope you understood what I asked.
    Thank you.

    • @DeejayPulse
      @DeejayPulse 7 лет назад +1

      You could either use the process above to create an external drive with your rekordbox databse, or, as of rekordbox 5, you can take an EXPORT database to another computer and manipulate it there (just like you would on a CDJ). When you return back to the original source computer, you import the changes back to the master database and then it's updated in both locations.

    • @clovisleitejunior6716
      @clovisleitejunior6716 7 лет назад

      Pulse thank you for the information.
      Last doubt. Can I leave this database on the pendrive, without having to go back to the computer? That is, I pass the database of my desktop computer and when I go to my notebook I do the manipulations directly on the pendrive, without having to send the whole database to the notebook and when I return to my desktop computer I also do the manipulations on the pendrive. So I always keep my changes to the database directly on the pendrive. Can I do it this way? Would not it have been too heavy for the CDJ to read my playback stripes?
      Thanks again.

    • @DeejayPulse
      @DeejayPulse 7 лет назад +1

      Yes - don't move it unnecessarily. If it's on the pendrive, it can stay there, moving from computer to computer.

      Pulse thank you very much for your help.
      I have one last doubt and I would like your help one more time. Well I already peeled the database to my pendrive. Now for I can play a CDJ with the pendrive I need to move my playlists through sync manager mode? Or the CDJ ja le the database that I moved to the pendrive.
      Because I now have my database on the pendrive and have already sync manager with my lists. That was my doubt. Do I do these jobs? Or just with the change of the database the CDJ already reads the playlists.
      Thank you very much and I believe these are my last doubts.

    • @DeejayPulse

      Your drive may not be showing up if it's not FAT32 or HFS+. Most drives formatted under Windows are either NTFS or exFAT, which is not supported (you can read music FROM them, but can't store a database on one). The purpose is to have a database you can move between computers, either for the purpose of always having a collection "in sync" on multiple machines, or simply to migrate from one computer to another.

      You have to export music from rekordbox to (preferably) another drive in order for that to work on a CDJ. Currently, export drives will not show in performance mode, only music located in your library can be loaded for performance mode.

    I migrated the data over as per video and when reviewing it again all of my hot cues, playlist had gone on both the external SSD and on Mac A. I tried to reload from external SSD and could not locate my original data from the Mac A transfer and didnt seem to transfer over to external B. My goal is to have external SSD as the main drive so i can switch between two macs.
    Im not sure what I did here... my only conclusion is that I must if activated some thing or changed something by accident... please help as hours of playlist and hotcue settings have disappeared !

    Is there any way to actually copy a database instead of moving it? So once I move the database to usb it is not on my computer anymore. If I lose the drive I am screwed.

      Yeah, use File > Library > Backup Library.
