    Part of the problem is when they use dry wall screws to hold it together. Dry wall screws are not for structure they tend to break if you use them that way. Glad you found a tech that does the best he can and does a great job for you. Hope you all stay safe and healthy.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Год назад +1

      Well technically they are not there for structure! Thats why they say never to step on your slides when they are in as the walls are holding the floor up! In the out position the floor is holding the walls up so it is not an issue! It my fault for stepping on it while it was in!

    Quick tips, if your floor drop again keep in mind addind wood in your aluminum tubing, the 3'' screws that you add will probably get loose again they are holding by 1/16 at the bottom of the tube and 1/16 at the top of the tube, it is not like you screw in a peace of 1'' 1/2 of wood in you aluminum framing slide. When you do that you take off the caping around your slide inside and you will see you aluminum tubing at the bottom of your slide.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Год назад +1

      Those are intended to be used on slides with rollers so the rollers don't damage the floor when moving in and out! On flush floor slides the slide doesn't touch the floor of the RV when it comes in, it is above the floor!

      Our kitchen and bedroom slide have rollers! But our main living room slide is flush floor, when it comes in it hits a ramp and goes up above the RV floor! This would help prevent it from further falling apart (allot how they address this issue in boats). Also, I thought this was the ski you replaced recently? Why did it fail so quick? Anyway, thanks for the great videos, I learn something new every day. Maybe see you on the road, we are launching in a month or so from South Central Texas.

      The problem was caused recently on our trip to big bend, but this ski had never been replaced! The last time we worked on the other ski was 18 months ago with the same tech! Once it cracks the in and out movement makes it worse very quickly!

That seal only comes into play when the slide is in and the wiper to me serves no real function if the bubble seal is doing it's job!

      The cracking will start to occur on the radius of the slide ski when it makes thr turn from the wall to the floor! It was about $500 but just depends on the scope of the job, parts needed and the time it takes to complete.

    Also, if the wood was soft in that area, the pressure on the underside would cause the ski to wear more. Ok. I'll shut up now. haha.

      Its more of the slide is being supported on the bottom by only a small ledge and it is hard on the slide ski during travel!

    Will people ever realize these boxes are for vacations not living in ?

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Год назад +2

      We have lived and traveled in ours for 3 years now! This problem was not caused by fulltime use, you could be on vacation and make the mistake of stepping on the slide and damaging it!

    Seems like 18 month too fix your slides each time is way too soon , but if it has too done so be it but I'll cross my fingers for you it's not that soon 🤞

      He says these wear out with increased usage! I would be willing to bed my slides have been in and out over 200 times in the last 18 months! We use our RV more in one year than most will the entire time they own it!

    Brakes and slide skies. you are replacing the vehicles one part at a time.

      Well if you use them, they will eventually need new parts!

      @@PavingNewPaths oh yeah, I understand. I am glad you asked him if this was a brand specific or just a normal thing. Really sets expectations that you better start looking at these over 18 months or so, depending on your usage. Just one more thing to add to your checklist.
