saw has a huge niche fanbase and keeping this coaster in the uk would definitely be a good thing. definitely wants a retrack though as it’s so uncomfortable these days 😵💫
I ike the fact that Saw the ride feels like its trying to destroy you as it fits the theme quite well but unfortantly it doesn't make it very re-rideable.
Honestly, I think they need to renew the licence, because it's a massive part of the ride and likely cheaper than retheming it, and either re-track it and leave the carts OR get new carts with lap-bars and focus less on the track. Regardless, I doubt it's going away because it's such an iconic coaster for Thorpe.
6:15 yeah except its not a kids theme park there is plenty close like chessington or paultons park i dont want saw to go anywhere i think it needs a retrack and a repaint on the whole area saw is my favourite coaster and would hurt to see it go given that it was my first thrill coaster
Yeah that’s a fair point, a retrack would be nice to see for this ride, if it got one it would be one of the best in the country for me. Thanks for watching 👍
Some good points but I genuinely don't mind a rough coaster like yeah I prefer it to be smooth but if you wanted the smoothest ride you would just ride a train
Leave Saw where it is!!! Fix the rattle and done! Tahr that ride away and what you got left? EVERYONE waiting to ride Hyperia or Stealth......... long day😑
I think that saw should be kept and the ride that should get removed is rumba rapids, its more of a lazy river than anything and at the start of this season i havent seen or heard it open at all. The plot of land it takes up would be perfect for a new ride., maybe a hybrid would suit that area and could look great on the skyline behind stealth.
Keep it and re-track it asap! It''s layout is unique even amongst GEF's with the indoor section. There's plenty of room at Thorpe to build new coasters. Keep iy horror themed whether IP or not.
(Sorry for the massive essay lmfao) With Thorpe Park removing the 'resort' from their name, this suggests that they don't have any plans to build any new accommodation, at least not in the near future. I also don't think removing Saw and replacing it with a kids area would be something Thorpe will do. Their target demographic is teenagers and young adults, and Chessington and Legoland are only down the road. I can't imagine removing a popular thrill coaster and plonking a kids area there will go down well with enthusiasts or the general public either. And yeah, like you said, removing both Saw and Colossus is completely out of the picture - they're good for eating up crowds, they're repainting and retracking Colossus, and also parks don't tend to just randomly remove two of their most iconic and popular coasters. I think if something really were to happen it would be a retheme, potentially with a whole new area. One thing that is significant that you didn't mention is how Saw now just feels homeless. When Old Town was still a thing it sort of semi-fit in with that area (with the coaster being themed to a saw mill and everything), but now with Hyperia it's in its own little bubble and looks a bit random. So yeah, I could see a retheme with a new area, including Samurai, happening which could also incorporate that path between the Colossus barrel rolls and where Saw Alive used to be. But in all likelihood I don't see it going anywhere or anything happening to it any time soon.
I don’t think it’s going away anytime soon. Probably will re-track. It is the most popular ride there - always has HUGE queues. The rattle is awful. Colossus is slightly rough but the pain doesn’t last. On my last ride on Saw, I didn’t bang my head but my body was jerked all over the place and I was left with a headache for 2 hours. I don’t know if it’s maintenance , the trains or the track. One train can be glass smooth but another is a torture device. I feel like they need to get B&M to make some new trains lol!
@@Billieharper-kz1eryeah I can see why, but I don’t think this was Thorpe’s decision. I’m pretty sure Mack Rides set the height restriction, and many of their coasters, like Icon at Blackpool, have 1.3m height restrictions, hence we see it again on Hyperia
few thoughts on your ideas for replacements: 1. It's not the right place for a hotel. Unless you somehow find space for a car park plus a pathway that doesn't cut through the park, you'll be lugging your luggage for ages to get there and wouldn't be able to check in while the park is closed (or if you lacked a ticket.) 2. I actually like the idea of more family rides at the park! It might be catering to thrill seekers but for families with both older and younger kids, not having to leave the little ones at home isn't just more convenient for them, it also means more ticket sales and more spending on food for the park. Plus, while a younger kid or grandma might not enjoy The Swarm, someone who's into the big rides can still find fun in a log flume or dark ride to break up the day a bit. I actually think a dark ride or indoor coaster would fit the plot very well if given a nice facade facing the lake. 3. I'm honestly kinda done wishing for an RMC at Thorpe. They're incredible rides that have pushed the industry forward, but other manufacturers have not only caught up, they've put those innovative elements on rides that are more comfortable and more reliable. Honestly, I think Hyperia fills a similar niche that an RMC hyper would without the troubles a complex wooden structure would bring on that site. If Thorpe were to get a new thrill coaster after hyperia, they need something without inversions and with more emphasis on traditional airtime to complement hyperia. A CGI to finally complete the loop between Stealth and Swarm is the obvious choice to me. If I had any say on that side of the park, I'd rip out Storm Surge and replace rumba with a new gen intamin rapids that has a few similar elements to SS. Saw, TWD and Colossus would also get the boot, opening up a massive plot of land for a log flume, Xtreme Spinning Coaster and multiple new flats, plus the aforementioned dark ride where Saw currently sits. Maybe switching the locations of the woodie and xtreme spinner would work better but building the GCI behind swarm first fixes the parks two biggest problems way quicker and spreads the two launch coasters out.
I love this ride but it is rlly rough I quite like the run down theming so I think all saw needs is a retrack bc it is a classic at the park and would upset pretty much everyone if it left
as much as enthusiasts don't tend to like saw, i think the theme is perfect for gp, alot of teenagers go to thorpe park and i think the added fear from not just a roller coaster but a classic horror film makes it the ride alot of them look to go on first, will be interesting to how it fairs against hyperia though
I feel like i’m one of the only people that actually really enjoys Saw. Ever since I first went to the park, it’s been one of my favourites, despite it being a fairly rough and generic coaster. I find that much like colossus, if you keep your head forward, it’s not too bad and i’ve always loved the indoor section. For me, i’d like Saw to stay
What would be amazing would be a mack extreme spinner in place of saw that intertwines with Hyperia and colossus, themed to Chronos or one of the demi gods like Odyseuss linking the 3 coasters together with a loose greek theme
I do think Thorpe Park shouldn't rely so much of IPs. I mean... that's how they ended up with their two worst attractions the ghost train and the black mirror maze. I also think walking dead is a downgrade from the rave coaster it used to be as the themeing on the ride itself feels tacky and the queue is the scariest part and making it scary probably puts off the wrong people since it's kinda low intensity. Oh what a coincidence... all three things I've mentioned are grouped together really nicely to form one decently sized plot of land.
Exactly. I 100% agree with you. I am making a video where I speak about this exact thing as well. Also attached to the back of that is the rotting corpse of the slammer, even more space wasted
I’d say try a middle seat in the front row, and once the restraint is down tightly, lean forward and push against the restraint with your shoulders, and try and keep your head as far forward as possible. This is how I tend to ride it, I hate headbangers too 👍
I ridden saw the ride last year with my Grandma 70 years old and for us it was silky smooth. Also don’t forget there is that indoor vertical drop and also the hidden inversion so saw the ride has still got quite a lot to it so don’t forget that any enthusiasts I feel like he brushed over that a little bit I just wanted to put that out there because saw the ride still has quite a lot to it as I said before and when I had my ride or rides it was silky smooth thank you
I doubt you will see any large projects for the foreseeable as Merlin have announced they are diverting funds now to its other parks outside the UK which tracks when you consider the money they have spent on their parks
The one thing stopping this idea is that samurai has been painted to fit in with saw. If they got rid of saw samurai would then be out of place and they would've wasted all of the money.
Thorpe used to never lack kiddie rides, 2008 where storm surge is, there were many that was themed to an underwater ocean hence why the dome and the megastore has an oceanic theme to it. I believe they should revive the area via removing said storm surge and bring back the children rides.

Hey great video! I must say I do love saw, but it could definitly have some new cars to make it somewhat smoother. Storm chaser would make a great episode- on why its the best family coaster.
Thank you I really appreciate it! I was definitely thinking of doing a video where I look at every family thrill coaster in the country and put them all against each other, I think that could be fun!

For Thorpe Park to truly move forward and have the future Merlin and Scott O'Neill are saying they want it to have, SAW has to go. I know right! And lots of people in the comments say retracking is the best idea, but they have no idea how expensive it is, and that it would basically be like buying a brand new coaster (at least most of one). Both colossus and saw are outdated and outmatched by almost everything there, and I really hope Thorpe realises it.
@@BackRowBlitz completely agree. The reason I'm giving colossus a bit more of a chance is that I feel like an awful lot of the problem with it could be fixed by replacing the trains, whereas SAW I think unfortunately the problem is simply the ride itself and that Gerstlauer thrill rides just aren't built to last
If they can do work on the track and remove the ip. Maybe theme it to the buckwheats to pay tribute to possibly the most well loved scare maze at thorpe.
