Great video. So helpful.
Where can I find those?
Every RV Slideout has this Problem... 🔥 Can't Believe there hasn't been a Class Action Suit against this Design Defect
Ya they know about it but dont care, pump them out cheap...

Hey, yeah! That's a good idea! Why aren't we doing that? Insurance is useless, too, saying it's owner maintenance neglect, or whatever. 🙄
I bought my rv 2 years ago used and it only had been camped in 4 times. When I got home weeks later I found the Rita foot in on both side of slide out.
Thanks for a great video! We just discovered this issue with our RV, floor on both ends of slide water damage. Now having to replace most of the flooring. You live and learn!
Mines is a 1999 Jamboree GT. I'm having a leak problem as well. Have not pinpoint the exact leak areas yet. But it wets my carpet at times when it rains heavily. This video gives me another view of where else to look for leak areas. Great video..
I love at home diy videos like this where it’s honest review and not some scripted sales pitch these videos help out the average fixer upper to get a job done... thanks for the tips
Thanks for watching and commenting, glad it helped.
"Yeah? Houdini did do it." Coolest man on the planet. Lol
Much better instructions then the ski manufacturer supplied!
Thanks for watching, we thought the same thing so we made this video.
Thank you I’ll be copying exactly what you just did Meinzer 1989 with 43,000 miles just put a new roof on it last year myself and now this is my next project thanks again
Glad it helped, thanks for watching
I’m so appreciative of this video! Thank you so much!
You just saved my RV. Thank you!
This is the exact issue we are having (after also having leaks due to ripped slide out rubber seals. Now the question is do we have enough damage to replace the whole slide out floor!!!
Very well done thank you for sharing
Excellent video. I usually replace screws that were removed and dip the new ones in the ProFlex to try and seal against water intrusion on the screw threads. Almost every screw I've removed shows signs of corrosion.
Great tips, thanks for watching!
Could you provide a link to proflex as I do not know what it is?
Great overview!
Perfect timing on this well done video! I have to do this exact thing on ours and your video and list of products was absolutely perfect and extremely helpful. Thanks so much for your help and guidance.
Ours already had the slide skis installed but one cracked and water got in, great video, thanks Larry
This video was so much more helpful than the manufactures video! Thank you!
Youre welcome, glad it helped.
Great video! Your method with the skis is way easier than what I was fixing to do. Thankful I found this video!
Glad it helped
Had a screw come out of the metal bar when slide was in, when went to pit slide out screw caught the ski and ripped it off. So be sure and look to make sure nothing is in the path. Got to say, best video yet on replacement of ski .... thank you!
Youre welcome, thanks for watching!
Doing mine this weekend. Video is very helpful. Thanks.
Glad it helped
Great video thanks
Great Video! Thanks a lot, another tip you might give people is that if you do a quick line across the trim & sidewall at each screw location before you remove it, you can easily line it up when you go to put the trim back on. less guesswork.
Good tip
GREAT HELP
Glad it helped
Great video! Very detailed bought these very slide out skis and will watch this video several more time before installing them. Excellent work.
Thank you Sir, glad we can help. Good luck on your install.
thanks man!
My fabric under the slide is wearing out. I'm going to do this repair and your video is better than the manufacturers.
That was my feeling as well, the manufactures video was not very clear so I decided to do this step by step so people can see how it goes in, glad it helped! Thanks for watching.
Excellent
I've watched many videos pertaining to this problem and yours is by far the best! Thank you!
Thanks!
For sure I've watched many videos as well and a lot of them are not detailed good video good information hadn't even heard of these slide-out skis I'm glad I saw this video cuz I just got our new used 2014 fusion and it leaks more leaks more than our 19 73 Winnebago fifth wheel
Hello from Okinawa, Japan. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent A+ how to video... 👍
Thank you for the great comment and for watching!
Excellent repair video
Thanks for watching
I've been trying to figure out how the floor was getting wet?!
Now I know!
Thank you!
Ya its a big issue. Thanks for watching.
Great job! Thank you. I was totally just going to slap some duct tape on the edge as a temporary fix but now I will check out getting the ski.
We tried the duct tape route first and it did not hold up. Thanks for watching and glad the video helped.
Very helpful thanks.
You're welcome, thanks for watching.
Thank you, really helpful
Glad it helped
It would be a nice deal if the manufacturers did this prior to the final inspection to avoid this kind of eventual damage. I'd look for the company that did this as a preventive measure rather than a after thought.
Thank you this was very helpful
Youre welcome
Dude this video was Great🏆 Subscribed 🏆🏆🏆
Thanks glad it helped!
Great video. Thank you!
You are welcome. Hope it helped and thanks for watching.
Great content. Thank you
Glad you liked it!
I’m going to be doing this one in the next couple weeks as part of a video series on how to prevent water damage along with my RV armor roof and a gadget a local RV shop has to put positive pressure in the camper to find any sealant failures. There’s always someone do!
Gotta keep the water out, its a constant battle.
Awesome info
Glad it helped
@@RVLivingYet I need all the help I can get.
Good Video. I am getting skis for all 5 slides on me Open Range.
Thanks for watching
WOW!!! I thought the flooring was suppose to be exposed like your floor ( and mine.) Guess I have more work to do. Thanks sooooo much
Welcome, this is a major over looked source of rot in many slides.
Great video!
We are glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! I just ordered the same.
Update: Installed, looks great, not too hard of a job. I did place mine under the siding.
Glad it helped!
Great idea
Thanks for watching
I will be buying this we are having the same problem
thank you
Youre welcome
Just discovered yesterday a soft spot in the outside corner of our slide out. I’ve got to repair that and then I look forward to this method for future preventative moisture issues.
Glad you caught it, we are super vigilant about water leaks since we have had issues in the past. This is a good solution to prevent future damage. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have the same problem as well. Just a couple small soft spots. Most of the dealers want to replace the whole floor but that seems a little excessive seeing how it’s a few quarter size spots. How did you repair them. Also did you just put the skis over the soft spots once they were dried out?
Good video. Good work
Thanks for watching
Thank you so much.
Youre welcome, thanks for watching
Excellent job. I purchased a 2011 KZ Durango with 3 slides in 2019. I will have to check my slides in April to see if I have a similar problem.
Thanks for watching, this is a common problem so keep an eye on it. Safe travels.
Great video
Thanks for watching
that's gonna be unique with every RV
Lots of people have been having this issues.
It’s funny how many times you say it…You can sense your nervousness with the camera or tension with the person recording you. Just what I felt watching you.
The sticky tape that came with the ski’s is that butyl tape? Wouldn’t it also be a good idea to add the pro RV silicone to the underneath edge just in case of serious downpour causing water to be pushed back up underneath?
Thanks for the tips, liked and sub.
Glad it helped, thanks for watching.
Nice. Thank you 👏
Youre welcome
Thanks for a GREAT VIDEO. WELL DONE!!!
Hi, It worked thanks. Is there any skies for the center of the slide. I'd like to put 2 or 3 flat skies in the middle for more insurance. . thanks.
👍thanks
Our skis buckled and broke when sliding in and tore the boot. Going to fix these right away and patch the boot for later replacement but now I know to keep an eye on the ski. Thank you! Looks like I can do this myself.
Youre welcome
I changed them both, using the parts you recommended, followed your instructions and it's perfect. Thank you! They look great, work and now water free.
@@wileydash Awesome! Glad we could help.
Since our new plastic ski split (reason I put on a new one, old one split), I ended up using 1 1/2 inch angle aluminum, 1/8 inch thick, made a template of the angled floor inside, cut the aluminum… used aluminum brazing (solder) to finish the angle for the floor. No more breaking 😊
I might be inclined to run a bead of caulk between the ski and slideout wall. So in the event water breached the trim it wouldn't be able to get behind the ski.
iTS RAINING LIKE THAT HERE AND MY SON IN LAW PUT PLASTIC COVERS ON THOSE ENDS AND COATED THE FLOOR SLIDEOUTS WE DID THOSE SLIDE SKIES BUT IN NZ TYPE AND IT DOES COVER IT BUT REALLY THANKS IT DOES HELP AND WHERE DO I GET THESE SLIDES FROM
We didn't catch ours in time but we will be adding the ski to our new floor. Our fall project so we can be up and running for spring!
Good luck with the project!
We need a new floor as well. Can I ask how much it cost to fix?
Nice. Thank you. Great tips and ideas most welcome.
Thanks for watching
Do you have a video on the top of pull out if it leaks?
Thank you for the video, excellent help! Any advice on what do if water went unnoticed and now there is water damage inside the trailer, carpet, paneling, and flooring? Thanks again.
Glad it helped
Hi behind the trim on my slider is wet would this help me??
Thank you. you may have just solved my rv leak problem. Im gets wet floor in the slide out just one side but I can not figure out were the water is coming from. I've checked everything and everything is dry.
You're welcome, glad we could help!
I just started having problems with wear on the bottom of our 5th wheel slides. I have been "googling" for a while for a solution, and this is simply outstanding. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Quick question, in addition to the butyl tape you used on the slide out ski, do you think it is necessary to also add screws? I would rather not, but I am concerned about it possibly slipping. Great video!
Glad it helped, the screws on the trim on the sides went through the slide plastic and holds it in place.
Instead of the “very expensive plastic” I’m thinking aluminum fascia would work, it’s pretty cheap and comes with the 90° bend. Liked and subbed!
I thought about using metal but was afraid it would bend under the pressure and a sharp corner would catch our vinyl floor.
Our Bedroom slide has water getting in. it high up on my fifth wheel. how would we do this?
What do you do about the fact the water was getting inside already. Don't you have to dry the wood if it's wet underneath?
This was a major help. Wondering where do you get the slide side rubber seals from
Like these? amzn.to/3EkQXm5
Mine was wicking through between the wall and floor, I could actually put a coat hanger through to the inside from outside easy.
Wow thats not good...
Our rear slide out is leaking and its only on one side. But what I have been reading from others on this, looks like we have the same problem. Thanks for the video and the links. Any other ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks for watching, check all of your seals and seams as well, but this is often the overlooked source to leaks.
Great video thank you
Glad it was helpful!
What was the plastic product called again
Update on the sleds? How have they held up?
Hi we just found your channel great idea about the slides. We have the same Silverback yours, ours has a Manufacture date is May 2013, but it is titled as a 2014 model year(not sure how that works). We bought ours in February 2020 used from a dealer.
I did find a small soft spot under our bedroom slide and think the water is getting to this area as you showed during the rain. I wonder though our bedroom slide doesn't have the black barrier on the bottom and wondering if yours does. I will follow what you did to stop the water intrusion which is a great idea. Glad to find fellow Cedar Creek Silverback'ers...
Thanks for stopping by and checking out our channel! Thats too funny, our Silverback is a 2013 and we too purchased it earlier this year as well. As for the bedroom slide we have not had any water issues and it is different than the other slides since it has a plywood bottom. We ended up sealing the edges really well with Proflex and I painted the plywood with an oil based exterior paint to seal it. Hope than helps!
My slide wore thru the black plastic on the bottom of my slide. I adjusted it to stop the rubbing but too late. This is my solution to fix the damage. Thanks!
Ours was starting to do the same thing, most people dont catch it until its too late. These work great.
Would love to know where to purchase those gray ground tiles !
Thanks Again Happy Trails
Thank you for watching, I'm not really sure where those blocks came from, they where on the property but I would guess Home Depot would have something like that.
We have watched this Living in NEW ZEALAND IN A 40CCR COTTAGE AND MY FAR PUSHOUT WHEN I WALK ON IT MAKES A NOISE LIKE CREEKING BUT NOT ALL THE TIME?? WHAT WOULD YOU PLEASE SUGGEST AN ELDERLY LADY TO DO. MY SON IN LAW FIXED ONE PUSHOUT ROTTEN AND THE FLOOR HAS NEVER BEEN BETTER NOT ROTTEN HARD AS JUST DO NOT KNOW PLEASE HELP
Exactly the video I was looking for. My question is. My slide's out 3 feet and is 12 wide and works with cables. Will I have to do any adjustments to the cables or chains or are they thin enough that won't make a difference? And that outside trim, Is that just trim or is that a guide also to keep the slide right ?
No adjustment needed, yes that strip is just a trim piece.
@@RVLivingYet Thanks that cloth is starting to fray and I was looking for something like this for a while. You popped up on you-tube now I'm going to do this. Thanks, I'll let you know
Mine is a 2009 Salem and it’s doing this but unfortunately too late cuz my floor is rotted and too soft
Hello from france, thats a good trick.
I'm looking forward to a internet site , helping me to built my own rv little house on defender land rover 130, with one maybe 2 slide outs.
Thanks
Sounds great!
Question! prior to putting the ski, do you have to dry to bottom floor (wood) first? We live in the Pacific Northwest (Cold and Wet!).
Thanks, Great Video.
If the wood is soaked its probably best to dry it so you dont get mold.
Great video but shouldnt you have tucked it under the slide skin
Got a new 3781RL and was wandering if this would be a good PM to do. I would like to know how it affects the floor as it slides in, I don’t have carpet.
We have half carpet half vinyl and it slides nice and smooth on both. It was a must for us to prevent rot.
I’m dealing with this right now... bought a moisture meter, reading 100% from the inside corner of my slide out floor. Thankfully no sagging and it seems localized. I’ll have to get these skis really soon. I’m glad I ripped out all my carpet when I did so that I by chance found the leak problem.
So lame these rv manufacturers treat their product like this. Shame! $$$
Glad you caught it, lots of people dont. Ya these are made as cheap as possible. Thanks for watching.
Yeah made cheap as possible but sell for tens of thousands lol
But of course we wouldn't be buying all this other after market products they put out . If they built to with stand the elements
Yes! For what you pay for an rv, you could buy a double wide that is bigger to live in. Not that double wide manufacturers are any better making their products, but they are better than these rv’s. We live in ours
Great video. This was very helpful. I think you have the best video on RUclips about this. Question regarding the ProFlex RV. I have used it as well, but using my finger to smooth it out, or Tooling it, just never seems to work since it is so sticky. Do you have any helpful hints in using the product? Thanks.
Thanks for watching, for the Proflex dip your rag in mineral spirits or lacquer thinner and clean your finger after each wipe, also work it really fast before it gets tacky.
Thanks for the quick reply. I will try that. Also, just placed an order through your link, i think, for two sets. Much appreciated.
One other question: how long have you had the ski installed? Has it been working like you thought? I just received mine and going to work on installing this weekend. Just wondered if the heavier slide was sliding in and out without issue on the bottom? Thanks,
@@clysack07 sorry just saw this, so far these have been working great. It also stop the carpet from wearing inside. Very happy with the upgrade.
ProFlex recommends dipping your finger in soapy water before smoothing it out.
Would you recommend these on all slides? We have two on one side (bedroom and kitchen) and one living room on the awning side.
I would recommend it for all slides that have that canvas covering underneath which wears out, our bedroom slide was different so we just did the 2 lower slides.
Why wouldn’t you tuck the outside edge of the ski up under the fiberglass siding? Seems like that would make a better water barrier.
If it fits that would be a good option as well.
