Historically Ashoka the emperor of Maurya converted to Buddhism and became something of a pacifist, declining to start expansionist wars. Maybe that's reflected in the game somehow.

Also needs to take Corinth within their first ruler's life otherwise they can start to collapse

I tend to disagree with the list. It really depends on the player's preferred playstyle. For example, starting as Egypt, Seleucid, Maurya, and even Phrygia or Carthage if you have slight OCD is not going to be a good recipe for fun. You're more likely to drop the game. For these people Rome/Macedon would rank on the top 2 positions, Rome has it particularly easier for early expansion. I found it difficult even to deal with Carthage's problems - it's not that it was a too difficult starting position, it was simply tedious. I much rather deal with a mess of my own making rather than to solve the gridlock puzzle of pops and scathered territories the devs devised for us. I would even consider cheats to ameliorate the situation, you either have the stomach for it or not. Maybe it's not a newb friendly start, but an OP start is also in the N-W corner of the map because you don't meat any superpowers for some time. You slowly begin your pre-viking tribal empire and trample every other nation on the map in mid to late game with ease, showing them better and more honest ways. You have to min-max a bit for a while, but despite starting with an apparently weaker nation, your position is so safe and allows you to expand on so much territoriy in relative safety that the other super powers won't be able to compete with you when you finally get closer to their borders.
I think you forgot to take into consideration that Rome, gets CBs by event. And if you don't start unnecessary wars, the game will feed you claims like a mama bird feeds her hatchlings.
Rather than converting the religion of pops, it's better to convert their culture, as this provides a greater boost to pop happiness. Though ideally you want to do both. Plus religeous power isn't hard to come by, and so you can manually convert pops once you have a surplus of it.
I’m curious, how powerful is Chola in the game? I know sometime within the timespan of the game they become a powerful southern Indian Empire but I’m interested in what those ideas are.

What about creating the "Holy What, Roman Who, Empire Where?" I need this to be an achievement, creating the later HRE by conquering and settling the territories as a Germanic migratory tribe start.
Langeng1 Historically maybe but from what I’ve seen in game they never seem to last until the end while Macedon and Egypt usually expand beyond their starting borders.
@@sneedwashere the game seem to be good at replicating what happened about 160-180 years after the games starting date, where the Selucids are hit with rome defending egypt (for theyr needed food imports), succession war, rebellions and phartia striking from the east all at once. to me they seem to be the hardest major power to start as, but if you are able to stabilize you have the 2. moast pops ingame and Seleucus is a pretty awesome opening ruler.
Maurya never expanded west due to one battle and a peace treaty. I wonder if that’s possible in this game. More so. I wonder what the world the would have looked like if the Greeks didn’t stop them.
The peace treaty is a possible outcome of a triggered event at campaign start. It is absolutely possible in game! You can either sign the treaty or declare war on the Seleucids
1:42 You can colonize neighboring regions as a non-migratory tribe too. The point with being migratory is that you can settle regions that's some distance away. 2:40 Actually, they're not Latin at all. Rome was formed by Latin tribes. But they weren't. Italy was quite ethnically diverse at this point in time.
@Sugarz not that much. France's expansion is challengend by Burgundy (which starts off as strong as France.) And Austria which may allies with your clay and will directly be a neighboring cockblock after the inheritance. Also, expanding in Europe is a headache as coalitions forms very quicky. As opposed to the middle east where the Ottomans can expand without caring for AE and with only rival being the Mamluks. France is strong but it is only one of the dominant European powers not the power of the region.
@@meandmetoo8436 It's moreso in the early game, and it has *many* ways to expand. Seriously, a semi competent player can conquer western Europe in less than 150 years as France. I know I did it a few times and I definitely am not that good at the game, you just have to time it right and have a little rng on your side (just keep switching between England, Italy, North Africa the lowlands and Iberia (unless like me you have Castille inherit the lowlands and you then get a PU on them. It just makes things easier but it can be done even without). The Protestant reformation is just your greatest ally by dividing your enemies thus allowing you to be more aggressive in Europe (I'd suggest to only go after the lowlands after the reformation has gained a strong foothold, and once it has started you can start pushing in Italy as well since it will no longer be part of the empire and the catholics will be more divided). So I'd say that it is quite the overpowered country yes if you know at least somewhat how to play them, and unlike the Ming, they aren't an idle giant that does jackshit. Sure it's start is a little more difficult but you can snowball very very fast
@@sephikong8323 you are right, but what you just described can also be done as England, Austria (just as easily) or Aragon/Castille and Burgundy (a bit harder for those two.) Heck I did it with Naples (with a lucky PU that is.) Which is what I mean by "france has competition" The only location that compare to Europe in term of competitivity is India with a lot of big states of comparable size and smaller ones. It also has multiple religions. India and Europe are the only regions without one or two regional superpower towering over everyone else. Maybe the Malian region share this to an extent. The middle-east is just dominated by the Ottomans. But at least they have the mamluks acting as a challenge, in East Asia, Ming is just god and you do whatever you want. Even better if you get rid of the mandate
I mean its just an oppinion. The power of Rome comes from it military and scientific advancement. I bet Romes mid to late game is OP. Its just how it is. The faction the game was made about is weak in the beggining to give players an interesting challenge, because of course everyone wants to play as Rome in a game about Rome. So it makes sense mid and late game will be OP compared to anyone else, so you actually can feel like Rome when you play. Like in any strategy game ever made :) The most epic country IRL is always challenging to start with, but becomes a GOD when you start getting into the mid game.
Phrygia and Seleucid empire both have events to literally fall apart coupled with huge amounts of wrong religion/culture pops + old rulers, awkward expansion, and seleucids even go to war with the #1 power in the game at the start. Why are they 2nd and 3rd strongest over something like rome or carthage? Sure they start with more pops and armies but they have WAYYYY less potential to grow quickly and more importantly safely.
Why can Armenia for Persia, that makes no sense. Is Paradox alluding to the Armenians being Persians, that is not historically accurate. It would have been more accurate if it was Pontus, since they were Persians. But having Armenia form Persia, is like having Persia form the Seleucid Empire.
Iberia isn't weak. With Colchis it isn't that weak. If you are playing for the first time, yes it is hard. But for a second or a third game Iberia is very strong. It can take over Armenia but if you move up north you fucking steam roll and become a goddamn beast. So stop calling it a weak country.

The peace treaty is a possible outcome of a triggered event at campaign start. It is absolutely possible in game! You can either sign the treaty or declare war on the Seleucids
I really wish they would do a game like this or ck2 set in east Asia!
"Rebel Wack-a-Mole". A phrase I will use now
“Abort Rome in its infancy”
Weird phrasing bro...
Michael Flores Yeah I laughed like what the fuck hahaha I’m not mad though

You can colonize neighboring regions as a non-migratory tribe too.
The point with being migratory is that you can settle regions that's some distance away.

Actually, they're not Latin at all.
Rome was formed by Latin tribes.
But they weren't.
Italy was quite ethnically diverse at this point in time.
Can't wait to play Pyrus and go est instead of west.
Can't wait to salt the Earth where Rome once stood
Does the game have some depth? I'd love to play IR, but after MEIOU&Taxes every Paradox vanilla feels like a mobile game...
The game is rather basic at the moment but there will be content updates and a major patch dropping soon. It's still quite enjoyable, though!
@@AlzaboHD Thanks a lot! I'd rather wait a few years till all DLCs and some MEIOU-esque mods are on the ground 😂 Gigau&Co. spoiled me! 😕
So you're telling me, Rome isn't the strongest country in a game about Rome?
I mean, in EU4 the game is about Europe and the strongest countries are Ming China and the Ottoman empire.
@Sugarz not that much.
@@sephikong8323 you are right, but what you just described can also be done as England, Austria (just as easily) or Aragon/Castille and Burgundy (a bit harder for those two.) Heck I did it with Naples (with a lucky PU that is.)
Which is what I mean by "france has competition"
The only location that compare to Europe in term of competitivity is India with a lot of big states of comparable size and smaller ones.
Like in any strategy game ever made :) The most epic country IRL is always challenging to start with, but becomes a GOD when you start getting into the mid game.
the game isn't even released yet and you upload this game
Yes, I was given a pre release key from Paradox
Phrygia and Seleucid empire both have events to literally fall apart coupled with huge amounts of wrong religion/culture pops + old rulers, awkward expansion, and seleucids even go to war with the #1 power in the game at the start. Why are they 2nd and 3rd strongest over something like rome or carthage? Sure they start with more pops and armies but they have WAYYYY less potential to grow quickly and more importantly safely.
I actually ran a test timelapse and they both survived the entire campaign. I think they might be more stable than originally thought but ymmv
"Get the hell out of here" - Chandragupta Maurya
How is sparta?
AI is shot. Rome can't escape the peninsula, getting past a tribe, even with 10 times the manpower.
hey... this are not military ides for eu4..... :c
Hmm, an Etruscan Empire does sound pretty nice
This looks to me like the Game Rome II should have been
"You are the son that I should have had"
Armenia really needs some culture dlc. there is nothing non-persian except for the kingdom and city names
How about getia is a good country? because historical they was very good at army and economy
Can’t wait for the Jesus DLC
Im already hyped as fk for that game :D
drinking game: take a shot every time he says "preeminent"
Uh oh, ill bring the stomache pump
Why can Armenia for Persia, that makes no sense. Is Paradox alluding to the Armenians being Persians, that is not historically accurate. It would have been more accurate if it was Pontus, since they were Persians. But having Armenia form Persia, is like having Persia form the Seleucid Empire.
I think it's as accurate as the Ottomans forming the HRE in EU4, no?
@@alexander1055 Yeah these paradox games make no sense. Also Armenians are black people in the game, like wtf...
Jeez, english pronounciation just butchers greek language :/
I definitely agree. I never learned Greek and it certainly shows. Thanks for watching.
Eventually the Maurya will be nerfed due to being very OP
Iberia isn't weak. With Colchis it isn't that weak. If you are playing for the first time, yes it is hard. But for a second or a third game Iberia is very strong. It can take over Armenia but if you move up north you fucking steam roll and become a goddamn beast. So stop calling it a weak country.
