Andrew, this is the best fuel pump replacement tutorial on youtube! Replaced my 2003 jetta wagon 1.8t fuel pump. Thank you!

This is really helpful - I've got a mis-reading fuel level gauge on my 2002 Golf GT TDI and this was invaluable to know how to deal with replacing the pump/sender unit myself.
    Thank you.

What would a lift pump upgrade run for a 2002 Jetta wagon TDI? Parts and install time. Is there a video on how to do this upgrade?

Great video thank you any idea if there is an upgrade for a 1998 vw beetle Tdi lift pump? It doesn’t have one and I suspect there’s problems with fuel delivery the injector pump keeps loosing its prime. Thanks again

Is there any sort of check valve in the pump? I have a 2005 Golf TDI and if I start it everyday it pops right off. But if I let it sit a few days I have to crank it over for maybe 30 seconds before it catches.

Thanks for pointing out the arrow thing, but everything else was wrong.
First of all make sure you unplug the battery. (negative terminal)
I'll remove all the fuel from the tank and I'll also remove the Fuel Pump Relay.
Fill the tank up with exactly 7 Liters of fuel.
Go to VCDS and calibrate the fuel sender so it shows exactly 7 Liters of fuel in VCDS (the fuel indicator will be aligned with the red mark and fuel light will be on)
Then I'll start adding 0.25 liter increments of fuel and I'll check the fuel indicator.

Been running additives for a while for algae in mine. Does it break it down or just keep it from multiplying? I got a new sending unit on it’s way because I have power loss at higher rpm and my gauge goes from gas light to empty in a couple miles.

I just bought my 2005 Jetta TDI and I stopped to get the tank filled as I noticed in 200km the needle had not moved. According to repair shop the fuel module was replaced in July 2016 . I seem to have two arrows on the top of the pump? neither of which are pointing at the bolt hole

So I will be doing mine tomorrow. Problem is my tank was at halfway when my pump went out. Am I okay to replace my pump with half a tank on my jetta?

Probably but the last fuel that you have in there the better

Hi, is there any difference between the two pumps? The second one has the extra lump on your side of the electrical connector (i.e at 6:02). I have one without that extra 'lump' and wondered if that mattered.

Fun fact: the microbes in our diesel tanks, lines etc is because of government mandate that a certain percentage of automotive diesel is mixed with biodiesel. In California the pure diesel does not cause this issue, but is also died red so that law enforcement know you are in violation.
That's right, the government mandates equipment degredation.

Hi Andrew, although I do not have a TDI I do have 2005 VW Golf 2.0. I know the fuel pumps are different types between the TDI and Gas. My question is, other than the different style pump, isn't the changing of the fuel pump the same process on my car as the one you are working on in the video?

FYI I did this with a full tank and it was fine. Sure, the fuel was up to the brim, but so what. Same as handling a full glass of water. A steady hand and understanding of physics and you're good to go. Strength and grace of movement are why I do movement culture and calisthenics. Imagine your movements in your head before you do them and everything is perfect, like a model, gymnast or balerina. Of course all of that is out the window if you play around with alcohol because of it's effects on the cerebellum. Goodbye competent movement patterns!
Be careful, not financial advice or automotive advices either!

How in the hell did you just pull that black plug off so easy @2:16 marker? I have a 2010 beetle and changing the fuel pimp assembly. It did not take anytime to disconnect the 3 hoses inside the tank, but I can't get that frikin black plug off the top to save my frikin life!
PLEASE let me know the trick to it! I don't see anything to press down. Especially since I just broke a little black tab off the top of the plug! uuuhhhggg! Seriously it won't budge and I sure don't want to break anymore of it off so that it will not stay put after I get the new one in and finish the install!
    ANYONE? Please help!
The most simple part of the job has turned into my biggest headache! I feel stupid right now!
Can you please let me know if ya just pull on it until it comes off, or am I missing something you press to get it to release?
    THX!

Ome LMBO old reply but for others who see it. Just pulling doesn’t work on these. Many times pressing the unlock and pushing the connector down like your plugged it in and it will unsnap easily.
