Thanks greatly! I have some work to do! My desktop music library is a bit of a mess, including 1) multiple copies of songs, 2) loads of recordings from the original iTunes where "the original file could not be found" (Martin Luther King, Dylan Thomas, and Harry Potter among them!), 3) hundreds of Garageband songs I've recorded, and 4) record albums I downloaded into iTunes. 1) Is there any way to group the songs with missing data ("original file could not be found") together so they can all be deleted quickly? 2) Is there any way to consolidate the libraries from my laptop, desktop, iPhone, and iPad together -- assuming there is room? I guess I could use some tech therapy!
having just spent a couple of hours w tier 2 Apple Media support, i learned a lot more from this. Question: are there any 3rd party utils for Windows that simplify this? If not, any consultants who will go thru this procedure for a fee for a user, remotely?
Great class David, since I do not worry about space if I get an album I usually keep them all including the duplicates. Thanks for helping out if I wish/need to change that.
All my songs are on my harddrive, don't use cloud. Set up new computer (PC) and new phone. Don't know what happened (probably from importing library) but every single of my 5,000 songs are duplicated in my songs list in itunes. They are exactly the same song, same folder. Is there a fix for this? Thank you
Hi i thought great video of how to delete multiple duplicate songs as after using iTunes for years i installed Apple Music on my new Windows 11 PC & found it frustrating finding settings & options that had been easier previously, as i said loved your easy to follow video till i realised that i have no menu bar at top of screen with File, Edit etc as i had on ITunes, can you help me activate this or is this a Apple Music issue in Australia as in your video i can see it at top of your Apple Music screen. HELP.
Thanks for the video. The issue wth duplicates is that some of the duplicate songs you see are songs that are in playlists. Is there a way to know which song in the duplicates that are shown are the ones in your playlists? I do not want to delete a duplicated song from list that also is in one of my p[alylsts?
Wanted to say thank you like the others but share some specificity to you and other readers. Your methodology on how to do things for Music or Photos is by far superior in my opinion. Your methodologies aren’t difficult but can be time consuming when one has many songs and photos but well worth it. I spent many hours following and feel great that my songs and photos are organized. More though is the pleasure I’ve received by finding old mixtapes that I purchased many years ago that cannot be replicated by Apple Music or Spotify. Also, found so many old photos that I’ve been able to share with others and remember fantastic memories. I highly recommend your processes.
Thanks for the video. Does this same process work where the music is from cd collection and stored in iTunes. I have thousands of songs and at least half duplicated even up to 3 or 4 times .PLEASE PLEASE HELP 😂
Your video's are always so informative and a great resource for me. How do I update the cloud status after removing the duplicates? I removed the duplicates but I still see a number of tracts still showing a cloud status of duplicate? I did try going to Library > Update Cloud Library but the cloud status is still showing duplicate? Thanks once again for help!
I have duplicates on my Apple Music song list, but they link to the same file location. The only difference is that the meta information under the File tab in Apple Music shows a different "date added" and "date modified" ... I see no duplicate files from the source folder. What is going on?
Thanks David, but if i have the same track on 2 different albums, and would like to keep album integrity, is there a way to point the album to the non deleted track?
I have about 7GB worth of duplicate mp3 files on my Mac MUSIC app. How can I find out which mp3 tracks are on my playlists vs the duplicates that are not - and delete those?
I had a major issue with my mom’s MacBook Air with m1. Ever since Monterey was released in October of 2021. When Siri is activated on the log in screen it sounds like a metronome, this issue can also happen at random on the log in screen. I have called apple support they couldn’t fix the issue. Tried taking it to the apple store they said it was hardware related. Apple store shipped it to repair center. They said it wasn’t hardware related but software and could replicate the problem.
This solution to Apple's horrendous Music App would take me days to correct. I've got four versions of the same playlists on my iphone, duplicates on iMac.
I added over 3k of songs to my iTunes library. A LOT are dups, but when I select to show exact duplicates, only a few show up! When I sort the songs by Alpha order, you can see the dups, but for some reason, they don't show when I search for duplicates.... NO clue why.. I can visually see the duplicates, but the search shows only less than 15!!!
Is there any way to just like, delete the Music app entirely? I hate it. I hate every single facet about it. It's palpable, and I'd really prefer not to feel partial loathing towards a rather expensive technological device I use everyday. iTunes, while it had its issues, was at least acceptable, and most importantly, functional. Everything about this app is terrible, with a not-so-transparent agenda of getting you to buy things on the store. Even that aside, the UI is beyond unintuitive, there's no back button on searches (!!!) making a truly cumbersome experience regarding what should be a seamless and effortless action, and it does all kinds of weird technical things. Duplications are just the tip of the iceberg. And the kicker - any third-party headphones automatically opens up the music app periodically, and there's no way to stop it without having to get a third-party script-editor. While can just hear the response( well, Apple's not responsible for its functionality regarding third-party apps and products), the fact that Apple aggressively goes out of it's way to lower your QOL unless you are truly dedicated to the cult of Mac is indicative of an abusive relationship. Sorry for the rant, an answer to delete the app is very much desired.
Anyone else still using an ipod touch like me.. Anyways, my issue is duplications on my ipod itself. Lets say 10 tracks on an album..but I have 20 songs on that given album..with one song solid and usable..while the other one is the same exact song but greyed out. Super annyoing. This started happening a few days ago when I updated my ipod. Im hoping to do this video above soon..Hopefully it corrects everything.
I do not have the menu bar at the top of Apple Music that you show in the video. I used to use Itunes but POS Apple decided they are going to eliminate it. I using as PC with Windows 11, not a MAc. Wow I hate Apple.
My library has 42,000 songs, and each one has a duplicate. Is there an easy way to delete duplicates? I think I will have to erase my whole library and reload the songs from scratch
I hate this version of itunes (apple music)...I much prefer itunes 10.7. simple list view with art work on the left bottom corner. an arrow at the top bar which will takes you straight to the currently playing file. being able to drag and drop tracks straight form list view to playlists on left. playing a file direct from list view without the software opening up the artist name with multiple tracks from the artist. very annoying. The worst thing about the search function is when you enter a genre. it will not just move to that part of the list view. As a DJ this software is unusable.
Hi there, somehow I couldn't follow you. I have an HP laptop and not an apple, so do you have instructions for me to follow on my computer?
I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time. Very timely! Thank you.
You're so welcome!
I have 7,400 - manually selecting will take forever. How would I delete the lowest quality duplicates?
Thanks greatly! I have some work to do!

How do you prevent the duplicates from playing back to back when playing ann album then?

right click on the song, and click "show in playlist" and it will tell you every playlist it's in.
Dude this video was immensely helpful. Thank you so much.

is there an easy w do this on an iPhone? So far, short of deleting everything and resynching, I'm not finding anything useful.
Thanks, this has been of great help to finally get rid of duplicates...

This is a great video; I learned a lot of neat tricks. But how do I delete duplicates from my library and my computer?
I always learn from you David, thank you so much.

Awesome video...Thank you!
How do I delete duplicate names etc on my iPad v15?
This solution to Apple's horrendous Music App would take me days to correct. I've got four versions of the same playlists on my iphone, duplicates on iMac.
Great information!
I have this problem on my iPhone and it keep duplicated util it say my iPhone storage is gone... after I delete all my song
WTH? There is NO listing as SONG in my WMP. Is this for wmp in windows 10?
I can't duplicate find if you have put the iPhone inside song ...without Apple Music synchronised

My computer does not show duplicates but my phone does. What is the solution for that?
The main problem i have is that I cant delete songs from my ipod. I can from the library, but not my device. Any ideas ?

Why songs get duplicated?
Another problem I found, when the song ends, it plays the end of the song again.
It doesn't show me any duplicates , I delete them on my iPhone and after sync Duplicates shows up again , any idea ?
this is happening to me, too. It's syncing dupes of downloads once I update
Anyone else still using an ipod touch like me..

DADDDDDDYYYY
Good stuff, keep it up! We'd like to feature your music on our blog
Doesn't work for Windows OS, how unfortunate. Thanks Apple!
This is only helpful if you have Mac

WHY does Apple allow this to even happen! And, WHY is there no way to automate this process! I cannot do it manually I have 50k dublicates!
This is my exact issue as well. I have a bunch of duplicates. Deleting 1 by 1 will take forever.
Nice one, keep it up! We are a team of music producers - feel free to take a listen to our beats as well. Salute
