    In fairness to the devs, this time around they finally decided to put all the information in the game for us with a nice spreadsheet style. It's the simplest it's ever been to know how to get parts.

      @@Chronostra it's more so that cap/kill adds chances for those drops aside from the part break

      Only 2 problems:
      First, they went backwards & ditched the part where they show "breakable parts",
      second, the chances shown in the table are incorrect.
      If you add everything together you get over 100%.
      I can't remember which monster it was, but I added the shiny drop rates together & got 153%. By that logic the 1% for a gem is actually a 0,6%. Just as an examble.

    • @kingofflames738
      @kingofflames738 3 года назад +72

      @@Smexbi that's always how materials worked. There were always materials that had 50% 60% and 33% on the same Monster. It's just percentage for only the one material. Basically a 20% reward means in 1 out of 5 hunts you will probably get it once. The 50% reward you'll get once in two hunts and the 60% hunt has a high chance of appearing on the first hunt.

    • @Floesinator
      @Floesinator 3 года назад +8

      @@Smexbi You can see what parts can be broken in item details (the little list you get when you select an item). Look at all the items and under break rewards you can see which parts can be broken. It is a bit more round-a-bout but it saves you a trip to the wiki's.
      Additionally my hypothesis, and keep in mind it is just that, for the 100+% is that is because they factor in different shiny drop methods (so a natural roaming around drop can't be X or Y but a knock over shiny drop can be). The reason I think this is that under certain items when you look at the details of the item you see shiny drop listed twice with different percentages.

One you had to watch for the limp or have the skill equipped to tell and I think they had the idea that holding back and watching for that ideal moment was a challenge to be rewarded rather then just going ham for those last few moments dealing as much damage as possible to kill it. Like the cut off was closer so you had to be more cautious and finesse the hunt to be able to capture.

    Good to know from a new player perspective. It took me a while to discover the stat pages for monsters and I've only recently hit rank 5 quests for the village. From seeing streamed multiplayer, it looks a bit chaotic with everything going on so it seems easy to forget to check if the target is low and miss the opportunity to capture.
    I also felt like it was more about the difficulty in the trap positioning, requiring consumable resources, and getting the monster to fall for them in the first place. Looking back on it, plopping a trap in its face and dumping a quick two tranq bombs has gotten really easy. It makes me wonder how hard it was in previous entries. I was killing off the early tier of monsters and didn't know if it was more preferable to capture. I've even fumbled an opportunity once and had to employ both traps to bag a monster.
    I can't help but feel with as much of an entire wiki for the game being built in that they could have had capture quests at lower ranks. I'm seeing the very first cap quest at the rank 5 quests. They could have also had an entry in the Hunter Notes that would specifically point out that some materials could only be available from carving and capture...unless I missed it in the sea of notes.

The first two lines will be the quest rewards, usually a line full of monster parts, and then the second line full of generic "stuff" like ore/bones/armor spheres, etc. The next section will either be the break or capture section, I don't remember the order on these. It'll list each break that gave you a part (broke monsters horn, got this item, broke claw, got this item, etc). The next section will be the other one, like for the capture: this section is the ONLY part that would be changed from doing a capture vs killing, everything else will be exactly the same, aside from the RNG of course. After that will be the stuff your buddies gathered/looted.

    My solution to prevent online misunderstandings is to solo the entire game

  • @hosinw
    @hosinw 3 года назад +3

    I think the main issue is lacking communication, and a universally translated message for either "lets kill" or "lets cap" would help in this regard.
    If I had to guess, people cap to end quests quicker usually. I started in Tri and I remember having much better results capturing as opposed to killing when trying to get the gem/rarest item etc.( I believe these rare items were not able to be carved in most cases). Also, back then traps and tranqs were not as easily come by they are now so it was a serious expenditure that equated directly to resource building and therefore time (I am *not* asking for this back).
    I also remember the change allowing for one to carve those same items off the monster. Ever since this change I have advocated for "eh kill it". Each carve has the same static 1-3% chance. To my knowledge there weren't items that only capturing would produce if parts are broken, correct me if I am wrong. I rarely suggest capping except for those times where capping reduced the pool of other items along with increasing the chance of the rare item.
    In short: my advice at current is "eh break the part and kill, cause you carve rare item and break rewards work well enough" That said if we join a quest we should try to communicate before deciding how the quest ends for all players since it can have impact.

    I don't know if you covered it in your video but every item mentioned can still be received as a broken part reward. So you can actually capture everything and still receive these items. Whether efficient or not depends on the person. But I have personally tested it and can assure all of you reading this comment they can be obtained as long as the correct part is broken.

      Thank you for mentioning this, I love gaijin but through not addressing this in the video he makes capturing look much worse than it is. If you want a specific part you have the best odds from breaking that part, and carving rewards give you a tiny extra chance of getting them, while capturing doesnt. Theres no part you "can't" get just because you captured, though!

    I tend to mix it up, but the only time I know i would capture something regardless, is if I'm down to my last life.

    Thank you. I really hope word gets around about this. I usually only hunt with randos when I'm bored and just want to help out, but I still find it ridiculously boring that every hunt just defaults to a capture. I've definitely been robbed of drops in previous games due to people insisting on "capturing is better" too. It's completely understandable if the hunt is getting ugly, or if someone needs that certain rare drop, but I get the feeling most just do it because it's faster and easier. It's like a forced speedrun strat or something. People just need to be better about the context of the hunt.

      Used to be the case even in gen / gen u. To be fair, sometimes trying to slay the monster instead makes it more of a hassle since now they’re a lot more vicious when near death.

      I see it like this, if there is only a 1% chance to get from carves and you get a higher chance by breaking them, I rather break the part and then capture. Also, if you are farming. Don’t do it with 3 or 4 people, resistances goes through the roof. That’s one problem I had in Iceborne.

      @@Noltar Yeah except world is the only game where that works in literally every other MH game the drop tables for cap and slay are different.

    Big thanks. I'm so used to capturing rewarding more stuff. ESPECIALLY if they have a Plate or Ruby.
    This explains why I have so few Rathian spikes.

    After mentioning it. I kinda miss the fight the monster in the arena quests after a capture. They were so fun.
