I think it’d be neat if after hunting a set number of specific monsters in one locale, as well as maybe collecting all the Relic Records and getting all the camps set up, a Rainbow Spiribird spawns by one of the camps letting you max yourself out

Maybe after getting all the Relic Records there will be a quest spawn wherein it's about subjugation of 5 heavy hitting monsters to make the local wildlife return to normal. Afterwards the Rainbow birds now proc at the main camp. That way players have to get the records, explore and defeat the 5 monster quest.

I thought about something like that too. There is basicly no reason to explore the maps at all. I wish we at least could catch every bug, bird,, fish and rare endemic life to put in your room like in MHW.
People say spiribirds give you a reason to exlore the map, but in reality you just learn the same 2-3 spots that you run to if you feel like it and that's it.
Even something like collecting 1000 or 10000 spiribirds to unlock a rainbow one would be fine.

I would love for Master rank petalaces not to increase the amount of boost, least not by much, but rather they give a starting bonus, like you had already gathered spiribirds prior to a hunt. Depending on the petalace you use you get different starting bonuses, such as more attack on demon and more health on Absolute.

    • @kedolan4992
      @kedolan4992 2 года назад +9

They could just have the spiribirds give a lot more stats each. Like, instead of having 15 max attack, with each bird giving 2 attack, they could keep the same 15 max but have each bird give 5 points. That way you could either max out, or get a big stat boost with only a little bit of hunting for birds at the start of a quest, instead of having to spend 5-10 minutes to actually max out.

    • @codeinclined

I literally just started doing that a couple days ago too on a whim and absolutely love it. Cuts down the "let's run around the map for five minutes playing with the little birdies" part of a hunt SIGNIFICANTLY. With that dango skill you can get pretty close if not completely max out health / stamina just on your way to the monster if you take a permabuff-dense route. The tradeoff isn't even that bad if you factor in the fact that a lot of times people don't bother going out of their way to pick up the attack / defense ones, but now you can break even with what you would've gotten with another dango skill pretty quickly just by picking up a few of them.

And depending on the weapon, not having max stamina makes it feel unplayable. Insect glaive especially. Not to mention when you do an online quest and people join but don’t get any bonus stats and die immediately in one hit. Eating for Bird Caller (level 4 with hopping skewers and 100% chance with ticket) has made the Spiribird prep much, much easier, but Spiribirds as a whole are still one of my least favourite additions in Rise. I really do believe that a quest should have been given to add an Omnibird to your starting camp after a certain point, even if it's something that would have been taken away and added later for master rank.

    • @kedolan4992
      @kedolan4992 2 года назад +2

That's actually a really good idea, they could have it as a quest that requires you to do a lot of the quests in each difficulty tier (say 75%+ quest completion), and requires you to do a high danger multi-monster quest, and then unlocks a rainbow bird in the starting camp for that difficulty (so one for low rank, another for high rank, and the last for master rank). That way you have to have "beaten" the current tier, so to speak, and it allows you to skip the gathering as a reward.

I'm not particularly fond of the spiribird system despite thinking it was really cool at first.
If you could pop an Ancient Potion to fill up all the stats immediately, it'd be better but perhaps they should just introduce a new item? One that's quite expensive to craft but skips the spiribird gathering. In that case, Ancient Potion could just do it for health and stamina, not defense or attack.
It doesn't necessarily take too long to gather spiribirds when you know a good route per map but it's still 5-10 minutes just running around to gather stuff and that's a long time spent just catching up to stats you "should have had" in other MonHun games.

I'm with you on that. It was a neat system while I was still doing village quests in base game. In multiplayer, nobody bothers picking them up unless you're in Discord and your group is all on the same page. Any randos joining midway through a hunt face a dilemma. Should you leave the other hunters to fight the monster on their own while you run around the map or go help right away only to cart on the host's quest due to having low health / stamina? I hope this either gets reworked or removed entirely in the next game.

Yeah, I get what they were aiming for: put some of the gathering back into MH games, which seems to have been getting minimized more every game. And it's a lot of fun early on, when you don't have any resources, so you're going around gathering herbs/honey/etc anyway. But late game, when your item box is bursting with "stuff", it get tedious. You've already put in the time to play the resource gathering game, but you still get reset back to 0 every hunt. Stuff like ancient potions were that exact idea: you've spent time to gather these hard to obtain resources, so now you can benefit from them. Having it instead just be a Mega Potion+ essentially kind of cheapens it.

I won't mind if they're gone in the next game, but I want them to be replaced by a different mechanic that gives me a reason to do literally anything other than run at the monster and then fight it like it's Street Fighter. This is primarily because the Spiribirds also lead me towards Hunting Helpers that can give a further edge when hunting a monster. I try to set up crit paths to specifically find a Puppet Spider or Marionette Spider for an easy mount/knockdown. But other things like status toads or blight beetles, or even Lanternbugs/Aurortles for defense, make them useful side stops before a major throwdown with a monster begins.

First there is the bird caller dango which give a chance that any bird you collect counts double, if used at level 3 or 4 this effect will happen pretty frequently. I used this a lot for the early MR quest where I didn't really need specific dangos.
Secondly there is a lv 1 rampage deco that does the same thing, its one of the earliest you can make, also used this only in the early MR quest until more impactful rampage decos became available, but still a good use if you only have a lv1 rampage deco slot.
And finally there is the skill spiribirds call, which gives you a random spiribird that don't have at max yet(?) at regular intervalls while in combat. This one I am using now in Investigations, with the beginnings of my old routes to get a few on the way to the monster and then let the skill slowly max me while fighting. Early on there aren't many options for how the get that skill however, there is now a jewel(and its only a lv1 jewel at that!) for it but it requires tier 3 afflicted mats, so it only becomes available past AR 50. I did however get pretty lucky and one of my earlies rolls since the update gave my malzeno chest spiribirds call.
I would however still really love actual MR petalaces, if only for the fact that looking at my equipemnt window and seeing the red of Rare 7 gear makes me twitch a bit, same with the Kinsects (but at least those Rare 7 ones we only got with Sunbreak.) I don't even want higher max stats on new petalaces, just make the gain per bird bigger.

I like the system mostly because it gives you something to do while going from camp to get to the monster, while not making it *so* necessary as to be a huge handicap. Usually on my way to the monster I end up getting between a quarter and half of my stats anyway, and taking a slight detour to grab the rest after it runs is fine by me. Plus it means I don't need to grind the materials for ancient potions every run. I can definitely see why people would want it to be sped up, though.

Not particularly. Thankfully thus far, having decent gear means you don't get one-shot even with the bare minimum of post-food HP, and with a few exceptions like Switch Axe the stamina isn't too big of a deal. Plus if it *is* a big deal then just, grab the birds. On most maps there's at least a reasonable line of buffs (and hunter helpers!) between a camp and the monster.

i love that you actually have to navigate the map to find spiritbirds and hunting helpers. in older games, you had to prepare hunts in town, by farming, navigating menus, setting up your inventory. In Rise, you prepare for the hunt WITHIN the map, by flying around with wirebugs. its fun trying to find the most optimal routes. Its fun using marionette spiders and blightbeetles as powerups. if there were no hunting helpers, picking up spiritbirds would feel like work. if there were no spiritbirds, it wouldnt be time efficient to pick up hunting helpers. they put a lot of effort into designing the maps and making them fun to fly around on, so its a good thing theres a reason to explore them.

I dislike the petalace/spiribird system. I think it's just bad design when attack relies on it. Petalaces themselves as just another piece of gear that only affects Attack/Defense/HP/Stamina limits is interesting, but it's part of the number bloat in Rise which I think made it more difficult to produce a balanced and compelling game, resulting in a game that is... less balanced and compelling.

  • @chipslight738

Spirit Bird is a slog we didn't have in previous games, simple as that. In previous games, you ate your food, got into the quest, found the monster and that's it, you started the hunt. Now, you have to either decide to gimp yourself slightly or you decide to waste 2 minutes on the start of the quest with no engaging gameplay to get some extra stat boosts. I don't think we needed that nor is it an engaging mechanic. My case in point is that the devs recognized that as well, otherwise, none of the arena quests or unique Elder Dragon fights (The Serpents/Gaismagorm) would have a Rainbow Bird that immediately maxes everything out because they want you to get as much extra stats as possible.
It's not as tedious as previous mechanics in the series (looking at you, tenderizing clutch claw) but I would feel like I've lost nothing if it doesn't come back in the next game.
And to the argument of "it incentivizes to explore the map and familiarize with it" I don't really need to ? I have a mini-map that tells me where the monsters are and where they are going, if I really wanted to explore it more, I would use the mode built for that : field exploration.

i like the spiribird hunting before quests since it encourages exploration but needing to do it every time is tedious, especially when those extra health defense and stamina buffs usually save you in a life or death situation. A petalace that has lower base stats but automatically generates spiribirds could be cool. Or even a spiribird whistle/kinsect/palamute skill that brings the birds to you.

  • @HanDaimond

Not a fan of either mechanic.
Spiribirds are there to waste time and do more exploration rather than going straight to the monster, Capcom knew how short lived the hunts can be so they've nerfed max potions and other items to incentivize players to get spiribirds before taking on monsters, ended up being an annoyance.
The petalaces bring nothing to the game, everyone's using Demon petalace anyway, I don't see the point of having more options if there's two obvious ones for hunt efficiency.

I don't see many people talk about the hunting helpers for Rise being connected to the birds. IMO what off sets the time spent gathering the birds (especially if you know a fast route and are good at it) is that usually the good hunting helpers on the map are among those routes and if you get them every time you can cut minutes off of your hunt by using them properly making the whole fight faster overall in the end which is great for farming in my experience. I think the mechanics are meant to be connected to each other.

Yeah I think most who are carting until failure are learning to get birds. Some hunters know how to dodge but others use defense jewels and other protections. I run the furious rajang set and stay in red scroll for most of the fight until I've picked up enough birds naturally following the monster throughout the map. And Ive farmed for afflicted shells and other afflicted monsters for antique machina weapons so I had to figure out how to hurry up and get in and out. Furious Rajang armor set seems to go perfect with elemental dual blades. Eating for a super recovery dango level 4 means you have infinite passive healing. I have an element for each and hop in without worrying about birds. I take my Armor and demon powder, seeds and skin and drugs while running in on a palamute and thats all I need. I think the biggest thing Ive noticed that speeds up runs is elemental damage.

I have a path I follow on most the maps that bring me 5 health birds or so just to make me a lot harder to combo all the way to death.
But yeah the birds take a bit to much time at the start of each quest.
And capcom must have realised that they were anoying to gather as well as they added 1 armor skill, 1 rampage skill, and one foodbuff. All to make them faster to get, but they are not effective enough or all that easy to fit in, just to get rid of a slight annoyance.
I feel the system would work a lot better if they werent so out of the way, or if you needed less of them for the max benefit. Or another thing that could be neat would be having to just find them once per map, and once you had collected them all you started with a rainbow bird in camp. Or they gave you some of them from the start so you didnt start each quest from zero.

Hmm, the way I view it is , the spirit birds are almost similar to a difficulty setting. Collect none for a harder hunt, or collect a few for a normal one, or collect all (max out) for an easier hunt.
So for those who say the game is too easy, they can hunt without them, and for those who are learning new weapons, testing builds and still trying to figure out the hunts, can collect and max to make it more manageable.
So, I appreciate the spirit birds as they add variety in difficulty as desired for each Hunter.

I'd be happier if this mechanic never came back in a future title, or if it did they could make it less annoying. I'd do it by making each bird raise all stats by a percentage, say 5 or 10 percent, requiring fewer birds to max out and giving each bird a larger effect on your overall stat spread, this would make it less micromanagey all around.

I like the spirit bird system. For each map I like to make a route where I gather some endemic life and some birds while either omw to a monsters starting zone or until the online randoms join-in on the the hunt. The rout normally focuses on hp or atk. I still get the other birds but I don't focus on them.
The system could be improved as there are very few skills that interact with spirit birds, spirit bird calling is by far the best as your stats naturally increase over the course of the hunt.

Spiribirds just end up making me try to find the best paths through maps so I can get the most stats in the least time. In base MHR, all the maps except Lava Caverns had a path that would let you get half or more of the rank 7 petalace bonuses in about a minute or two of running (Lava Caverns has one that's sort of there, but you have to travel to subcamp 1 and there's a bit more running). I've found one in Jungle that takes about 2 minutes and usually gets 10+ attack and 50+ health (depending on what pops out of bushes) on absolute petalace, but I haven't found one on Citadel yet that's efficient.

Yeah... The Spiribirds got insanely old really, and I mean REALLY fast. I just haven't bothered collecting them anymore and just have Garangolm's "Spiribird Call" so I'll just get them while I'm hunting.
I can't even say it's a good mechanic. It's just padding. It just makes hunts last a LITTLE longer than normal, but by doing it in the worst way possible. A good alternative/buff they SHOULD do to spiribirds in Master Rank is have it so that when you get to a certain MR (or whatever other pre-requisite). There will be an optional mission that gives you a special Dango that is just a Rainbow-Bird's effects. But make it so it's like a 10% activation rate. So even if you use a Dango Ticket it'll still only be a 50/50 on whether or not you have to go hunting for birds.
Also what sucks is that there are some attacks at later MR's that if you get hit by you just die if you didnt get any spirit birds on the way to the fight. It's just another one of those mechanics in Rise that felt good at first, but I got bored of very quickly.
The other one is Wyvern Riding tbh, just let me mount the monster, topple it, and be on my way. I turned off the "Hit the monster to mount it" option the MOMENT Sunbreak came out. I just don't think its as fun or engaging as the older stuff.

There's areas such as the volcano that allow you to pick up a ton of birds of certain routes and then there's ones like the shrine ruines where they are much more spread apart. So an Absolute Petalace + and Underworld Petalace + that give you the exact same stats to start and at max, but you only need to pick up half the spiribirds in order to reach max power. This would simply reduce the amount of time hunters spend running around the map each and every hunt.

Since you basically waste about 5 minutes of your hunt to collect the spiritbirds just to make your a bit comfier, i would like them to add a rainbow one or a bigger one for each colour that max out the stat on every map. It can be a bit hidden, so you still have to go out of your way, but it doesn't take 5 minutes and the risk to get kick out of the quest in multiplayer. That happend way to often to me. An alternative would be making the ancient potion to a rainbow spiritbird, since it feels like the most useless item in rise.

I absolutely loath the spiribird mechanic for all the reasons you listed. It would be one thing to deal with it in single player but when you join a random hunt in multiplayer you feel like you have to rush to the boss and just start helping, even though you're not going to be optimal. It just feels bad and takes away the focus of the hunt and I say this as someone who misses the more prep-oriented requirements of past titles. It's one thing to set out to gather with intent, but when you make me do it during a hunt, that sucks.

I'm not a fan of the spiribird mechanic at all. I use it and I slot in spiritbird caller when I can, but I would like to see a skill that has 5 tiers 1>" slightly increases effects of spiritbirds." To 5> "grabbing a single spiritbird of each type will max out all spiritbird buffs until faint(at which point you will have to grab them again)"

I think of collecting spirebirds and endemic life as another layer of preparing prior to hunting the Monsters. Life crafting gear and eating etc

I run Spiribird Caller specifically so that I don't have to collect a full complement of Spiribirds every hunt.
I make a route that takes me to the Hunting Helpers I wanna have, and just pick up whatever Spiribirds are along the way. Any stats I'm still missing will get filled up by Spiribird Caller over time while I'm fighting the monster.

the only aspect i like about the spiribird system is that it promotes exploration of the maps

I'm mostly neutral to the Spiribird system. As someone who plays solo most of the time I don't mind going out of my way to gather some Spiribirds if the route i take gets me a majority of the buffs. Spiribird's Call, the Spiribird Doubled rampage skill, or Dango Bird Caller can really help decrease the gather time.
