- The First Step to Greatness / Memorize Everything and Why
The Romantic School of Music was founded 300 years ago, on August 15, 1715 by Giuseppe Tartini. and even though the heart of The Romantic School of Music is centered around the next lesson; "Every Note Must Have a Life of It's Own, and How to Bring The Music to Life," it is necessary to first fine tune and polish your technique in order to freely express yourself. This is that lesson.

Once again a very helpful and enjoyable video. I wil try to play more without looking at the fingerboard and just feel the music.
I lost a lot if hearing but the tips you give and the points to look out for are enormously helpful nevertheless. As I cannot hear properly I have to watch a tuner when practicing then learn exactly where fingering is through practice. It's still wonderful to feel the vibration on the strings as they sing.

Given a choice between memorizing and reading I think reading is more useful. But I think I understand why memorizing is important. I haven't really memorized anything since 4th or 5th grade and I find it kind of difficult. I also find it difficult to learn to read music but I'm spending my time doing that

I wish guitar players, the people who play at coffee shops, would watch 6:16 of this video. The screech sound made on bar chorded songs has soured many a cup of joe.
I used to be guilty of this as well, until one time I listened to a recording of my playing. It's important to be your own strict but constructive critic.

Nice video, I admire your passion. I have been playing for about 4 years, and I can't understand why there are no markings on the fingerboard. Finding the correct note by sound can only be done after the fact. It's either "that sounds right" or "oops that's wrong" and now it's too late to fix it. Vibrato seems to me to be a way of fixing those missed notes. Fingering with some visual points of reference seems so much easier. Why make things difficult?

I used to memorize my suzuki pieces when I started but now playing a pop song requires me to keep my eye on the paper or else i'll get lost or make a mistake. I just got lazy in memorizing songs.

Of course! Though almost all music schools mention The Romantic School of Music in their textbooks, few know much about it, since it has traditionally been cloaked in mystery and intrigue. (Just the way we like it). The Romantic School of Music is the oldest and the greatest school of music to ever exist. (Of course, I'm partial. Can you blame me?) It was founded August 1, 1715 by Giuseppe Tartini:the-romantic-school-of-music.com/Faculty/Giuseppe_Tartini/Giuseppe_Tartini.htmland has inspired many of the world's virtuosi. In the words of Leopold Auer, what sets the school apart is that after technical perfection has been acquired, then comes the real music. When things settle down a little, I hope to add a history of the school to the website.

You have once again managed to create a wonderfully amusing video with unfortunate short comings. There are only three things I wholeheartedly disagree with though.
I'm not sure where your theory of intonation comes from, but you have to sing. Recording yourself doesn't hurt, but it's not how to resolve poor intonation. If you don't sing the notes, you'll never play them in tune.
You never place fingers directly on top of the string unless you're playing fifths. You must always play on the left side of the string to ensure clean left hand articulation and good intonation.
Calluses do not give you a sweet sound! Using the pad of your finger aids in a sweet tone. Interestingly enough, you've neglected right hand technique, which is far more nuanced and important in playing.
I'm not sure where you were going with the piano tuner bit. That's a whole art form on its own, and I would never presume to feign competence without years of practice.

As with the last video, you are correct, but little ahead of your time. The next lesson (already in the works) embraces singing, not only for intonation, but to develop confidence and expression.
I was hoping that my example of fingers being centered was extreme enough to simply get the point across. Fine tuning the exact placement of fingers for each student will be in another lesson. These first few lessons do generalize a bit because it's easy for them to evolve into 2 hour videos, which almost no one would watch.

Yes, I am dramatic. So was my Master. The Romantic School of Music has always been "dramatic." Yet you haven't seen anything yet. After seeing the more advanced lessons (soon to come) you will also believe that I am crazy. Yet those who wish to inspire others and change the world with their music will tell you at the same time that it's just what they needed.
Y'know... You're so crazy, you just might be on to something
