    Explanation and demo on how to prepare substrate mix for terrariums
    Components for substrate (soil) mix:
    (with amazon buying links)
    1)Coco peat (2 parts) - helps to retain moisture and keeps the soil loose and airy too. Usually comes in blocks which can be soaked in water to disintegrate into a soil like texture.
    amzn.to/3ltoCz6
    2)Dried moss (1 part) - has great water and nutrients retention properties
    amzn.to/37iCPJW
    3)Pine bark (1 part) - helps with drainage and aeration
    amzn.eu/d/g5xhtRb
    4)Sand or ground gravel (1 part) - good drainage and aeration properties. Also improves soil texture.

    Hello..your videos are so aesthetically appealing. It got me interested into making a terrarium for myself.
    I have watched a few of your videos.
    I had a query. Is it mandatory to use moss?
    I have cocopeat ,and can manage sand too,but is there any substitute for moss?
    Also the plants you have named are difficult to source in Kolkata. More so,given the current situation. Is there any easily available plant that can be set up in a terrarium?. I am into gardening so I do have basic garden plants.

    One quick question related to the nutrients that this mix has: I've heard that coco peat does not have many, so do you think it's necessary to add some other soils with nutrients? Thanks

    • @TheUrbanNemophilist
      @TheUrbanNemophilist  3 года назад +2

      Thank you. For terrariums the substrate is mostly kept inert since we do not want the plants to grow fast. Overtime dead leaves and organic matter will provide some nutrients to the plants.
      Having said that you can always add nutrient rich garden soil to the mix for large sized builts.
