I noticed that, when Jess says horrible things, like she threatened someone's life, it doesn't make me think less of her. It makes me think more of other people who did horrible things, because look how great of a person she is despite doing those things. You're not automatically evil because you did something terrible.

    • @katiem6620

This is so true. For years when I was young I struggled with it so badly (still do now but thankfully have the right support) and my father would always tell me it was an excuse to be lazy among other harsh and nasty things. Years later he found himself struggling too and was diagnosed with depression and anxiety.
He came to me after and apologized for it, for everything. It meant the world to me that he finally understood but it made my heart break knowing that he had to experience the same pain I did/do to finally get it and understand. That's the last thing I ever wanted for him.
I truly believe you just can't get it fully unless you've gone through it yourself, and if you do, you'll have a whole new perspective on the world and the people around you.

    • @simona_sigmund1001
      @simona_sigmund1001 4 года назад +14

Yep, that's very true. I struggle with depression and PTSD and it's so painful that my parents don't understand. I had to move back to their house cause of financial issues linked to Covid, but they don't know how to deal with me. My parents are ignorant and think I'm "pathetic" and "lazy" and I just have to "get a grip". As if this was a choice. As if I have a magic wand that can make my pain and trauma disappear. I'm currently in therapy, and looking to move away from my toxic family. Slowly but surely I'm going to get better - I have to hold on to that hope x

@@katiem6620 WOW, I literally got the same exact reaction from my mother when I was a teenager.. it made it even more difficult to deal with because I had no support and felt frustrated and embarrassed which prevented me from ever reaching out for help ever again.
Now I am in my 40s and sadly when my dad passed away, my mom fell into a deep depression and she now gets panic attacks at night time.
I never got an apology for all of the years she judged me and I try my best to support her based on the experience that I have had with it but she's not one to open up much about things.
Even though I feel a little bitter towards how she treated me when I needed her the most, I'm not glad that she knows the feeling now.. I really would not wish depression and/or chronic anxiety on my worst enemy.
It's so sad that most people cannot understand what they have not personally experienced.. it sucks how most people cannot have empathy for others unless they can relate to the issues themselves.
I learned that a young age that most of us truly have no one in this world except for ourselves. 🤷

Hey everyone, my name is Joshua and I'm an addict. I'm not one to cry. I think the last time I did was when my dad was in the hospital over two years ago. This video from Jessica made me cry, and not just like a little bit! I watched it in front of my son who is 10 years old and knows why I watch these types of videos. He came up to me and gave me the biggest hug he could! It's so strange to me how powerful some things can be on the brain such as drugs and how they make us act. I'm keeping this short though.

I was depressed as a kid, still am - when I look at you and your life story I see a path that I could easely have taken. But I never had that friend, my only exposure to substance was my grandma nagging on my grandpa for drinking and on my mother for chain smoking. I was taught to appear as a poster child - so I never got into any crime, drugs, or addiction - just deeper into depression.
My compassion goes out to you and everyone struggeling. We all have our ways to cope even if they are not good for us. I chose self isolation and I numbed every emotion through pure power of will alone. If I had been offered a substance to do it for me I might have took it. If I had an oppurtunity to turn popular, to party, I would have took it.
A person using a substance isn't better than another. Sometimes the only thing different is a missed opportunity.

I really want to start a few actually for every touchy subject that doesn't get enough support like domestic violence, and teen addiction and children who have lost a parent to drugs and alcohol. My girls just lost their dad this Saturday and I really wish I had a place for them to go and be around other kids their ages so they learn they are not alone. Though I am trying so hard to be strong for them but it's so fresh and it's so so hard. I've made the decision this morning to finally at least try to post some videos even though I only have my phone to record on and won't be able to even attempt to edit and if I somehow do make revenue from the videos or gain followers, God Willing, every penny will go into these projects I feel I am here to do. It has to be the reason I've lived through everything I have because my God would not put me through all these obstacles and trauma without a greater reason

God willing tomorrow will be my 2 year anniversary free of all mood and mind altering substances. It can be done. Just one day at a time. In the beginning I had to even take it one hour or even one minute at a time. It is very very critical to change all using and toxic people, places and things. And I mean all of them, in my case that was most of my family. Spirituality is a really big part too. To connect with something, some power greater than ourselves! And to be completely open, honestly and willing to do anything for sobriety like we did at time to get our drugs of choice. I'll add you to my prayer list! You can message me anytime, this is my real name and my Facebook is the same! We just lost my daughters dad Saturday to "just one more time" so please please just stop right now. Not tomorrow or the next day. But today 🙏. And I'm here to love you till you can love yourself because that's what someone else did for me

Thank you so much for sharing your story. 6 years ago my alcoholic mother who struggled with her mental health and was called a lost cause and everything just like you....did pull the trigger. My gun, my bedroom, my first day of college. People need to kind and see addicts as the people they are. They need to say how can I make your day better? How can I be a help to you and lift your burdens just a little, even if it's just by a smile or a kind word.

This video is emotional but that line "you wouldn't know my name" is so so so powerful. This is strength in a video format.
And I feel grateful and lucky to know your name!
    ❤️
My addiction and my struggles are nothing comparable to yours but you also seem like someone who would be the first person to say "pain isn't comparable, your pain is valid".
I'm trying to tell myself that because I'm sick of "others have it worse" attitude from medical staff.
When I came suicidal they turned me away. They didn't "see that I was depressed". I didn't have any intention on showing or proving them wrong. So my sleeves stayed down and my self harm hidden.
I'm not from USA but I can connect in a way that shouldn't be possible. It shouldn't be like this. We shouldn't have same shame over mental health issues around the globe.
    But we do.
So I'm sending good vibes to everyone - from Croatia ❤️

I was honestly going to tell you that there is no need to compare or downplay what you have been through. We all go through things but only we know how real the pain we have been through is. I was taught this, so one person could have almost died from being beat and that can be the worst pain they have ever been in. But that doesn't mean if you were just punch one time that that isn't the most painful thing you have been through. They are still equal because pain is pain. It doesn't even have to be physical to compare to what someone else has felt. I can't seem to find the words for what I'm trying to explain but I hope it's somewhat makes sense

@@crystalmariedemecs9257 thank you for taking time to reply. It means a lot to see that other people validate different kinds of pain.
I'm trying to do that to myself but.... I always feel "what if you aren't in the right and you're just a whiney weak person".
I needed this today. Thank you!
I always remember people who gave me words of comfort so thank you. I will try to remember your words when I'm beating myself down.

one of the most articulate, detailed, wonderful story I've ever heard. It's true, what they say, you never truly know how strong you are until you are FORCED to test that strength. Though I do not know you, I can honestly say I am proud of you for rising above everyone that wanted to "throw you away." I worked in psych, in a hospital, for long-term care of adolescent females ages 13-17. I would've given anything to have this video to have shared with those, then, that were struggling with chemical dependency. You are brave, you are strong; you are an example. Your message is brilliant. SUBSCRIBED. ;)

Jess, I just commented on one of your most recent posts a few hours ago, "your quiet subscriber." You had me in tears earlier and again now. I left RUclips and came back and stumbled onto this video. I needed to hear all of this. Coming out of prison as a recovering addict is so scary. You give me so much hope. You're such a beautiful person with amazing an amazing way with words. Thank you so much for what you do. I know you're going through a lot right now currently, but I'm so proud of you and where you are now. I wanna find the drive and purpose to help others the way you have, it's been a passion sense I was a child. But through my struggles of life and in today's world, I've lost that hope and don't know how to direct that energy. But you give me hope and light a fire in me. Thank you.
    Sending so much love

I'm currently struggling with an alcohol use problem and occasionally other substances, since lockdown started. I'm stuck in a judgmental ab*s*ve home, i have no money to live anywhere else, and am about to be kicked out. All my friends have left me due to my usage problem. My issues change- i managed to cut back on alc for about a week which was amazing. but then something bad happened and i was right back into it. the shame, embarrassment and depression I'm feeling, i can't even find words. I'm the most lost I've ever been in my life. thank you for sharing your story, Jess. it sounds weird but the idea of having and raising a kid is the most beautiful future to me, and keeps me going. its amazing how your baby led you to a completely different life, and you did it for her. sending a lot of love to your family. got to remind myself to just hang on. even when everything else seems so dark.

My mom also suffered from depression. She was in and out of psych wards my entire life. I’ve picked her up off the ground from her abuse of pills more times than I can count. But I was so lucky. I had my dad. An actual angel on earth, who despite everything stuck with my mom and raised us 3 kids while working 3 jobs to support us. Right now my mom is in the ICU. Her addiction has caught up with her and it’s really friken sad seeing my dad go through this. My childhood could have been so much darker if it weren’t for him. “As a mother it is my hope to create a life that my children don’t have to heal from.” Wow. Just, wow. I wish my biological “mother” felt the same. She was the start of my depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I’ve never personally experienced or know someone with an addiction, well, let me take that back. Just because I don’t know doesn’t mean it’s not there. I’ve been watching you for about a year now Jessica and while I’ve heard you tell your story here and there, this was just, incredible. You carry so much strength, growth, wisdom, faith, and love in your heart. Your daughters and Reece are so so very lucky that you’re still here. We’re all so grateful that you’re still here and that you found your way to sobriety and on a path to recovery and healing. I’ve come from a very traumatic childhood and honestly the beginning of my adulthood, so I’m my own way I related with you and your story. I’m very very excited to get my hands on your autobiography. Words cannot express the respect and love that I have for you, or at least how much it’s grown. It’s people like you that I look up to you and think about in my dark moments when I don’t feel that I can or want to continue. I’m so so so proud of you and how far you’ve come and the hard work you’ve put in to be who and where you are now. I have so much love for you. The moment I pressed play I was glued. Thank you for sharing your story with all of us. It is so brave and appreciated and I know that it will reach the people out there that need it the most. You are so so beautiful and impactful and your purpose in this world is only going to grow bigger. Jessica sometimes you leave me speechless ....thank you so much for sharing your stories, they are so POWERFUL! You have inspired me to let go of the shame and guilt and start sharing my stories on my own channel.. if I can make a quarter of the impact you are making , then I would feel like my mistakes weren’t in vain...I love you! Thanks
